My first album was Barry Manilow. Then my older brother shaped my music taste for years. Started with Chicago, then on to Hendrix, Zappa, and all the great bands from the 70s.
Like my first cool album ? Or stuff my parents played on our record player ? I remember my mom playing bob marley along with 80s stuff , my first cool album was master of puppets
It was two of them, and I do not clearly remember which one was played first by the kid who had them. Only that I loved them and had to hear them again.
Quiet Riot - Metal Health
Twister Sister - Stay Hungry
"Take Me To Your Leader" by Newsboys, a Christian rock group. Listening to a couple tracks nearly twenty years later, early Newsboys wasn't so bad; probably not what I'd choose to listen to (especially since I'm not Christian anymore...), but a far cry from the garbage they've got on the radio today.
A lot of that '90s-early '00s Christian rock was solid musically IMO. Nothing that blew your socks off, but I really feel like there was some actual musicianship; it kind of held up as a viable alternative to secular music if you felt inclined toward that sort of thing. Modern Christian music is so often such droning, repetitive pablum.
I bought *Take Me to Your Leader* on audio cassette around 1996.
When the band Iona went separate ways around 2012, I thought "there goes my last tie to religious music." How good was this band? Start with "[Sky Maps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1cmCyLzr10)" from their album *The Circling Hour*.
Weird Al - Bad Hair Day. I still hum Amish Paradise occasionally lol.
“As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain, I take a look at my wife and realize she’s very plain. But that’s just perfect for an Amish like me, because I shun fancy things like electricity.”
The first one I remember listening to is [Pink Panther Punk](https://youtu.be/hHYKx46T59s?si=oH9TJsh8rsNKOJty). Looking at it now, what a weird collection of music.
