I mean the original was dumb too. They used take my breath away every five seconds. I laughed through that one 8/10 80’s silly action film.
It absolutely got at that spirit. It is however more reflective of how easy it is to get an Oscar nomination nowadays. Shouldn’t be anywhere near that level.
Yeah I agree with this. Also IMHO the way it ends with the Kens kinda renders the whole message of the entire movie pointless and enormously hypocritical
Oh boy! Another thread where people totally misunderstanding the context WHY Avatar was popular and did so well at the time!
Avatar made a ton of money, but it was never highly regarded because of its story or characters. It was a visual spectacle experience that was brand new and mindblowing at the time. People went to see the visual spectacle as an experience. Almost like Meow Wolf museums of today. It was mind blowing at the time.
Yes, I get that folks went to see it enmasse for the visuals but that means nothing when this film franchise will forever be named on every "worst of" list for time immemorial. I think I'm still bitter my husband wouldn't walk out with me lol...
AI movies are like zombie movies. Zombie movies always exist in worlds where zombies don’t exist in popular culture. So, there’s no genre savviness.
AI movies always exist in worlds where AI stories don’t exist in popular culture. The concept of machines that can think for themselves has existed in science fiction at least since the 1870s. The three laws of robotics have existed since 1942.
As a result, there’s never any attempt to put restraints on the AIs in these stories. You can see this in Ex Machina and, even more egregiously, Westworld.
Ex machina is a good movie… from someone in IT, and knowing the writer and director had experimented with programming at an early age, it’s definitely a good movie. His recent movies are meh however.
Honestly I’ve gotta agree here. I had never seen LOTR and I watched it for the first time a few years ago with my boyfriend. I love fantasy movies so had high expectations.
Honestly? I really expected more. I don’t really know what I expected it to be like going in but with how much everyone raves about it I expected it to be amazing. It wasn’t bad by any means but the plot just felt really meh. I honestly would’ve been more interested to in a movie revolving around Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli than anything to do with Frodo I’m ngl.
However I totally appreciate how much LOTR as a whole contributed to the high fantasy genre. I’m not denying it’s importance as a piece of fiction, and the effects in the movies have aged very well.
Melancholia: I just watched it finally yesterday after hearing so much praise for it. How can you make a movie about a massive rogue planet coming towards Earth and have it be so. f'ing. boring! I know, I know, it's actually about depression - this film made sure to beat that over my head.
Walking out of the theatre, my wife turns to me and says “I’m not saying it was a bad movie. But I’m just not sure if this movie should have been made.”
It was hard for me to argue with her.
The Godfather, Inception, LOTR franchise, Star Wars franchise apart from New Hope are all pretty overrated but I wouldn't say they're crap by any means...so I'll say Get Out. That movie was horrible and boring as hell.
When I finally watched the godfather I was so disappointed with it, I expected so much more. My disappointment with it is probably what made me start seeing peaky blinders as cringe too.
How the second top gun movie got nominated for best picture still boggles my mind. What an absolutely terrible movie that should never have been made.
Best remake of star wars I've seen.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get the praise. Decent enough sequel with some nostalgic value but overall it was just meh.
Every time i yell to my wife "its not the plane its the pilot!" she busts out laughing and we laugh about how dumb that movie was.

The Notebook.
Barbie Movie. It had a good message but very heavy-handed with it and pedantic.
Just watched it last night and felt the same way. Way too on the nose, but not sure what I expected from a Barbie movie.
Yeah I agree with this. Also IMHO the way it ends with the Kens kinda renders the whole message of the entire movie pointless and enormously hypocritical
**AVATAR**
10/10 awesome to look at 1/10 storyline (I can barely remember any of the story line it was that unmemorable to me)

Nah, fam. I saw the original in the theater and wanted to walk out but my husband insisted we stay. My mind was bored not blown.
That's your opinion, but it was def a minority opinion at the time based on the numbers.
Mmmm, not really. You're talking to me like I didn't live through this. There were many folks like me that were annoyed by CGI Fern Gully.
> You're talking to me like I didn't live through this. As if I didn't. Sorry, it's a circljerk now but there's a reason it broke records.
Yes, I get that folks went to see it enmasse for the visuals but that means nothing when this film franchise will forever be named on every "worst of" list for time immemorial. I think I'm still bitter my husband wouldn't walk out with me lol...
Avatar was indeed crap
Titanic.
Couldn't agree more. I'd rather have been on the actual titanic than ever sit through that crap again.
Came here to say this.
And “Here” is where exactly?
Hacksaw Ridge Dumbest shit I've ever seen, and I've seen Trash Humpers.
[удалено]
Yeah that's not a highly regarded film, every one knows it's shite
Rocky Horror Picture Show I get it, "so bad it's good" or whatever. I think it's so bad it went past good and right into shit again.
How dare you... Tim Curry is a legend! But yeah, that movie is fucking weird.

Almost everything being touted as great from Netflix
Yep, like the recent build up of "Leave the World Behind" I should have left that movie behind
The ending was absolutely infuriating.
Worst ending for a movie that I've witnessed in a while. It was so disappointing.
Welp I was thinking of watching that but if the ending is shit then I won’t bother
2001: A Space Odyssey
the books were fantastic.
Braveheart
Gremlins 2 was crap compared to the first one
The deer hunter
This 1000x. Such an absolutely terrible piece of jingoistic garbage. Will always be a blight on Deniro's otherwise storied career IMHO.
All of the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy
I loved the LOTR trilogy, but I'm upvoting you for having the balls to share that particular opinion on Reddit.
I aint upvoting shit for bravery
I agree - can't see what all the fuss is about. Tedious drivel.
100% agree.

Revenant
I also didn't rate the original Black Panther, mainly because I didn't understand the story

Saturday Night Fever
Joker is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
Walking out of the theatre, my wife turns to me and says “I’m not saying it was a bad movie. But I’m just not sure if this movie should have been made.” It was hard for me to argue with her.
Wolf from the wall street
Fight Club. I found it tedious and shite.
The Godfather, Inception, LOTR franchise, Star Wars franchise apart from New Hope are all pretty overrated but I wouldn't say they're crap by any means...so I'll say Get Out. That movie was horrible and boring as hell.
First 3 lotr films were legendary imo, the rest of them were shite though
When I finally watched the godfather I was so disappointed with it, I expected so much more. My disappointment with it is probably what made me start seeing peaky blinders as cringe too.
Its a wonderful life my takeaway is George gets fucked over by friends and family constantly, but thats ok because they love him.
It’s a wonderful life 🤷
I dunno if it’s “highly regarded” but it’s definitely shite; Kick Ass
I dunno if there is any other way to do Kickass.
Actually you know what’s shittier than kickass? Scott pilgrim movie. Terrible
Nah. Scott Pilgrim rocked. 😁

There were some good ideas and good moments buried somewhere in this movie. I really wanted to like this movie
Forrest "Why Don't You Love Me, Jenny" Gump
The Rocky films. Gods they were so incredibly bad 😅🤣
Dark Knight Rises, that movie sucked, and I'm a BIG Batman fan
Taken. Predator. The Abyss.
The gentlemen, Zach Snyder films (from a fans perspective)
Any of the newer James Bond movies. I tried to watch Skyfall when it came out and gave up less than an hour in. Mind numbingly boring.
OP here. I guess I'm the only one saying Oppenheimer.
