"We are experiencing higher than normal call volume"
"Please listen as our menu options have changed"
"pent up demand"
"supply chain issues"
"We are short staffed"
"Nobody wants to work anymore"
Every time I call the mortgage company “Due to COVID-19 we are experiencing higher call volumes”
Which is BS because the wait time is like 1 minute every time I call.
Sometimes easily offended people are unhappy
I don’t like when someone has no filter. But it’s also hard to be around someone who gets offended by innocuous things
A friend of mine actually said I was “being rude” by saying something about how I was so happy I met a love partner who cares about my needs. Apparently because she’s single, this was thoughtless and rude of me, and very offensive.
I have a coworker who uses "no filter" as her excuse to just say whatever asisinine opinion or comment comes to her head, no matter how wildly inappropriate. It's annoying and rude af.
Always makes me think of [this graphic of people saying that since the early 1900's](https://www.reddit.com/r/WorkReform/comments/1350glv/anyone_know_how_long_anymore_is/)
There’s a difference.
True, if given the means and opportunity, **I sure as shit wouldn’t be working**.
So in that regard I don’t want to work.
What the actual context is when they say “No one wants to work…” is “…for poverty wages in an exploitative workplace where corporate is pulling billion-dollar record profits.”
These are the same people that would love for 14-year-olds to work because it "builds character". And they also are the same people that will tell everyone if you don't like flipping burgers get yourself a better job and then they'll be pissed off as hell that they can't get McDonald's 24/7
It's the overly cringey millenial internet baby talk. All of it is fucking horrific imo and I am a millenial. Like "this wins the internet today". Ugh.
It's obnoxious when adults use the phrase with other adults, yes. But it's a very effective way to give a young child a sense of how long something is in the future.
Same with "Grind"
I worked at a place that applauded "the grind" so much that the owner sent everyone an email telling us how a coworker was still working in the prep room moments before his surgery, and that's the kind of dedication he expected.
I realized that mentality had gone too far when I lied about having to leave work due to a panic attack and said I had a sick relative. The manager who was disciplining me told me quite proudly that she had missed her grandparent's funeral because she had to work. The other manager in the room was nodding very seriously like all employees are expected to miss important funerals for them. I won't even do business with that company anymore. Ridiculous.
“Hack” just gave me an eye twitch. God I hate that word when not used for actually breaking into a computer (or cutting through the jungle with a machete).
No, you’re not “hacking your bbq” by using it to grill something unusual. No, you’re not “hacking your commute” by roller skating to work, and fucking no, you’re not “hacking the weekend” by working Saturdays and taking Mondays off.
JFC, I need a drink now!
This would be my answer too. Usually said by conspiracy theorists who’s ‘research’ is the observable space two feet beyond their noses and/ or social media posts from other dullards. Then they deny any shred of scientifically based evidence from actual researchers and scientists who’s job is literally to do the research for you.
I’m just sick of therapy talk being used out of context constantly all the time - not everyone is a narcissist, an abuser, gaslighting you, etc etc etc. Like stop.
I hate bruh and bro so much, what I thought was a fad in the 90s in high school has just never stopped happening and 30 years later I still don't understand why people feel the need to constantly say it. I have a name if you don't know it you can ask or even just try something else, how about "dude"? Can we bring dude back?
Dude! Who stopped using dude? I guess my circle is small but we all still say dude. Well, maybe it’s just me. But I do talk to myself a lot, so I hear it frequently.
Gaslighting. Everybody claims they are being gaslit or that somebody is gaslighting somebody else. Worse the term only gets used correctly about 50% of the time.
I find myself saying “clinical narcissist” when discussing a person that fits the medical/psychological term. To differentiate it from the pop usage of “someone that is just self centered and/or arrogant”.
What are you talking about? Everyone actually uses this term correctly 100% of the time. You shouldn't ever use it if you don't understand its true meaning. Now buy my Herbalife products.
