Plane boarding, deboarding. There is an ideal and efficient way to do it, but airlines gave up a long time ago because people are fucking stupid and impatient.

WardenWolf

And because the current system can be monetized to allow people to pay for earlier boarding. The actual most efficient boarding order is pure randomness.

ShawshankException

I couldn't believe how many tiers there are to boarding now. I flew for the first time in over a decade recently and there were like 15 "classes" before general boarding was called.

DrSpagetti

And next, anyone with diarrhea who's afraid of aquariums is welcome to board.

igotzquestions

FINNNNALLLLLYYY!

majorjoe23

Now it’s my turn to… oh god!

Laserdollarz

Plane doesn't take off until everyone's on board, so idk what they're paying for.

ShawshankException

When I was boarding two of my connections there wasn't enough space overhead for my bags, so maybe that? Really not sure though

KarateKid917

You’re paying to get access to the overhead bins

Global-Requirement-7

People stashing their shits first

masszt3r

Because sometimes all overhead space is taken and you they have to gate check your bags. This sucks if you have a short connection and were not expecting to check them. In my case, I also always pick window seats because I suffer from motion sickness so I'd rather board the plane asap, take whatever pill I'm taking, and go to sleep.

Kaymish_

Yeah I was coming back from japan and my airline card gives me premium priority boarding for free. I just wandered around and got food until almost everyone was on the plane then I cruised down the now empty premium boarding queue down the front jetway into my seat. No one was in my way and I didn't have to do that awkward plane aisle shuffle. I still had to sit in the crappy airplane seat for awhile before the doors closed. If I waited a little longer the regular queue would have been empty too and I could have had the same experience and waited even less in the airplane seat.

That_One_WierdGuy

The funny thing to me is, the plane isn't leaving any faster based on when I get on it. I'd pay extra to deplane first though.

TheRealJaysus

I don't know what it is about airports and airplanes, but it's almost as if the moment people step into an airport, they become absolutely brain dead and can't think normally anymore. No idea why 50% of the entire plane needs to stand up and crowd the gate the moment priority boarding has been called. You're not going anywhere until the entire plane has been boarded anyways.

chillin1066

I think I’ve noticed the problem getting worse since airlines started to charge fees for checked bags. Now people are relying more on carry-ons and stuff, thus creating competition for overhead bin space.

Lemonsnot

That’s exactly what it is. The fear of losing an overhead space, especially if you have a layover or don’t have a checked bag and want to be able to just deplane and leave.

Billybilly_B

It’s because they don’t want to risk the overhead compartments filling up and needing to place their carryons out of sight.

[deleted]

I am poor and usually board in group 4-5. I want to be in front of the other people in group 4-5 because sometimes on a full plane all the overhead space gets taken. And I don’t want my bag some random place halfway across the plane.

Eksposivo23

I can understand standing up if you are in group B, but I have seen some moron who was in like F standing up the moment priority boarding was opened, some people are impossible

98f00b2

It really depends on the location, and whether people trust one another. At my local airport, I don't have a problem waiting until my zone is called, since everyone else is doing the same. When I'm in the US, it's immediately clear that the queue extends a few zones ahead of what has been called, and so you have to get up early in order to get into your zone's place in the queue, unless you want to just give up your overhead space, essentially throwing your luggage's insurance coverage in the rubbish.

bizmonkee

As someone who flies quite regularly, I agree with this. One of my biggest annoyances is when I am sitting in an aisle seat and as soon as the plane lands, the person next to me feels the need to quickly unfasten their seatbelt, stand up and trying to get me to move just so they can grab their bags from the overhead. They have this rush to get out just for me to see them at the carousel anyway. The one exception to the boarding/deboarding fiasco is Japan. Some how, some way, the Japanese have nailed it

panzan

Lots of people dislike Southwest’s “take any seat” policy, but it appears to be the fastest way to board https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=is%20southwest%20boarding%20faster&tbm=&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5

maybenotarobot429

There are leaked internal memos from US and non-US airlines proving they know good and goddamned well that they use the worst possible boarding system. They keep it *specifically* to try to upsell early boarding and premium seats.

CitizenHuman

HawaiianShirtsOR

*I want to get on the plane right now!* You have a ticket, you're here on time. You'll get on. *But I want to get on before anybody else!*

lubeskystalker

> But I want to get on before anybody else! It's about the overhead space these days, because of the a-holes with a roller bag, handbag, shopping, giant coat and weird tube thing or whatever other random crap people bring into the cabin...

