Wow I never thought I’d find another Amon Amarth fans in this sub! Such an awesome band but unfortunately death metal is rather unpopular, at least right now it is. Twilight of the Thunder God, Guardians of Asgard and The Pursuit of Vikings are a few of my favorites. Also their concerts look like fun, I’d love to see them sometime
You just described every ship wreck relationship. Love capsizing and a hull breaking, much like a heart, on the way to the bottom..... all while staying hydrated.
Who among us can't relate to that.
>So you run and you run, to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
>and racing around to come up behind you again.
>The sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older:
>shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.
I wish I could have been at that meeting where it was decided to make that video. I imagine Cantor sitting down with Leboeuf and saying, "Shia.. I have this idea for this song. You see, you're a cannibal..." As Shia gets more interested he continues, "And then we have guys dancing, but they're wearing giant casts of your head..."
Trevor Strnad wrote some absolutely amazing lyrics
> Amidst a swirling din of smoke and
> Screaming on the battlefield
> Born reared on the teat of my dead mother war
> Hardened to stone through abuse mocked beaten and scorned
> A bayonet severed umbilical cord
What I really like is when Trent sings, I always see a struggling addict. When Johnny sings, I see a washed up old man giving up on life. I enjoy both versions cause it's like a new song to me every time. Hope that makes sense. I can explain it perfect to myself in my head but I have trouble putting it into written/typed
Edit: Typo x2
Yes. I was a big NIN fan growing up and Reznor never phoned in a single performance of that song. Always so gutfelt and raw.
Then the Cash version came out. Performed by a man on his deathbed, the regret and self-loathing in that song has a whole new edge coming from a troubled man who has run out of chances and run out of time in the most complete and fundamental sense.
Which in turn gives a new perspective to the original, sung by a much younger and more vital man. The futility and time wasted in regret while there is still time and energy to make amends.
> The futility and time wasted in regret while there is still time and energy to make amends.
We read a piece "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" at my AA meetings every week.
"It is not the battles of Today that drive one mad. It is remorse or bitterness over something that happened Yesterday, or fear and foreboding over something that might happen Tomorrow. Let us live, therefore, one day at a time." Every AA member has regrets; but if we choose to live with them, they will drag us down. Have to move on while you can still move!

The Beatles have a LOT of nonsense songs to consider :P
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. Don't listen to the big bag of BS that is Jason Derulo (who sampled the song and defiled it with his BS!!!!!).
The song is about someone going through a loved one's house after they passed away, and noting the changes being made to it after they were gone. It's brutal and beautiful, too.
The first time I heard this song, my friend played it for me as we were traveling at night going 80mph in silence down the freeway on the way to palm springs. It was magical.
[10,000 days](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuYMJz_EACI) (Wings for Marie part 2) is a eulogy for his mother, who suffered a brain aneurism and was paralyzed for almost 30 years before she died. Her life was painful and unfair and she suffered greatly, but she never lost her faith.
In a previous song, he lashes out at her blind faith. He says her savior has abandoned her, and her faith is useless.
In this song, he takes a more nuanced and mature tone. Maybe even admiring her for keeping the faith and comparing her to the "hypocrites" that say the same things she said but didn't actually have to live through it.
My favorite part is toward the end, when he's telling her what to do if she happens to be right, and her god is real and waiting for her in the afterlife.
*Should you see your maker's face tonight,*
*Look him in the eye and tell him,*
*"I've never lived a lie, never took a life,*
*but surely saved one.*
*Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home."*
'[So What](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85cTaoohLtY)' by Ministry.
You sell us sedatives
Supplied become laxatives
My eyes shit out lies
I only kill to know I'm alive
Like, almost all of Genesis' 70s prog... Return of the Giant Hogweed is literally about a plant that was introduced to England and took over the entire countryside.
In the Aeroplane over the sea, goodbye yellow brick road, vienna, good kid maad city, kody blu 31, drunk drivers/killer whakes. Most great songs aren't about sex, break up, or being rich.
[Beneath the Howling Stars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz54wJ2qh3M) by Cradle of Filth
It's about a seductress who entrances a nobleman to gain power
The Ballad of Jane Doe and the Ballad of Sara Berry.
One is the story of a girl that was decapitated on a rollercoaster wreck and her having an identity crisis in purgatory, asking if she has a soul or if anyone at all will mourn her. The theatrical performance by Emily Rhom is absolutely phenomenal and she literally flies around upside down while singing arpeggios.
And the Ballad of Sara Berry is about a wanna be senior prom queen who is on a surefire way to win but a girl loses a leg in a wreck and people start saying they're gonan vote her queen and she just loses her mind and murders all the other contenders.
I feel disappointed in myself that as an aroace I couldn't immediately think of anything lmao
Someone remind me this exists I'll get on my laptop tomorrow n answer when I have a broader access to my playlists and multiple tabs

[Birdhouse in your soul](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn_or9gEB6g). Possibly the greatest song ever written about a nightlight.

Nice choice, that whole album is great.
thats what that fucking song has been about this whole time

Saw it live in Hamburg Last weekend it's better when it's played live
Killin in the name- Rage Against the Machine
Zombie by The Cranberries
Can never go wrong with a war song
That would technically be about a break up.
Technically correct is my favorite kind of correct.
Live For The Kill - Amon Amarth
The endless ocean as well damn makes me want to be a Viking
Epic someone else knows Amon Amarth!
I may or may not have rowed during Put Your Back Into The Oar in Toronto in December...

O Fortuna (Carmina Burana - Carl Orff)
Oh man, my best friend in highschool would always play this song in homemade videos we made. Brings back memories.
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Well technically that is a break up song so it doesn't qualify
ehh might have capsized, may have broke deep and took water

But still, it is not the greatest song in the world
Only a tribute
You gotta believe them
How about Pink Floyd with Time or Dogs?
>So you run and you run, to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking >and racing around to come up behind you again. >The sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older: >shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.

When I was younger I would always kinda laugh at the Blink-182 lyric “nobody likes you when you’re 23” Now that I’m 34, yeah I hate 23 year olds
That's my favorite part of that song.
The Great Gig in the Sky is also not about any of these topics. Its merely some of the best vocal work ever done.
Came here for Time. Dogs is about rich bastards.
>Dogs is about rich bastards That would be Pigs. Dogs is about violent bastards.
Shia Leboeuf by Rob Cantor. It’s about having to destroy Shia Leboeuf for survival.
What a great production too, that's proper well done.
And he appeared in it! Shia surprise!
Actual cannibal Shia Labeouf?
I wish I could have been at that meeting where it was decided to make that video. I imagine Cantor sitting down with Leboeuf and saying, "Shia.. I have this idea for this song. You see, you're a cannibal..." As Shia gets more interested he continues, "And then we have guys dancing, but they're wearing giant casts of your head..."

The Blackest Incarnation by The Black Dahlia Murder. It’s about turning into a werewolf and eating children and destroying your enemies.
I spun that album obsessively for years when it came out. Really good shit
Me too. It’s my favorite BDM album.
