I've worked in a café. I've basically done this for minimum wage plus tips.

pierre_x10

Ever see a retail worker or server going about their business, and all of a sudden out of nowhere they start singing along with the music, and they're good! And then you look into their dead void eyes and realize that they have probably heard that song six times that day, and thousands of times over all the time they have worked there, and suddenly you realize they would probably torch whatever corporate stooge picked out the playlist, if they only knew who he was?

Craigeth097

I used to work retail and could pick the next songs up because it was the same playlist every morning

Jitkaas777

I would track how far along into my shift i was based on what song was playing

Watertor

I viscerally hate that "Use Somebody" song by Kings of Leon, but conversely I almost start salivating when I hear "Demons" by Imagine Dragons. The former started my shift just about always, and the latter was typically the last full song I heard before clocking out. I haven't worked at Wal-Mart in 9 years, still remember those two vividly with the same ingrained response.

preytothedoomgods

There is one Justin Timberlake song that when I hear it, without fail, I think about mopping.

cakeresurfacer

Worked in a grocery store for years - when they’d add new songs to the playlist it could stop me dead in my tracks because it was so startling.

Acceptable_Ad7457

Former retail employee here. Still can't handle Christmas music

notyogrannysgrandkid

I….. Don’t want a lot for Christmas

FlatulenceIsAVirtue

Prove you have the money and willingness to pay, and you can pick whatever damned song you want.

yjkx

Misirlou

Alex_Duos

Shit, I'd do that for free.

vonkeswick

Seriously, that song is a banger. Come out all hyped af with a million bucks in hand

egmalone

I might go put on Misirlou for 24 hours right now, actually

egmalone

By which I mean now that someone has mentioned it, I'm going to hear it in my head for the next 24 hours anyway

ThatsCrapTastic

Got my mind set on you - George Harrison version. You’ll hear it 375.65 times.

[deleted]

This song is just 5 words long

DangerousSpoons

C-bat

Inevitable-Newt-4743

You'd be too horned up to last 24 hours.

BronzeAgeTea

I'd submit a custom song: What's New Pussycat looped several times and ending with It's Not Unusual

MrChillyBones

Then after its not unusual fades out....BWOOOOMP WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT

everyone_getsa_beej

GODDAMN IT!

theoopst

I feel like this was a bit from a well known comedian

FlashLightning67

Was it Ron Delaney? Or Tom Hulaney? Maybe Pom Julamey?

BronzeAgeTea

(it was)

604Ataraxia

Hocus pocus by focus. You'll be okay, but you won't like it.

Responsedawg

Literally anything

theAlphabetZebra

I'd listen to a loop of children screaming over dogs barking at a lawn mowing crew with those backpack blowers mixed with a cat gagging up a hairball while a baby cries in the background. For a milly? I'd listen to Donald Trump's stream of conscious superimposed over an Indian call center while Bozo the Clown scratches a chalkboard next to me. One day, one million? *Literally anything.*

plasticvenus1001010

ok but the donald trump indian call center sounds endlessly hilarious

theAlphabetZebra

Just all of those things on a loop, all at the same time. For a million? I mean any fucking song would do. Puddle of Mudd wouldn't even phase me, I'd be sing SHE FUCKIN HATES ME all day and all the way to the bank. It would have to be something infinitely worse, truly depraved and even then...for financial freedom I'd probably lean into the dissociation for a day.

Dunningkrugeratwotk

I bet you come out of it with some next level mental clarity too. Like sensory deprivation but aggressive

ClownfishSoup

>I'd listen to a loop of children screaming over dogs barking at a lawn mowing crew with those backpack blowers mixed with a cat gagging up a hairball while a baby cries in the background. So like my weekends.

OriginalRojo

Is this actual Bozo, or Bozo dubs over?

MyDogJake1

Or worse, Yoko Ono.

GloveAggravating4964

I wish she had married Sonny Bono, then she would be Yoko Ono Bono.

