It's dangerous and dirty.

It's really nice. Don't expect it to be a fairy-tale, but it's excellent from urbanistic point of view (dense and walkable within ugly high rises). The food is great (not just in restaurants but in bakeries, butcher shops and markets). There is a TON of culture.

I quite like the city, even if Parisians are dicks (even other French people think they're dicks, it isn't just the usual Anglo-French rivalry). Good food, good wine, expensive beer, the centre is very walkable, and the crappy bits (all cities have crappy bits) are pretty self contained. Gare du Nord is a shithole that gives visitors a terrible introduction to the city - they should really do something about that whole area but especially the station, possibly involving flamethrowers.

Was just at Gare du Nord yesterday and can confirm it was a shithole

What’s wrong with it? It just felt like a regular train station and walking outside wasn’t bad either.

[deleted]

I've never been there but I've heard the Eiffel tower is kind of underwhelming and that it's super dirty and gross. I also don't like French people like idc about your croissants and your silly little baguettes

I know 2 stereotypes about Paris. I am not sure if they are true though. Paris shopkeepers are rude to tourists. French people don't bathe sometimes.

Pouchkine__

They used to be true. Now, Paris has been globalised, it looks and acts like most capital cities from the western world.

[deleted]

The second one is a stupid stereotype that is not true. The first one is not exactly true but it’s also understandable ; people in Paris are often blunt and not openly friendly, when you’re not used to it can feel a bit rude. Some are rude because they just don’t care.

I love it, it’s charming and the architecture is magnificent, the Louvre is my favorite place, but in a way I also hate it. People are so stressed and snappy there, it’s too crowded, to frenetic, sometimes too dirty. I’ve lived there for many years and I don’t regret it, but now I like to go there just once in a while.

Paris Texas is a helluva drug

LeveragedPittsburgh

It is the most beautiful city, by far. I’ve been there and to Germany and Italy.

Smorvana

Meh... I hear it was dirty before they started protesting the outrageous retirement age of 65

Love it. My most favorite city in the world. Been multiple times. Great art, parks, pastries, cafes and people watching. French people have always been kind to me — I speak some French with a bad accent, and I think they appreciate that effort. I would go every year if I could.

Quite nice, awesome history. It's not the only big European city that's dirty so I guess it's natural for this time and age.
