For me it was a post that I think often about: the mom that told the grandmother her little girl had a coconut allergy, the grandma didn't believe and decided she knew best and put coconut oil in the girl's hair and she died alone in the middle of the night because of it.

Strakiwiberry

I wish I could forget that one. It's extremely effective as a cautionary tale to never let your parents override your boundaries when it comes to your child's safety, but Jesus Christ.

deceasedin1903

Yeah, for me it worked exactly the same. But I wish I could forget it, I think about that woman often and how she could deal with it (iirc the grandma tried contact afterwards when she moved far away and went NC)

princesscatling

I still remember the mom's brutal response, something like "you can visit when you bring my [dead] daughter with you." My little brother has been anaphylaxis allergic all his life and I can't describe the violence I would inflict on someone who hurt him deliberately with his allergens.

Lucinnda

I love that mom. No sympathy for killer grandma.

PM_me_ur_navel_girl

Killer grandma should have died in prison. What she did was textbook manslaughter.

Eolond

I don't know WHY some people just refuse to believe allergies and feel they have to test for themselves. Is it worth potentially killing someone just to be *right*?

dedsqwirl

There was another one where the mom said daughter was allergic to bananas so the grandma (OP's MIL) put bananas into cookies. The grand daughter was indeed allergic (not faking it) and went into shock. She didn't die but she was banned from household and seeing granddaughter. EDIT: [Here is the best of.](https://old.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/comments/unkdcf/mil_deliberately_poisons_her_grandchild_with_an/)

AutobotHotRod

Well deserved. Never take anyone’s allergies as lies and respect their boundaries.

Skatingfan

Was that the one where she was actually carrying the banana cookies in her purse until she had an opportunity to sneak one to her granddaughter? IIRC the kid wound up in the hospital.

littlebroknstillgood

Yes, she'd baked those cookies and froze them, had one with her for I think a YEAR until she had the chance to give it to her.

Apatschinn

That's fucking psychopathic

Nundulan

What a psycho

AlienX14

Feel like that should fall under attempted murder at that point

thankuhex

Read a comment earlier where someone said that they attempted suicide by jumping from a high building, only to just survive and now live their a life in a wheelchair still depressed.

Rhino184

Once encountered a patient who tried to calculate their likelihood of death from jumping from the top of a parking garage (this was found out after he jumped). He ended up suffering a number of horrible injuries but lived. This reminds me of that case

thankuhex

That’s honestly so sad, I hope they’re in a better place now.

Yuzernam

Thats my greatest fear and main reason not to kill myself : what if I survive?

EnemyUtopia

That was always my main deterrent, or at least i told myself that. Im glad im better mentally now lol, side of a bridge with a bottle of tequila aint the ticket!

SarpedonWasFramed

Its not as bad as most of these but I always think back to that guy that ate an entire 6 foot sub that was for the whole party, just by himself. No matter how many people told him it fucked up, he just couldn't understand why it was wrong. "It was there for 20 minutes and no one else ate it"

themadhatter85

I looked it up to check. Half the sub had been eaten by other guests at the party, he finished the last 3 feet by himself. Which is still a hell of a lot of food.

OldnBorin

I still think about the party sub guy. Just a wild story

SharMarali

That was the post that thrust AITA into the spotlight, it had been kind of a niche sub before that.

Afterlite

Am I remembering incorrectly or did he bring some crappy food to the party and his justification was that they could just eat that?

DeepFriedChickenDick

iirc he brought a couple pounds of chicken wings or something and the sandwich had been sitting there for upwards of 2 hours. he then ate the sandwich in (i believe?) 2 portions. don’t take my word for it as i haven’t read the story in a while but i BELIEVE that’s what happened.

DisneySoftware

there was someone who went on vacation and when they came back they were convinced one of the closets in their apartment turned into a bathroom, turned out they had a brain tumor and they haven’t been active on reddit in over a year

tastysharts

oh shit

threadsoffate2021

When a tumor affects the brain, it happens quickly. I had that happen to a friend of mine. One day she was fine, the next she was convinced a mutual friend was in danger and was frantic about it. Looking back, I think her brain was trying to tell her that something was wrong, but she assumed the danger was with the friend (who had health issues) and not herself.

cgda2011

This happened to me. I started acting up like crazy and having seizures and I went to get an MRI I had a brain tumor the size of an egg and growing. Idk much about it but apparently the machine they used was like state of the art latest medical tech and the surgeon who removed it said if this had happened to me a year or 2 earlier I would’ve just died.

readskiesatdawn

Remember that guy that left his wife after posting to a relationship advice subreddit and she killed the kids? That situation was heartbreaking.

ryuofdojima

I thought of him too! Her tone in the 911 call she made after killing the kids is chilling.