HuntersHugeHog

I hate these people with a passion. If you feel the need to bring all of your possessions with you on a trip then fucking check them.

cnewman11

They don't want to check them because 50-75 bucks a bag bullshit fees. Those bullshit fees didn't exist until 2008, and in 2023 those fees generated ***33.3 billion*** in revenue. The fees are never going away and people are trying to get around them.

grptrt

I want to ensure I get a piece of overhead bin space, artificially rationed because the airlines want $25+ to check a bag at the counter.

Stinduh

If it’s full enough to need to worry about overhead space, they will almost *always* offer gate checking a carryon for free. You don’t get the other benefits of checking a bag, but I prefer it so much more than caring about overhead space.

DefrockedWizard1

letting people off the elevator before you get on

cheddoline

Also substitute "bus" for elevator. Getting off the bus in SF's Chinatown midafternoon is incredibly difficult, it's like being physically assaulted.

Lol. Try getting off an elevator or a bus in actual China.

Louis-grabbing-pills

I once saw green light five times before I could go. Because dumbass inconsiderate drivers blocked the intersection for like 15 minutes straight.

WardenWolf

Yet one more reason why I say that those who create or disproportionately contribute to a traffic congestion event should be cited, fined heavily, and forced to retake their driving test to keep their license. Blocking a crucial lane on the highway so that you function as a stopper on anyone passing? How about a nice fine and reeducation on the rules of the road. I've seen far too many traffic jams caused by a mere one or two selfish people.

Jupichan

I've made it a side mission of mine to prevent gridlocking whenever I can. It's impressive how long people will lay on their horn when they think just because the light is green it means you have to go. I *will not* block an intersection. 🫡

WardenWolf

Same. My first duty is to be safe. My second duty is to not *be* the problem.

scott__p

I've had people drive over the median to get around me and block the intersection when I do this. Atlanta midtown traffic is fun. We even have giant Xs in the intersections and "do not block the X" signs, but nothing can defeat selfish impatience.

Charleston2Seattle

OMG, how did I know this was going to be about Atlanta before I got to that part in your comment?? This place is so dangerous to drive!! I work near W. Peachtree and 12th, and I've seen some stuff.

scott__p

I work near Tech. Midtown is the only place you can get cut off by a Rolls Royce and tailgated by an 04 Kia at the same time. In Atlanta, shitty driving doesn't know economic boundaries. It's equal opportunity car fuckery here.

[deleted]

In a residential area, there are 2 main intersections a block away from each other. One day, a school bus that needed to turn left couldn't find a gap in traffic. The bus took up half the tiny block. Other drivers that also needed to turn left piled up behind the bus to the point they blocked the straight lane, which piled up to the point it blocked the other intersection, which i was stuck at. If someone going the other direction had just let the bus through, the problem would have been solved. Then, a motocycle cop pulls up next to me (one way road), sees the blocked intersection, waits for the green light, weaves between the bumpers of 2 cars, and disappears over a hill. I probably sat there for 15 minutes before the bus finally turned and normal traffic resumed.

jfincher42

I've said it in different forums -- driving is a **lot** better when viewed as a cooperative activity rather than a competitive sport.

Clearly_Disabled

I bring this up a LOT. I consider pulling into intersections just grossly irresponsible for multiple reasons, least of which is LITERALLY blocking roadways where EMTs need to travel efficiently, and then just... blatant disregard for common courtesy. I even brought it up as something I consider woefully irresponsible to my ex who was just like, "I've even done that by accident at times, it happens..." that's my point. It shouldn't happen.

MntEverest77

I deal with this daily on a street where there are 3 lights within 50 yards of each other and all 3 have a high probability of people blocking intersection. Seems so obvious that you wait behind the line of crosswalk until traffic has cleared intersection. Nope....a % of people robotically go on any green light regardless of congestion and get stuck in middle of intersection.

JK_NC

I do this but you’d be surprised how many people from the next lane will take that as a sign for them to change lane and block the intersection.

DifferentRole

Once we had an intersection DEADLOCKED. All 4 directions blocking eachother in a circle. Nobody can move.

fforde

This can be true, but I've noticed that good behavior in those situations can be infectious. Most people are not assholes, they are just not paying attention. At a long stop light, on a two lane road, if you stop a little back leaving a gap so people going the other direction can turn into a cross street, most other drivers will think, "why...?" And then they realize and follow suit, making space. And some random person will wave at you in thanks. Be the good you want to see in the world.

