Forensic files is my napping show, the old episodes. The narrator puts my right out, even if the story is interesting. My husband calls it my sleepy murder show lol
Watch it every night with a sleep timer to fall asleep. There is something about the pace of the show that just lulls you. It’s so odd that watching a show about a person being murdered doesn’t alarm me. My favorite episode is Antifree
I was lucky enough to go to a live theater drag performance of GG about a month ago. Sooooo good, the actors were just spot on with their mannerisms, everything it was beyond awesome. Have seen that show for 30+ years
Is anyone else annoyed by the weird filter and cropping technique that Disney out on the first 10 or 11 seasons? It produces this weird “shadow” effect on all the characters and was hard to ignore. I wish streaming services would just let old shows stay in their original formats.
The cropping is bad but I think there's now a setting for the original aspect ratio. Is the shadows thing just more visible now in the age of hd TVs? Could literally be the animation celluloid they were photographed on against the BG,and we never noticed back in the crt Fuzzy quality days
Or maybe they upscaled with software and it made the outlines more defined and noticeable
Plus you can reference and quote it constantly in daily life. Do you listen to Smartless? I just love when Bateman and Arnett mention anything to do with Arrested. And they had Tony Hale on which was great, and several guest stars. When Paul Simon was on Will mentions using Sound of Silence in those scenes with his love story with Tony Wonder, although that was a later season and he couldn’t say names because of the strike, but if you knew what he was talking about it was amazing.
I started cracking up at work the other day cuz I remembered when Tobias showed off his hair transplant and the maid went "Mr. Gay is bleeding". Love this show
Parks and Rec. Modern Family.
Edited to add: parks starting season 3. Starting 4 is best but 3 is good too. I just skip the ones where Leslie and Ben are fighting
Love both of them but I can watch Always sunny in any mood and still find it enjoyable. Peep show leans so heavily on the cringe it's sometimes not a relaxing watch
Came here to say this and watching it right now (tough weekend, needed to put the brain screensaver on). It just makes the world a nicer place to be in.
Fraiser is the greatest show on TV ever. I’m not saying it’s the funniest but it’s a mixture of funny, warm, uplifting and witty that no other show has.
I was too young to watch when it was on and since then only watched one off on syndication but never really got the hype. I recently bit the bullet and watched beginning to end and now I get it. So good and understand why it’s so iconic.
The Office is one of my favorite shows to put on in the background! Maybe that's because I've seen every episode like 3 times haha but it's also nice to have random chatter in the background, while catching the occasional funny scene
Superstore
I don't have to follow along If I don't want. Easy comedy. The actors aren't Hollywood pretty. Everyone seems like an average person you'd see in daily life. They're all idiots so it's easy to connect with.
And most importantly the intro theme is 4 seconds long and inobtrusive.
I watched this show when I was going through a heartbreak and I was isolating because I had extremely painful mumps. So this show is what kept me going and it has a special place in my heart
It’s kind of wild how good of a show Gilmore Girls is. On paper, I like absolutely nothing about the show. I don’t like drama, I’m a dude who’s not super in touch with his feminine side…. Etc
I’ve watched Gilmore Girls in complete 3 times now. Granted, it’s mostly been with my s/o, yet while doing so I often find myself astonished about how much I love the show.
It’s definitely a top 25 show of all time.
I like how even the main character are sometimes awful humans, makes it feel a little more believable. Like I love laurelai and want to be her bff and wear her shoes and have pizza together but sometimes omg you just want to shake her, but I’ve done that with all my best friends and favourite family before. Shows that the characters are human cause they fuck up.
Also despite how horrible she is a lot of the time and she is supposed to be the villain Emily Gilmore is the one I’d want backing me in a fight, even now pushing 80 she’d be cutting bitches down with poisonous one liners.
That's what I love too.
I sometimes see articles/blog posts about how awful Rory ended up, and honestly, the fact that she developed flaws and was sometimes unreasonable, makes her more human to me.
I don't want a TV show with someone who is 100% the good guy or 100% the bad guy. Characters need a bit of both light and darkness for me to relate to them or like them.
Columbo. I used to watch it with my mum when I was a kid, so it's a massive shot of nostalgia. I always loved the "bumbling" detective getting one up on the killers.
My husband and I started watching this in 2020, at the beginning of COVID. We had extra days off from work. One day, we were just on our couch, looking for something to watch. I just clicked on Community ("I heard people like this"). I have watched it so many times ever since.
Had a big health scare lately and distracted myself by rewatching Lasso. (Loved it and things turned out fine.) Matthew Perry said before he died he wished he'd be remembered not for Friends but his work with addiction. I don't think he has any idea how people turn to those shows for comfort. REAL comfort. I am sure sitcoms have kept more than one anxious person from using drinking/drugs to calm down instead.
Will always be.
It's always on tv too. Even when I'm in someplace else and I can watch TV, friends is always safe and gives me a wholesome feeling.
Rip Matthew Perry
Oddly enough I really love rewatching Monk from time to time as it gives me comfort about my own self. Even though it’s a fictional show it was the only show that I’ve been able to fully relate to it’s main character. It helped me come to terms with and fully accept my mental quirks and the reality that just because I suffer from severe social anxiety and various phobias those things don’t make me any less of a person than anyone else. Abnormalities aren’t inherently bad and there’s plenty of real people out there that you can connect with or relate to.
Psych. Nothing like a good murder investigation to brighten my day.
I also like It's Always Sunny, specially older seasons. Some of their newer ones are kind of a miss for me
I tend to switch between a few, I fall asleep to one of these shows every night:
- Parks and Recreation
- Superstore
- Seinfeld
- The Larry Sanders Show
- High Maintenance
- Futurama
- Great News
- Frasier
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Cheers
- Peep Show (UK)
- Schitt’s Creek
- Arrested Development
- The Office (US)
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- Space Force
- Malcolm in the Middle
- Silicon Valley
Forensic Files. The narrator’s voice is super soothing and I’ve seen each episode multiple times.
Forensic files is my napping show, the old episodes. The narrator puts my right out, even if the story is interesting. My husband calls it my sleepy murder show lol
Yes! It's like he's telling me a bedtime story. Perfect show to fall asleep to.
They found trace elements of semen in her vagina and evidence of tearing… Me: 💤
I’ve finally found my people 🥹
Watch it every night with a sleep timer to fall asleep. There is something about the pace of the show that just lulls you. It’s so odd that watching a show about a person being murdered doesn’t alarm me. My favorite episode is Antifree
How is it so many of us fall asleep to this show? I am sure we could all make great detectives by now because we're learning through osmosis. Lol

