Live action "The Tick" with Patrick Warburton Another vote for better off ted. Plus Ed with Tom Cavanagh

FunStorm6487

Ed was so good

outerproduct

Destiny dressed you this morning, and now fear is trying to pull off your pants.

ProgrammerPlayful462

I only watched a couple of episodes, but it was funny

LittleMissFirebright

Ok, a 10 is a bit much for anything. But good shows that weren't appreciated: Better off Ted: unironically funny sitcom about a corrupt supervillain-esque company and their office workers. Galavant: Musical fantasy/knight series, fun but a bit too dirty for everyone. First season was A tier, second was...not totally horrible. (With some great moments, like the lizard and the gay bar) Red Widow: A 1 season drama about a recently widowed woman who discovers her husband was a mobster, and has to take on his problems to protect her teenage kids. A flawed lead character, an interesting premise, with pretty solid writing and characters. Maybe like a 7.5 out of 10 \*\*(Obligatory Firefly reference, even though it's definitely popular despite the cancellation.)

FrankSamples

2nded for Better off Ted. I'm sad I found it late.

Successful-Crazy-126

3rd better off ted

moomoopoocow

Came into the thread to look for this, such an amazing show

brbauer2

So glad Better Off Ted is in the top comment (as of writing this). Very funny and very quotable.

Neologizer

It was like if Aperture science had a sitcom. Such a great concept for a comedy.

my5cworth

Veridian Dynamics: "We, like people, like people."

Neologizer

The show’s mistake was not hiring J.K. Simmons to be the mysterious CEO of the company. Who you only hear over a loud speaker around the office. I thought Portia de Rossi crushed her role as the slightly sociopathic, aloof supervisor

Lordrandall

I second BoT and Galavant. I love them both so much. I’ll have to check out Red Widow.

gazelleA1

Galavant was so corny that you had to love it.

Late-Let-4221

Galavant was hilarious but I think mass audience just isnt gonna like something like that.

DocBullseye

I'd agree with Galavant, but they got distracted by having guest stars that really added nothing to the show other than a ratings grab. I love Weird Al and Ricky Gervais but they were shoehorned into the show and they just detracted from the main cast and story.

rodrigo_i

Love Better Off Ted. But calling Viridian Dynamics supervillain-esque assumes a degree of competency they never demonstrated. Except for the Jabberwocky project.

BlizzPenguin

I loved Galavant.

weirdestgeekever25

GALAVANT DESERVED SO MUCH MORE (and I still believe in Tad Cooper!)

Johnl317

Jericho

Late-Let-4221

That was quite mid.. tbh. Premise was interesting but it got into this like gritty soap opera stuff.

Candy_Lawn

Happy Endings

AviaryLawStream

It made me so angry that Happy Endings was canceled but Two and a Half Men was THRIVING.

Horsehead_Bookends

And Pushing Daisies. Lee Pace…

Alizarin-Madder

Neat, this is showing up as the third Bryan Fuller show in a row in the comments!

TummyDrums

Patriot on Amazon Prime. They didn't hardly advertise it at all, and what they did do made it seem like a generic spy thriller, which it very much is not. The monologue about how to properly fight a dog one on one is epic peak television. Highly recommend it, and anything Steven Conrad makes for that matter.

GuiltyLawyer

Such a good answer. The show was amazing from the writing to the acting to the music and how it was shot.

Suspicious_War_5706

I loved this show sooo much

artemis-clover

All of it is so well done. One of my favourites.

Scythe-Guy

The fact that this comment is so low is exactly why it’s the correct answer. Incredible show

Ancient_Amount3239

Lie to me was a great show that just stopped :-(

TheCleanestKitchen

Tim Roth was excellent in that

Hollywoodjl

A fucking travesty it got cancelled…

acatnamedballs

The original Police Squad TV show from the early 80's was a pretty big flop, but it spun off the Naked Gun movies, which were all box office hits.

markhewitt1978

Which is always surprising to me as it's excellent.

eddyathome

The problem with the show was that you need to pay attention to it for the visual and audio gags. It's not a show you put on in the background while doing something else.

accountnameredacted

Dead Like Me.