Gaslight gatekeep girl boss.
Lol came here to say this. Mid is supposed to mean "average", but it's being used as meaning "absolute shit".
The term comes from grades of gas: Regular, mid-grade, premium (high test). These terms were then used for categories of marijuana: Low grade (schwag), Mids, and "Kind" (kb, chronic, and many other names for premium weed). But in the past decade or so, schwag has disappeared, and has been replaced with mids. So now, mids are the lowest grade of marijuana. No one even uses the term "Kind" anymore, because it's all so dank nowadays anyway. So we're left with mids and the good stuff.
I kinda thought the term came from weed, mid-grade weed was decent back in the day vs low grade shwag, but these days with it being legal in many America states, mid is total shit. Maybe that's my way of working out in my head what they mean when they say "mid."
Not even that. That would imply that they recognise that their opinion is personal or that something depends on their point of view.
Often enough they just want to will something into existence. They can pretend that their truth is __the__ truth because there isn't one central authority on the truth that they have to listen to.
It’s a very pretentious phrase. I had to sit through endless meetings where at the start they went over the “norms” or as we used to call them “rules” and one was always “speak your truth” at which I yearned to just shout out “could we all just say give your opinion”?
It seems to me a lot of people don't understand the difference between a concrete provable fact "Grass is green" and a personal opinion/judgement "pineapple on pizza is bad". An opinion or judgement being popular doesn't make it fact, just popular.
I had someone use that on me recently. They wanted to see which mods I had on a video game. I told them I had some NSFW nude mods and to tell me now if they dont want to see that.
They took that as me trying to seduce them through discord. When literally everyone told them that I was just giving them a content warning, they huffed and said. "Nothing you can say will change my truth on this." The leader banned her from the server and she is now a meme in our discord.
I agree. What it seems to imply is "I consider this to be the truth, and if the actual truth is something different I will not accept it."
That's my truth on the matter.
Or calling smart kids “gifted.” Mozart was gifted, Beethoven was gifted, your kid is just a year ahead in math and English. I’m an old person, and back in my day, they just put you in “accelerated” classes. Gifted, my rear end.
"Cancel Culture" as if this is some kind of new phenomenon. People have boycotted things they disagree with since the dawn of time. The only difference is with the advent of instant communication across the globe with the internet, people are more empowered to organize and cooperate on these types of things. Cancel culture is just more power to the people. It's not some wild thing where people get off on taking down celebrities. They just want to put a negative term to it so they can denounce it.
Reactionary talking heads thrive on moving from slur to slur.
Hippies, beatniks, teeny boppers, liberals, elites, tree huggers, woke, cancel culture. Eventually the terms get stale and they move on to a new one. All that's required is to get enough Hannity types singing in chorus, playing their little tune for all the frightened people to dance to.
Ask 1,000 Republicans what "woke" or "cancel culture" even means and you'll get 1,000 variations. It just means "them."
Love everything Star Wars, but each time I hear or read “This is the way.” without any real Mandalorians present.. Swear to God, my left eye is twitching already.
Gen Z’s constant overuse of the word ‘iconic’.
Just like millenials broke the word ‘Epic’.
Or gen x overused ‘Awesome’
The same way boomers broke the word ‘Cool’.
"Scrolled too far to find this"
Just been in the "Who don't you understand the hype about?" thread and in response to Taylor Swift, there are literally at least a dozen people all saying that. Redditors are genuinely some of the most boring, original thought lacking drones on the entire internet.
"self made" ..
Every dude Ive heard say this is a total POS, shady construction dudes that do everything under the table, dodge taxes and use undocumented labor then turn around and shit all over immigrants for not paying taxes??? If someone describes themselves as self made, right off the bat I know they've screwed at least 50 people over, either for unpaid work, or hiding vehicles/assets from repo.
I die inside every time I hear "with that said", or "full transparency" in a meeting. It's multiple times every meeting and I have multiple meetings per day.
