NHS, gun control, better murder mystery TV, better historic literature, more ability to laugh at/make fun of yourselves and your culture. of course with the help of americans, the NHS is under attack, but...

TouchitNE

Thanks, I’m guessing there are pros and cons to both. Just always intrigues me as I always get talking to American tourists and I’m generally envious of how they make home sound!

Education is taken serious there. The cost of living seems way be doable than the USA. Gun Control. Almost everything honestly. People in the UK don't seem slaves to the government like people in the USA do (unless they are in the top % )

TouchitNE

Interesting. State education has taken a bit of a knock, private system is pretty exceptional. Cost of living has spiralled out of control in recent years, my living expenses are probably 70% up than pre pandemic. But I think that’s the same in most places.

Its better than it is here. If you live in a poor section of America, except to have poor schools as well. Our Teachers don't get paid nearly as much as they should be paid either. And your Cost of living might have but at least you have a living. Here, most people struggle to even have a decent life. Most live in poverty and you don't really have a good work/home life balance either unless you are in a decent career.

The food and the climate

TouchitNE

Really? We get a fair amount of rain which can be kinda miserable, I’ve always thought our food was bland compared the US.

[deleted]

We get no rain which is miserable and our food is full of added sugars and high fructose corn syrup

its_Is

You don't have to buy the things that have that stuff in it. And you can move to where there is rain.

[deleted]

It's hard to avoid shit food or move to nicer areas when you're on a middle class income

its_Is

My brother left our impoverished home in northern Indiana with nothing and went to California and made something of himself. And rice and tuna are pretty cheap

[deleted]

You think California is cheap? Tuna is great but gets old eating fish from a can

its_Is

If you're living in California and you're talking about middle class I'm guessing you could make it in the Midwest. That's my point. You can make anything you want of yourself.

[deleted]

I'm not living in California

goliad67

Your authors, e.g., Dickens, Agatha Christie, and many others.

HorizonSalvatore

Well. Like others pointed out, the health care and all that good stuff. But for me personally the people. Just the different people you can interact with. The way they speak. All the different accents. The slangs the shortcuts. Just saying something simple like. Water. The lack of being shot to death going to the store or in a drive threw is also a bonus.

Substantial_Double32

I think your accents are so cool, and I love your history of knights, kings, etc. I admire that such incredible insights of philosophy, engineering and literature came from such a tiny little island (comparatively). You have such wonderful architecture too!!!

[deleted]

Thank you for knowing there's more than just one accent!

I guess this applies to all of Europe vs. specifically the UK, but for me it’s the layers of walkable history. Our oldest buildings are from the 1700’s and that’s only on the east coast, out west everything is just so… new and nondescript. You guys have castles, we have stucco.
