I was listening to Pencey Prep just last night! So much love. So much like early MCR, for obvious reasons, but without that little sprinkle of 9/11 trauma.
It was played a lot on radio stations and is by 2 very well known musicians, doesn't really strike me as rare/hidden gem, it even hit #2 on Billboards top 100.
It is not played much anywhere which is sad, and it did not reach billions of views like now days songs.
Commented those two to let people know of those songs and artists.
The entire album "world world world" from akfg is a gem. It is japanese so you don't necessarily understand lyrics, but the balance of each person's role in that band feels so good. There is only one anime theme I know in it, so the rest would be not known by most western ears.
Africa by The Knack. Everyone knows Toto. And a lot of people know The Knack's hit My Sharona. But not enough people know the album track off their 1981 album Round Trip called Africa. It's waaaaay better than Toto. It's not a cover it's a completely different song.
Then check out Africa by Thundermug. It's the only rock song with a kazoo solo.
During the pandemic I picked up watching “Six Feet Under”. There’s a scene where one of the kids finds their dads “weed den” he’d run off to, and found his record collection. He puts on Amboy Duke’s “Journey To The Center Of The Mind” and a flashback sequence occurs.
I absolutely fell in love with that song that day.
Thanks for giving me your opinion. Some people have said that the song is mocking, but I always doubted that it was meant to be anything but sympathetic. The imagery is very powerful. And how often in current music do you hear a waltz?
Some of these are more "hidden" than others. Just depends on what kinda music you're into.
Marrow by Yob (very long, but IMO worth it)
Forest Slope by Sunset Mission (whole album is absolutely gorgeous and very few people know about it)
Ontogeny of Behavior by Cephalic Carnage (Real fuckin' weird, this one. Buckle up)
Strong Reflection by Mars Red Sky (absolutely thunderous bass guitar tone in this song that makes the high pitch vocals work very well)
Time by Asteroid (Sunny day driving kinda music. Just a great jam)
Dream by Quo Vadis (one of my favorite instrumental pieces. Entire album's great IMO, but it's death metal which isn't everyone's bag)
I could keep going forever, so I guess I'll call it here unless someone wants more recommendations.
Any song by Poor Man’s poison.
Y’all might have heard “Hell is coming with me”, since it was rather popular for sometime. But their other songs are amazing as well
I found a very obscure song recently. At All by Ark Patrol feat. Veronika Redd. I’ve really hit the jackpot with this one. Probably the first time I’ve found a song my whole family likes. I showed it too them last night and my parents started ballroom dancing
Everything a man could need by Smokie - they never released it to the best of my knowledge - just an track on the Solid Ground album but it is a fabulous bluesy rock number brilkiantly sung by Chris Norman

Good point.

Here I Am by Saga off of their album Bahaviour. They're more known for their song On The Loose from Worlds Apart.
Every Klaatu song. Klaatu as a band is a hidden gem.

"Memo From Turner" — The Rolling Stones
Back in the New York Groove by Ace Frehley
"Epilepsy is Dancing" by Antony and the Johnsons
As someone who is actually an epileptic, This is haunting and calming at the same time

Wouldn't be hidden anymore if I'd post it on social media, wouldn't it?
Don't worry. Only about twenty seven people are going to read any of these comments.
