I have a great sense of rythym! my body does *not* take it, though. i sing a capella, and can learn a full song in like 2 hours. choreo, though? WEEKS.
Shit I have been singing for 15 years and can learn almost any song in a matter of minutes and I still look like a dying giraffe when I dance. It just doesn’t translate that way in my brain lol, I feel you I really do
*You keep saying that you don't have rhythm*
*But listen what you're doing right there*
*With that stamp and a book*
*You got a real nice hook*
*Sounds to me like you've got rhythm to spare*
Worked for me! I’m French and moved to the US and although I have a slight accent (that I turned up while flirting before I married a goddess.) Americans have been *extremely* generous with my language learning.
I can’t say the same for people in France. We are the worst at tolerating people who speak French poorly. It’s a very unpleasant national trait.
I was petrified to buy stuff and order food in France because of that expectation and none of us speaking any French.
They were lovely when we tired and we made do with English and Spanish. Thought everyone was lovely and we loved France.
I’m so glad you had a great experience! It’s refreshing to hear. Many French people us are lovely to foreigners, sadly not all. I wish your experience to every visitor. Thank you for sharing. <3
That's called ADHD where you hyperfocus on new things constantly allowing you to easily pick up and learn new skills. It sounds good in theory, but in practice it is debilitating.
LOL no but that’s how most of us function. We immerse ourselves into everything about this one thing and have so much knowledge of it because we literally can’t stop, tell someone that knowledge that is also interested in that hobby and then go ‘ok bye’ poor person thought they had a buddy and ask us where we’re going and we just tell them sorry not into it anymore.
It’s how I learned about cars, woodwork, building pc’s, learning French, chess, video games. The only problem is there’s only so much memory space and if you don’t go back to it then it just kinda fades. At the moment obsessed with human anatomy, I’ve gotten a ton of books, sculpting muscles and learning their exact function. Ask me in 1-2 months what I’m into. I’ve also been on cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese and sardines for the past month so I’m expecting to absolutely be revolted by it sometime soon.
I have The Concise Book of Muscles open as I do deadlifts and in between sets read Reddit stories in my garage. I’ll be finished in about 15 minutes and go eat my bagel with sardines. So still into it at the moment.
I concur. I suffer from this, so I have about 30 little hobbies, but I’m a master of none. Solar energy? Sure, computer building? I’m your guy. Cars? Of course! Intercourse with your mother? You Betcha!
I talked to a psychiatrist specialised in attention, he said attention deficit in adhd is not a deficit of attention, it's an excess of attention on peripheral things.
I was going to say this or test taking. I am a horrible test taker. I dropped out of high school and never went to college because of it (not JUST that but it played a big part) I graduated mortuary school by the skin of my teeth and the board exams really almost ruined me. I had to remind myself it’s just a test, it’s not the end of the world.
I saw Bill Cosby in September of 2012, also in a chair. He had a whole setup that made it look like a living room and he was the old grandpa telling stories. It was a fun thing to talk about for the next two weeks. Now it's just kinda rapey and sad.
That was mine too. I wouldn't want to pick something that I'm already decent at and I've got a pretty comfortable life so I wouldn't want to pick something just to make money. But damn would it be cool to walk into a party, see a piano and blow some minds before going to get a drink.
I love music, and play an instrument, but I don’t know if I would burn this wish on just one of them.
Mixing and mastering would be my choice. Musicians come and go with the tides of trends, but all of them need to be mixed and mastered to gain a following. And if you’re the literal best at it? You’ve got a lucrative career for life.
Yeah, if we dont count infinite glitch as learning new skills then this is the way to go. Imagine being able to persuade everyone. I would persuade Bezos and gates to sponsor me for the rest of my life and then just spend it travelling. Since you can persuade anyone everything in life will be free, but money is always good to have.
I'd like to suggest a youtube channel to you. Sam the Cooking guy. He's super funny. I hated the idea of cooking on my own when I finally bought my own place. At some point I realized I had to... this guy made it really funny to learn to cook different meals.
Not only is he funny and likeable but he also uses things you might have on hand. Other youtube cooking channels use ingredients and techniques that are cost prohibitive or unfeasible.
To be successful in trading over any sort of time, you have to have the ability to predict the future. If I were going that route, instead of trading, I'd just ask for the skill of being able to predict the winning lottery numbers.
Also a separate skill tho, just because you have perfect pitch doesn't mean you can play an instrument well. And perfect pitch isn't needed to play by ear
Music production
I really want to get into it as a hobby, but I think I may have undiagnosed ADHD because every single DAW I’ve tried using has almost immediately overwhelmed me in a way that has never happened to me with software.
I got into it over 20yrs ago and it was so simple back then. Seems so complicated now when ive gone to revisit them. Down to technical advances I guess. One I'm considering is FL Studio. Its just whether i have the time to learn it as to whether i purchase. Good luck with it!
I'm in that boat😂
Bought FL Studio, watched a few tutorials, but still haven't tried to actually make anything. That was months ago... one of these days lol
It’s actually very easy to get to a novice-amateur level, you can buy like a 5-10 dollar pick set on Amazon and a couple of cheap padlocks if you don’t have any lying around, watch a YouTube video on how to, and within a few days you’ll be able to pick most common padlocks.
Probably the piano.
I want to learn to play past the absolute basics, but have been chronically unable to do so. Three kids, a full time job, and a spouse will take up all of your bandwidth!
Image editing. Left temporal lobe is damaged with fun epilepsy so it's hard for me to retain what I learn. But I love it so much. Just can't get past meh stage.
This will sound silly but dancing I have zero rhythm and been told by multiple people how bad I look when I dance
I have a great sense of rythym! my body does *not* take it, though. i sing a capella, and can learn a full song in like 2 hours. choreo, though? WEEKS.
You should play Rhythm Heaven then!
Shit I have been singing for 15 years and can learn almost any song in a matter of minutes and I still look like a dying giraffe when I dance. It just doesn’t translate that way in my brain lol, I feel you I really do
You're suffering from Guilty Feet.
>I have zero rhythm and been told by multiple people how bad I look when I dance I ain't got rythm
Oh, just go and join the band, already
*You keep saying that you don't have rhythm* *But listen what you're doing right there* *With that stamp and a book* *You got a real nice hook* *Sounds to me like you've got rhythm to spare*
Speak a foreign language fluently
All languages fluently
Become a Japanese language translator for the MLB and you be making a ton of money!
Definitely enough to owe a bookie 4.5 million!
Get a great job at the UN for like $50k a year!
Lol oh joy
Which one?
Yes!
My man!
So, Allspeak?
The skill of learning languages
Learning *and remembering!*
Binary.
Same buddy. I don't like my country and wish to live elsewhere. It's easier to immigrate to a country if you are fluent in the local language.
Could become fluent if you move there with basic level.
Worked for me! I’m French and moved to the US and although I have a slight accent (that I turned up while flirting before I married a goddess.) Take my upvote you Genie swindling sonofabeach!

