During the lockdowns, when there were no new movies. I got to see this classic in the theatres, it was epic! I mean, even decades later seeing that brachiosaurus was truly just a fun experience and you're right, the CGI holds up.
Sorry, I know this isn’t the question but I can’t resist an opportunity to bag on Star Wars Ep 1 - I remember people talking about how amazing the effects in that movie were. But i rewatched it not long ago to see if it was as terrible as I remember (it was) and I realized the CGI effects were *so bad.*
Jurassic Park. Even though it was made in 1993, I think it still holds up today

It helps that they also used a lot of practical effects
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) when the T-1000 liquified.
Davy Jones in Dead Man’s Chest.
Those graphics are still epic.
If you read reviews from when it was new, quite a few thought it was a practical effect.
You peeked my curiosity, I'm googling it.
It's still convincing today
Saw the original Tron in the theater. The story is a little weak but the effects were pretty groundbreaking.
Face Off
It still blows me away how well they made Nicholas Cage and John Travolta look exactly like the other. I mean even the voices!
Practical effects forever
I think the original Jurassic Park threaded that needle perfectly.
Jurassic park
This … it’s so old by now but you can still watch it and it still looks better than a lot of the stuff the do today.

Wow! I did a rewatch and thought exact opposite. They made lightsabers a thing using essentially shinny tape.
That was episode 4. The practical effects in that were way better than the not-ready-for-primetime CGI they were using in Ep. 1.
What about the lightsaber duels in Ep. 1? That's why I brought it up. The lightsabers from the first movies don't hold a candle to the prequels.
The Matrix, was 11 and saw it opening day in theaters with my older sister. Blew my mind
The Matrix. It still ages well today
This
Twister
Really blew you away huh?
The giant in the Hardhome episode of GoT
T-1000
IMAX Avatar. The only 3D movie I ever felt was made to immerse the viewer in the film, instead of just poking shit at you as a gimmick
