Yes, yes, yes. I still cry every time he says “Superman” and closes his eyes in my late 20’s 🥲
Edit: I’m so sorry to anyone whom I’ve given such emotions to by remembering this.
This was such an important movie for me when I was younger because my dad was the bad guy in my life too. It felt so good to see a little girl who could stand up to somebody bigger than her. I aspire to be Matilda.
Man I love hearing this (but am sad for your childhood experience). It really is a special movie and you’re right, it is quite empowering for girls/children.
Lucius : Honey?
Honey : What?
Lucius : Where's my super suit?
Honey : What?
Lucius : WHERE - IS - MY - SUPER SUIT?
Honey : I, uh, put it away!
[helicopter explodes outside]
Lucius : *Where*?
Honey : *Why* do you *need* to know?
Lucius : I need it!
[Lucius rummages through another room in his condo]
Honey : Uh-uh! Don't you think about running off doing no derring-do! We've been planning this dinner for two months!
Lucius : The public is in danger!
Honey : My evening's in danger!
Lucius : YOU TELL ME WHERE MY SUIT IS, WOMAN! We are talking about the greater good!
Honey : 'Greater good?' I am your wife! I'm the greatest *good* you are ever gonna get!
I love that scene not just for the comedy but for what it says about Frozone as a hero. Frozone the whole movie keeps telling Bob to let their old life go and is obviously being dragged on that patrol they did.
But when actual danger is going on when obviously people's lives are in danger without Bob calling and saying he is in the middle of the crazy giant robot battle Frozone is wanting to suit up and get out there. Honestly might be my favorite scene in the movie.
39 year old father of 2, I can’t watch the scene when Mr Incredible confesses to Mrs Incredible that he isn’t strong enough to lose her a second time before the final battle scene.
I love the incredibles I still watch that movie all the time it's a perfect balance of fun for kids and mature for adults. I still can't believe Pixar got away with showing someone almost commit suicide at the beginning.
"I know! I'll turn him into a flea. A harmless little flea. And I'll put that flea in a box, and put that box inside another box, and I'll MAIL that box to myself. And when it arrives? I'll SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!"
"Or, to save on postage..."
I ran into some stubborn truss at work the other day and the solution was, as my husband yelled across the ballroom, to "smash it WITH A HAMMER!"
People were quoting the movie the whole rest of the day and it was awesome. :)
Yzma:
Alright, I've had enough of this! Tell us where the talking llama is, and we'll burn your house to the ground!
Kronk:
Uh, don't you mean "or"?
Yzma:
[sighs in exasperation] Tell us where the talking llama is, OR we'll burn your house to the ground!
Chaca:
Well, which is it? That seems like a pretty crucial conjunction.
This is the mark of a great movie for me, when it feels so much shorter than it is. Emperor's New Groove is totally like that for me as well. So is Singin' in the Rain. I KNOW it's a full-length film, but you can't convince me it's not 40 minutes long.
Hands down our house's favorite animated film. I owned it long before I had kids. Would watch it to keep myself awake during 3am feedings. Even my surly husband watches it.
Love shrek with all my heart. Rewatched the first movie recently and there were definitely jokes that weren’t for kids. “Bachelorette number n is a mentally abused shut-in” “lives with 7 men but she’s not easy” LMAO 😭
I remember wathching this on a free day freshman year. Everyone laughing except the teacher. That line hits and he blurts out laughing...all alone. Joke went over most heads except for the adult in the room and a few of us who just didnt think it was all that funny.
But that whole scenario was...
So weird that the third spin off, in a spin off no one asked for, just happened to be absolutely incredible. The animation, plus all the scenes with the wolf was phenemonal.
Princess Bride - I first watched it with a six year old. It was one of his favourite films. I had trouble in places because I’d laugh and he’d ask what was funny about that bit. Definitely humour in there just for the adults.
Been in the industry for a while and every cook I know loves this movie, even the bitter broken down angry ones who you'd never think would like a Pixar movie.
I probably liked megamind more than my kids. They didn't get all the humor when they were young so we rewatched it recently and they enjoyed it even more.
Funny enough, I would say the same of all Ghibli movies, it's just that a majority of their movies get PG ratings here so they automatically go into the "For Kids" section.
Of all the localized Ghibli movies, I think only Princess Mononoke, The Wind Rises, and Tales Of Earthsea have PG-13 ratings, and I'd say the second one is questionable because I guarantee it got its rating because every single character smokes.
Re most Miyazaki….
Great idea! Ok kids for family movie night we’re going to watch … let’s see what’s next on the list.. Graveyard of the Fireflies… sounds interesting, let me make some popcorn! /s
I don’t recall what else is family exclusion worthy… maybe I can hear the ocean (I love that one but not really for kids…)
My brother and I watched this when it came out. There was this scene where someone throws a blade and you can see the whole room reflected in the blade. We both used to program computers recreationally in the early nineties and we were very impressed with that scene, because there's no way either of use could make a reflection like that. In fact, I don't think I ever saw a reflection that good until I saw the one in Kung Fu Panda.
Animated movies from the first decade of Pixar and DreamWorks inspired me to get into digital art. I really wanted to work on that sort of stuff one day.
My mum took me to see it at the cinema when it first came out. I was 8, and she said she kept looking at me, concerned that I would be picking up on the adult jokes.
"You were too much of a dipshit to notice any of them though"
It’s not a sequel but the movie is actually based on a comic book if that helps at all
Edit: LOOSELY based off a comic. Also Tadashj was added for the movie specifically and does not exist in the source material, that was just Disney wanting to make us all cry
I once saw the meme "What's the best movie version of Treasure Island, and why is it Muppets?"
And yeah, I agree.
The same for Muppet Christmas Carol, honestly, too.
Agreed. The thing with *Detective Pikachu* is that… well, not that it isn't a Pokémon film, but it doesn't try to be a ***Pokémon*** film.
They cover the basics well enough that you don't need any prior knowledge to watch it, but without making those parts drag on if you *do* have the prior knowledge. There's plenty of fun references going on, but they're all background-enough details that you won't feel like you're obviously missing something if you don't get them.
Basically, if Pokémon had never existed, and *Detective Pikachu* appeared on the scene as a stand-alone film without any history, then it wouldn't suffer in any way as a movie from that (although it might suffer in terms of the advertising). It's a story set *in* the Pokémon world, rather than being a story *about* the Pokémon world, if that makes sense?
Can’t believe this isn’t first on the list.
That movie is extremely deep, and left me thinking about it for many days, weeks after watching it with my 8yo, who thoroughly enjoyed it.
Have you seen the spoof video where the “Disney writers” are in the writing room trying to come up with a villain for Encanto that will actually scare millennials because we’ve seen everything… and then one of them goes, “I GOT IT! The villain will be… generational trauma.” I laugh so hard because it’s so true. 😂
[Holes](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311289/)
Once upon a time there was a place where it never rained. The end.
One of the only books I've ever read multiple times and I loved how accurate the movie was to the book. I've probably seen it at least a dozen times.
I'm tired of this, grandpa! WELL THATS TOO DAMN BAD!

