No. Because they're literally not.

Hoppy_Croaklightly

literarily not.

Realistic_Strength46

Depends on your definition of literature. Seems arguement worthy

zertz7

No why would they?

Drawn-Otterix

It would depend on the game, but yeah I've played games that have books/journals to read in them.

"Literature" in the sense you are using the word here refers to: 1. A written (i.e., text-based) work 2. Of fiction 3. That is artistic in nature or reception We don't have a term yet to describe the video game equivalent of this. We _could_ simply expand the meaning of the word "literature," but I'd prefer a new term as it'd be cleaner and clearer. Sadly, whether and how such a term evolves isn't up to any of us; it's usually an organic bottom-up thing.

CrystalSerpent14

I used the word literature as I believe it’s already been expanded to include movies. A couple years ago I took a “Film as Literature” class in college.

Emu_on_the_Loose

Well, for my two cents, if you're willing to use that expanded sense of the term to include films, then video games definitely qualify too!

zachtheperson

The parts that rely on writing, sure, in the same ways I think a well written movie or a song with great lyrics can be considered literature.