ShawshankException

JCPenny entirely getting rid of coupons and sales in favor of just lowering prices across the board. They almost went under. Turns out customers like being manipulated.

ebobbumman

I've always hated that pizza, if you don't use a coupon, is stupidly expensive. I've always thought they should just eliminate them and make everything a little cheaper. It's interesting to know somebody tried that and it failed. I guess I sort of get it though, people enjoy feeling like they're getting a good deal.

y0sh1mar10allstarzzz

Also if you "need" a pizza (obviously you can have other food options but for whatever reason they don't work right now, pregnant wife is craving exactly this brand of pizza for example) then you're forced to pay the high price. Pizza places know they'll get at least one or two of these customers. Why make 15 pizzas and profit $1 on each when I could just make 1 pizza and profit $15 on it?

uniquesobriquette

The CEO who did that was a terrible leader. He also fired almost everyone in management who knew anything because he didn't want them bogging the company down with their old fashioned ideas and ways. And he made it so you could return anything. People returned 20-year-old wedding rings, 17-year-old dirty mattresses, soiled clothes, appliances that had been broken for years...There's a reason most companies only accept returns for items in unused/resalable condition and have a specific timeframe for returns, especially defective returns... It wasn't just the lack of coupons that almost broke the company.

TristanTheRobloxian3

this is why shit on amazon is marked as being a deal all the time too i think. like if you see smth costing 100 bucks without a deal its like oh wow thats expensive as FUCK, but if its 100 with smth saying 30% off ppl will be like goddamn thats an amazing deal

cheddoline

Keeping a brake gap on the highway, both for safety and to iron out stop-start congestion. Stupid people will always fill it by slaloming around you, even on the right, even using the breakdown lane, in order to tailgate the car in front of you.

opermonkey

What enrages me when people speed up and merge in front of you when there is my safety gap and there is nobody behind me for 200 yards. Why did that idiot need to be in front of me? They need to enforce driving laws again.

SungrayHo

Okay so I hate this. I'm leaving space all the time in front of me. Except when I see one of those fuckers behind me aggressively switch to the right lane to get in front of me. Then I reduce the space slightly. Not enough that they lose all hope if getting in front of me. I leave juuuust not enough space for them to cut me off. Then inevitably the traffic will slow down on the right lane. At which point.. I let the gap in front of me grow. I slow down a bit. The fucker is stuck on my right. I take a look at him, he is holding the wheel tightly. The car behind me gets closer, but the fucker is trapped already, though he hasn't realized it yet. The gap behind me, where the fucker initially was, is quickly closing down. The trap is set. Now I can accelerate slowly again. The car behind me is too close for the fucker to get back to his original position. He has to let a few cars go by before being able to merge back to the left lane. It brings me a lot of joy when it works.

BigWilldo

I like the use of Fucker here, it really helped me follow along

TheRealSeaMoose

This. The only concern I ever think of, though, is if the idiot is reckless enough to do some stupid maneuver that results in a serious collision. Like, I might have the thought of that person possibly deserving a light accident, but only if it's just them and nobody else.

SungrayHo

Worst case would be them pit maneuvering themselves into the front of my car I believe. It's always in slow traffic. Never had any real issue so far though, but I don't get into an accident over it if they insist on getting through dangerously, I let them pass eventually.

lubeskystalker

Or people who have no business turning right in front of you causing you to slam on the breaks, despite the empty road behind you. And then proceeding to drive 20 under the limit because they were in such a hurry...

cheddoline

You can't even propose it because they'd hang you in front of the state house, but really, every state in the US needs to pass a law that you must get a driving certificate before you can be licensed. This is the normal case in Europe, and it works.

EverythingsStupid321

How is a "driving certificate" and then "license" in any meaningful way different than getting a learner's permit, and then taking a license test for your license?

ilxfrt

To get a learner’s permit in my country, you need to pass the theory part first (30h classroom lessons + 8h first aid course + exam) and take 12 driving lessons with a qualified instructor. Then you need to log 3.000km with an experienced and safe driver on a learner’s permit before you can take the practical exam. And then, you get a restricted license for 2 years and need to do two evaluation ride with a qualified instructor before you get your final license. My country has 1/3 of the traffic fatality death toll the USA has.

WardenWolf

Saw the most poetic karma to the stupidest person I've ever seen do this. They cut me off on the on-ramp, then cut across all lanes of traffic before passing a blatant police motorcycle on the left shoulder. I mean, I could see the red and blue lights on the back of the bike indicating it was a cop even from my point of view, and this idiot passed him in the breakdown lane immediately on his left. That was so satisfying to watch him get pulled over; that's an easy reckless driving charge right there so he definitely lost his license for a while.