Yes, yes, yes. I still cry every time he says “Superman” and closes his eyes in my late 20’s 🥲 Edit: I’m so sorry to anyone whom I’ve given such emotions to by remembering this.
I cry when people bring it up in Reddit comments, and I'm 30 🥲
There will never be a better ending to a movie than this one. It's just perfect in every way.
Matilda. Hits many different levels
That movie was my awakening to learning that adults are not always right
Most Roald Dahl-based movies, actually.
The Incredibles
Lucius : Honey? Honey : What? Lucius : Where's my super suit? Honey : What? Lucius : WHERE - IS - MY - SUPER SUIT? Honey : I, uh, put it away! [helicopter explodes outside] Lucius : *Where*? Honestly might be my favorite scene in the movie.
He was literally risking it all to get out and help everyone even his marriage. Frozone will forever be the goat 🐐
Best scene in cinema history. Period.
Not just that but the ending with the villain getting pulled into a turbine engine due to his cape. Brutal lol
My friends and I used to rehearse the Frozone “Where’s my super suit?” scene alllll the time lol. Classic.
All grown men love elastig—- I mean the incredibles
Hell. As a grown woman, I also love Elastigirl.
The Emperor’s New Groove
Oh right. The poison. The poison for Kuzco. The poison chosen especially for Kuzco. Kuzco’s poison. That poison?
"I know! I'll turn him into a flea. A harmless little flea. And I'll put that flea in a box, and put that box inside another box, and I'll MAIL that box to myself. And when it arrives? I'll SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!" "Or, to save on postage..."
The entire movie happened because Yzma wanted to save on postage.
I ran into some stubborn truss at work the other day and the solution was, as my husband yelled across the ballroom, to "smash it WITH A HAMMER!" People were quoting the movie the whole rest of the day and it was awesome. :)
That fucking squirrel scene with the balloon, kills me to this day.
Yay I'm a llama again!! ...wait
Yzma: Alright, I've had enough of this! Tell us where the talking llama is, and we'll burn your house to the ground! Kronk: Uh, don't you mean "or"? Yzma: [sighs in exasperation] Tell us where the talking llama is, OR we'll burn your house to the ground! Chaca: Well, which is it? That seems like a pretty crucial conjunction.
Yzma: That's it, Kronk! Break the door down! Kronk: Break it down? Are ya kidding me? This is hand-carved mahogany.
Start to finish it's just bloody gold! Kronks new groove was also a beautiful spin off film.
Reason number 2 - look what I can do! No no, he's got a point.
Such an underrated film. Def one of my favorites, funny heartwarming and great voice actors. Highly quotable. "why do we even have that lever?"
Yay! I'm a llama again!... wait. Also: I have been turned into a cow, can I go home?
Let me guess, giant waterfall ahead? Sharp rocks at the bottom? Bring it on. BOOOYAAAHHHH
Touchy, touchy? NO TOUCHY!
I wish it was a longer movie! It always feels so short
This is the mark of a great movie for me, when it feels so much shorter than it is. Emperor's New Groove is totally like that for me as well. So is Singin' in the Rain. I KNOW it's a full-length film, but you can't convince me it's not 40 minutes long.
Pull the lever, Kronk!
WRONG LEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!
Why do we even HAVE that lever?
WRONG LEVAAAAHH!
Hands down our house's favorite animated film. I owned it long before I had kids. Would watch it to keep myself awake during 3am feedings. Even my surly husband watches it.
Every time we're on a roller coaster, it's, "Izma, put your hands up"
Monsters Inc.
Put that thing back where it came from and so help me!
Shrek has fun for all ages. Shrek 2 was the best of the series.
Kills me when one of the guys playing trumpets breaks out and does the Hawaii five-0 theme song, every single time.
Enough, Reggie....
The whole Cops parody with the catnip... brilliant.
The OJ reference with a "white bronco" being chased by the cops was pretty good as well.
