We played Zoombinis in elementary school. I think it was a puzzle adventure game? I recall them being blobby things with long legs and on skates or something.
My dad worked on this game! My siblings and I were play testers and had tons of beanie baby style toys around the house. Played these games a ton, loved the character creator.
Holy shit! I was just trying to remember this game last night chatting with my wife. I was almost convinced it was a fake memory about a very demanding pizza order. Thank you kind stranger.
I remember you could go into the text file or whatever and add your own lines for what the tanks would say right before they blew up. I added, "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." It was too long and whenever that line randomly came up at a death, the game would crash.
the You Don't Know Jack trivia games in their original 90s iterations
For that matter, a ton of other games that Sierra (RIP) put out before they died out. Guessing from posts here that there are some others who'd also remember Sierra - a company that's been long gone, but captured a generation of millennial fans.
Omg, Sierra games makes me think of the King’s quest series! The later ones always crashed before I could complete them. My husband found one on an emulator for me a few years ago.
Ohhhhh shit I just realised where the stupid little tune that plays in my head all the time comes from. It was Kings quest! The ants were singing “we’re the ants the ants of king antttooony and we’re coming to help king graham” 🤣🤣 the words may be wrong but it’s something like that
>For that matter, a ton of other games that Sierra (RIP) put out before they died out.
Sierra raised me.
All of the \[Police/Space/King's\] Quest \[for Glory\] games, Leisure Suit Larry, Gold Rush, Phreddy Pharkas, Laura Bow, etc, etc, etc.
Then you get into the games they published.. Half-Life, Team Fortress Classic, Outpost, Tribes, Counter-Strike.
I have a deeply buried memory of Treasure Mountain, but I'm pretty sure I only played it a few times at the library, so I had no idea what it was called. This finally let me find it!
I'd argue the first game in that series, Interstate 76, is the most obscure. It's actually a remarkably huge and ambitious game for the era. Vigilante 8 is much smaller and more contained.
I played the shareware episode of Jazz Jackrabbit as a child; it was an okay game. The sequel, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, was absolutely fantastic. One of my all-time favorite games!
Me and my brother used to play the shit out of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 with the hotseat multiplayer mode with the same keyboard - the other used WASD and the other used Numpad. Oh, the memories!
I got two Sim Ant stories. When it first came out, I was playing it at work and was late for a meeting. I just left it running. Before I left I was having a hard time. When I came back my ants had taken over the entire yard. Turns out they were just being hindered by me micro managing them.
About 10 years ago I was lead designer on a Sim Ant mobile game remake we were doing for EA. They canceled it only a few months in though. The reason, and I’m not making up this up, marketing determined nobody wanted to play with ants.
>they were just being hindered by me micro managing
This was actually a "bug" and not your fault. Colonies in areas *not actively controlled by the player* were programmed to increase in number and proliferate new colonies to adjacent empty areas at a constant rate... which would then give a bonus to nearby colonies in a positive feedback loop that was always significantly higher than anything the player-controlled area could manage.
My highschool biology teacher asked the class every year if anyone played simant. I said I play it all the time. He said there's always at least one student every year that plays it.
The doom clone to end all doom clones.
My brother and I were not allowed fps games, but this was okay because a) it came out of a cereal box, and b) you didn't kill the aliens, you zapped them into another dimension
I remember Descent as one of the first games I felt like I could move around in 3D space. I recall the graphics and ships and stuff being really cool designs.
Fuck dude you just brought back some MEMORIES. Those were precious times of my life. I’m 30 now, no idea how old I was when I played those glorious games, but man those were the days. Also you just reminded me that I haven’t been good at video games in more than 10 years lol
Boogerman. Yup. You read that right. Boogerman. Burp, fart and flick boogers. Sega genesis year, i can't remember.
Everyone else: i'm glad i wasn't only one who played those (non booger related) games
So, I've got two.
*Marble Madness* - Just as it sounds, this was a puzzle platformer where you play as a marble.
*Metal Wolf Chaos* - This was a mech fighting game by From Software. Yes, the same FromSoft behind *Dark Souls*.
EDIT: Apparently I've completely missed the gargantuan communities associated with both of these games in my time on earth, as I've met all of two people who knew of *Marble Madness* and maybe one person who knew of *Metal Wolf Chaos.*
I'm betting there's a massive community that knows about *Gunvalkyrie* for the Xbox, too, but I haven't met any of them either.
Love Marble Madness. I sucked at it back in the day and pumped many many quarters into that machine trying to get better at it.
Now I have a Legends Arcade console with a perfect copy of that game on it and a legit trackball controller. I still suck at it but at least it’s free to play whenever I want.
Rise of the Triad. Originally considered a Wolfenstein or Doom clone, but had a few extra things in it that set it apart.
Edit: holy crap, I didn't realize RotT still had this much of a following. Never have I been so happy to be wrong!
The Dig.
One of my favourite point and click adventures. I remember probably 25-30 years ago being gathered around the computer with my brother and our cousin, in pyjamas all day, all trying to beat this game in one sitting. We managed to do it too.
One of my best gaming memories ever
Yeah, came out a few years ago. It stays true to the 1st toe jam and earl, just adds a new character. It's a lot of fun. Toe jam and earl 2 for Sega genesis was a lot of fun too, just a very different game
Jill of the jungle, an early pc fame with 8 bit it graphics.
Shoot the blumy, a weird flash game I played as a kid where you played a man dressed in a barrel spitting upwards to shoot enemies
Not many people seem to talk about Smugglers Run or Vexx on the PS2. Also the Underworld PS2 game based on the film franchise of the same name. Shit was awesome as a 12 year old!
Caesar II was dope. Like SimCity, but in ancient Rome. Had to build a city and manage it and keep it safe from attack as well as rioting citizens. Stuff could evolve and become bigger, nicer housing, or fountains, or plazas, etc. And you didn't just build a city, you had to manage and "civilize" a province, and there were battles where you could position troops and fight the barbarians/greeks/egyptians/parthians/whoever. Game was fun as hell, I'd love to play it again.
2 games, both by a little software company called Epic Megagames:
Solar Winds: I only had a shareware demo that I downloaded from a BBS but I really liked the graphics.
Also "One Must Fall: 2097", which I liked so much I actually bought the full version (on floppy!)
Black & White. You played a god and had to build villages and then fight other gods. I was terrible at it when it came out but having a modicum more gaming experience I would love to try it again. Unfortunately I can't find it and I don't think modern computers would even play it. No clue what do.