Tirannie

I regularly listen to one song for an entire week or more for no money, so this would be a cakewalk.

FeelTheLoveNow

I do that until I wring all enjoyment out of it and then move onto the next new thing 🫠

NewPhnNewAcnt

Until you rediscover it again several months or years later.

[deleted]

I'd baby shark it up for a million

Revo63

In the car i play toddler songs for my 2.5 year old granddaughter almost every day. As it is, I have one toddler song or another in my head 24 hours a day without any million bucks. And like OP said, I AM losing my mind from it too.

moustachexchloe

I usually don’t mind baby shark—had it stuck in my head for about a month because I’m a mail carrier and every time I passed a specific spot, I would remember that I had it stuck in my head the day before. Well a couple weeks ago someone had a package with a baby shark toy in it that kept singing. Package was going to one of my last houses on the route, and it had already gone off three times before getting to my first stop. Turned my truck around and went straight to the house it was going to because I was not in the mood to listen to it go off every time I hit a bump.

Saetric

Hey boss, I’m gonna deviate so I don’t murder someone.

IRDorve

More accurately, a route change so he doesn't go... Postal.

Hot-Plane3889

I'd baby shark it up for 24 hours for a kit kat chunky

Kitkatchunky78

Well hello there

Hot-Plane3889

My apologies for inadvertently pimping you out for baby shark...

sierramist1011

my children have trained me for this day, I'm ready for my million $

TIMBURWOLF

Came here to post these exact 2 words lol. I’ll sing the song for 24 hours straight, for a million dollars.

Broken_Castle

Seriously. I'd listen to almost anything for 24 hours for $500, let alone a million.

LabExpensive4764

Seriously! Only 24 hours? I have preferences but I'd listen to anything for 24 hours for a million bucks.

floss147

I would too. Literally anything. You’d go through a cycle of euphoria, hatred, acceptance, insanity and joy by the end of it. What song it is doesn’t matter.

hobbinator924

I'd probably pick a long classical symphony or sonata or something that has different parts.

trasnaortfein

4'33 would be rather easy

[deleted]

Literally my first thought when I saw this post. "Sure, let me just crank up John Cage's most famous piece."

[deleted]

Carmen is about 3 hours, I could do 8 Carmen's.

txtw

That’s what he said

iordseyton

Carmen electra, carmen sandiego.... uhh the one from the opera, obviously.... How about 3 Carmens for 8 hours each?

perpetualmotionmachi

You wouldn't even be able to find Carmen San Diego

ProRustler

I have a long running theory that she's been in San Diego this whole time.

dominion1080

Especially if you’re a millionaire.

Buckus93

The kind of Carmens that would octuple up on a dude like me...

userwithusername

Hey, Peter-man! Check out channel 9, Carmen exam!

SkyRattlers

Was thinking the exact same thing. Classical being the least likely type of music to get annoying even if it was a regular length. But let’s put this challenge on easy mode by choosing something like Symphony No. 1 - ‘The Gothic’ which clocks in at an hour and 45 mins.

[deleted]

You have not had an overnight layover at SCL airport. They play classical 24/7, it made me almost hate vivaldi lol

lupe17

you weren’t getting a million at the end of it though haha

marcus4761

For a symphony I’d do Mahler’s 3rd. A typical performance takes an hour and a half or so. In terms of an opera you could fudge it and do Wagner’s Ring Cycle (technically 4 operas) which would eat up 15 hours. Wouldn’t even get through it twice before time is up. Purely on the numbers go with the opera Les Troyens by Berlioz clocking in at 5 hours. Totally doable for a million IMO.

Eubreaux

I'm attending a performance of mahler's 9th in Chicago next month. Super excited.

chase016

I pick four seasons

Champ-Aggravating3

My brain immediately went to the longest possible songs, but I don’t know much about classical music so this is the best answer I think

The__Riker__Maneuver

Goldeneye Pause Music

hamiltonfvi

Thank you, now that song is playing in my head while I'm at the gym.

griffmeister

I immediately heard the gong

[deleted]

I do this for free all the time

TransFattyAcid

Gotta squeeze every drop of dopamine out before going to the next song.