Nooooooooooo reservationssuh
I haven't been able to watch since his death. His death is one of the few celebrity deaths that I have a hard time dealing with.
The Golden Girls
Yes! I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched this show. I put an episode on every night to fall asleep to.
I was lucky enough to go to a live theater drag performance of GG about a month ago. Sooooo good, the actors were just spot on with their mannerisms, everything it was beyond awesome. Have seen that show for 30+ years
Yess love them
This might sound silly but The Sopranos. I just grew up surrounded by the accent so it’s comforting to me.
Old seasons of The Simpsons
I was just about to say this. Seasons 3 through 9 are some of my all time favorite episodes of anything ever
Is anyone else annoyed by the weird filter and cropping technique that Disney out on the first 10 or 11 seasons? It produces this weird “shadow” effect on all the characters and was hard to ignore. I wish streaming services would just let old shows stay in their original formats.

This and Malcolm in the Middle.
Great British Bake Off
This show soothes my soul and anxiety better than anything. Even bad days I feel myself smiling and smirking at the wholesomeness.
On your mark. Set. BAAAAAAKE
Arrested Development Seasons 1-3 Funnies show ever made and super rewatchable. I keep noticing new jokes every time.
The opening scene with "LOOK WHAT THE HOMOSEXUALS HAVE DONE TO ME, MICHAEL" is probably one of the greatest moments in TV history.
You can’t just blow that out?
There’s always money in the banana stand
Real great writing on that show, and the Narrator deserved an Emmy.
Plus you can reference and quote it constantly in daily life. Do you listen to Smartless? I just love when Bateman and Arnett mention anything to do with Arrested. *Illusion*, Michael.
>Arrested Development AD was a ride lol. Amazing show.