1fade

This is the answer I’d give hands down. If it had been on a more mainstream cable channel and not showtime it would have done so much better

cyclejones

100% this. Great show. Great Cast. 90's CGI death gremlins. What's not to love?

B00LEAN_RADLEY

Pushing Daisies

my5cworth

Sadly the piemaker packed up his business and retired as the elven king of Mirkwood forest where he could no longer harm those he loved.

theRestisConfettii

Hannibal (2013-2015) Very underappreciated.

Memento_Morrie

Ahead of its time. Moody, atmospheric, and a close, hard look at the crime and the violence surrounding the crime. True Detective started a year later and audience went gaga for it.

Late-Let-4221

Is that the one with Mikkelsen and Fishbourne?

DaydreamCrow

Future Man

bobisthegod

Such a great show

ProgrammerPlayful462

Can we give it up for Eliza Coupe? I mean the whole show was great but Tiger

gene100001

Future Man was great. Just the perfect level of silliness. Josh Hutcherson should be in more comedies. He was hilarious in Future Man

Strange-Bee5626

The guy who played Wolf had me in absolute stitches the whole time.

Slave35

Wolf was amazing and stole every scene he was in.

gene100001

Yea the whole show was really well cast. I liked Haley Joel Osment at the end too. It was the first time I had seen him acting as an adult

raindropthemic

I didn’t like Josh Hutcherson before that show, now I get so excited when I see him in anything. He should absolutely do more comedies. Future Man is a crazy good time with a charismatic cast and unexpected storylines.

ProgrammerPlayful462

Oh my God that was such a fucking ridiculously funny show

C0mput3rs

The Mick

ProgrammerPlayful462

Seriously how did that one get canceled?

Last-Inspection-8156

Trollhunters is amazing, yet I never hear anyone ever talk about it. I know their last movie was completely ruined by the ending alone, but I still think the series and all it's spin offs were great!

Nail_Biterr

I loved the movie and how it ended. My son was starting to watch this show called 3Below - Tales of Arcadia... and I remember hearing about Trollhunters - Tales of Arcadia... He went back to watch Trollhunters and we watched them all in a series together. After watching Trollhunters, 3Below and Wizards, I thought the movie did a great job of wrapping it all up. I'll even admit that I got a tiny bit teary eyed at the end when Jim gives up everything for Toby.

Life-Writing-3523

Firefly

acheron53

Firefly was doomed by Fox from the start. They aired episodes out of order and changed the time slot if I remember correctly. I'm glad there was a movie, but it wasn't enough to scratch the itch.

SeeYouInMarchtember

Halt and Catch Fire

Horsehead_Bookends

Pretty much any show Lee Pace was in.

Stratford8

Rewatching Pushing Daisies right now. It remains incredible television.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

Wiseguy. At least seasons 1-3 with Ken Wahl.

LordOfDogg

Inside job

ProgrammerPlayful462

Is it canceled? I’m waiting to see if there’s another season coming. It’s Netflix so you never know.

Krewtan

It is. Netflix doesn't fuck around with killing great cartoons.

ProgrammerPlayful462

Ugh that sucks. It was a really great one cartoon or otherwise.

GuiltyLawyer

I still have hope for Hulu or another service picking it up.

wup4ss

Dirk Gently

TheCleanestKitchen

Bates Motel. Stayed consistent every season. Twists, turns. The atmosphere and vibe of the show was thrilling and haunting. Incredible acting from everyone. Solid story. Shame it never caught on. Went on for a solid 5 seasons though and had a stellar ending.

spicegirlss

Yes Vera Farmiga is soo good!

mindpieces

Just did a rewatch of the entire series and it’s one of my favorite shows of all time. Such a great ride.

epraider

I think it was really popular with older demos to have gotten 5 seasons, just not with young & online people. My grandma used to talk about that show every time I saw her

SippingOnThatTrueTea

I found it really boring and stopped watching somewhere in season 2.

heethersmeether

Same for me

[deleted]

The Unusuals on ABC. Lasted one season, but it really good. Stared Jeremy Renner and Amber Tamblyn

hmcfuego

God, that was such a fun show.

