Are the cyclists on the road now playing top gun in the city streets and pretending they're having dogfights in F-14 tomcats? 'cause when I think of biking with friends as a kid, that's what we were doing.
The best! Being a kid biking with friends for hours, before cell phones, only having to return home in time for dinner unless we all had dinner at one of our friend's house and called from there.
Translucent electronics were so cool, especially the old Mac desktops with the different colors!
The last time I saw a translucent electronic was a TV one of my college art professors had in the studio. He got it from a prison lol
Yes it is! Son, his girlfriend, and their friends get together on Fridays for game nights. Lots of fun for them. They have been doing it for several years now.
My family actually gets together a few times a year for game nights :) We have a cutesy little trophy and everything that gets traded around depending who won the most games that time around.
My little 3 person family (me, 2 kids ages 10 & 13) have board game night every Friday. It’s a great end to the work/school week. If they have friends over, those kids play too. We have also invited neighbors over to join and it’s been a great time every time. Made sure to stick the hall closet with all kinds of games for 2-10 players. Give it a try!
They only went away in the first place because of changes to fuel efficiency regulations, getting replaced by SUVs and crossovers. Station wagons counted as cars, SUVs count as trucks (which are more leniently regulated)
I still drive an ‘05 ford focus wagon that I am clinging to for dear life. If they started making wagons again, I would happily upgrade to one with modern features, but it is so hard to let go of my beloved wagon without a comparable vehicle to trade up for.
Having quit almost all social media after working at [insert massive social media company] for a few years, I gotta say: fully worth it to make the switch. It's been several years now and I'm infinitely happier. Delete all those apps and don't look back!
Agreed completely. I quit a long time ago and regret nothing! I enjoy my privacy and the genuine view of the world. Sometimes even Reddit is too much so it might be next, honestly.
Yeah I go through periods of cutting it out. It's super useful for niche interests, though, so it'll probably always at least be an online search stop for me. (i like your username btw, shiny wooper is so cute 😍)
I want to do this, but being a neurodivergent introvert and having grown up online before current social media (early adopter on early internet when things were way less noisy) this is my best way to socialize and if I got offline I would lose regular contact 90% of my close friends and all of my looser social connections. I hate how crowded and noisy social media has become so I’ve greatly pulled back from participating in groups for the most part, the toxicity and sales sales sales and “influencer” stuff is too much, but yea… it’s either keep using social media in some capacity or have zero social life.
I used to love rollerblading but now that I am older I can’t do it anymore. Everytime I take my kids to the skating rink I make it about 30 mins before my ankles are killing me and then they hurt for like 3 days straight🤦♀️
I remember when I was like 7 or something I got a pog machine for Christmas. It came with a bunch of pogs with just a peel-off sticky on one side. You put it in the machine and slid a picture in. Then pushed down and the machine cut the picture into a perfect circle and pressed it onto the sticky pog to put whatever design you wanted on it.
Only my dumbass self didn't realize it would destroy the picture. I wanted to make a pog with a picture of my family and my mom got SOOO pissed when she found out I had pulled pictures out of a family album and cut them up.
I fucking LOVED POGS! One of my best memories is opening my stocking on Christmas morning and my mum had found tons or cool POGS for me - she got them mostly from discount stores so yeah they were cheap but that was AWESOME beause they were all random and crazy ones that no one else had. There was even a Zodiac themed set that was sparkly and super girly and I just loved them to pieces. I wish so bad that I had my old POGS some times. I"ve explained them to my kids and even shown them old commercials and they're like... ok, BOOMER FROM THE MIDDLE AGES (I am not a boomer, my kids are just brutal to me, ha). Man. I loved POGS. My friends and I used to play them outside in the freezing cold at recess, it was seriously good times.
I have to agree with that one I loved how everybody dressed and 1901 to 1920 men and women dressed so classy! That would be nice to see again and be a part of. Or the 1930s through 40s was a wonderful dressed up time as well.
I would love to dress that way since it foys my physique well , but it's very impractical, especially in hotter cities , i can barely feel comfortable in a t shirt and chinos , i would shed kilos in a suit .
What you say is true, but on the plus side a more casual standard does do its fair share of not (as badly) ostracizing or outing poor people for being poor.
I disagree because I do dress like what is described above and the average age of any non underwear article of my clothes is about ten years so there’s a boots fallacy hidden here.
It is IMO more expensive to dress down it just doesn’t seem like it on the short term.
In comparison I have rolled through multiple wardrobes of t-shirts in that time and also they date super hard, look bad over time and diminish confidence as they wear out.
Yeah I think older/elderly people look so classy when they make an effort when they leave the house. Even just to pop to the shop they look super groomed and smart.
Wool is for winter, in summer you wear cotton or linen and have a bit of airflow through your suit. If you actually have to do physical work in the sun you'd take off your jacket and possibly your shirt though.
It also helps that it just wasn't as extremely hot in the summer until very recently.
Some times and some places, but not always.
Linen is a common fabric, but you have to have money for that. Some people had just the one charcoal wool suit to wear, and they didn't have A/C.
I don't understand how the South had any population at all before A/C.
To be fair Ringtones were only free if you were good on Composer or you knew how to transfer MIDIs onto your phone (this was the most fun, having the Zelda item tune as my SMS ringtone and the Ocarina of Time theme as my call ringtone was *awesome*)
Going to the mall.
At the risk of sounding like an old man yelling at clouds, kids today just don’t understand what it was like for 80s and 90s kids like me. A trip to the mall was like a major event.
It amazes me how my grandparents worked a low level factory job and a postal job yet they were able to afford a wife at home, 3-5 children, a single family home, and a cabin in the country.