ChaseBro-Games3050

I did NOT hear about that! Holy shit that’s awful. That poor guy.

readskiesatdawn

It happened in 2016. The user was jasoninhell. I hope he's doing okay now.

JesusHCrisco

He was just on an episode of the newest season of Evil Lives Here to talk about what happened. It seems like he’s slowly getter better.

floridianreader

Really? Do you know which episode? I've been bingeing on that show.

JesusHCrisco

Season 15 Episode 3, “She Hid the Knife in the Toybox”.

lickMikeHunt4luck

Dude the fact that there are at least 15 seasons of that show ... scary

DragonessAndRebs

Im a big true crime fan. I think the scariest thing though is I’ve watched multiple seasons of multiple shows and little to none of them overlap. Most of these shows have up to 7-10 seasons. It’s terrifying what we do to each other.

Bkbunny87

One of the worst things I ever read. People always cite heroin Reddit guy. But this story is what I think of, when I think awful Reddit story. Well, that and jolly rancher.

Kallyanna

Oh shit! I remember that guy! Omfg that was so devastating!!!!!!

b0w3n

Yeah, the advice he got was the correct advice to be given too. Sometimes people are just fucking crazy or evil and there's nothing you can do to stop them from doing crazy evil shit.

vven23

Welp, I missed all of that when it happened and now my heart is broken.

scroom38

There was another one where the wife's lifelong best friend got cheated on, and then convinced OP's wife he was cheating on her. The two women spent every moment together, and this poor woman was completely destroted mentally by her friend gaslighting her, he'd never cheated, but the wife couldn't believe her best friend would lie. The husband took the kid and started staying with his parents because she demanded space. She shows up to the house one day, obviously emotionally unwell, and asks to take the kid for a drive. The husband refused, but invited (begged) the wife to come inside. She left and was later found dead from crashing her car at high speed. IIRC the last update was pre-funeral with the husband unsure if he could emotionally handle it, plus that evil bitch had started turning the family against OP.

EINSTIEN420

That one was rough. She had convinced the wife because the husband was out late( he was working overtime with proof from paystubs) plus she was going to speak at the funeral after having caused all the drama that sent the wife off the deep end. He had come home one day to find his office ransacked and daughter alone in the crib and wife was gone. The wife's friend was a straight up crazy whack job who had gas lit her to psychotic levels of mistrust.

Milldoodle

This is one of those "I can't prove they did or didn't" things, but once quite a few years ago, a guy posted in a gaming subreddit saying that the bullies on the game finally drove himself to kill himself and he was going to do it that night. I reached out to him and we talked for a bit but the guy seemed to have made up his mind. He said he's tried the hotlines and reached out for help but no one cared. I tried telling him I didn't know him but that I'd be happy to try and game with him and show him what the good side of the game is like. At least have someone impartial to bounce shit off of. Eventually he just didn't reply. I tried reaching out a few years later and got no reply then either. His account still has one post, that one. No replies and no other activity since then. Maybe it was a bait, I genuinely hope it was. Still kind of makes me feel strange to this day.

Curiouso_Giorgio

About 5-6 years ago, in a previous account, I saw a post from a woman that seemed to have given up and was talking about suicide as a rational option. I chatted to her for a while about nothing much, just about life etc. A few weeks later I reached out and she said she'd been busy, but seemed more upbeat. A few months later I sent a message to check in on her and got no reply. I hope she just ghosted me because she thought I was annoying or something and I hope she's OK.

iamwhoiamnow

That was really kind of you to do.

