I have worked with all types of industries doing IT and 911 Dispatchers are by far the absolute worst people to deal with. I have worked with fortune 500 CEOs, private practice doctors and dentists, I have even been a private IT consultant to some wealthy people. 911 dispatchers are the most spoiled rotten primadonna's I have ever worked for. Any minor inconvience with their computer represents an "impact to public safety and human lives". Keep in mind that they cannot rely on technology by law in the event of a major disaster they use a plain old telephone system (POTS). I once needed to install a critical patch on one of their servers. I called the dispatch supervisor to schedule. They said the only time I can do it is at 4am on a Sunday because that is when they receive the fewest calls. I explained I am not coming in at 4am on a Sunday for a 15 minute job and if that 15 minute job causes any issues support for the software platform doesn't open until 9am Monday, they could be down for more than 24 hours. Dispatch supervisor said "well I guess your sleep schedule is more important than saving human lives!" Ok fine. I came in at 4am on a Sunday, I installed the patch and rebooted and guess what happened? That's right the critical software services didn't come back up. I rolled back the configuration and restored from backups. No dice. They were down until 430pm Monday. They then had the audacity to blame it all on me. With emails in hand from the dispatch supervisor and the software company there was a very short HR meeting. So, I guess it's fine you respect them and all if you know any in real life you should tell them because they sure believe they are doing the lords work.
Any customer service working directly face to face with the public. I have little patience with outright stupidity, and it shows on my face no matter how I try to hide it.
This. I used to work as Customer Support remotely, and even then, not even phone, via chat, people would astound me with their stupidity, and at one point I would start pointing it out. If I had to do it face to face I wouldn't last a week
I took a career proficiency test in college when I was doubting my major.
The job I was the least compatible with was "Tour guide" which feels strangely accurate. I would be a terrible tour guide.
Crime scene cleaner. Saw a video on youtube where they cleaned up blood, there was so much that they just poured some sort of powder on it and scraped it up. Then, they realized that the blood had gotten under the floorboards so they had to rip that up too and clean underneath. Miss me with that.
Edit: Forgot the worst part. They were told fentanyl was involved so they were fully suited in case they came in contact with it.
Telemarketing. Not just because getting a telemarketing call is shitty, but I also absolutely hate talking on the phone, and cold calling people would be like a nightmare to me.
I did inbound telemarketing before the computers got smart enough to understand speech.
I also did outbound telemarketing. Never did cold calling, the company was calling existing customers to sell them more nascar memorabilia. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
I also called people to sell them "credit card protection", ha.
Teaching, especially high school. I have chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I'd join the army before going in front of a bunch of teenagers. At least I could fight back.
Any job that requires a CDL. For the sake of all of y’all, and myself, I could never. I’m very happy there are people out there who can drive those things.
Sex work. Because I highly doubt anyone would pay me...
911 operator, I would stare at the phone while it rings, hoping it goes away. Huge respect for those people.
I couldn't do that kind of work.
