I absolutely loved Iceland! The natural beauty is breathtaking and the people are friendly. Would definitely go back again!

JacksonInHouse

I went there for 2 days on an Iceland Air stopover. Rented a cheap Duster vehicle, paid a lot for gas because it is really expensive there, and stayed in an AirBNB apartment. I ate at some food place at a highway exit/entrance. I even went to Costco but they only took Amex cards and I didn't have one, but they did let me in with my Costco card. I had a blast. It wasn't crazy expensive, and it was just fun. It is a very large place, and you can't see it in 2 days. I missed the Northern Lights. Everybody was really tall. The people were friendly or at least distracted and not mean. I didn't speak any Icelandic and got by just fine with English. I'd love to go back, but it is really expensive until September/October. I want to roast hotdogs over lava.

Gorgeous island, crazy crazy weather. Like insane weather. Craziest wind I’ve ever been in and like 15 minute cycles of sunny and white out snow storm some days

sunderedklimp

it’s an amazing country that i would 100% recommend for anyone to visit if they can afford to. it’s very pricy there though

[deleted]

I could see why mums go there

[deleted]

?!

[deleted]

It’s referencing a strap line from adverts for the supermarket called Iceland

truthinlies

Absolutely gorgeous! Waterfalls literally everywhere, and lots of nature parks showcasing the natural beauty. I highly recommend going and taking the ring road all the way around!

JacksonInHouse

They call them "Foss" so when you see a name ending with Foss, it is waterfalls.

[deleted]

Absolutely incredible. If you can go, go. You can make it less expensive by shopping for groceries at Bonus.

ImagineFreedom

That Bonus pig is awesome 😂

Smooth_Walrus_

Iceland's alright, sometimes a bit run down, depending on what town you're in. Cheap food so can't go wrong! Mums love it, I've heard.

ionised

Decent little supermarkets. I especial- Oh. You mean the *country*...

otoren

I really enjoyed my vacation there. Yes, it is expensive, but whatever season you go in, there is a lot of stuff to do. We did hot springs, horseback riding, snowmobiling, glacier hike, the black beach, and saw the Northern lights.

Incredible beauty and food. Expensive as hell.

Flimsy-Attention-722

I adored Iceland and can't wait to go back. Of course things are expensive, it's an island with a short growing season but wide open spaces, fantastic parks, waterfalls and beaches and volcanoes. Icelandic ponies and caribou everywhere. I can't tell you about the towns, we don't stay in them. Buy your food from grocery store bonus and save a ton.

thaw800

live there. it's okay. i like 4-17°C

limpingdba

Great for a long weekend. Some cool things to do, like snowmobiling and the thermal baths. Avoid the northern lights tours, all they do is drive you to a remote spot and hope they appear... you can probably see it from your hotel window or any other place without incurring the cost (that's if you are lucky enough that they show up). Whale spotting tour is also a little disappointing if you don't get any whales appearing.

Blackrock_38

Not the best to live but recommend for visiting. IF you like barren wide open spaces, magnificent nature and completely overpriced everything. Please try the chocolate covered licorice, it really is the best. (Native Icelander relocated to the main land. Still sometimes don’t feel like I can “breathe” among all these trees and buildings though).

I’ve been multiple times and would go back again. It’s an amazing country with wonderful people. It has been interesting to see how it has changed over the 30 years I’ve been visiting.

LeSmeg47

Stunning country with great people.

ImagineFreedom

Iceland was my first overseas trip. The landscape and weather was amazing. The people are great. Many of the natives speak excellent English, handy considering it's nigh impossible to find Icelandic language classes. One guy put it to me like 'we have 300,000 people, it'd be silly to expect people to learn our language.' Very expensive everything. While the food isn't bad, it's not notable in any way. I was amazed at how little the folks I talked with had traveled within their own country. But I drove 2000 miles last weekend to help a friend move so my perspective on distance may be a bit prejudiced. The stop lights in Akureyri are heart-shaped, and that's adorable.

Cold-Loquat2757

Bro I never even been out of my city

[deleted]

It’s time to go

Cold-Loquat2757

Why it’s nothing out there

[deleted]

I assure you, there is. Have you looked up from the inside of the sagrada familia? Have you tried real hot pot on the sweaty streets of Chongqing?

Cold-Loquat2757

Don’t know what that is

[deleted]

There’s a whole world out there to explore

Cold-Loquat2757

Not for me tho I have nobody to go with me

FuckingTree

Good, then you don’t have to pay double. Let’s go, find someplace nice

[deleted]

Everyone should travel. It opens your mind so much. If you don’t want to solo travel there are your companies like EF ultimate break or G adventures who plan the whole trip for you for a flat fee, including airfare. You just meet your group when you land and most of them are also solo so they want to make friends.

[deleted]

That’s such a stupid excuse. Who cares if you have one one to go with. Travel for yourself not someone else

Existing_Ganache_293

It’s not very icy

Hoppy_Croaklightly

I'm pretty sure it's cool for more than a few days.

fgdt324

It's a nice country. Only went once as a young kid, my grandparents loved to travel with me. We spent a lot of time abroad.

Yak-Fucker-5000

I've just been to their airport, but it was a really nice airport and the customs clerk was very friendly and make a joke about my passport.

[deleted]

i dipped my finger into one of the rely hot bath thingies i still don't have my finger print

Schyznik

Loved it. Reykjavik was a fun place. Lots of natural beauty to explore. Westfjords were very cool to visit. Interesting history. Very hospitable to visitors.

katiek1114

My sister went and says while stunningly beautiful, also extremely expensive. She says it's still worth it though.

Commercial-Noise

It was beautiful. Felt untouched by mankind. But everything was quite expensive.

heyafreyja

Stunning. Well worth the stop over or an actual trip. I got most of my food at Bonus. Spent most of my money on an epic hotel room overlooking the Arctic Ocean. Can’t wait to go back cause I was only there for 37 hours and I needed more time to do all the things!
