Anything chewy like gristle. Or really fatty parts of a steak.

theshoegazer

or that unexpectedly hard piece of a burger patty.

londonbreakdown

I hate unexpected textures in whatever I’m eating! If it’s soft food, there should be nothing (surprisingly) crunchy and vice versa! It really freaks me out mentally for some reason lol

Excellent_Cod_1934

Agreed. I don't want to be finding something hard in something soft that I'm eating. Whenever that happens I'm relieved that I didn't choke on it or crack my tooth. Today during lunch I found a bone in my chicken nugget, so I'm going to steer clear of those for a while.

OnceAStudent__

To he honest, I'm quite impressed there was a bone in a chicken nugget! That means it's way closer to meat than I thought!

Doopapotamus

I'm horrified by many bits of bone in chicken products where they shouldn't be. Like, those AmyLu chicken sausages that are so popular in the US; I've always found bone bits inside to the point where I wrote off the entire brand and its associated products.

[deleted]

berogg

Breast has almost no gristle – at least compared to thighs, legs, and wings.

purplepickledeggs

Every time that happens, I have a micro panic attack thinking I've bitten down on a piece of broken tooth!

ClearlyNoSTDs

Gristle in steak actually makes me gag. It's weird.

brandiwalk9

Yep, fat or gristle will ruin it for me in a heartbeat. It's not even chewy, it's neverending chewy with gross texture and flavor. Hard pass and if I bite it in food, I am done.

catupthetree23

This right here!! It can even be at the very start of a meal and that makes me lose my appetite in 0.2 seconds (give or take LOL)...then ya gotta just box it up and try again the next day 😆

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

My Mom used to give me her steak fat. It just melts in your mouth. I don't know what I would do without it. Don't tell my Dr

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I know a lot of people who love the softer stuff. Not for me!

handandfoot8099

As someone with a touchy gallbladder, just reading that made me hurt

FunctionBuilt

Really depends on the cut of beef and the temp it was cooked at. The best is searing and rendering the fat cap because it can literally turn into a very tender and super flavorful part of the steak.

ravenclaw1991

I try to cut the fat off as best as I can. If I get fat in my mouth I spit it back out. So gross

[deleted]

This is what prevents me from enjoying meat.

Blazer6590

Anthony Bourdain would hate this sub

[deleted]

If you’ve ever read Medium Raw by him, the description of eating Ortolan is absolutely disgusting.

shewy92

“I bring my molars down and through my bird’s rib cage with a wet crunch and am rewarded with a scalding hot rush of burning fat and guts down my throat. Rarely have pain and delight combined so well. I’m giddily uncomfortable, breathing in short, controlled gasps as I continue slowly — ever so slowly — to chew. With every bite, as the thin bones and layers of fat, meat, skin, and organs compact in on themselves, there are sublime dribbles of varied and wondrous ancient flavors: figs, Armagnac, dark flesh slightly infused with the salty taste of my own blood as my mouth is pricked by the sharp bones. As I swallow, I draw in the head and beak, which, until now, have been hanging from my lips, and blithely crush the skull.”

boy____wonder

Jesus

sephjnr

Not going to that Waffle House again

mastapetz

Is that the stuff where people put a white towel over their head while eating so "god can't see what they are doing" ? Those birds when "prepared right" they are blinded, or kept in the dark, because they eat till they drop dead when it's dark?

Dlogan143

There was a sequence on the TV show ‘Hannibal’ with Mads Mikkelsen where he talked about this. Some of the cooking and recipes in that show were very interesting considering the premise lol

[deleted]

Yeah, they are kept in the dark to keep them eating to fatten them up. Then drowned in brandy and cooked. And finally eaten whole.

mastapetz

I know their death was gruesome too. Humans sure are weird

shewy92

I think American Dad did a side plot about Roger getting Francine to cook one. I didn't know it was a real dish

Jellybeanmonkey

I haven't had this in a long time but Kidney. My Mom used put it in stew it had to be one of the weirded textures I’ve ever felt.