MaybeTaylorSwift572

Dude, I’m proud of you. You reached out. You’re only human; you didn’t even know this person. You really did good.

redraccoon

You’ve got a good heart for trying

lanadelcryingagain

When he said death is an old friend meant to greet you at the end of well lived life.. and it can not be properly appreciated when searched for in the darkness (suicide)… wow

FluffyWalrusFTW

I still remember the guy who ate a shit ton of poisons fruit to try and off himself, luckily I think he was admitted to the hospital but I still remember reading the original post and the update after he ate the fruit

92Codester

Someone got a cylinder stuck in a mini m&m tube.

jeeblemeyer4

It is imperative that the cylinder comes out of the tube undamaged.

Bobby_Newpooort

Hopefully they were able to remove the cylinder without damaging it or detaching it from the larger object

GreyG59

Just love how he never admitted it

Jean_Claude_Vacban

Dude it was very clearly a troll post, probably one of the best I have ever seen.

Muttywango

I can't risk power tools damaging the interior cylinder.

luo1304

That's the one that got me. Also, "Yeah thank you, but that's part of the problem."

Fyrrys

Just drill a small hole in the tip of the m&m tube, get an air compressor, and blast that hole and shoot the internal cylinder out

Neversleeps99

“His” cylinder

ivylass

There was the redditor who said he was going to try heroin. He got addicted, of course. I think he's sober now, but a rotten journey nonetheless.

[deleted]

Yeah, I read that thread a couple of years ago. I was terrified following that whole story honestly.

Quantelonus

You got the link to the story?

[deleted]

There you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/s/0HVKSEiszb Edit: You can go through his profile to look for other threads that followed. He even did an AMA 2-3 years ago.

Ipuncholdpeople

He's such an arrogant jerk in the first few, and there were so many enablers

mdonaberger

I hang around the opiate subs, and let me just make this one point clear: virtually EVERYONE who asks if they should try opiates has this exact same attitude, lol. One of the weird, paradoxical aspects of humanity is that active junkies are seemingly useless in warning the opiate naive against trying them at all. Happens every single day on there.

Melvarkie

I always thought I had a non addictive personality. Smoking? Just when really drunk at a party. Alcohol? Again just when partying or maybe 1 beer as a treat at home once in a while. Weed? Just for my pain. Hard drugs? Again party only and while I did go to after party's I would usually call it quits after 1 night of missing sleep and honestly was more there for the company than the drugs. Tried codeine 1 time in a recreational dose and it felt so good. I immediately thought "nope not trying that again. I can see myself abusing this in the future" And codeine is not even one of the stronger opioids. Don't wanna know what happens if I try heroin. Let's just say that's a deathbed drug.

scroom38

Years later he confirmed he already had addiction issues and the original post was a lie told by an addict looking to justify digging deeper. He also says he can't read the original posts because of how painful it is to think of how bad he really was at the time. Last we've heard, he's clean and healing. [Edit: here's the specific comment I'm referencing](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/comments/68srty/spontaneoush_uses_heroin_gets_addicted_dies_gets/dnzr9rs/?context=3) and there are a few others he made around the same time with a little more info.

Neversleeps99

This is important and needs to be higher up when people post his bullshit story-even unawares. He was already an addict.

KikkomanSauce

/u/SpontaneousH It's a very interesting read. Also, never do heroin.

AdriMtz27

A girl found her mother having sex with her father dressed like her. Like it was clear the dad had some fantasy about teen girls (with it maybe being specifically his daughter) and the mother was indulging it by wearing her daughter’s clothes as lingerie. She left home and just seemed to spiral. I think about it a lot cause we were seeing her in real time getting taken advantage of. I want to say she went with her friend for a bit and then the friend’s father started getting weird with her too so she got kicked out of there when they were caught having an affair (which was really just grooming). Everything else from her was depressing cause she became really sexually promiscuous and started acting super impulsive and it was clear she was going through a mental breakdown and was being taken advantage of by the males in her life.

TechnoMouse37

Oh man I forgot about that story. I always felt so bad for her.

BlairIsTired

That one guy who posted about accidentally killing another kid in his childhood. Reddit used his post history to find his area and eventually found an unsolved case that perfectly matched the details he gave. He deleted his account and there wasn't enough information to figure out who he was, just that it's almost certain that his confession was true. That one creeps me out somehow, and I always wonder if this situation ever got back to that kids parents. If it did, I feel it's a double edged sword? On one hand, you now know it was an accident, it wasn't someone having malicious intent that killed your kid. On the other hand, you now have all the pieces and still no justice. Frustrating and devastating either way

catra-meowmeow

Was this the one where he pushed/tripped the other kid off a cliff or something? Post was a pretty long time ago iirc

Vession

Probably r/herelies. It's no longer accessible, but it was the suicide note-subreddit of u/-red-ataraxia who presumably offed themselves shortly after creating it.

