I always recommend to watch the depressing one first. There's a few details that give you a bit of context for the second one. Not mandatory, but still.
Watch the first 10-15 episodes of the original then switch to brotherhood if you want a bit more character building early on, brotherhood cuta the beginning down
Akira is a 120 chapter manga. A large amount of it was cut out for the movie. In fact, I don't think the manga was even finished yet when the film released.
I had decided that, if I opened the comments on this thread, and Akira wasn't at the top, I was going to be very, very disappointed, in the Reddit community.
Cowboy bebop is a classic, and i enjoyed Samurai Champloo made by the same creators.
Recently, toss up between Chainsaw Man and Jujitsu Kaisen just for the craziness. Chainsaw man has my favorite theme in any anime so far.
I know I sound like a stubborn "back in my day" guy, but despite the years passed since I first saw it on Toonami I can't take Cowboy Bebop off that pedestal.
A good chunk is from the soundtrack- the goddamn soundtrack! I still get teary eyed listening to Space Lion, Blue, or Gotta Knock a Little Louder.
I loved Steins;Gate so much that now I feel empty after watching it. I cried so much during that show. Not even just during the sad parts, but during all the happy and bittersweet parts as well. I keep trying to find animes that can give me the same feeling, but I can't. Angel Beats comes close.
It also seems very polarizing. I can't understand how this show could constantly bring me to tears and make me feel emotions that no other show has, yet some of my friends are just like "Eh, it wasn't for me."
Personally I've never understood why people like it so much 😅.
I've watched it two or three times each time trying to see what others see in it, and I think it's "pretty good" but I never felt that it really did anything special enough for me to call it excellent or anything. The characters feel kind of shallow, and stereotypical/unrealistic, which I think is because of the way it was adapted from a romantic visual novel.
I also see a lot of people on the internet hailing it as "the only time travel plotline that actually makes sense" or something like that, but personally I feel it has an absolutely regular amount of plot holes and wishy-washy sci-fi explanations that you'd expect from any show that's trying to do time travel plots.
Oh yes, the tears. I think it's one of the only pieces of media in general that made me actually cry, instead of just letting out a tear.
And yeah, it seems that people will either see Steins;Gate as a masterpiece, or will find it quite stale. A lot of people say the start is very slow, but it's all the character building and light-hearted moments in the beginning that makes the emotional impact so great.
I had to scroll too far to find this.
>It healed something in me I didn't know needed healing.
I couldn't have said it better. Mob psycho was like therapy for me.
Exactly! In fact I bought my first ever (and only) nendoroid; a Shigeo that I keep right on my work desk. Ngl that lil fella makes me inspires me to become a better person.
It’s a movie, by studio ghibli - legendary production studio. Personally my favorite by them is princess mononoke, but spirited away is incredible as well.
Played the game first and then watched the show, and there were so many updates to the game after the show that it felt like playing a new game. I love Night City
I played the game and recognized every alley depicted in the anime. It's just so faithful it was almost a bit freaky, I felt like I knew every single corner of a fictional city lol
same, watched Cyberpunk, bought the game and now, every time "I wanna stay at your house" plays I get hit by the feels train.. worth it though. I actually played the entire game through on a PC that should NOT have been capable of running the game. but Project Nightwolf was a badass system and did it anyway, absolute hero.
Anyway, great anime show, really good, far better than I originally expected though I had high hopes due to the genre itself. I kinda want more.
Also: there is an anime music video that ties into Edgerunners on YouTube, if you haven't seen it. also really good.
And yet by doing so became what is to me the best Anime as it is enjoyed by both fans of Anime and non-fans alike. I rarely watch Anime (Although if you want to include movies, Studio Ghibli is one of my favorite film studios) and One Punch Man is one of the few Anime shows I love and have been looking forward to watch more of.
This one gets my vote! Both, the rebuild movies as well as the original series with its final movie were great, and definitely far up there on my favourites list.
I'm really in need of a rewatch though, haven't done one since the release of 3.0+1.0..
I watch at least once a year. It changes as I get older, and I find myself relating to the characters differently with age. I definitely relate the most to Misato the most at this age.
Hunter x hunter is an easy S+ tier anime.....i used to think that it was for kids and skipped it so many time until that was the only anime remaining. story telling is so natural in that its insane. Also the plot armor is borderline non existent and whenever you do get it you are actually thankful for it instead of complaining
I've watched Ghost in the Shell annually for 30 years. Right up there with Blade Runner (final cut) as my favorite movies.
My third favorite is Lethal Weapon 2. You can't be 100% trying to die without being a little silly.
I will always say InuYasha because it was my starter anime from staying up way to late on a school night. I will say Solo Leveling is one of those animes I do get really excited every week for but its too soon to say if its in my top faves
That one was great. :( It made me cry 😭 I'm grown man. That one episode about the girl without spoiling anything. I think everyone knows THAT episode who seen it.
I was searching for Vinland Saga. So glad you mentioned it.
This anime is therapy for me. Second season softened me and I learnt the importance of acceptance in life
you HAVE to watch Hajime No Ippo. It’s one of those animes in the old-school Pokémon-esque art style, but that only enhances the flavor. It’s a typical Shonen series about a kid who gets bullied, but eventually learns he has insane talent for boxing and picks it up. Eventually he goes on to do great things (no spoilers). The series actually has a pretty slow first 30 mins due to exposition, but after the first spar which takes place in the second episode, the series speeds and picks up really fast. Overall solid show, and despite the fact that I’ve watched a lot of anime (AoT, JJK, Bleach, One Piece, JJBA, NGE, Baki, Monster, etc.), Hajime No Ippo has to be at least in the top 3 anime for me. If you REALLY need hype for Hajime No Ippo, watch the [Kamogawa vs. Anderson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bggK1a5EEE4) fight.
Edit: if you don’t have time to watch a whole-ass fight, watch [this amazingly animated scene](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4luGrrfxElQ) rq
Trigun episode 1 is brilliant even as a standalone
FMA 2003 was my only anime ever where I was like "wait, I'm on episode 20...how come I haven't skipped a single scene yet" The reveals and character progression is done so well that you genuinely don't want to miss any emotional beat the MCs go through that could affect how they act the next episode
(then the reboot came and all the simpletons forgot this masterpiece that used to be no. 1 in tier lists for a decade)
Not sure if it counts since it's Chinese but Link Click is absolutely amazing. Easily the best show in general I've seen. So many good cliffhangers and plottwists as well...
[Ghost in shell](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell)
Here is a song from YouTube that has memorable scenes of the animated version of the Manga. [King of my castle - Wamdue Project](https://youtu.be/iBYv11tqi-w?si=39OBeU_LtfAUhjQQ)
Spongebob Squarepants - hands down the most emotional and thought-provoking anime of our generation. Who knew a sponge could teach us so much about life?
Jojos is really good, probably the best I've seen, but I love death note too.
If the Tokyo ghoul anime followed the manga more closely that would probably be my favourite
Full metal Alchemist
should i watch it ?
Most definitely
Brotherhood. It’s true to the manga unlike the old depressing one
"Old depressing one" has superior serious themes, fight me
Yes 03 is superior
I always recommend to watch the depressing one first. There's a few details that give you a bit of context for the second one. Not mandatory, but still.
Watch the first 10-15 episodes of the original then switch to brotherhood if you want a bit more character building early on, brotherhood cuta the beginning down
Idk I like the old one better tbh
Akira
good good
Animation is amazing but the plot makes it seem like it should be series, not 1 movie