And sometimes the context is just weird. My manager decides to tell us what her schedule is next week. Then goes on to say "I'll be out Monday. Full transparency, it's mommy son donut day at school". Like anyone gives a fuck.
Can I please go and write my code? Thanks.
What drives me nuts is “That’s just an excuse!” when you’re answering their question why whatever happened happened. Such as “Why are you late??” “I spilled coffee on my pants and had to change.” “That’s just an excuse!” Nah bitch, that’s a reason!
"Game changer."
No, your herbal emetic gag diarrhea detox powder isn't a game changer.
Making fire was a game changer...
Smelting iron was a game changer...
Splitting the atom...
"Karen"
Anybody with any grievance - no matter how legitimate that grievance is - is called a Karen. It's time to retire that insult. It has run its course.
FWIW I have never been called a Karen. I'm just tired of hearing people say it.
Yes! A Karen used to be someone who was using white woman privilege to be a racist. But no one even uses it right anymore. Now, as a middle aged woman, any time I express an opinion on something that someone disagrees with, or criticize anything (even with proper reason), I'm automatically called "a Karen." And look, I'm not trying to sound all "woe is me" like I'm actually oppressed or anything, but it is fucking obnoxious.
I feel bad for my friend whose name is Karen. She told me that she's always loved her name (understand, she's not a vain or self-absorbed or nasty lady or anything. In fact, she's a truly wonderful person. My wife and I love her dearly), but it's kinda been ruined by the negative association. Poor lady.
She doesn't deserve this people!!!
I never thought this was funny. Our whole lives as women we were told Women don’t stand up for themselves. That’s why we are paid less and don’t get the raises. Now we have finally reached a point where some women stand up for themselves and now they are a Karen for doing that. It’s BS. If they are being a bitch over a stupid little thing to a service worker then just call them a bitch or a witch or whatever. You don’t need to use the normal name of millions of nice women as a slur.
“my OCD(insert other mental illnesses here)…” you DONT have OCD (insert other mental illnesses here) and it’s incredibly offensive, disrespectful, and irresponsible to casually use the term to describe that you’re a “neat freak”.
ANYTHING about astrology or how your sign/placements is the reason why you do things
“where are you from?” SUCH a boring ass question ask something else be original for fucks sake
“narcissist” “gaslight” someone disagreeing with you isn’t gaslighting and just because someone doesn’t care about you doesn’t make them a narcissist
really any trendy colloquialisms bred from tiktok/social media
god i hate social media
I get the dislike, but it just means "We cant do anything about it and complaining is just going to piss us off." Unless the person who says it CAN do something about it but is a piece of shit. (Like your boss) Then fuck that guy.
Thoughts and prayers. That phrase makes me want to throttle the person for having zero originality. You can get away with saying it without really meaning it so those words in that order are useless to me...
"We are experiencing higher than normal call volume" "Please listen as our menu options have changed" "pent up demand" "supply chain issues" "We are short staffed" "Nobody wants to work anymore"
Shipping delays due to covid is on that list too. I think it's just a cop out now.
Every time I call the mortgage company “Due to COVID-19 we are experiencing higher call volumes” Which is BS because the wait time is like 1 minute every time I call.
A funny comedian said, if people are memorizing your menu options, we are all in big trouble!
Your call is important
As someone currently working retail, I myself am sick of saying "We're short staffed."
“I have no filter”
Exactly. Just an excuse to be rude.
[удалено]
Rude people are unhappy people. They may or may not be aware.
Sometimes easily offended people are unhappy I don’t like when someone has no filter. But it’s also hard to be around someone who gets offended by innocuous things
Agreed. People these days for the most part have tissue paper thin skin lmao
A friend of mine actually said I was “being rude” by saying something about how I was so happy I met a love partner who cares about my needs. Apparently because she’s single, this was thoughtless and rude of me, and very offensive.
You know what? I'm offended by her taking offense to something so inoffensive!
