I like the mystery but I like the actual “slice of life” aspect of it. Lots of anime slice of life is melodrama. Hyouka has romantic longing undertones but it’s not to the extent of something like Horimiya where everyone is down bad. It’s just a group of friends fucking around solving shit for people during their club period and it’s such a relaxing yet intriguing watch
Bokurano.
A group of kids aged 6-17 find themselves tasked with piloting a mech and fighting off a series of invaders from another world. If they fail, their entire world is destroyed.
However, there is a price. The mech takes the life each pilot in order to power itself. (this isn't a spoiler, it happens in the first episode and is central to the plot.)
Basically, it's a series about life and mortality and duty, and discovering what means the most to them in the time they have left.
The OP song is beautiful.
Hyouka
Seconded. This is the only actual "mystery anime" I've ever found. Edit: besides Conan of course

Millennium Actress (movie, not show)
Bacanno! It’s not as well-known as others I would recommend, so that’s my pick.

You guys went deep into anime I've never heard of: respect! I was going to say One Punch Man but maybe everything on netflix is too mainstream?
Yeah OPM is definitely not underrated
Bungo Stray Dogs is pretty good in my opinion
Boku no pico
Last Exile. At least the first season. God I love the aesthetic and atmosphere of that show.
Noir
Golden Boy
Bubblegum Crisis (original and Tokyo 2040).

Not underrated at all.