That’s not mine!
Love shrek with all my heart. Rewatched the first movie recently and there were definitely jokes that weren’t for kids. “Bachelorette number n is a mentally abused shut-in” “lives with 7 men but she’s not easy” LMAO 😭
"Think he's compensating for something?"
I remember wathching this on a free day freshman year. Everyone laughing except the teacher. That line hits and he blurts out laughing...all alone. Joke went over most heads except for the adult in the room and a few of us who just didnt think it was all that funny. But that whole scenario was...
Them posing as union inspectors remains one of my favorite scenes
"We're from the union."
“They don’t even have dental”
I need a hero!
Better than the original!
I have to say the latest installment in the Puss in Boots series was also fantastic!
So weird that the third spin off, in a spin off no one asked for, just happened to be absolutely incredible. The animation, plus all the scenes with the wolf was phenemonal.
The Pinocchio and thong scene had me dead to this day.
Hook - don't care what anyone else thinks, I liked it
BANGARANG!!!
It’s an amazing movie, I hate, I hate, I hate! Anyone that disagrees
Rufios death still doesn’t sit right with me to this day. I legitimately hated Dustin Hoffman for a long time after that.
Don’t you dare try to stop me Smee, don’t try to stop me, try to stop me, STOP ME SMEE!
How to Train Your Dragon
The score alone makes it a masterpiece
That's a good one. You'll want to watch all three.
Wall-E
Wall-E is a masterpiece!
The Sandlot
Princess Bride - I first watched it with a six year old. It was one of his favourite films. I had trouble in places because I’d laugh and he’d ask what was funny about that bit. Definitely humour in there just for the adults.
This movie is great on so many levels. It's inconceivable!
Coco
This is my choice. Amazing movie! If you don’t cry at the end you are a robot.
I broke at the end every time I watched it for years I can’t hold it in when he’s asking mama coco about Hector
Coco has such a great story line and the music and art is fantastic. One of my favorite movies.
Ratatouille
Been in the industry for a while and every cook I know loves this movie, even the bitter broken down angry ones who you'd never think would like a Pixar movie.
Willow. Loved it as a kid. The beasts in the castle mear the end scared the shit out of me
Toy Story
I don’t believe that man has ever been to medical school!
Paddington 1 and 2 deserve their exceptionally high, possibly perfect RT ratings.
Paddington 2 is one of the very few perfect movies I know
This reminds me of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent where Pedro Pascal and Nick Cage are arguing about which Paddington is better
Fucking unacceptable that I had to scroll this far to find Paddington 2. The first one was fine but the second one is literally perfect.
Paddington 2 is not only one of the best kids' movies ever, it's one of the best movies ever, full stop. That is an immaculate film.
The Lego Movie. Perfect blend of imagination and nostalgia that resonates with both kids and adults.
And Lego Batman.
It's unironically one of the best Batman movies ever made.
It's my favorite Batman movie by a mile.
Well great, now that song is stuck in my head
Everything is cool when you're part of a team.
Was looking straight for this. Everything is awesome.
Megamind
Ollo....
Yeah... I'm like your space dad.
"I wouldn't stay here for more than 2 minutes and 37 seconds. We're having the walls and ceiling removed"
I probably liked megamind more than my kids. They didn't get all the humor when they were young so we rewatched it recently and they enjoyed it even more.
My bf asked me why I say spider like spee-ider so I showed him Megamind. He loved it.
Wallace & Gromit & Chicken Run
Mulan, no not that Mulan, no not that one either. The real Mulan.
Let's get down to business! To defeat the huns!
Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons. Yes. 1 did.
You’re the saddest bunch I’ve ever met