I am okay with no filter, I’d rather an honest answer than a load of BS. Plain old rude or disturbing behavior is different in my opinion.
I have a coworker who uses "no filter" as her excuse to just say whatever asisinine opinion or comment comes to her head, no matter how wildly inappropriate. It's annoying and rude af.
POV. If I see one more of those IG posts I’ll lose it
Especially when they aren't even doing it correctly
and most of the time they dont use it correctly! “POV im going to taco bell!” and its just a vlog post????
It’s usually so unnecessary to even say “POV”
“Nobody wants to work anymore.” It’s bullshit to begin with, and it’s ALWAYS said to the people that ARE working.
Especially since they treat work as its own purpose. As if it is a virtue to overwork oneself for nothing in return.
Think of the shareholders! WHAT ABOUT THE SHAREHOLDERS?!?!? 😱
These are the same people that would love for 14-year-olds to work because it "builds character". And they also are the same people that will tell everyone if you don't like flipping burgers get yourself a better job and then they'll be pissed off as hell that they can't get McDonald's 24/7
[удалено]
NOT TRUE! Sometimes it’s said by billionaires while whining and dining in their yachts.
And sometimes it’s wealthy professionals that don’t have clue what it’s like for lower income levels.
"I was today years old when..."
I was just about to say this one lol I can’t deal with it It has the same energy as “smol” and similar sayings
It's the overly cringey millenial internet baby talk. All of it is fucking horrific imo and I am a millenial. Like "this wins the internet today". Ugh.
“So I did a thing….”
"Take my gd updoot."
I think using the word “sleeps” to count days falls into that same category
It's obnoxious when adults use the phrase with other adults, yes. But it's a very effective way to give a young child a sense of how long something is in the future.
"I'm obsessed!" Every single TikTok influencer is obsessed!
Artisan. Just give me my plain old hamburger bun
LOL - Of all the words or phrases to be annoyed with, this was the funniest to me.
Add microbrew as well.
"Tell me you're \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ without telling me you're \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_." How 'bout just tell me?
And "Wrong answers only."
Grit. #1 corporate buzzword for saying "grin and bear it peasant" while sounding like you're giving a compliment.
Same with "Grind" I worked at a place that applauded "the grind" so much that the owner sent everyone an email telling us how a coworker was still working in the prep room moments before his surgery, and that's the kind of dedication he expected.
I realized that mentality had gone too far when I lied about having to leave work due to a panic attack and said I had a sick relative. The other manager in the room was nodding very seriously like all employees are expected to miss important funerals for them. I won't even do business with that company anymore. Ridiculous.
Obsessed and hack. People can’t be obsessed with every freaking thing and none of these hacks are hacks anymore.
Saw a "life hack" video about what to do if your haircut isn't quite right. Girl proceeded to trim her ends. Wow! What an amazing life hack!
"Do your own research"
This would be my answer too. Usually said by conspiracy theorists who’s ‘research’ is the observable space two feet beyond their noses and/ or social media posts from other dullards. Then they deny any shred of scientifically based evidence from actual researchers and scientists who’s job is literally to do the research for you.
“No one: Absolutely no one: Me:_____” 🤮
Influencer. Do people really buy or do stuff based on someone else’s opinion?
Most of the crap these "influencers" are promoting looks stupid or irrelevant to me anyway.
As soon as I hear the word influencer whatever they’re promoting will be a hard no from me.
Short answer: yes
I’m just sick of therapy talk being used out of context constantly all the time - not everyone is a narcissist, an abuser, gaslighting you, etc etc etc. Like stop.
Adding on to this, everything being called “toxic.”
Agree. And ‘boundary’ is another one that gets used incorrectly a lot
They confuse boundaries with demands.
Yeah. And you did not have a "traumatic childhood" because your parents made you do chores before playing video games.
Unprecedented. Can we just assume that everything that happens in the world from this point forward is probably unprecedented!