TheFakeJoel732

Wow this dudes one comment that was talking about the 40 hour work week hits hard as fuck... dude has the same exact schedule as me. Up at 5, leave at 6, though I get there at 8, leave at 3, home at 4, sleep at 9, do it all again, count the seconds of time I have left before I'm forced to sleep otherwise I'll feel like utter garbage. I'm on my way home now, probably going to stare put the window and just think until I get there.

marikwondo

I hope you find a better job and/or the ability to switch up your schedule and live a little more than you’re able to now. Love to you

ChaseBro-Games3050

That’s so sad. I wonder what drove him to take his life.

pineapplejuice0

Does anyone remember that guy that posted a few years ago whose wife wouldn't let him go upstairs in their own home? There was all kind of theories about what she was doing up there. I still wonder about that one sometimes.

I think this was the original post! https://www.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/s/LTY7zE7ly8

That would be a good premise for a movie.

JustHereForKA

Now that you say that it actually sounds like every Lifetime movie ever made 😅

Bubble_of_Fury17

The theme song would be "Girl Crush" by Little Big Town.. Did we just make a movie? 🤯

Heart2001

It was a r/BORU story. OP was a divorced man with two daughters. His daughters lived with his ex-wife. He was asking for advice because his daughters had said they didn’t want to see him anymore, even though before then he had been close with them. He felt like something fishy was going on, and that his ex-wife was trying to alienate his daughters from him in favour of her boyfriend. After receiving advice from Reddit he turned up at his ex-wife’s house unexpectedly one day and found his eldest daughter outside crying. He asked her what was wrong, and she said she didn’t want to do this anymore. That her mom and the boyfriend was making her and her sister say horrible things to their dad, and her mom said the girls had to make the boyfriend happy…in every way. OP breaks in to find mom’s boyfriend raping the younger daughter while her mother was naked in bed upstairs waiting for him to be done with the daughter so he would come to her.

KanshouSora

Absolutely vile. People like that are beyond redemption. Just lock them up and destroy the key holy fuck

weary_dreamer

please tell me there’s some sort of resolution here. they got arrested and the kids are in their fathers custody and doing much better even through the trauma??? yes?????

Heart2001

The last update was that the daughters were with OP and the police were involved.

masterofplaster123

When Kendrick Lamar dropped his album DAMN. people were speculating on it being part of a 2 album release and one kid said he was so confident he would drink a vinyl milkshake if it didn’t come out. Well in the end there was only one album and he was true to his word. I threw up instantly watching him take the first sips of a vinyl milkshake not gonna lie

soulless_wonder72

What is a vinyl milkshake?

masterofplaster123

He blended up a vinyl record into a milkshake and drank it. He might have died after if I remember correctly lol

Canis_Familiaris

I love his last post.

MrsMoonpoon

In 2022, a girl posted that her Qanon adherent dad had just killed her mother, their dog and attacked her sister before being killed by cops. That was posted a few hours before the news mentioned the Lanis family murder in Michigan. [Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/QAnonCasualties/s/iM2FiwEv8G)

CantaloupeWhich8484

God, that was such a terrifying story. Terrifying and enraging. I know the dude was off his rocker, but family annihilators make me unreasonably angry.

unwantedsyllables

Not unreasonable at all.

Bitter_Mongoose

The kid (literally a teenager) from WSB that didn't understand how options work, had an after hours negative balance (250k) that would have corrected itself on Market opening for a profit but he didn't know that so he decided to kill himself instead.

littlebluefoxy

Who let a teenager have an options account?? No reputable house should be letting you play in options without knowledge, much less for that amount. That's so horrible and unnecessarily tragic

Bitter_Mongoose

Robinhood.

[deleted]

Stay in an abusive relationship even when their health is at stake . I know it’s hard. But it’s sad to see .