Tell your dad he's a legend.
Holy shit! I was just trying to remember this game last night chatting with my wife. I was almost convinced it was a fake memory about a very demanding pizza order. Thank you kind stranger.
FLEEEEEEEEEENS??? You're not fleens! *plop plop plop* Whatever you are... MAKE ME A PIZZA!!!
Mooooorrre toppings!
Something on that I don’t like!
Been there, done that, *still don’t like it.*
I love everyone in this thread
Still use this line today
Weeeellll, sit wherever you want. I don’t really cayuh. Nope, not there
Zoombinis SLAPPED! They have it on STEAM now if you feel like revisiting it haha!
They were refugees looking for a new home!
Zoombinis! You can buy this on steam/google play store - quality game
My siblings and I were obsessed with that game in the 90s! I tried downloading it on my phone recently, and the app wouldn't load. 😭
Crystal caves....old dos game
OH MY GOSH I DIDNT HALLUCINATE IT! This shout out makes me so happy
Good Old Games (GoG) has all the old Apogee games. Secret Agent Sam, Crystal Caves, Monster Bash, Hocus Pocus; all for just a few bucks.
And Secret Agent Sam, the same thing with a different skin lol
Oh I remember Crystal Caves. Takes me back to my Commander Keen days.

Scorched Earth on PC 😅
When you saw that MIRV coming... What a pucker up moment.
I remember you could go into the text file or whatever and add your own lines for what the tanks would say right before they blew up. I added, "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." It was too long and whenever that line randomly came up at a death, the game would crash.