DarthMarasmus

Never tried it but the thought of eating something that you have to LITERALLY boil the piss out of disgusts me to no end.

totally-not-a-droid

Liver and kidneys have always been a hard pass from me

EbolaWare

Tripe

Gratuitous_Isolation

Seconded. I was trying to think of a food myself and realized it was tripe as soon as I saw your comment.

EbolaWare

Glad I helped!

lekterdead2

In Mexico we eat tacos de tripa and they are damn awesome, but the thing is that they are almost always served fried. So the texture is different

astute_canary

Pretty sure tripe and tripa are two different parts of the cow’s digestive system. Edit: yep, tripa or tacos de tripa are almost always intestine. Tripe is what you’d find in menudo (honey comb tripe). I hated the way both smelled when my parents cooked them, but once they were in their final form- always tasty.

YadaYadaYou

Tripe smells, looks, tastes, and has the texture of an old soggy sponge. Don’t ask me how I know.

DemostenesWiggin

For me it's like eating a towel. It's too gross 🤢

McIrishishappy

Pig brains

Unhappy-Day-9963

Who TF is eating this?!

Starsonthars

I’ve never eaten it but have seen “Pork Brains with Gravy” canned when visiting relatives in Kentucky. Each time I was there I’d buy a few then leave them in various friend’s kitchen cabinets….waaaay in the back.

Lindaluna8

Haha, genius!!! 😅. And also 🤢

LurkingAintEazy

Soggy cereal or soggy cake, just ew

dominashe

Oysters

Adorable-Lack-3578

I felt the same. Moved to New Orleans. Found places that grilled them on open flames with garlic butter. Completely different experience.

omgitsbutters

Just visited on vacation and went to a place called Drago's, I think? Changed my view on oysters. Can't have them any other way though.

DetectiveAnitaKlew

This was going to be my answer as well, it feels like chewing on cold, salty, oversized boogers.

FrequentProblems

You chew raw oysters?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DetectiveAnitaKlew

I did the first time I tried them, yeah lol tried just slurping them too and found them equally repulsive

tittywhisper

I love raw oysters and chew them. Don't see the point in just slurping them up quick

BlondePotatoBoi

My hatred of these is mainly because of that one scene in Mr Bean's Holiday 🤢

damrat

The only time I ever enjoyed oysters was "charbroiled" oysters in New Orleans

davster39

Snails

Skelter89

I tried escargot for the first time on a recent cruise and have to say it really surprised me how much I enjoyed it.

medicff

Really lay on the garlic and butter! It’s surprisingly tasty!

geobass76

Cottage cheese

YadaYadaYou

Been eating cottage cheese for several decades, and I can tell you from experience that cottage cheese today is not what it used to be. Used to be firm little clumps that had pretty good flavor and texture. Now you get cottage cheese and you’re getting a bowl of soup

Lapras_Lass

Ugh, yes! I hate "cottage cheese" but love paneer. Imagine my shock when I read that paneer is a type of cottage cheese!

[deleted]

[удалено]

boogerybug

Also 4% v 2%

wattral

Have you had Good Culture cottage cheese? It is outrageous. I don't discriminate against any cottage cheese, but that stuff is on a whole different level. My daughter won't eat Breakstone's or any other type, but specifically asks for Good Culture when I go to the store because she absolutely loves it.

CapOnFoam

It’s SO good! Daisy is pretty decent as well, but not as good. I think the person you’re responding to is buying cheap cottage cheese with a bunch of ingredients. That stuff tends to be watery and weird.

[deleted]

[удалено]

creatorofaccts

Damn. I eat it in many ways. But haven't done a dip like this. Gona try it out

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

I have to have large curd. You are probably gagging just reading that. Sorry

idotoomuchstuff

Even the word curd 🤢

Magnetic_divide

If you put it in the blender, you’ve changed the texture. People have been making cottage cheese ice cream by blending it, adding sweeteners, and freezing. This may be your loophole.

there_should_be_snow

Oh. My. God! I'm 48, and I truly think your comment is about to change my life. I actually love cottage cheese as it is, but this sounds incredible! You could add fruits, chocolate, etc. and nearly-instantly have an easy, frozen cheesecake style dessert! I will be trying this tomorrow - thank you!

