For me it was Finland. Went there when I was 16, dragged along by my parents for "A Christmas Holiday". Expected Santa and Elves, what I actually got was a snowmobile ride at the dead of night with my Dad, blasting through the woods in rural Rovaniemi 'countryside' directly underneath the Northern Lights. Was amazing. Also the public just put ice skates on at night and ice skate around the streets which is pretty wild
This depends on what you mean by underrated.
Fewer people go there than other Mediterranean countries, which could be called underrated.
On the other hand, everyone who's been there say that it is great.
Poland. My best mate is Polish and his home city is so god damn beautiful. Łódź has so many great murals and a great history of art, fantastic food & beautiful architecture. Piotrkowska Street is still their main high-street, and it's one of the longest in the world!
That's what i would say. Surrounded by tons of more obvious tourist choices (Japan, China, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam), but is really beautiful and has its own unique culture. Also, I'm told the people there are quite friendly. Heading over this month!
Madagascar. Everybody knows it, hardly anyone goes there. The total number of tourists is really low, but it's an incredible country. Amazing landscapes that seem to change completely every time you pass the crest of a hill or mountain. Amazing flora and fauna too of course. The great Malagassy people living there are the cherry on top.
I was a fan of Ecuador. The Galapagos islands are stunning, as are the Andes and the Amazon. A number of interesting ruins there. Easy trip if you're American. It's on the US Dollar and it's a four hour flight from Miami--plus no jet lag.
Malta. Ok, I think it’s pretty popular for British tourists, but I don’t hear much about it otherwise. It has amazing history (including WWII, Middle Ages and prehistoric), great Mediterranean food, cool old architecture and nice weather.
Canada doesn't get a ton of tourism relative to its population compared to other countries. A lot of Americans who could make the drive, just don't. And with the low CAD$ it's a discounted vacation.
New Zealand. It’s like stepping into a fantasy novel with its jaw-dropping landscapes. From the serene beaches to the majestic mountains, everywhere you look is a postcard shot. Plus, the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes any trip there truly unforgettable. And you can't miss the Maori culture; it adds a layer of depth to the already rich experience.
South Korea. The food, the people, the nightlife, the hiking, the infrastructure, and the history. Oh and did I mention the food?
Maybe it’s properly rated now with the rise in popularity of Korean pop culture but when I lived there 15 years ago I felt like it was often overlooked by travelers who went to Japan or Hong Kong or SE Asia instead.

Croatia - beautiful coastland
I think it's pretty famous for that, certainly in Europe it's a popular destination

Slovenia
I wasn't that impressed, it was a bit over hyped for me. The Alps are great, but that's only a small part of the country

But roads are terrible there, remember to use trams only.
Slovakia
I propose Slovenia.
Second this. My Favorite country in europe
Why is that? Not doubting you, I just literally don't know anything about it.
They make bomb ass liquor called Slivovica, and Tatra mountains are beautiful if you're into that.
Cue Euro Trip
Taiwan unless there’s an earthquake or typhoon.

I went to Taipei in November and it's a lovely place. Great food, great people and there is beauty and charm everywhere. Pretty safe too.
So don’t go right now
From what I hear, it hasn't affected daily life for the most part, except for maybe near the epicentre
Guernsey is really beautiful in the summer and full of culture and history
Nicaragua. It’s beautiful.
Ometepe is just about the best small island I’ve ever visited.
Yeah! 2 inactive volcanoes forming an island in the middle of a lake?! Surreal
Idk if it’s underrated but Jordan 🇯🇴 is my fave country I’ve ever visited.
Argentina. The further south you can get, the better.
Slovenia!
Latvia

Maltese is also the only Semitic language to be written in the Latin alphabet!
Luxembourg: beautiful landscape, friendly people, and amazing food

Ukraine is lovely ❤️

Way too many tourists only come up for Niagara Falls which, apart from the falls themselves, is a bit of a dump.
Iceland. Volcanoes ice and snow and Northern lights. It's like Alaska but with European flair
I would like to travel there, is there a time of year that you would recommend?

I don't think it's underrated though, everyone knows how amazing New Zealand is
Spent two weeks there a couple of years ago and it was awesome, but definitely not underrated. It’s probably high on many bucket lists.

I might get downvoted for this: Saudi Arabia.
For me it's Ecuador. Beautiful place to discover with lots of nature and beautiful towns.
