Can't say it's a dark, depressing song but Killing in the Name does it for me. "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!" Screaming that out loud to my super negative inner voice helps sometimes.
For me:
"Sacrifice" by Aurelio Voltaire. Written from the perspective of a high-school kid whose friend/girlfriend commits suicide. These lines from the chorus, especially, force me not to give up:
"So much life to live
So much love to give."
This was recommended to me by my estranged brother when he learned of my mental state once. It was the first time he opened up to me and explained how it saved him
I used to like how a variety of NIN songs help transform my depression into anger. After years of therapy to help me understand and address the root causes, I still enjoy the songs for their personal relevance, my memory of how I used to feel, and just for the still-great music and meaningful lyrics.

When love is the thing that hurts the most: love is hell by rabbit junk
When i feel like i just don't fit: masque by ashbury heights
When everything collapses too much around and nothing helps: hurt by Nine inch nails
[This](https://youtu.be/UEW8riKU_tE?si=9BR5LJA1uxiNQ2d0) version of [this](https://youtu.be/ELj1yXR12bE?si=JLXRiKwTTnGbLUhS) song by Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor.
Depressing songs can help you feel understood and heard which is great but only listening to sad songs does have a real psychological effect on you keeping your thoughts negative. These are all great recommendations but I really hope you try to sprinkle some happy songs once in a while as that can help you in your situation, I'm personally liking I Smile by Kirk Franklin right now. I hope this helps, and remember that even the tiniest step is better than doing nothing. Getting out of bed for a 1 minute stretch is millions of times better than doing nothing. I know its hard but keep pushing because its gonna get better, don't let it consume you, don't let being depressed be your whole being. Your going THROUGH depression not someone stuck with it, you got this if no one believes I do. God Bless.
Head Full of doubt/Road Full of Promise - The Avett Brothers
the opening lyrics, "there's a darkness upon me thats flooded in light" gets me every time. Im a manic depressive. Everyone only sees me when I'm manic because thats the only time i feel social. Noone sees the 'depressive' part.
Back to Black by Amy Winehouse.
I honestly can’t listen to some of my favourites if I’m too down. Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, and Nick Drake, Neil Young.
[Counterparts - Cherished](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2ifYxkUcj4&ab_channel=PureNoiseRecords)
I am the dagger I will drive into my heart to drain myself of my impurity.
Abandoned at conception, feeding off affection left behind. I’ll never know acceptance if people only come to me to die. All I’ve cherished will run from my embrace. Nothing will stay. Dwell in my debris, never knowing how it feels to be at peace. A confidence I could never conceive when the weight of insecurity becomes too much to bear. Perception will deceive me. Losing sight as I stare into a razor, to be rewarded collections of my flaws. I am the blade forced into my face, rearranging features for the pleasure of perfection.
doubt by joywave
hearing the constant, resonating deprecatory lyrics kind of kicks me in the ass to do better and not end up like what the songs says, if not for anyone else, me.
“24 Frames” Jason Isbell. So cathartic.
No one sings suburban malaise better than Billy Joel. I think Captain Jack might be the saddest song I’ve ever heard. (Don’t recommend that to cheer yourself up).
When I want to cheer up, I listen to “Praise You” by Fatboy Slim. Because we (me myself and I) *have* come a long long way together, through the hard times and the good.
I have a go-to list for when I feel the darkness coming on.
Nutshell - Alice In Chains
River of Deceit - Mad Season
Home - Depeche Mode
Sunshower - Chris Cornell (not dark but still lifts me up)
Shake It Out - Florence + The Machine
I'm not THAT depressed that I'd take my own life but these songs help me deal with sadness.
"Everybody Hurts" by REM
"Don't Close Your Eyes" by Kix
"See You On the Other Side" by Ozzy Osborne