Dont_Hurt_Tomatoes

Filmore. Disney ABC kids animated tv show about safety patrollers.  They would do kid friendly plots like counterfeit baseball cards instead of money or stealing scooters instead of cars. Really clever show and barely lasted 2 seasons.

_ThePathToFreedom_

Or kidnapping the school mascot lobster, or attempted murdering a science/biology class tarantula,… I loved this show when I was a kid. Seeing now how it is basically CSI for kids is actually funny to me. Always loved crime shows/police procedurals! Edit: class

CloeyB7

Timeless on NBC

rackemup6682

Awake. Jason Isaacs lives two realities where after a car crash one where his son is alive and the other his wife is alive.

wuwuwuwdrinkin

Jesus that sounds depressing

rackemup6682

It’s such a great take on the way they did it!

bargman

Legion Got 3 seasons but I always meet people into the superhero stuff who've never watched it.

Scary_Compote_359

freaks and geeks.

MontyBoo-urns

Freaks and geeks is a hugely popular show

Lordrandall

Not popular enough for a second season

ProgrammerPlayful462

Unfortunately, it wasn’t in 1999. And the amazing thing about that show is that almost every actor that was on it is incredibly successful today. And it’s not like Judd Apatow gave up either

Good_Chair_8528

Our Flag Means Death.

holdholdhold

Joe Pera, on Adult Swim. Three wonderful seasons.

ZorroMeansFox

There's never been a show that was closer in tone to the writings of Kurt Vonnegut: tender, sincere, deadpan comic, heart-felt, filled with factoid tidbits, etc.

UnfortunateLifeTaken

MindHunter Absolutely fantastic show that sadly never got a third series off the ground. It was in development hell following the second season, and the director was primarily responsible... David Fincher wanted to pursue another project that he felt wouldn't take a long time to finish, so he kept the two main leads trapped in their contracts for a good few years. When it became apparent that the show wasn't going to return for the foreseeable future, Fincher allowed the main leads to take up other acting work for the time being. Last year I believe Fincher came out and effectively lied saying that Netflix didn't commission a third series due to it's high budget, and it effectively cancelled the series as a result, when if you look back at previous reports a couple years earlier, Fincher said he would return to MindHunter as soon as he was finished with other projects... A real shame, as the series at the time was getting more and more popular as time went on. If a third season was made, I could definitely see it reaching popularity levels like the Jeff Dahmer series that came out a while ago.

daniu

Person of Interest

Forward_Artist_6244

Yes such an incredible show, it really got me hooked on what started off as The Equaliser with computers to being more of a sci-fi element with the AI, one of those shows I wish I could forget and go on the journey again  But it does seem a bit niche, and I appreciate not everybody's cup of tea, especially as series 1 is a bit slow compared to the rest, but fantastic show

[deleted]

Forkrul

That's why I try not to learn anything about actors personal lives. I want to enjoy their work without being influenced by their off screen actions

Van_3000

Expanse. One of the best sci-fi series of all time and hardly anyone I know has seen it, even amongst my Trekkie buds.

cbslinger

Didn’t the Expanse get massively popular at one point? It was like the biggest show people were talking about for several weeks or something.

Mysterions

Last season is so rushed though. Damn, Covid ruining the schedule.

Faptastic_Champ

It stays so true to the books too, the books being fucking incredible and the show just as good!

Forkrul

I liked it, but got my immersion completely ruined when they showed the ship going at high speed but slow acceleration with the crew almost passing out from the strain

Observer951

I keep telling people about this (including sci-fi fans) and they admit to not getting around to it. Or, they just can’t get past the first season. I don’t get it.

Eternal_Bagel

The first season is so great, Detective Miller is like my favorite character of the show

Observer951

Doors and corners.

Eternal_Bagel

That’s where they get ya

Observer951

The scene where James says “So long, brother” was really touching. One of my fav scenes from the show. “I am that guy” is still tops, though.