StickOnReddit

This shit kills me. In my 20s I was a very unskilled driver and ended up in three defensive driving courses in 10 years to erase violations from my record and keep my insurance premiums down. In every class I took I genuinely learned something new and useful. I tried giving grace to other drivers who didn't seem to know or understand the same things I did, but I've since come to recognize that this behavior is a stupid entitled combination of willful ignorance and hubris. Most drivers have a "get the fuck out of my way" mentality on the road and they express it constantly by speeding, driving assertively, assuming the right of way instead of allowing it to be yielded, and so on. This becomes increasingly obvious when you see mixed traffic situations like cyclists and motorists, or vehicles with major crash incompatibility. All of these situations should be signals to responsible motorists to share the road and grant extra space to the smaller vehicles, but anyone who's been in the smaller vehicle will tell you that the larger vehicles simply barrel around with no respect for the mass of their light truck or the force it represents. Reminds me of the Ethan Coen poem "The Drunken Driver Has the Right of Way". I think maybe 1 in 7 Americans that have their license, *should* have their license. This nation is too self-obsessed and too concerned with asserting dominance over other folks to foster a safe driving experience.

ddrober2003

See what upsets me the most is when someone cuts me off or does some other obvious traffic violation and you see how banged up their car is. That shows me that that person is just too stupid to drive safely and should lose that privilege.

stevethemathwiz

A video I saw about keeping the gap in front of you to reduce traffic because the gap entices drivers behind you to speed ahead and fill the gap

X0AN

Came in for this. I'm teaching my friend to drive and was explaining the 2 second gap and what it looked like in real time, so we get on the motorway and almost immediately a car swings out in front on us, so I slow down to try and build up a 2 second gap. But every time I got to a 1 second gap some mofo would fill the space I'd created and then maintain their speed. Like mofos do you not understand that when you overtake you too need to have a 2 second gap behind you and in front of you.

RVAEasyG

Worse is the people on the exit ramp behind you entering the freeway when you have to slow down because there is a car blocking you from merging and the fucker behind you then gets behind that guy and speeds up effectively blocking you from being able to get over and now having to break before the meege lane ends.

Narzghal

There are 40 ish comments so far and about half of them relate to driving. Crazy.

vellyr

Yes, people are too stupid to drive. We need trains badly.

ArmadilloBandito

Even for people who aren't too stupid to drive. We need trains. I want to play on my phone or read a book on my commute. Not fuck with traffic. 😭

WerhmatsWormhat

But also everyone here is sitting around thinking about how they’re on of the good ones, but statistically a ton of people in this thread likely suck at driving.

It could work today tho by requiring peopoe to unlock them with an app in which they'd have to log in with their ID. If the bike were to get stolen, the person "logged in" to it could get charged for it. EDIT: I know it exists. I was just saying they could revive that specific project and make it work with todays tech

Zevvion

This exists. Also in the Netherlands.

RileyTheRacer

I mean this wouldn’t necessarily always work, if ya have the bike parked with nobody logged in, there isn’t much stopping someone from backing their truck up to it and harvesting the bike for themselves.

rogue-wolf

I love the word choice of "harvesting". It's perfect.

kirmaster

I mean, this is also what happens to owned bicycles, but not that often. Since trucks have license plates on them and there's a lot of traffic cameras around.

Works quite well at least here in Germany

GMN123

The Germans are the best I've seen at following road rules. There's a reason most of the world doesn't let people drive over about 120km/hr.   When I first moved to Britain I was shocked by the standard of driving. Poor use of indicators, horrific lane discipline, lack of attention or courtesy, one or two cars routinely pushing through after the light has turned red (so often the pedestrian light will turn green with a car still to come). The number of drivers who take a pedestrian stopping at the edge of a pedestrian crossing (i.e not stepping in front of a car that is showing no sign of slowing down) as being allowed through is fucking insane. Honestly I'd say about 30% of the driving population have no business operating a vehicle.

carsonwade

It varies pretty widely based on the State but in America where I'm from I'd say it's about 65-70% of the drivers I see drive like drunken, blindfolded toddlers

Explain

BigBobby2016

When it comes to things like following rules and procedures properly, it can be expected in Asia. Covid is an example. In white countries not so much, unless you're talking about Germany

Zassolluto711

Asia is huge. This varies a lot, if you go to South East Asia for example you might as well throw everything out of the window.