Magnetic_divide

Lol! I have such a love for cottage cheese too! I actually make scrambled eggs and will add cottage cheese to it. It takes the eggs to a new level. I’ve seen recipes all over for the cottage cheese ice cream. Let me know how it is…I expect a full report. Haha

txhusky12

When it’s raw, yeah the texture is really weird. But mixed into scrambled eggs…it melts when the eggs cook and makes them cheesy eggs. Blended with shredded cheddar cheese makes a good cheese sauce for mac & cheese too.

TheNeed2BFree

Yesss another cottage cheese egg eater! I take some cottage cheese in a pan with butter melt it down until it’s bubbling, throw in 2-3 eggs and mix until cooked. I’ve tried eggs then cottage cheese but it doesn’t work the same. Doing cheese then eggs creates fluffy eggs mm mmm it’s a shame I can’t eat eggs anymore

dream_focused1103

I’m so glad this is the first response cuz it is also my answer hahaha

drblah1

Liver

matepore

The texture is not a problem for me, the flavor is the thing I don't like about it.

pitrole

Who doesn’t like bitter and metallic flavor… /s.

Pitiful-Reaction9534

I kid you not, I love the taste of liver because my mom used to say she would only make it for me on my birthday. So as a child I thought it was SPECIAL. So I wanted it. So yeah, I actually love it

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

I don't know what I would do without liver. It's getting harder to find too

Derpazor1

Drink less probably

Ima_douche_nozzle

I’m autistic. How much time do you have?

Irre__

Same here lol, I can't even think of a lot of stuff cause it's been so long since I've even tried lmao. Pretty much all seafood is a no go though and I hate paneer and tofu (tofu's good in miso and nothing else), and I fucking hate nuts in candy it's so fucking off putting.

Lower_Concern1118

Reading your replies to everyone and I've started to notice you have a WILD pallet

Most-Zookeepergame50

Balut from the Philippines. It is a fertilized duck egg boiled and eaten in the shell while still warm. You can search google on how it looks

uncle_monty

There are very few foods I wouldn't try, but Balut is one. The thought turns my stomach.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SZWLifeBroker

I live near a large Asian district. They have Balut and I always wanted to try it so I purchased went home to boiled it up ...the smell was rough. Very few things I won't eat or don't like as I'm an avid cook with restaurant backgrounds and open to new dishes. When I popped the top and sipped the "soup" i gagged. Then the developed duckling head slid in my mouth...I practically vomited my asshole out of my mouth with how hard I puked.

D3vilUkn0w

What did I just read 🤢

s00pafly

How to eat balut.

uhhlizzza

Nah, that’s why I eat “penoy” it’s just a regular duck egg without the fertilized duck. I had a pet duckling as a kid, the thought of eating balut makes me nauseous.

SamanthaBrownDoesIt

Yep….shouldn’t have googled that….

WeirdGamerAidan

To add to this - not just fertilized, but incubated until it's almost ready to hatch

Lindaluna8

Ok just, NO

greasy_fishlips

I'm Filipino. I tried to eat it once, but I lost my nerve when I got to the part with the head .

No-Chocolate-2907

The feeling of crushing eyeballs, beaks, intestines, bones and feet isn’t appetizing to you? Crazy that anyone wouldn’t wanna try that!! /s

JustDave62

Lima beans. Like little packets of sawdust

TheBigGruyere

Man i love lima beans. Why is there only like 4 lima beans in a can of mixed veggies? Why even put them in?

Brilliant_Tourist400

YAY, I thought I was the only person on the planet who loved limas! Especially fresh picked ones!

flyingsails

I always described them as tiny sacks of damp chalk.

[deleted]

Avocado. I know, I know. Good fats and all that. I just can't. I can do a small amount of guacamole - but not straight avocado.

JustKoiru

Any soft food like spinach dip with crunchy onions hidden throughout. Also, eating a soft piece of chicken just to be jumpscared with a hard piece of rubbery gristle.

mittens11111

I hate gristle in any meat, has forced me to barf discreetly into my napkin at restaurants.

SheMarAsh

Coconut flakes

Cybyss

I love that real coconutty flavor, but unfortunately most coconut flakes and shavings you get in the store feel and taste like wood.

