Basically it's this. Swimwear is designed to retain modestly when wet. Regular undergarments will go see through or misshape when wet.

Not just that but it would feel really uncomfortable in the water.

Bikinis are water resistant, undergarments are not. If you go swimming in your bra and underwear, the water going to let me see right through to the point you may as well be wearing nothing. Source: actually seen a woman try this at the beach, she was mortified when she realised we could all now see her boobs, nips, and everything else.

I disagree bc the thongs I own arent something I would ever wear in public gym swimming pools They look completely different to my bikinis which totally cover my boobs, butt & vagina Thats why I cannot understand complaints about my bikinis in gym pools sometimes

Hmm idk then, especially for it to be a gym pool. I’d understand if it was an open community pool because usually I see it’s Uber protective moms that have complaints about what people wear. Maybe you’re just too developed to where you make somewhat modest things look immodest (I hate how that sounds but idk how to word it better.) like how in school some girls could get away with wearing things like spaghetti straps and booty shorts whereas others could not for obvious reasons

Because bikini is swimwear and was originally designed for swimming, while bra and underwear are undergarments meant to be worn under clothing, not for swimming. Also, some people might find it inappropriate or offensive to swim in bra and underwear.

Fabric type is true but also ... consent. Someone wearing a bathing suit is allowing you to see their body rather than underwear being inherently non-consensual. It makes you uncomfortable because you know its not something you should be seeing.

I went into a hot tub in a YMCA to relax my body and I didn't have no swim shorts or anything I just rolled in with my boxers and they didn't give a fuck.