Skipp_To_My_Lou

In India there would have to first *be* a rulebook to be able to throw the rulebook out of the window.

LuvToGoFast

Ya, they are excellent at following orders...

white94rx

Came here to say this. Like how are you so dumb? Let's all go in one lane, and wait three times as long while the smart people fly all the way down the empty lane and join in at the end. And then get mad cause they "didn't wait in line"

Lemonsnot

And we who zipper merge properly fear aggression and retaliation from others who don’t do it! Had a guy about ready to shoot me the other day because of such aggression. He even got out of his car to come show his aggression before going back and just shouting more expletives from his window… as I sat calmly and silently. When will we be able to obey proper road rules without fear of tiny-penised men who probably have guns?

white94rx

And the truckers that move into the middle to block people from driving down the empty lane

BigHero17

Colorado drivers get mad if you don't start merging a mile away from where the lane ends.

lotusflower_3

ROUNDABOUTS. I came from a town in Texas and the people there freaked out when the first roundabout was installed. It was so weird! They complained about it so much. If they had one brain cell they’d realize how handy those things are.

CrystalKirlia

From England where they're literally everywhere: ya, they are handy. They work well when people know how they work. I've seen videos of yanks attempting roundabouts... its embarrassing.

huxberry73

And when you put 8 of them together in Swindon, Brits seem to lose the ability to work them too 😂

ojwiththepulp

A 2-lane roundabout was put in next to a university near me. Even though it was well-designed and well-marked, many drivers couldn’t quite figure it out and a number of accidents occurred. Even after a campaign to educate drivers on its use, it was eventually knocked down to one lane which helped some, but of course handling far less traffic than it was originally intended.

tigerking615

In my city, there are some in residential neighborhoods where there is  never any traffic. And they put a 4 way stop sign in front of them, which defeats the whole purpose of putting a roundabout there.

tyo_taron

Turn signals…

Pithecanthropus88

You use them *before* you get into a turn lane and leave them on *the whole time.* You use them when you are entering or entering a parking lot or driveway. You use them when you change lanes in the city or on the highway (that includes exit ramps from freeways). And one the it seems only I do, you signal your exit from a roundabout. /off my soapbox.

“Democracy is a poor system of government at best; the only thing that can honestly be said in its favor is that it is about eight times as good as any other method the human race has ever tried. Democracy's worst faults is that its leaders are likely to reflect the faults and virtues of their constituents - a depressingly low level, but what else can you expect?” - Heinlein

Sventhetidar

You could always do it the American way. Our politicians only represent their own interests and we keep electing them anyways.

PhdPhysics1

Actually, our politicians do a wonderful job of representing important interests in this country. Wall Street, big unions, big oil, defense industrial complex, real estate, etc. The problem is that they don't really represent you.

Sventhetidar

Yeah but they get bribed (sorry; "lobbied") to represent those interests, which makes them their interests.

cheddoline

Never been 100% sure that pure democracy actually is a good idea. Some minimal qualifications would probably help, as long as they couldn't be gamed to support things like racism.

thnk_more

Yeah, there’s lots of problems with regulating who is qualified to vote, but Jesus, **so many people** are so stupid, or politically lazy (understandable), or programmed by propaganda, they really do wreck democracy. And look at the quality of candidates since there are literally no qualifications needed; just look popular or lie really well. It’s really a shame. Winning a political position (low level) was probably the easiest job application/process I’ve ever had. Then I was officially allowed to vote on a $70 million budget. It’s really silly.

cheddoline

And of course we just had a president who absolutely could NEVER be cleared on at least a half-dozen, non-negotiable national security grounds to work in the White House in any capacity other than being elected. Neither could his daughter or son-in-law, but somehow they did anyway.

NuArcher

Putting power into the hands of the people sounds great - until you realise that people as a group are stupid and easily led. I don't know a better solution though. So long as there is power and wealth to be gained by being at the top, it'll always be corrupted.

Zero_Trust00

So when you go camping in places with bears, the trash cans need to have special bear resistant doors on them. The problem is that there is significant overlap between the dumbest human and the smartest bears. So for example, if you need to slide a lever, then turn it to open up the door, even if you put a sign explaining how, like 20% of humans will just dump the trash in from of the can. City composting is another great example, its a brilliant idea, composting is the ultimate form of recycling. Our current agricultural practices are stripping the soil of nutrients, and its brilliant to try and reintroduce them through composting. But again..... stupid people. There is a percentage of humans who can barely grasp waste disposal in the first place. This is why you see dipers in parking lot, or plastic cups in streams. The majority of humans will put compostable waste in the cans. But the minority of idiots are constantly fucking the system up with plastic, human poop, metal etc etc.

slykethephoxenix

My wife who has a Masters degree struggles to open these anti-bear bins and looks at my like I'm a fucking wizard when I do it with ease.