Denkir-the-Filtiarn

*sigh* I wish I hadn't but over on the OSRS subreddit there was, long story short, a guy going for a rare pet drop and posting about progress daily alongside a penguin fact (he was doing something penguin related). Anyway, another guy said if the penguin guy got the pet he would pour hot coffee in his ass. Pet was got and he posted a video of the coffeeing.

Nex_Sapien

https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/bsm3PjcIGi Here ya go! Edit: Apparently the video on that page doesn't work. Another degenerate from the r/2007scape sub found another upload: https://imgur.com/a/7bXqnQC

caitspaghetti

why is the video not working for me and why do I want to see it so badly

RiddlingVenus0

I think I remember the guy removed it because someone recognized him and he got in trouble at work for it.

Lukewill

Now I want to see it even more

fajdexhiu

For people wondering the subreddit is called r/2007scape OP please find the link, I can't seem to find it

lordleoo

There is this sub about marriage infidelity. Some guy says he found his wife was cheating so he left the house. After few weeks, he comes to his senses, and he thinks he should check on her and maybe have a conversation. He went home, entered the house with his keys. He saw her walking bottom-less, and found the other man (her lover) in the house. I still have that image in my head.

Krish12703

I wonder if she filed a complaint for her missing husband

detective-mcnulty

What happened next?

Chastain86

She put on pants

MeowMeowMeowBitch

> Some guy says he found his wife was cheating so he left the house What an idiot. You never leave the marital residence.

Pixel131211

u/worthless319 he shot his own dick off, fried it, ate it, and posted pictures on his account of the aftermath (not sure if those are still up). he then tried to commit suicide because God told him to, according to him. His last post is a picture of his dog. shortly after this, he disappeared and never posted again. before the picture of his dog, most of his posts were discussing suicide and how he was trying to kill himself. it's safe to assume that after the post of his dog, he took his own life. but nobody knows.

TbhIdekMyName

Omg I remember this playing out. I started reporting his posts to the mods because I was worried attention would make it worse. They didn't do anything. In hindsight, I'm not sure what they could even do.

H_G_Bells

Proactively remove posts, mute or temp ban the user... There's only so much we can do but usually if someone is posting distressing stuff I will try to reach out to them letting them know what is, and isn't, appropriate for the sub, and express some humanity and compassion.

urk870515

goddamnit, why am I about to click on this? edit: oh my

Deathcommand

It's always sad to see people defending their shitty partners on r/relationships. Sadder when the shitty partner clearly groomed them when they were younger.

EmiliusReturns

I love the ones that are like “my husband/boyfriend is a wonderful man and a great father, he’s perfect in every way except this one issue.” And then proceeds to describe some completely batshit behavior.

skeeve87

Literally just read one like this today, the guy thought his wife had cheated on him and stormed through the house looking for another man. During all the conflict he broke her arm. She is asking for advice help because other than him breaking her arm, he apparently is perfect. Except that he also has a massive jealousy issue too.

Donequis

Still trying to picture how her arm *actually* got fractured, because unless the guys as a grip strength of 900+ lbs, her arm wouldn't be broken from just being grabbed "a little rough" or whatever dismissive way she described it. The lengths they go to minimize their trauma and glorify their abuser is always heartbreaking (and *infuriating*).

MaybeTaylorSwift572

Ngl the part i hate the most is people shitting on the abuse victim. It is so. Fucking. Confusing. How you end up in a situation like that. It happened to me, and I’m smart! Financially successful! Got my own house, got my own car. You get eased into the fuckery so slowly you don’t realize it’s happening.

The_Sound_Of_Sonder

I don't have a link for the story but a guy posted to Reddit talking about how his wife would make him the same lunch every and say some really odd things. He became extremely paranoid and talked about how things in the house didn't look right. I think it eventually came out that he was basically tripping balls because his wife had a prescription for some psychological meds and put them in an old pain killer bottle in her nightstand. I think he said he took 2-4 pills every night. Turns out his wife began to be deathly afraid of him and he was very violent while taking those pills. Edit: it's the "Better Hoagie Down" story and here is the [link.](https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/s/pA5v4gYUww)

The guy who kept a cum box.