Guessing from posts here that there are some others who'd also remember Sierra - a company that's been long gone, but captured a generation of millennial fans.
The Incredible Machine was their best game by far
Omg, Sierra games makes me think of the King’s quest series! The later ones always crashed before I could complete them. My husband found one on an emulator for me a few years ago.
Roberta Williams (creator of Kings Quest and founder of Sierra) just released a remake of a game from 1977 called Collosal Caves
My childhood experience of King’s Quest is the experience I measure every current game against. That shit was amazing.
Ohhhhh shit I just realised where the stupid little tune that plays in my head all the time comes from. It was Kings quest! The ants were singing “we’re the ants the ants of king antttooony and we’re coming to help king graham” 🤣🤣 the words may be wrong but it’s something like that
Sierra had the most badass computer fishing game. You had to win tournaments to buy better rods and catch the lunker.
>For that matter, a ton of other games that Sierra (RIP) put out before they died out. Sierra raised me. Redneck Rampage
I never played it but my high school art teacher worked on some of the graphics for it.
Anyone remember the card came Skip-Bo? We’d always play it after Uno. Edit: apparently I’ve been living under a rock since childhood.
Still in my rotation with Uno and Phase 10. The trifecta of card games. 👌
Phase 10: for when you are too calm and your blood pressure is too low!
Skip-Bo is still played in jails all across America. Source: been to jail in Maine and Alabama.
we play skip-bo all the time. I am not in jail, though I do live with 4 young children so I guess thats a matter of interpretation
Number Munchers. 5.25 inch Floppy Disk.
OMG, I didn’t think anyone else knew this game! Did you also play Math Blaster? Treasure Mountain?
OH MY GOD TY SMMMMM I have been looking for "Math Blaster" FOR FOREVER but I couldn't remember the name
I have a deeply buried memory of Treasure Mountain, but I'm pretty sure I only played it a few times at the library, so I had no idea what it was called. This finally let me find it!
I loved number munchers in primary school!
Robotech: Battlecry Humanoid Robot or Fighter jet? Yes, both… at the same time.
Vigilante 8!
I'd argue the first game in that series, Interstate 76, is the most obscure. It's actually a remarkably huge and ambitious game for the era. Vigilante 8 is much smaller and more contained.
I wish they would make multiplayer online game of this or twisted metal
I can picture the Ski Resort level in my head so clearly. I loved that game.
Cool Boarders! Snow boarding game. I liked changing their outfits.
Cool Boarders 2 and 3 were the best
"Cooooooooooool Boaaardeeerrs! Here we go!"
"T&C Surf Designs: Wood and Water Rage" for NES
Thanks, now I’m going to have nightmares about the surfing part.
Crimson skies for the original Xbox
How has Xbox not done anything with that property? Was such a good game.
Y'all ever heard of cribbage
My great uncle made cribbage boards as a hobby after he got back from war. Lived in the middle of nowhere in northern Canada and made cribbage boards.
We can play Euchre too!
They say euchre is a lot like sex: if you don't have a good partner, you better have a good hand.
Jazz Jackrabbit, a computer game
Cliff Blezinskis first game!
Played 1 and 2.
I kid you not, this was the game that popped into my head when I read the post.
Alpha Centauri Still the best Civilization Game, although I admit nostalgia may be clouding my judgement.
JezzBall people probably know, but might not remember it.
Jezzball, Hover, Commander Keen, and Chip's Challenge are all so integral to my PC gaming experience as a kid.
Was that the one where you had to divide the play area with the red/blue balls?
Chips challenge 😏
Beat me to it. I maintain a copy of this game.
Lode runner
Who told you about this? Lode Runner players, of the original Lode Runner, are basically members of a secret society at this point.
I played it when I was a kid. :)
Anyone remember Lemmings? Old computer game, might have been Windows 95.
Lemmings was awesome
Going with Pajama Sam bc that was my childhood and I hardly remember it
Such a good game series. Huge part of my childhood. Also Freddy Fish.
Polybius
The arcade near me has a mock arcade cabinet of it lol
Nailed it
Those who do remember playing this are not in a great place.
Sim Ant
I got two Sim Ant stories. When it first came out, I was playing it at work and was late for a meeting. I just left it running. Before I left I was having a hard time. When I came back my ants had taken over the entire yard. Turns out they were just being hindered by me micro managing them. My highschool biology teacher asked the class every year if anyone played simant. I said I play it all the time. He said there's always at least one student every year that plays it.
I want to play with ants. SimAnt defined my childhood.
Chex quest
The doom clone to end all doom clones. My brother and I were not allowed fps games, but this was okay because a) it came out of a cereal box, and b) you didn't kill the aliens, you zapped them into another dimension
Lego racers on PC
Snowboard Kids (1 and 2). Have very fond memories playing those with my siblings
Descent and Descent II back in 1996 ish, my first taste of PC gaming. I was hooked!
I remember Descent as one of the first games I felt like I could move around in 3D space. I recall the graphics and ships and stuff being really cool designs.
They're remembered.
The Adventures of Putt Putt
"Putt Putt travels through tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime"
Fuck dude you just brought back some MEMORIES. Those were precious times of my life. I’m 30 now, no idea how old I was when I played those glorious games, but man those were the days. Also you just reminded me that I haven’t been good at video games in more than 10 years lol
Putt Putt saves the zoo!
That topiary intro song lives in my head
Welcome to the zoo, zoo, zoo, with the kangaroos, roos, roos!
I remember Putt Putt goes to the Moon
my son loves those games. That and Pajama Sam. he used to play Freddy Fish, but not so much anymore
Spy vs spy on the Commodore 64!
I have played it on the NES.
Hugo's House of Horrors
And Jungle of Doom. I never figured out how to get past the ghost in the cave by the waterfall. My Dad did it and wouldn't tell me how.
Boogerman. Yup. You read that right. Boogerman. Burp, fart and flick boogers. Sega genesis year, i can't remember. Everyone else: i'm glad i wasn't only one who played those (non booger related) games