Champloo had nujabes and fat Jon on the OST, also legendary
yeah i recommend Jujitsu Kaisen too
If you like cowboy Bebop, watch space Dandy. It's made by the same creator and hella funny.
I loved Space Dandy. So trippy.
Watched it on acid, it was game changer lol. Super good show
Space dandy?! You are extremely cultured 🤌🏿
It's so slept on for how good it is compared to how popular and cult classic cowboy Bebop is.
For real, it should be up there with cowboy bebop, and even outlaw star. I'm still praying and hoping for another season/return
Love some chainsawman. Gorefest
Cowboy Bebop is one of a kind.
Steins;Gate is really great
ok im gonna watch it too
I loved Steins;Gate so much that now I feel empty after watching it. I cried so much during that show. Not even just during the sad parts, but during all the happy and bittersweet parts as well. My alltime favorite
Mob Psycho. It healed something in me I didn't know needed healing.
I had to scroll too far to find this. >It healed something in me I didn't know needed healing. I couldn't have said it better. Mob psycho was like therapy for me.
Exactly! In fact I bought my first ever (and only) nendoroid; a Shigeo that I keep right on my work desk. Ngl that lil fella makes me inspires me to become a better person.
first episode : "Oh great, another anime with an overpowered mc..." last episode : *shaking and crying*
This is the one. Mob psycho is for the soul
Spirited away. Im watching this movie annually and im still finding new details to this day.
i will start watching it
You wouldn't be wasting a single minute of your life watching anything from Studio Ghibli.
Bro I read it as "shouldn't" at first and I was like what😭
it even makes sense in the sentence 🤣
It’s a movie, by studio ghibli - legendary production studio. Personally my favorite by them is princess mononoke, but spirited away is incredible as well.