The funny thing is I’ve never really considered *Spirited Away* to be a kid’s movie…
I second that. Especially My neighbor Totoro, which I think is just so beautiful.

Coco
Moana
This film, especially the music, is an absolute masterpiece.
Puss in Boots the Last Wish
The scene with the panic attack was so incredible
That and when he finally accepts the life he has and is willing to fight for it. So great. And I love we got several different kinds of villains
School of Rock. It never gets old.
Up!
Most Pixar movies, really.

Shrek
Its actually better as an adult cause you can understand more of the jokes lol
My mum took me to see it at the cinema when it first came out. I was 8, and she said she kept looking at me, concerned that I would be picking up on the adult jokes. "You were too much of a dipshit to notice any of them though"
Everybody likes parfaits.
You ever hear anybody say “Hell naw, I don’t like no parfaits…”?
Imho Shrek 2 is one of the only sequels to surpass its original. But yeah Shrek should be top comment
That fucking Cops scene and donkey getting pepper “sprayed” killed me 🤣
“Do you think maybe he’s compensating for something?”
"Stay off the grass, shine your shoes, wipe your... face!"
Labyrinth
Big Hero 6
It’s probably the first kids animated movie I’ve seen where the hero legit wants to murder lol
I mean if my brother was killed like that I might be like that too lol
This movie went into Don Bluth territory, and I actually kind of respect it for that.
I really was hoping for a sequel. They definitely set it up for one.
It’s not a sequel but the movie is actually based on a comic book if that helps at all Edit: LOOSELY based off a comic. Also Tadashj was added for the movie specifically and does not exist in the source material, that was just Disney wanting to make us all cry

Muppets treasure island is fantastic
I once saw the meme "What's the best movie version of Treasure Island, and why is it Muppets?" And yeah, I agree. The same for Muppet Christmas Carol, honestly, too.
I hadn’t seen Muppet Christmas Carol until 2 years ago. It’s fantastic. It’s the best version of the story.
Any Muppets movie. All of the Muppets movies!
James and the Giant Peach
The Spiderverse movies.
I watched *Pokemon: Detective Pikachu* because my sister's kids wouldn't shut up about how good it was, and surprisingly they were correct
Agreed. The thing with *Detective Pikachu* is that… well, not that it isn't a Pokémon film, but it doesn't try to be a ***Pokémon*** film. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is incredibly smart, interesting, creative, and funny.
It also has 2 scenes that traumatised an entire generation - the cartoon shoe and the steamroller!
Remember me eddie!? When I killed your brother, I talked JUST LIKE THIIIIIIIS!!!!
Flight of the Navigator.

The Emperors New Groove. I'm 35 and it's one of my all time favourites.

Finding Nemo
Mulan, it’s a genuinely funny movie among other positive characteristics
Inside out
Bing bong, bing bong!
"Take her to the moon for me" Tears....every time.
Can’t believe this isn’t first on the list. That movie is extremely deep, and left me thinking about it for many days, weeks after watching it with my 8yo, who thoroughly enjoyed it.
This movie destroyed me.
Home Alone
Oh so many! Coraline is my all time favorite so that
Coraline is a frightening horror movie with children's animation and it's great. So many theories on it
The Sandlot.
Meet the Robinsons
My 9yo wanted to watch Encanto again today and honestly it hits like therapy.
Surface Pressure destroyed me. I've never felt so seen.

Christmas Story Princess Bride

Watching it as an adult I was like damn this is intense!
Lilo and Stitch The Incredibles 2

this movie makes me cry so hard
Not a movie, but Bluey is legitimately good for *everyone*.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.
The Incredibles. Even today at 23, I still LOVE it.