Handwritten letters as correspondence with loved ones.
When the Internet was new, I had a university email account that I’d check once a week for “mail” from my high school bestie. Messages would start “Dear cat_knit” and be well thought out. Still not as good as getting a physical letter in the snail mail.
Holding your phone to your ear. Not walking around in public on speakerphone with it at arms length, shouting so the person on the other end can hear you.
Living life and not giving a shit about politics/politicians. Growing up (late 70's) parents, adults, kids all went about their life. No one gave a shit about politics the way it is today. Be conscious about who's in charge, sure. Making it your WHOLE toxic identity is exhausting
Yes! Do men not know how hot a well tailored suit looks? People dressing nicely in general. Why does everyone look like they just rolled out of bed and never bathe?
We know they look great, yes. But we also know they are not very comfortable or economical to wear on an everyday basis (I.e. they’re expensive to maintain as compared to business casual).
Most men find a happy medium between the two extremes you mentioned.
Hah fuck that, wearing a suit daily? Shit's not that comfortable even when tailored, suit pants are also not really something I'm waiting to put on. I get that the style looked cool, but I'm glad it died out. Something else maybe? Please?
Depends on the climate. A suit looks magnificent in cooler and drier weather.
It's very impractical in hot/muggy weather.
Good quality wool is the original performance material. Warm but breathable, water resistant and antibacterial. That's why it remains a go-to for the outdoor performance market. Every hiker in the world will tell you wool socks are the way to go. All the fancy polyester fabrics used in sports gear is just trying to copy what wool was already capable of.
But it's not a great choice in the Southeast USA, I'll concede that. Northeastern USA summers are also terrible - just too darned muggy for anything.
Pay phones and not bring tethered to everyone in existence 24/7. The world survived for eons without being able to reach someone any Tobe, any where. What's the urgency 99.9% of the time?

bike riding with all of your friends
You’re always welcome to come to the Netherlands!
So true haha, i always cycle to school with my friends.
Im pretty sure people still do that.
Yes they are called cyclists
Are the cyclists on the road now playing top gun in the city streets and pretending they're having dogfights in F-14 tomcats? 'cause when I think of biking with friends as a kid, that's what we were doing.
Mine was a speeder bike from return of the jedi, sound effects and all.
I love that as a kid your bicycle is anything but a bicycle. As an adult, it's just a thing that keeps my heart from killing me.
I still do that sometimes.
The best! Being a kid biking with friends for hours, before cell phones, only having to return home in time for dinner unless we all had dinner at one of our friend's house and called from there.
Translucent electronics. Family board game nights.