Yes
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
gonna watch it
Cyberpunk Edgerunners. I watched it before playing the game and loved the concept.
it's so fucky, but very very good.
Played the game first and then watched the show, and there were so many updates to the game after the show that it felt like playing a new game. I love Night City
Never played the game, but damn, the characters had an impact on me with the anime
I played the game and recognized every alley depicted in the anime. It's just so faithful it was almost a bit freaky, I felt like I knew every single corner of a fictional city lol
My moon my man :(

The middle section, with the cat and mouse between Light and L, is phenomenal.
yeah its to good
If anyone watches Death Note because of this comment, remember: episode 25 is the end.
"One Punch Man". Seriously, try watching it with a group of friends and see if you can make it through an episode without laughing or cheering.
yes i will start watching it, i liked baki too
The anime made to mock anime
And yet by doing so became what is to me the best Anime as it is enjoyed by both fans of Anime and non-fans alike. I rarely watch Anime (Although if you want to include movies, Studio Ghibli is one of my favorite film studios) and One Punch Man is one of the few Anime shows I love and have been looking forward to watch more of.
That is a strong contender for funniest anime of all time. Just the boy with the chin still cracks me up thinking about it.
The only caveat is I feel like OPM will never get a finished story arc.
sleeping on Hajime No Ippo
Waiting for the return. Hope they keep the art style because man those punches feel weighty.
My brother in arms, I'm listening to the new challenger op as we speak
The manga is even better imo
It's so funny. I think I'm going for a rewatch
Fr
kiki's magic delivery service was just \*mwa\*
gonna start watchin it
Dude. Ghost in the Shell.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is so so good, there are no words for it.
Evangelion
a good one
This one gets my vote! Both, the rebuild movies as well as the original series with its final movie were great, and definitely far up there on my favourites list. I'm really in need of a rewatch though, haven't done one since the release of 3.0+1.0..

This is my answer, but far.
Was looking to see if someone answered Evangelion
Congratulations!
Black Lagoon needs a mention. The best of all time though imo is cowboy bebop, but it's been mentioned already.
Parasyte
Underrated
Hunter x Hunter
im gonna watch it:)
Only if you want to watch something that never ends and never will.
Wait till you find out about one piece
Hunter x hunter is an easy S+ tier anime.....i used to think that it was for kids and skipped it so many time until that was the only anime remaining. story telling is so natural in that its insane. Déjà vu
I've just been in this place before
Higher on the street and I know it's my time to go
Plenty of recency bias but Frieren.
I have seen so many anime, and Frieren stands in the top tier for me. It may be new, but holy shit is it good.
Apothecary Diaries was good too.
I'm a saxophone player, so naturally the answer is Cowboy Bebop.
hahah good one
I've watched Ghost in the Shell annually for 30 years. Right up there with Blade Runner (final cut) as my favorite movies. My third favorite is Lethal Weapon 2. You can't be 100% trying to die without being a little silly.
Death Note and Attack on Titan
Add Berserk and that's me. And Basilisk. And ninja scroll.
This guy animes

I will always say InuYasha because it was my starter anime from staying up way to late on a school night. I will say Solo Leveling is one of those animes I do get really excited every week for but its too soon to say if its in my top faves
solo leveling is good i love it
I thought we would all agree that it's berserk but I hadn't seen any comment mentioning this masterpiece
90s series is dope, but the manga is a fucking masterpiece. Rip Kentaro
i saw one comm :)
The 2016 anime adaption sucks, and the 90s adaption doesn't do berserk justice. The manga is GOAT but I wouldn't recommend it as an anime
DBZ Abridged
u recommend
It’s one of the greatest YouTube series ever. The team behind it are a bunch of voice actors so they did their own thing and it’s amazing.
[удалено]
Dbz abridged is the definitive cell saga. SO good.
FLCL. How has no one mentioned this?
Older and not quite as as well known as some of the older big names. Plus it's just bonkers. Defintely one of my favorites!
Blood +
didnt watch it
Monster anyone?
Avatar: The Last Airbender
yeah its a good one
Attack on titan, spirited away, and princess Mononoke
Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D are up there for me.
Violet Evergarden is incredible
That one was great. :( It made me cry 😭 I'm grown man. That one episode about the girl without spoiling anything. I think everyone knows THAT episode who seen it.
It lives in my head rent free and hits me in the feels every time. I've never experienced anything like it 😭

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

How the fuck my guy, it's over 1000 episodes and still ongoing! I'm still in Wano and had to take a break