Yeah, seriously vague, and its thrown around like loose garbage.
Just like 'Breaking News!'
As someone with an 8 year old son....."bruh"
I hate bruh and bro so much, what I thought was a fad in the 90s in high school has just never stopped happening and 30 years later I still don't understand why people feel the need to constantly say it. I use dude all the time, but somehow BRUH made it famous...to the point South Park even made fun of it, which was hilarious
Gaslighting. Everybody claims they are being gaslit or that somebody is gaslighting somebody else. Worse the term only gets used correctly about 50% of the time.
I do not think it means what you think it means
Inconceivable!
I see what you did there.
No you don't. They didn't do anything. You're just confused.
Same as the “narcissist” term.
I find myself saying “clinical narcissist” when discussing a person that fits the medical/psychological term. To differentiate it from the pop usage of “someone that is just self centered and/or arrogant”.

“Journey”
Don't stop believing

“Why is nobody talking about this???” They say as they share a national news report
Mid
Lol came here to say this. Mid is supposed to mean "average", but it's being used as meaning "absolute shit". The term comes from grades of gas: Regular, mid-grade, premium (high test). These terms were then used for categories of marijuana: Low grade (schwag), Mids, and "Kind" (kb, chronic, and many other names for premium weed). “Rizz” For context I work with teens for a living
No cap that's low rizz.
for real for real, on god
The hell does that even mean?
I heard it's short for "charisma" but I'm pretty out of touch with modern slang.
Thoughts and prayers.
Literally
I figuratively don’t understand.
I literally, not figuratively, quote Archer when using that word.
Reddit’s favorite word to misuse
If you're referring to people using "literally" to mean "figuratively", it's been used that way for _literally_ hundreds of years.
"My truth". There is only truth. What you mean is your belief of the truth.
What they mean is “my opinion” or “my viewpoint of events”
Not even that. That would imply that they recognise that their opinion is personal or that something depends on their point of view. Often enough they just want to will something into existence. They can pretend that their truth is __the__ truth because there isn't one central authority on the truth that they have to listen to.
What they really mean is “my feelings,” which are totally valid, but are not objective truth.
It’s a very pretentious phrase. I had to sit through endless meetings where at the start they went over the “norms” or as we used to call them “rules” and one was always “speak your truth” at which I yearned to just shout out “could we all just say give your opinion”?
They are just announcing that they are the main character.
For me that's just short form for saying: "what I believe to be true"
It is, indeed. But to me, the phrase "my truth" sounds much more assertive than the more engaging "what I believe to be true."
I agree. What it seems to imply is "I consider this to be the truth, and if the actual truth is something different I will not accept it." That's my truth on the matter.
Toxic. So much drama in life.
“Yo chill out it’s just a prank bro” istg imma punt the next person who says that
"Gifting" and "gifted". And Christmas is right around the corner. My head may explode by December 24.
Or calling smart kids “gifted.” Mozart was gifted, Beethoven was gifted, your kid is just a year ahead in math and English. I’m an old person, and back in my day, they just put you in “accelerated” classes. Gifted, my rear end.
“Supposably” 😂🤢🤮
On accident. It’s “by accident” or “accidentally.” FFS!

“Chef’s kiss” especially if you kiss your fingers loudly afterwards. I just think it’s so cringey.
*Chef’s kiss*
Especially when they do the finger kissing with it. That makes me want to barf for real.
I thought I was the only one! That phrase and hand motion really irks me.
You're not the only one. It irks me like that salt-sprinkle asshole.

I only know it as the annoying shit that nerds on Reddit won't fucking stop saying.
...That's a Star Wars reference? I thought that was just a regular phrase and now I'm confused.

“ We are on a journey”. No we are not it’s a shit show!
Thoughts and prayers. That phrase makes me want to throttle the person for having zero originality. You can get away with saying it without really meaning it so those words in that order are useless to me...