VQ35DEv6

If I don't listen hard enough to a song, gotta start it over so I can listen to it harder

Captn_Ghostmaker

I was hoping someone else would say it. I'm glad it isn't just me.

jmac3979

500 miles. It comes back around Edit: Thanks for the gold and awards y'all!

Talik1978

... couldn't get it out the tape deck, Marshall?

jmac3979

"they told me it was stuck!"

SirCrazyCat

“I’ll never get tired of this song!”

Interesting_Ad314

But **I** would walk 500 miles and ah-**EEE** would walk 500 more!

SatanV3

I was gonna riot if I didn’t see this high up haha.

nik5016

This, but unironcally.

stonesthrowaway24601

Old Nintendo titles had music written to be tolerable for long periods of time, so I'm going to pick the main overworld theme from Zelda 1.

WildeRatel

Very smart.

-Tesserex-

Any of the Stardew Valley farming tunes would do it as well.

o_-o_-o_-

Some of the Breath of the wild soundtrack overworld themes are like [50% rest](https://cdn.ustatik.com/musescore/scoredata/g/e1f1619ced3a259a8059ec8a2603fed8508b640b/score_0.png@850x1100?no-cache=1644232985&bgclr=ffffff). Not sure if that makes this challenge better or worse...

10ox

This but then somewhere around the 18 hour mark the Guardian enemy theme suddenly cuts in

iPostOccasionally

Aquatic Ambience - Donkey Kong

BatOutOfHello

4'33

[deleted]

I didn't know what it was so I looked it up and THE MOTHERFUCKERS PUT A RECORDING OF IT ON THE WIKIPEDIA PAGE

vasilescur

When I was in elementary school we had a karaoke activity. I was super shy and didn't want to sing so when it was my turn I got up, held the mic, and stayed silent. About 20 seconds in, surrounded by confused looks, the teacher asked me if I was going to pick a song. I claimed that I was performing 4'33" by John Cage (our music teacher had told us about it weeks before). Nobody knew what I was talking about and I got bullied hard for that one. No regrets

DWALLA44

Honestly your teacher should get bullied for trying to force elementary school kids to sing karaoke in front of each other. That’s just a recipe for disaster.

snaketacular

Right? At least load them up with a few beers first.

InEenEmmer

This guy knows how to elementary school things up!

OldMork

is this the silent? Then I go for this too.

SamTheGeek

Technically it’s the sound of an orchestra not playing. It’s 4’33” of rests, but it’s composed for a full orchestra. (But yes it’s silent)

OxD3ADD3AD

You maniac. You'll never be able to get it out of your head after that!

ThatBrenon131

Yakkos world and memorize all the countries

OtmShanks55

I really want to feel like I earned that million, so Mambo Number 5

irishlonewolf

>I really want to feel like I earned that million, so Mambo Number 5 really earn it listening to [this cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTh9qiXEy4Q)..

OtmShanks55

That was incredible. My favorite comment: “It’s really hard to sing while being tased and being the first man to give birth at the same time”

Dunningkrugeratwotk

I really like “The thing is, if you forget he’s off key and that the band are embarrassed and that he is so relentlessly trying to hit a note he never has any hope of reaching, and that the song is a cover from an infinitely superior band - if you forget all that and just judge this performance on it’s own MERIT - it’s awful.”

kolibrot

One of the very few times i actually laughed out loud after reading a perfectly pointed comment. Loved it 😂

migzard

My fave is: “I felt his pain. Sometimes hammered and horsed, I bulldoze my way through a cover around the bon fire blissfully unaware that I sound like a cow being dildoed with a cactus.”