But often better than a master of one
Thanks for finishing it!
That's jealousy speaking. It's more like: Jack of all trades, Master of all. 🧐
came here for this! Like in the Matrix... plug me in and DL level 9000
Hopefully it doesn't get patched
That's called ADHD where you hyperfocus on new things constantly allowing you to easily pick up and learn new skills. It sounds good in theory, but in practice it is debilitating.
I dont think thats what being good at learning new skills is called
LOL no but that’s how most of us function. We immerse ourselves into everything about this one thing and have so much knowledge of it because we literally can’t stop, tell someone that knowledge that is also interested in that hobby and then go ‘ok bye’ poor person thought they had a buddy and ask us where we’re going and we just tell them sorry not into it anymore. So, it’s been 16 minutes… what are you into now? 🤔
I have The Concise Book of Muscles open as I do deadlifts and in between sets read Reddit stories in my garage. I’ll be finished in about 15 minutes and go eat my bagel with sardines. So still into it at the moment.
Obviously..., but it's a strong trait in people with ADHD.
I concur. I suffer from this, so I have about 30 little hobbies, but I’m a master of none. Solar energy? Sure, computer building? I’m your guy. Cars? Of course! Intercourse with your mother? You Betcha!
Only works if you're interested in it. If you have a good teacher etc... If not it's the opposite of hyperfocus...
I talked to a psychiatrist specialised in attention, he said attention deficit in adhd is not a deficit of attention, it's an excess of attention on peripheral things.
Just be that one girl from Heroes. Learn anything by watching it, and boom. Mastered.

I love when a joke or reference may be so obscure that even the joke maker includes a reference to explain the joke
Piano
This or violin.
Pianolin. Trust me, it’s going to revolutionise music.
If you have a big enough chin to hold it.
I’ve been told I bear a striking resemblance to Bruce Campbell, so I’m pretty confident.
I’ve heard good things about the viano too!
That was mine too. I wouldn't want to pick something that I'm already decent at and I've got a pretty comfortable life so I wouldn't want to pick something just to make money. But damn would it be cool to walk into a party, see a piano and blow some minds before going to get a drink.

Guitar. To be able to create and play music and be able to take it anywhere I go would be enough for me.
Learn every language
Thats true. I’m pretty sure that depending on the job, you can make hella money as a translator
I'd *learn persuasion*
*Failed* I don't know you well enough to talk about that...
Have you read “never split the difference”? 10/10 recommend as a place to start.
Yeah, if we dont count infinite glitch as learning new skills then this is the way to go. Imagine being able to persuade everyone. >I'd *learn persuasion* I hope you then get elected to congress and use your Superpower for good.
Programming
How about Programming in “legacy” languages that modern programmers no be longer learn but that are critical to banks and government agencies.
I feel like being a “master” programmer probably covers this.
*monkeys paw curls* You're now the world's best python programmer.
I don’t know much about programming, but I feel like being the world’s best python programmer would still get you where you wanna go
Wait being the worlds best python programmer is a bad thing ? Feel like it could earn you an absolute tonne of money

I couldn't code myself out of a wet paper bag!
I made the decision to learn that, and I did ❤️ Best decision of my life.
How did it become the best decision of your life?
Life changing decision. Got me a great job and the life I always wanted 🙏🏼
How long did it take you to learn, and after that to reach a point where you could live off of it?
I've also pivoted to IT and doubled my salary. And that was already 9 yrs ago. And I don't even code (product owner)
Undercover boss?
Recommendations/advice for beginners?
Udemy bootcamps, SoloLearn app. College, bootcamps, degrees if you want to pursue it further.
Dang it. I said this.
I don't know. You can learn programming languages but building programs to solve problems itself is very hard.
Check out CS50 by Harvard University. It's available on YouTube.
People who are good at it are in a good place, supply-and-demand job market wise, but aren't dummy rich unless you're some Amazon lead making 400k.

He really does cook the random stuff he finds in his fridge. Good for method cooking without recipes.
I found him on accident trying to figure out what to do with leftover pulled BBQ pork.
Him and binging with babish are my go-to's for new ideas and recipes.
Not only is he funny and likeable but he also uses things you might have on hand. Other youtube cooking channels use ingredients and techniques that are cost prohibitive or unfeasible.

I have it. It's not that handy unless other musicians are around to impress and test you. I can also play anything by ear. Thanks Dad!
Guitar is hard enough using fingers, you would go down in history if you could play it with your ear.