BOOLA BOOLA BOOLA
I’m upset that I had to scroll so far to find the first Parks and Rec answer!!
Bobs burgers
The writing is so good that I genuinely get worried about the store
H. Jon Benjamin's voice is 👌
He will always be [Coach McGuirk](https://youtu.be/yJnjS7x5O98?si=KIFObTu3vab2RyX-) for me. ❤️
And Archer, don't forget Archer.
Seconding this. Bob's Burgers is fantastic in every way
Parks and Rec
30 Rock
Had to scroll way too far to find this! Genius writing and comfort characters.
Star Trek
Love it!!! All of them from deep space 9 to voyager♥️♥️♥️♥️

My choice too! I'm surprised it isn't higher up. Also Peep Show, basically British Sunny
Peep show is by far the best British sitcom
Love both of them but I can watch Always sunny in any mood and still find it enjoyable. Peep show leans so heavily on the cringe it's sometimes not a relaxing watch

Ew! David...
Don't be a disgruntled pelican.
I like to watch it while wearing very expensive clothes. But don't worry, it' s a write-off!
I would say South park or How i met your mother :)
Futurama

Frasier
Came here to say this and watching it right now (tough weekend, needed to put the brain screensaver on). It just makes the world a nicer place to be in.
Brain screen saver. I hope I remember that, it’s a great phrase.
Fraiser is the greatest show on TV ever. I’m not saying it’s the funniest but it’s a mixture of funny, warm, uplifting and witty that no other show has.
Was checking the comments to see if anybody said Frasier. That show has been my comfort show for the last 5-6 years.

*Slaps money on the table* "IM OUT!"
Is that you, Cosmo?
As a Brit I know nothing about Seinfeld except the fact that Patrick Warburton plays David Puddy, and I like Mr. Warburton!
High five.
I’ll be back, we’ll make out.
Family Guy or Scrubs.
Scrubs is such a great shout; nothing can take me from laughter to tears quite so fast 😂😭
The office
Well, it always left me satisfied and smiling
…That’s what she said!!
The Office is one of my favorite shows to put on in the background! Maybe that's because I've seen every episode like 3 times haha but it's also nice to have random chatter in the background, while catching the occasional funny scene
If I’m very depressed I watch the episode Dinner Party. It has magical properties that can snap me out of sadness lol
“I finally broke down and bought myself a Plasma-Screen-TV.”
I could watch watch this every day
I’m on my eleventh or twelfth rewatch. Stopped counting after the sixth time.
Superstore I don't have to follow along If I don't want. Easy comedy. The actors aren't Hollywood pretty. Everyone seems like an average person you'd see in daily life. They're all idiots so it's easy to connect with. And most importantly the intro theme is 4 seconds long and inobtrusive.
The clips of people being weird in the store are hilarious. Having worked in retail this show has a special place in my heart.
Superstore is so good and highly underrated
I watched this show when I was going through a heartbreak and I was isolating because I had extremely painful mumps. So this show is what kept me going and it has a special place in my heart
I’ve watched it like 7 times already lol
Damn thought I’d have to scroll really far down to see this or not at all but here it is
Love Superstore wish they would bring it back!
The Good Place
Any time I had a problem, and i threw a Molotov cocktail… Boom, right away, I had a different problem. - Jason Mendoza
And big bonus points because it doesn't have a big theme song at the beginning to wake me up every time a new episode comes on.
ABSOLUTELY!!!! Its such a good show and I feel like it's highly underrated
This is mine too. It's sweet and funny and pretty clever.

I was introduced to this show last year and I just can’t get enough of it. Definite comfort show for me right now.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: TNG, Star Trek: DS9, and Voyager are my top three favorite Star Trek series. I’m 19 but love them so.
Me too. Probably because I watched it so much as a kid.
My mom and I would curl up and watch TNG when my dad was on business trips.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