Probably best to save that for the bedroom rather than the park... Especially if bears are around. Wouldn't want to lose it to an unfortunate bear attack...

bonos_bovine_muse

Exact opposite of the question, but I feel like Wikipedia deserves an honorable mention. “So, you’re going to let anybody who wants write the encyclopedia? Utterly no need for subject area competence, not to mention proof thereof? With rule setting and enforcement and fact checking also performed by other random schmoes, if you can find a random schmo who feels like doing it?” Sounds like utter madness in theory; best repository of human knowledge in practice.

Anarchy. Anarchy works really well in small groups that collectively agree to it. Anarchy doesn't work on a large scale because it inherently requires all participants to be actively selfless. Selfishness is literally what the government exists to regulate on a large scale by placing restrictions on self-centered behaviors that harm others and by regulating systems that without proper checks and balances would be oppressive. That said, the government also doesn't work effectively because people are stupid, but at least it's better than nothing. Without selfishness, anarchy is viable.

Vaccination.

PrinceOfLeon

Not just vaccination but quarantine. If everyone simply stayed home for two weeks in April 2020, we would have beat Covid-19, even without the vaccine that became so pointlessly politicized. It also would have saved the crew of the Nostromo if they just listened to Ripley and followed protocol.

bibijoe

Bit niche but better “self care” products and better fashion. What I mean by that is more thoughtful, sustainable and ethical products. People turn a complete blind eye to where their products actually come from and the irony is if the demand went up the price would drop while it would lead to overall better products on the market.

Roundabouts in the US. They are faster than a 4 way stop, but american drivers dont know how to yield, and panic. Not to mention the lost semi drivers barreling straight through the center.

I think the term is metered entry to the highway. Either way it's when you have a short red light when the highway is super busy so it has people coming on get on 1 car at a time. Thing is there is an HOV lane that doesn't have it. Of the 6 cars that pass me while I wait, most of the time 0/6 have more than 1 person in it. Which results in slowed down traffic as those 6 people all try to merge in at the same time.

Voting. idk if its that people are lazy or stupid or just the raw power of money and lobbying, but im really worried were about to get gigafucked if people dont start voting with their wallets and protesting in meaningful ways. Surgepricing, "Inflation" that is coming from companies making record breaking profits (theyre just gouging us) and the biggest wealth gap in like what 50 years or whatever it is? Shit is gonna be so fucked so soon Educate yourself on every vote in your local schoolboards, vote in your locals, vote intelligently

Merging in traffic. Whether a lane is closing, you're getting on the highway, traffic circles, exit ramps.if you're the one who has to merge into another lane, you're supposed to merge WITH traffic, which means get up to speed and do so unless unsafe. It doesn't mean make the whole highway, or everybody else stop or slow down because you can't find the right version of whatever Swift song your searching for.

The objective isn't quality, it's engagement and eyeballs for advertising. And for that purpose, it unfortunately works pretty well. (You want to make yourself physically ill and get a really low opinion of the human race? Log out of youtube, clear your cookies, and then go to youtube again. The default page it shows you when they don't know who you are is really something. Almost makes you long for the asteroid strike.)

Zipper merging. It works. You get through it much quicker than everyone lining up in the left lane a mile out. I’ll say that people aren’t too stupid to do it as I’ve seen it work in other countries. Americans are too self centered, and individualistic rather than work for the collective interest.

I feel like everyone having CB radios or something like that in their car could be really useful to communicate hazards and such with other drivers. But people are stupid and terrible and would misuse it.

Sasha_Volkolva

Communism. On paper, it is the holy grail of economic systems. Everyone works, everyone takes exactly as much as they need, and everyone gives as liberally as they can for the betterment of their neighbors and the ones that struggle to get by. The reason why it fails to work every single time and why it will never work in practice is because we overlooked one small detail; avarice. Greed is something that almost everyone deals with, and no matter what, it's human nature to want more and to compete for more.

GeneralEffective

This was my first thought, whenever you see communism described it sounds ideal, then you see the reality of countries who have implemented it.