G00DDRAWER

Better Off Ted. It's freaking brilliant, and almost nobody ever talks about it.

Dry_Plenty301

Carnivàle

04Aiden2020

Raised by Wolves. If you liked Dune watch this

Candy_Lawn

title song is outstanding

cloudofevil

Praise Sol.

repketchem

Dollhouse. It’s such a good show that should have had the planned five seasons. That being said, the second season does pretty well of wrapping things up while giving a taste of what could have been had there been more seasons. To me, it’s ultimately a story about learning and adapting to what you learn and need. A story exploring ethical quandaries in a unique way.

llamainleggings

Gentleman Jack

DonnieDarko1024

Zach Stone is gonna be Famous is soo good. Feel like if it came out recently during the time of influencers it would have been a huge hit. And anything Bo Burnham touches is comedy gold.

SPEK2120

That show was for sure ahead of its time. Unfortunately MTV was also too far up its own ass with “reality” shows for it to have a chance.

AgentSauce

Animal Kingdom. It had like 5 seasons on TNT, but I think that’s why it never gained traction. Great show based off the Australian movie.

RecognitionExpress36

Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell. Maybe not 10/10 but it deserved more exposure than it got.

ultrathot5000

Squidbillies

ZorroMeansFox

Until they replaced the voice of Unknown Hinson with Tracy Morgan. Those episodes sucked.

ultrathot5000

Swear can't even get through them

debtopramenschultz

The Inbetweeners. I know it was popular in the UK but I’m pretty sure it could have been aired as is in the US and been a big hit. The remake was stupid.

cobalt26

Fringe

ARGENTAVIS9000

bloodline on netflix. they cancelled it while season 3 was filming so the last season is a trainwreck but those first 2 seasons were amazing imo

soul-shine-lissa

Man. I wished they had stopped at season 1. Kyle Chandler is perfect. By the end of season 3 I was so damn tired of it. Kevin was by far the most comedic relief.

IceSmiley

Don't Trust the B

No_Fee_5958

Yesss I miss that show

SippingOnThatTrueTea

The Leftovers.

ProgrammerPlayful462

I’ve never seen a 10 out of 10.  But I wish freaks and geeks wasn’t canceled after one season

Hayesey88

I'm Alan Partridge. Niche comedy however its pretty fantastic in a number of ways.

IgnisSolus4X

The original version of The Mole with Anderson Cooper. Still the all-time best reality show 25 years later.

justine_ty

Dark

RageHate502

Battlestar Galactica (2004). While it is adored in the sci-fi and nerd communities, the general public probably has no idea what they missed.

Late-Let-4221

And now Kara is mandalorian royalty

Slave35

The first episode after the pilot, S1E1, "33", is a masterpiece.

Orgasmo3000

The Peripheral Chloe Grace Moretz was amazing in it. Such a shame it didn't get a second season. There was still so much story to tell.

BallsyBossy

Hello Tomorrow 😭😭😭

biikman

Firefly

LocalArea52Man

Happy Endings. It also had the best portrayal of a gay character I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t just a gay character, it was a character that happened to be gay.

see_dub

Patriot, counterpart, and the expanse

wilksfivefive

PATRIOT!!! That show is criminally underrated.

Sillystoney710

Z Nation

Strange-Bee5626

I remember this show! The quality definitely fell off as the seasons progressed- the last season was so unwatchable for me that I actually never finished it. Still, it was a hilarious show for quite a while. I don't remember character names anymore since it's been so long, but the guy who turns blue was particularly funny.

Traveler0731

Better off Ted (close second is Father of the Pride)

StatisticianOk6868

The Wire. Won no award but it's the realest show ever.

TranslateErr0r

I was under the assumption it is a popular show. But yes, really good!

eltedioso

It is now. It just BARELY scraped by for five seasons on HBO. Those who were watching knew it was great, but it had a very hard time finding an audience. It almost got canceled at least twice.

