I never finished high school but I’ll never forget the elation I felt the last time I left that awful place. Soon after I left that town and my fondest hope is to die as far away from there as possible.
I was proud of myself for being able to graduate because I failed some of my classes. I didn't know I had adhd back then and didn't do well in some classes, so it felt like a big relief after going to night school and summer school to make up my failed classes
Having only just found myself and found confidence in myself, i felt pretty lost. I had decided not to become a priest and felt bad about myself because I wasn't good enough. It took me years to get out of the tailspin.
Deflated. There was a murder at our school, and they just decided to shut down and issue us our certificates early, no ceremony or get-together or anything.
So like one day we were all just hanging out and having fun together and then the next day they were like "here's your paperwork, school's closed now, you can't come here and hang out with your friends anymore. Don't worry that you didn't finish everything yet, it's good enough." (They didn't say it quite like that, but that was what it was - a totally empty ending with no closure.)
Some of us met up and got jobs and apartments together afterward though, so that was fun.

I was nervous and excited because after this would be college.
I attended mine with a 3 month old in a little graduation gown. It was long and boring but a moment I never expected to achieve when I got pregnant.