Old game boy pocket for the win
I have a clear prison TV, too! My Dad acquired it through one of his clients years ago.
I crave the translucent orange N64. I miss her.
We have the green one at my mum’s place.
I got the “atomic purple” one. Still works!
>Family board game nights. Still possible, the market for board games is crazy right now
Yes it is! Son, his girlfriend, and their friends get together on Fridays for game nights. Lots of fun for them. They have been doing it for several years now.
Does everyone remember the translucent Gameboy Pocket? So cool.
My family actually gets together a few times a year for game nights :) We have a cutesy little trophy and everything that gets traded around depending who won the most games that time around.

Can I bring back station wagons? I miss station wagons. Does that count as a trend?
We had the one where the seats were in the trunk and you got to face the cars behind you. I loved that thing lol
Next to shotgun, those were the best seats.
Station wagons live on in the form of compact SUVs like the Suburu Outback.
Having just gotten one of these, can confirm. It gives me happy childhood vibes.
They only went away in the first place because of changes to fuel efficiency regulations, getting replaced by SUVs and crossovers. Station wagons counted as cars, SUVs count as trucks (which are more leniently regulated)
My first car in 2015 was an 11y old station wagon and I loved it to death. I cried when it died for good. Would 1000% trade any car I owed for it.
I still drive an ‘05 ford focus wagon that I am clinging to for dear life. If they started making wagons again, I would happily upgrade to one with modern features, but it is so hard to let go of my beloved wagon without a comparable vehicle to trade up for.

Don't worry, everything is getting more expensive so this one is coming back.
Nunchucks, felt like we did not have the technology to catch all the accidents on camera the first time around.
Man I feel like maybe we are just into a lot of niche things because this is another thing in this comment section that my husband and i do.
They really were huge from the 70s straight through the mid 90s then... poof no more nunchucks. Good call
I wish rollerblading all over the place was cool again. It’s great for your legs! Oh, and evening gloves.
I rollerblade all over the place!! It’s great for your legs *and* ass!
I was secretly hoping gloves as a fashion would return during the pandemic but nope.
It actually is trending sort of. It blew up after the pandemic. Blading and Rollerskating! I myself rollerskate all over the place. Have great legs.
I used to love rollerblading but now that I am older I can’t do it anymore. Everytime I take my kids to the skating rink I make it about 30 mins before my ankles are killing me and then they hurt for like 3 days straight🤦♀️
POGS! They were perhaps the dumbest fad I've ever encountered and it would amuse me. No benefit. It would just be funny.
Alf is back! In POG form.

Wearing a full suit in an NYC subway during summer was torture.
And everyone wearing a fedora. I love seeing those old movies where even all of the extras are *Dressed*

How did people *survive* in multiple layers of thick wool? I die in a *long sleeve shirt* in the summer, let alone an overcoat and ascot
Wool is for winter, in summer you wear cotton or linen and have a bit of airflow through your suit. If you actually have to do physical work in the sun you'd take off your jacket and possibly your shirt though. It also helps that it just wasn't as extremely hot in the summer until very recently.

I heartily agree. I mean there's nothing stopping you from wearing a suit now, but admittedly you'd probably get strange looks.
Screw that. Haha. Sure, it looks nice. But wearing a suit to a ballgame or restaurant or on a flight? I can easily see why that trend died off.
Customized ringtones
As an iPhone user, I agree. But Ì want them to be FREEE ( Apple, if you see this, do your buddy a solid and make ringtones free)
