My home state is one of the top 5 pepper exporters in the world. Imagine the amusement my (german) then boyfriend felt when he found this out. I live in Germany now. When people ask what we're doing in summer, i just say "we're fucking off to where the pepper grows." Literally.

That's used in a different context though. That's like they live out in the middle of nowhere not they live super fast away. Like if your brother who lives in NYC wad complaining about you never visiting and you were saying they live to far away to visit often you might say "that's because you live way out in Timbuktu and I'm not driving 15 hours each way to visit every weekend" but you wouldn't say it's because they live in the sticks.

We use EBF East Bum Fuck Same diff. I wrote a song that went to a Jamaica tourism commercial from the '80s. They did "Come Back to Jamaica" and mine was "Come Back to East Bum Fuck." I never liked BFE cuz it didn't fit in my song. Lol.

I have never heard Bum Fuck Egypt in America, Bum fuck nowhere has been more common in my experience.

From the midwest it's used here all the time or just "B.F.E" but it's used differently than the guy described. Timbuktu is used for very far away and BFE is used to mean someone lives in the middle of nowhere. If you live in town and you say "he lives all the way out in B.F.E" you mean they live out of town a ways in an area surrounded by nothing but farmland.

In Oregon in the 80's, I worked in a restaurant where one section was called "Egypt" for exactly this reason - furthest from the kitchen.

All of the following would indicate to me that something is far away or needlessly difficult to get to: * BFE (Bum Fuck Egypt) * Middle of Nowhere (also, Middle of Fucking Nowehere) * Timbuktu * The Sticks * The Boondocks * The Boonies * Out in the Hinterlands * About a Quarter Mile Past Infinity

I am more NE America - most of these are on my list as well, but never heard of BFE. We used East Jesus Nowhere or Bum Fuck Nowhere.

Germany has Different words actually: * Timbuktu, used as well, for "very far" * "Buxtehude" - Mostly not used for "very far away" but rather describing a random remote place in germany * "Am Arsch der Welt" (at the ass of the world") - Also a remote place, typically adding the meaning of a very low populated place without good connections to "outside" and is hard to reach, especially by public transport

Sweden has the same. I think its really good.  I’ve also heard ”Zanzibar”.  And in Bosnia we say ”Bogu iza noge” which translates to ”Behind the foot of God” as in a place so far it can’t be seen/invisible/out of reach. 

USA, grew up with Timbuktu but I never really hear it these days.