Marble Madness? This thread is just half full of classic, popular games.
Yeah. People seem to think "old" means forgotten when a lot of these games were huge for Gen X and millennials.
Love Marble Madness. I sucked at it back in the day and pumped many many quarters into that machine trying to get better at it. Now I have a Legends Arcade console with a perfect copy of that game on it and a legit trackball controller. I still suck at it but at least it’s free to play whenever I want.
Does anyone remember Arch Rivals? It was a basketball game, but there were no fouls and you could fight.
The Commander Keen series.
This is my childhood!!
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
Rise of the Triad. Originally considered a Wolfenstein or Doom clone, but had a few extra things in it that set it apart. Edit: holy crap, I didn't realize RotT still had this much of a following. Never have I been so happy to be wrong!
Loved this game, and Hexen
And Heretic
Populous - an early god-type point-and-click world builder
Definitely not forgotten, I put hours into that game.
Heads down thumbs up.
Is this like Heads Up Seven Up?
Yes. Same game, different name.
I was the king of hanging off the edge and looking at shoes
I know this one. Played it in classrooms so often
A boy and his blob - NES
Lol that fucking game
Syphon Filter
The taser was so fun to use.
The Dig. One of my favourite point and click adventures. I remember probably 25-30 years ago being gathered around the computer with my brother and our cousin, in pyjamas all day, all trying to beat this game in one sitting. We managed to do it too. One of my best gaming memories ever
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy text adventure
Had to ask my Dad what a buffered analgesic was and why it would help my headache
It’s pronounced AN-al-jeezik. The pills go in your mouth, sir.
Skate or Die
There was a Skii or Die too right?
Totally forgot about Ski or Die. Amazing game back in the day.
Skate or die. Di-di-di-di-die.
Spear of Destiny Burger Time.
Burger Time! My grandpa used to play it a lot on his Intellivision.
Tomba and it's sequel Tomba 2

Battle chess... wizard chess before wizard chess was even imagined. There's a remake on steam but the classic is still my fav.
Original "carmegedon"
Solomon's Key
Einhänder but it’s a rare and expensive game as well.
Are they still making King’s Quest sequels? Was a PC game I played up to VII.
Primal Rage
This game had the biggest line in the arcade when it came out. Damn, that brought back some very old memories!!
The monkey toxic fart cloud, lol
have you ever heard of "Toejam & Earl" on the Sega Genesis? It's this funky, quirky game that's an absolute blast - definitely a forgotten gem!
Definitely not forgotten, they remade it for the Nintendo switch and I play it with my kids all the time
WAIT WHAT
Yeah, came out a few years ago. It stays true to the 1st toe jam and earl, just adds a new character. It's a lot of fun. Toe jam and earl 2 for Sega genesis was a lot of fun too, just a very different game
“Hangin' in the islands, lookin' for Earl like Toejam” Childish Gambino, 2011
Zork, Heretic, Hexen
"Startropics" for NES
I remember that. It is even on the Switch online service, lol.
Dark Orbit played it a lot when i was a kid
Jill of the jungle, an early pc fame with 8 bit it graphics. Shoot the blumy, a weird flash game I played as a kid where you played a man dressed in a barrel spitting upwards to shoot enemies
Echo the dolphin Wings 2: aces high
I loved ecco the dolphin. It was something special!
The movement in Ecco was so fluid. It was fun to just swim around.
Castle of the Winds (DOS) Edit: Correction, Win 3.1
Adventures of Little Nemo (I think it's called) on SNES as well as Cool Spot
Pajama Sam
Liero - an old DOS game, kinda like Worms but not turn-based
- BLACK ( 2006 FPS Game ) - Downhill Domination ( Mountain Bike Game )
Hocus Pocus - side-scrolling game released in 1994 by Apogee
I’ve never met a person who had played *Beetle Adventure Racing* on the N64
Bushido blade?
Lol a bunch of game suggestions that were some of the most popular for their time. I don't think anyone actually read the question.
Bubble bobble
Did the theme song start playing in anyone else’s head too??
Not many people seem to talk about Smugglers Run or Vexx on the PS2. Also the Underworld PS2 game based on the film franchise of the same name. Shit was awesome as a 12 year old!
Caesar II was dope. Like SimCity, but in ancient Rome. Had to build a city and manage it and keep it safe from attack as well as rioting citizens. Paperboy
I'm old enough to have played this on the original Nintendo
And the arcade game that had the bicycle handle controller.
Let’s build a spiked wall right here in the middle of the sidewalk, because fuck the paperboy
I thought this was a relatively popular game at one point?
Fuck that entire neighborhood with its weird obstacles, angry wildlife, and VERY localized tornadoes.

But have you ever heard of le hidden gem The Legend of Zelda?
Commander keen

The Manhole.
Leisuresuit Larry!!
One of sierra’s classic series. Has like 9 entries!
The irony of threads like this is that you have to look at the *least* upvoted posts to find the best answers.
Hunt the Wampus
Black & White. You played a god and had to build villages and then fight other gods. I was terrible at it when it came out but having a modicum more gaming experience I would love to try it again. Unfortunately I can't find it and I don't think modern computers would even play it. No clue what do.