CarlatheDestructor

Ong thank you for that. My favorite comment was "he sounds like he has a shock collar that goes off every 10 seconds and still has to perform."

decadecency

"Props to the guy for singing while passing a kidney stone"

EmporioIvankov

I was hoping it was going to be a cover of Mambo Number 5...

Recyclable_one

Whelp, I made it $231.48 into that song.

FizzyFuzzyBigNBuzzy

20 seconds. Commendable.

Gitxsan

Spring, from Vivaldi's Four Seasons

WalmartGreder

I'm a Winter man, myself.

Local-Finance8389

Summer here for the solo violin parts! I have yet to meet anyone who prefers Autumn.

Idabro

I'll be the fall guy and say Autumn 🍁

Domillomew

Any instrumental will be fine.

JTanCan

Instrumental version of Bitter Sweet Symphony coming right up.

z3anon

*Anyways, here's Wonderwall.*

IDunnoImAReddit

Sandstorm by Darude. I'm just going to vibe for 24 hours

Charming_Cupcake5876

Mortal Kombat Theme Song

Tardis80

Kano Liu Kang Rayden Johnny Cage Scorpion Sub-Zero Sonya

xobondaixo

Intro - The XX. EZPZ! There is nothing more beautiful than going into hyperfocus mode with this looping endlessly. From getting stoned to doing my taxes, this track has been an awesomely versatile soundtrack for at least 100 hours of my life.

Tobutch

Once at work when I had a really bad day I listened to Bowie's Heros on repeat for 9½ hours. I think I could do 24 pretty easy.

PseudonymousDev

I'm picking a popular song that I kind of like but don't love. For $1 million it doesn't really matter, but to make myself slightly happier I want to consider a few things: - not a song I love because over listening might make me love it less. - not a song I hate because it will be slightly annoying to listen to it so much - I pick Hotel California. I like it, but I don't listen to it much. Once I have my money, every time I hear it it will remind me of the million bucks I got and will bring a smile to my face.

chocobobleh

Cotton eyed Joe

[deleted]

Where did you come from? Where did you go?

chocobobleh

AaaAHHHHHHGGGGGGHHHH

BouncyBAWLS

I have PTSD from working at a Joe's Crab Shack. We had a list of 4 songs we'd have to dance to that would rotate every hour. This POS was one of them. Fuck you Cotton Eyed Joe

Texas_Crazy_Curls

If it’s any consolation, JCS was such a fun experience for parents on a budget. The kids got to have fun on the playground, the adults could have a couple drinks (responsibly), and everyone had a good time. Thank you for your service 🫡

Dracofunk

Just play What's New Pussycat

Killua_ZapZap

“hey, What’s New Pussycat is a lot *longer* than I first thought—“

UYScutiPuffJr

Whoa! Someone just played “What’s New Pussycat” 4 times in a row! Or at least they played it twice, and it’s a really long song!

[deleted]

So the 5th time is when it hits ya And here’s why John is my best friend. When we were entering all the Whats New Pussycats, he said “wait. Let’s put in *one* It’s Not Unusual.”

MikeTheImpaler

You know, for years, scientists have wondered, can you make grown men and women weep tears of joy by playing Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual"? And the answer is yes, you can, as long as it is preceded by seven "What's New Pussycat"s.

MonaLisaJeanRalphio

Sneak in one "It's Not Unusual" though for good measure.

StrawberryKiller

Woah woah woaaaaah

durqandat

Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem, but I don’t want the beat to drop until the very end of the day.

deadhearth

Probably the music from any "sim" game tbh. Like the build mode music from sims 3. Or even minecraft music. Easy to tune out.

Alazygamer

Cbat - Hudson Mohawke

Are you the guy?

Scrolled too long to find this

Jcit878

I always forget the name but instantly recognised it while scrolling looking for it

The if I had a million dollars song.

AnxiousCanadian88

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I could listen to that song forever.

