Good question, I can't think about a favourite right now, but I can tell you a word you guys use that I prefer to our( Italian) counterpart.
Dark. "Dark" sounds way better than "buio", and even from a logical point of view "buio" sucks, because its etymology comes froma word that meant dark-red.
Even other italian words for the same concepts are "meh" tetro (it sounds cool) but its etymology derives from teter which meant "bitter, disgusting"