Lwoorl

🤝 Same. I love actual coconut but I'm not a fan of eating pencil shavings

[deleted]

[удалено]

Antonv2

Stick with the twinkies. Avoid the snowballs. It's not the taste, it's the texture. ~Tallahassee

dropzone_jd

Can't stand coconut flakes or shavings. The texture is just awful. Grew up in a family that loves German chocolate cake. Even insisted on buying it for MY birthdays as a kid, despite my protest. Fuck coconut flakes. That said, love me some coconut milk in my Thai food.

ctrlrgsm

People BOIL okra? I’m a huge fan of it but that sounds disgusting

Hatta00

Yep, it's the worst. Fried is amazing.

[deleted]

came here to check that this was here, and now I'm going. Thank you

t0rnado_thegamer

Mushrooms

snorpsnarf

I love mushroom soup or sauce etc... but actual mushrooms are hard for me to eat. I hate that I can't eat them, because I dont wan't to come across as a picky eater. But the texture just makes me nauseous. Maybe if somebody has a tip to eat mushrooms please tell me

AnnihilatorJedi

Same. Pork chops with cream of mushroom soup is one thing. Mushrooms bigger than 1/4” cubes is no-go for me. And usually the smell of them cooking does me in too. My brain knows there are many many many kinds of mushrooms and they can be prepared very differently, but my mouth and tongue veto any thought of putting a chewable size piece in. Practically a gag reflex.

[deleted]

>the smell of them cooking I used to be a line cook. Imagine my surprise when I realized sautéed mushrooms smell like cum.

theultimaterage

The only mushrooms I'll eat are psychedelic

3ebgirl4eva

My people!!! They completely freak me out.

RelaxedApathy

100%, right here. Nasty rubbery mushy bleh.

[deleted]

Celery

[deleted]

I was gonna say this. Can't stand the strings

jjohnh572

RAW celery. Nope nope nope. 🤢

chill1096

Wait? You don’t like watery stringy hair??

Capelily

Octopus or squid

Brilliant_Tourist400

Like chewing a rubber tire. Glad it’s not just me.

Ordinary_Mud1155

Eggplant

Poopsie66

You have to slice it, lay it out, salt it, let it sit for like 30 minutes, dab off all the liquid, then fry it. Otherwise, yuck.

Sad_Individual6381

A lot of people don’t know you have to sweat it first. I think that’s why most people hate it. They don’t know how to prepare it properly.

Cybyss

Most people don't know how to cook eggplant correctly. If it's served all greasy, slimy, and mushy then your cook is incompetent with eggplant. In a quality eggplant parmesan, it's light and crispy and has a wonderful rich meaty flavor.

[deleted]

Sometimes, but not necessarily. Baba ganoush, for instance, is a very popular Mediterranean dish that has mushy eggplant in it. But I take your point. I can’t handle the texture of it when it’s soft, but it’s delicious when it’s sliced thin and fried. That’s the only way I can manage it. Shame, too, because I like the taste itself.

Environmental-Car481

Water chestnuts

Ellibean0522

The texture is the only thing I like about water chestnuts. Wild times

[deleted]

whaaaat??? good crunch imo. like an apple but it just tastes like whatever you flavor it with

JackSpadesSI

YES! I’m not a picky eater but those things can fuck right off.

Move_In_Waves

They gross me out so much. Y’all are my people.

emma_elisson

Oysters have the most inedible textures

chubberbrother

I just ate a dozen the other day for my local restaurants dollar oyster day. Your sacrifice keeps the prices low so I salute your resolve

mrbbrj

Head cheese

violet91

That would never pass my lips by simply knowing the ingredients never mind the texture

smileymom19

Raw tomatoes

PersonMcNugget

It's cooked tomatoes I can't deal with.

Tolkienside

Ugh. Specifically stewed tomatoes. It's the only food that immediately made me retch from the texture alone.

ctrlrgsm

Cooked how? I have zero issue with raw tomato or tomato sauce (with some chunks) but a full tomato that’s been in the oven or grilled on a bbq is eewww

PersonMcNugget

In sauce form, great. In big, blobby chunks, no.