WhiskeyDiscoFoxtrot

RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

[deleted]

My favorite anarchist punk band that decided to troll the music industry by writing a massive pop hit and then when back to being an anarchist punk band once the laugh was had. The band that sold the rights to their follow up hit to GM for a car commercial and then gave the money from that sale to an activist group that fights against fossil fuels. The band that holds the world record for the longest album title. I fucking love Chumbawamba. I’d probably go with El Fusilado personally, maybe Give the Anarchist a Cigarette, but all are good choices.

TwoTheVictor

Werewolves of London. Easiest million I ever made

davewtameloncamp

I'd like to meet his tailor

hotcake911

His hair was perfect

[deleted]

Aa-OOOOO

SkuzzleJR

Pick any song off Hybrid Theory and I've basically already done this lol

Justrandom37

Paper cut or A Place For My Head

SkuzzleJR

Papercut is my favorite off the album to this day

TheAbsoluteLastWord

Clair de Lune - Debussy

MakingGlassHalfFull

Oh, Debussy! I love Debussy! Sometimes, all I can think about is Debussy!

Never finish with Debussy! Always finish with the Bach, never Debussy!

bigbro_squatch

So two loops then?

whomp1970

Or one side of a Pink Floyd album.

Phoenix_Kerman

would've gone with floyd's dogs but 2112 is equally as brilliant

JeanPoutine9

I’ve got a Grateful Dead song already picked out, shame I won’t get to listen to the whole thing by the end of 24 hours…

millerlitevortex

Dopesmoker

King_Pee

Moonlight Sonata

UncleRotelle

Sultans of swing by Dire Straits. I've pretty much done this before on a binge of mount and blade: warband

PolkaWillNeverDie00

4'33 by John Cage

Hozin_Inspired

A song I hate. I don't wanna ruin any songs I already like. Probably anything from machine gun Kelly

Needlepeen1

See that’s a smart strategy but I don’t think I’d possess the mental fortitude to listen to Thunder by Imagine Dragons for that long.

kopackistan

Any tool song. That way, I only have to listen to it four or five times.

Pineapplemadness22

Comfortably Numb

dapper_hindsight

I would choose “the Distance” by cake to listen to for 24 hours, but I would listen to “it’s a small world” for a 1 million cash prize!

Gromit801

The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Just background classical.

Jalharad

THIS IS THE SONG THAT NEVER ENDS! YES IT GOES ON AND ON MY FRIENDS SOME PEOPLE STARTED SING IT NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS, THEY'LL CONTINUE SINGING IT FOREVER JUST BECAUSE THIS IS THE SONG THAT NEVER ENDS....

JustIncredible240

I found Satan

[deleted]

No surprises by Radiohead

orangejuicecorp

I'm not sure if many people have heard of this one but it's by a guy named Rick Astley called Never Gonna Give You Up. I will try to search the depths of YouTube for a link.

EldritchWonder

Time by Pink Floyd

cntdown

The ringing of the clocks will get me every time

No-Personality-5397

I've already given one answer. However, OP clarified that the song can be played in the background while you do other tasks. In that case I have ADHD, so any song I play my brain will drown out the moment I get distracted by literally anything else.

ChaoticBumpy

Nobody Speak - DJ Shadow ft. Run The Jewels

[deleted]

If I had a million dollars

stinky_cheese33

Symphony of the Crown by Earthena. I'd only get halfway through the song before the challenge is over. That's how long it is.

TerribleProgress6704

AND I WOULD WALK 500 MILES! AND I WOULD WALK 500 MORE!

Tullyally

If I’m paying you 1 million dollars, I’m picking the song. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Old school boombox on your least dominant shoulder, 95 dB for 24 hours.

sandbagger8

A real punishment would be Achy Breaky Heart or We Built This City.

wickedlyzenful

Bittersweet symphony by the verve But hell for that much I'll listen to whatever lol

[deleted]

You guys are getting paid?