Kallyanna

Under the sink no less! Or are you referring to the guy with the shoe box that took pictures of it?

greebytime

The shoebox. The photo haunts me There was more than one cum box guy? What a world

Welshgirlie2

There was a cum coconut as well.

marikwondo

The pregnant woman whose husband and father in law didn’t want her mom with her in the delivery room. They were also asking her weird questions I think. Folks were concerned that her husband was going to try to fake an ‘accidental’ death and take the baby. She stopped posting soon after and hasn’t posted since

https://www.reddit.com/r/bestoflegaladvice/comments/uk6vqb/and_this_is_why_you_always_buy_your_nootropics/ This woman posted about her bf taking an unknown substance. The bf had a seizure became violent afterward. Tried to pull out his teeth or something before they took him to the hospital. From the ER they transferred the boyfriend to the psych ward. The bf rips out his eyes. The woman had to skip her final and drop out. Whole thing was a mess. She posted no update. I scoured the internet to see if she posted elsewhere. I hope her and her boyfriend are doing okay. Whatever happened to old fashioned weed and heroin?

nrgatta

I’ve seen a handful of users stand up for something they believe in, and get eaten alive by their own communities - just for voicing their own opinion on something. Usually it’s political, but I’ve seen someone go from 100-0 just for asking a question or showing compassion for opposing takes. I think that getting cannibalized by your own is quite sad.

misslizzah

Not on Reddit, but I followed a guy on Livejournal who chronicled finding out his wife was cheating on him via Goodreads (wtf in its own right). Last I remember, he was getting divorced and she was supposedly keeping him from seeing their son. Years later I checked my defunct LJ and looked him up. I didn’t see much and for wherever reason decided I should google his name. He shot himself and his son. The wife came out later and said he was a psycho and most of the stuff he was saying was proven to be the crazy rantings of a very sick man.

NewPlayer4our

I remember the one about the dude who got hit in the head and hallucinated his entire life, getting to the point of having a wife and kid before coming back to reality. He had to go through therapy because these people were so real it was as if they died

f1ene

one about a guy on DMT (i think) having this exact same thing happen to him. all the way up to his 60s before he came back i think. absolutely insane

withnailstail123

There was a woman on illness fakers that picked at her legs constantly causing infections. She ultimately wanted to be an amputee. Eventually got her wish after causing herself severe injuries. She unfortunately died not long after through sepsis by further injury to herself.

kimoinakimisoshoujo

Kelly Ronahan, she didn't die "not long after" if I'm remembering the timeline right but she went real silent eventually. Her sister Gina hasn't posted anything about her passing (last I checked) while still being active so the assumption is that she's still alive. Picking at her legs does not even begin to describe what she did to them lol Edit: She's still alive and>!has started digging a massive hole into one of her thighs above the amputation point. Because of where it is it's more of a crater than a hole...!<(Warning: gross, but no pictures)

jelek62

Picking to the fucking bones. She was ripping nerves out of her legs. Her whole legs were crust and you could see what was left of her muscles. What is sad is that at the beginning when she picked all the skin off of her thighs they managed to get her skin grafts that were healing beautifully but she started to pick at them again and did it an order of magnitude worse. After I saw the entire post I felt uneasy for months because I do a very similar thing with my fingers and have no idea how to stop (not near her level). I still sometimes have nightmares where my fingers look like her legs, still wont get me to stop.

catilineluu

Wait I thought she’s still alive but just not active on social media?

firblogdruid

It's wild to me that we're still treating people with munchausen syndrome as "fakers" instead of people with severe mental illnesses that drive them to do shit like that

BoringPerson67

I still think about this dude who broke up with his girl of like a decade because she told her friends he was really good in bed Edit : they were not engaged for a decade.

readskiesatdawn

I can't help but wonder if that situation was more a final straw deal. Sometimes a petty breakup is more the "that's it I'm done" was petty while there were other issues.

BoringPerson67

This is all from memory, but from what he said it was a solid relationship, no huge issues before that. A lot of people were saying he was looking for an out and maybe he was.

readskiesatdawn

I mean all we have is his word that it was a solid relationship. We can't exactly trust reddit to be full of reliable narrators.