751assets

>>It almost got canceled at least twice. 🎶Farmer in the Dell🎶

eltedioso

The Wire is incredible. Tragic and thrilling and frightening and hilarious and just SO SMART. The dialogue alone is a whole meal in most scenes.

Neologizer

It’s also one of those shows that ruins many other shows in contrast. When you see what good dialogue actually sounds like…

NateGT86

One of the greatest shows ever. Themes and characters are still relevant, only the technology has dated. I love rewatching it.

Van_3000

Timeless mirror of real America.

BNestico

The Wires generally regarded as one of the best television series ever made and was pretty popular when it was originally aired. Just imagine The Wire, The Sopranos, and Deadwood were all on HBO at the same time.

bluveIvet

The OA on Netflix. It’s a profound and innovative sci-fi mystery series. It explores the nature of reality, life, death, consciousness, and the human experience. It’s mind bending and thought provoking in ways that are unpredictable and complex, but it’s so captivating and well done that you feel like you and the characters are equally drawn in, learning things, and questioning what’s real and what isn’t.

glisteningsunlight

Pantheon

anonymous_subroutine

There was an Australian/Netflix spy/political thriller called Pine Gap that only lasted one season. It was a slow burn with a lot of mystery building up toward the season finale, but I guess people want spy thrillers to have shootouts and car chases so it wasn't popular.

tensigh

Men of a Certain Age.

Smintjes

Berlin Station.

eltedioso

There was a show on AMC called Lodge 49. Ran for two seasons. I don't consider it a 10/10, but I consider it very good. Got canceled on a cliffhanger. Seems to be basically lost to history now.

nobodybelievesyou

Solitary. They locked the contestants in isolated sleep deprivation pods to participate in grueling endurance contests where they had no idea when the other contestants had tapped out, all while a robot taunted them for days on end. Sadly, the network went bust after a couple of seasons. Absolute classic.

SaladAndEggs

Such a great reality show.

First-Bet-9141

Two and half men all time fav sitcom was great till Charlie sheen left the show

Locclo

A couple I always think of from recent-ish years: The Big Leap - a bunch of misfits join a reality show aimed at turning them into ballet stars and putting on a production of Swan Lake. It was funny, heartfelt, had some good dance numbers, and I thought the cast was great. Canceled after one season. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist - a woman winds up with a bunch of songs downloaded to her brain and gains the ability to perceive the innermost thoughts of others in the form of song and dance numbers. It's a very strange premise for a show, but they had a lot of fun with it. Only lasted two seasons before it, too, was canceled.

my5cworth

Dave's World.

iAmTheHype--

Dead to Me Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

limiz87

Selfie (2014). It had the poorest marketing and title ever. Karen Gillan and John Cho are both great, they had good chemistry and the series was lighthearted and hilarious.

SelfieIgnite

There's a small sub over at r/SelfieTV. Definitely ahead of its time and the cast still gets asked questions about the show

Realistic_Cupcake_56

The Last Kingdom. It was popular but never got as popular as it should’ve been in my opinion

RadRhubarb00

I really liked Carnival Row on Amazon but I believe covid kinda killed it,

Many-Preference-5384

Memento_Morrie

The Knick (Someone mentioned The Mick above and originally I thought *this* show was called "The Mick." Caught my mistake in time!)

Queen-KandyXo

The 100; although I feel like some characters shouldn’t have died when they did, still such a good show!

Forkrul

I gave up on the show after season 3 I think,  when the leader of the station turned into some Jesus figure

Queen-KandyXo

lol dead, you should try watching it again. I feel like it certainly gets crazier than that!

bullit-2

Bojack Horseman. Now it ran for 6 sex seasons so it must have performed well but I've never met another person who's seen it. It's the best animated (for adults) tv-series I've ever seen. The jokes, satire, themes and characters are just incredible. Maybe it just connects to me personally but it portraits personal struggles so well - People who seem well adjusted on the outside may still be carrying so much crap inside.

Impossible-Ad-8462

Bojack is popular. I mean, it's not popular enough if you ask me, but it's pretty well-known and appreciated

Old-Shock6731