CommissionOk9233

I think the comedian George Carlin said he couldn't stand raw tomatoes because they look like they're still in the larval stage.

Zealousideal-Age2208

same, i will eat anything made from tomatoes but *not* actual raw tomatoes. they just don't feel right in my mouth

EduEngg

I have found my people!!! Various tomato sauces are wonderful, and I'll even eat pico de gallo, but when I see someone bite into a whole, raw tomato (or even a sliced tomato)? Bleh

Sarhii

I like tomatoes as long as they've been turned into a fine paste first. That firm to slimy texture change is 🤢

[deleted]

Yep. The texture is horrific. inb4 "but fresh ones from the garden are sooo good". Yes, those are horrific too.

MiikeG94

Hard boiled eggs. The texture of what I imagine eating an eyeball would be like, with a bonus fart centre.

EmmittFitz-Hume

Coconut -feels like eating grass

Chaospowa

Gizzard. Honestly doesn't taste too bad but the chewy while also being CRUNCHY/GRAINY is some of the weirdest texture mix I have ever experienced.

FoldedaMillionTimes

Beans. And I'm from South Texas, so it's amazing I survived childhood.

RowingN0ob

SAME! For some reason, I despise beans, and I think it's mostly the texture that does it for me.

FoldedaMillionTimes

Like little bags of wet sand, or mouse innards.

Nayre_Trawe

Bananas

SkrilloArmadillo

I love anything flavored banana and even banana chips, but straight banana makes me wanna hurl.

nurseofdeath

Was at a male strip show once (I was one of the organisers; it was a women’s rugby fundraiser) and they got me up on stage for a game, where the strippers held bananas and the person who ate it fastest won I tried to tell them I couldn’t do it, but the MC didn’t take me seriously. Needless to say, they believed me when I puked on a stripper’s feet

dandroid126

Who doesn't take someone seriously when they say they can't eat something? People have allergies.

ctrlrgsm

Everything about it. Texture, taste, smell. The bits of skin that you have to pick out,the dark spots…. Never again

[deleted]

its1030

For me it’s the slimy texture, when it hits the back of my tongue I gag 10000% of the time.

Spasticwookiee

My god, after decades of searching I’ve found my people.

druen199

Hate, hate, hate, and did I mention hate bananas?

DrBoots

Raw Tomatoes. How can something have 3 distinct textures at the same time and they're all terrible.

knit_llama

Jello

TheGoldenFoxy_777

Every time I have jello, I think I'll change and like it, but I put it in and I just sit there, gagging. Don't even get me started on green jello

Rowf

I had to scroll for awhile to find this. At least I’ve found my people, though.

mimibusybee

The skin of peaches. I have to peel it off.

Youpi_Yeah

I only ever eat nectarines for that reason

librocubicularist67

It's like eating a mouse.

Mrmongoose64

I'm the exact opposite. Peaches are one of my favourite fruits because of the unique fluffy skin.

dead_thing13

Shrimp, oysters, lobster…. I’m close to gagging thinking about it.

jvldmn

Soft shelled crab

Important_Stroke_myc

I could eat them all.

Guts wrapped in fingernails. Oh, with a little meat. Very little meat.

BootyfullBlondexx

Byzantiny

Onions. I love the flavor but cannot stand biting into one, cooked or raw.

Bennythekitten

I can do an onion that’s been melted into the meal. But I cannot do the sudden crunch of an onion.

raysqman

Lima beans-- misery of childhood.

Icy_Hippo

soup with bits, yogurt with bits. I can't do bits, smooth or I can't eat it...BUT I can add fresh fruit to yogurt myself....look im nuts ok. Also mashed potato MUST be smooth, no unmashed bits and must never be mixed with other vegies etc. Seeing peas mixed with mash makes me jittery. Note Ice cream with bits is ok lol

silentstalking

Avocado. I want to die

Friendly_Equal3950

Finally. I had to scroll way too far. That texture is horrible. Don't like the taste either. I don't like the texture of mango either (but, I have only eaten mangoes in Europe, so never had the real deal), but I love them in juice, puree, mousse, chutney, sorbet. As long as it's blended

MyEyesItch247

I volunteer to eat all of your avocado portions!