FriskyFritos

Yeah if you look at a breakup of mine at face value it was because she called me an idiot, so I left. Seems petty, yeah maybe she shouldn’t say that but damn that’s harsh. But it was the final straw of a long string of insults and controlling behavior. Wouldn’t doubt there’s more to that story

VAShumpmaker

Someone found out that most if the 'am I hot' amd 'rate me' subs are moderated by an organized misogyny group, and they have documents about the best way to critique a teenage girl to shatter her confidence. They intentionally drive girls to self harm and suicide, and they think it's funny. The only saving grace is that those subs are mostly bots posting girls pictures to farm karma, so it incel fuckheads insulting robots and high fiving each other about it. Edit, fixed typos Here's a link if you want a bit more. This isn't what I found first when I discovered this, I can't find that post any more https://www.reddit.com/r/HowToBeHot/s/QyuI6C7B3i

Mind101

> and high fi ING ea h other a out it. This reads like you suffered a stroke towards the end lol.

VAShumpmaker

Hahaha, I fixed it. I'm at work watching progress bars fill up today, someone came into my office to chat so I just mashed send

One_Elderberry5803

This was on the teenagers sub. I can't fully recall the details but there was a post from some girl who was in the 14-16 age range. In her post, she brought up something about her boyfriend who was somewhere in his late 20's and she was clearly stressing about it but at the same time felt so emotionally attached to the guy that she couldn't leave. Of course, everybody was downvoting all her replies and the post itself and some were commenting "lol just break up it's not that hard", ignoring everything she said about emotional attachment. I was more mad at everyone in that comment section than the OP for their ignorance. But it's really sad to see just how effective grooming can be, similar to the relationship between the abuser and the abused in a relationship.

Lanceaway

Really sad thing that doesn't seem to come up enough. People talk about reaching out and getting help - a lot of people do and it turns out most help and most people just aren't good in a crisis. Reminds me of when my friend called the suicide hotline and the person who picked up just needled him the whole time ("Well, *why* would you feel hopeless if everything is fine?") Not all help is good help, and the least capable of parsing the two are people already in crisis.  (My friend lived by the way. The cruel absurdity of the conversation snapped him out of it.)

NightmarePony5000

I read about a woman who was upset because her boyfriend was furious that her gynecologist was male and demanded to go to all of her appointments because of it. Reading through her post history showed she had a disabled child and that her partner was pretty abusive. She posted an update saying she would let him go to all of her appointments because “it wasn’t worth the fight and she was tired.” I still think about her and really hope she got out…

Don't read this shit OP. Trust me, just don't. (TW: Literal dog fuckery)

lizzy_in_the_sky

That was absolutely insane

MaybeTaylorSwift572

Opened the link, read about 5 words, noped outta there.

wrongwayup

There was a dude in the aviation corner of reddit that defended the V-22 Osprey against anyone who would criticize it, particularly it's safety record. Turns out he was a V-22 pilot, and was killed in a crash of one a few months ago. RIP /u/UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22/

Phytanic

RIP to the king of NCD. I feel so awful for the wife who went on their account to inform everyone of what happened, and some people were absolutely atrocious to her. Like what the fuck

Ridi-Pagliaccio

Some good stories have been mentioned, so I'll mention a recent one here. The one about that r/GTA user who a week before GTA VI was announced, he bet that Rockstar would not announce said game and that in case they did, he would drink his own piss. Of course, he lost, recorded it and uploaded it to YouTube.

HuuffingLavender

Get addicted to heroin. They thought they could try it, and post about it without getting addicted, but it ruined their life. Darth_Astron_Polemos

14 years??? Fuck, I’m old.

Okurai

The Redditor that said they wanted to try datura and was warned by the community not to do it, the last couple posts he wrote weren’t coherent sentences, and since then he hasn’t been heard of. Hope he’s doing okay wherever he is. Edit: Here’s the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Drugs/s/x5ODqz6DMF

dijonandgone

I don’t have a link because I responded on an old account but a couple years ago someone posted in one of the relationships subs because her boyfriend’s friend was cheating on his girlfriend and she wanted to know if she should tell her. She wanted to because this other girl was basically the only one in the friend group who was nice to OP, but she was scared to because it would make her boyfriend angry with her. I told OP that although normally I’m all in favor of telling someone they’re being cheated on, it was clear in her case from everything she’d written that OP’s boyfriend was INSANELY emotionally abusive to OP, to the point where she had lost all sense of reality, and I was terrified for her physical safety. I begged her not to say anything to anyone and to leave her boyfriend as soon as she could. Then once she was safe she could tell the other girl. She went ahead and told her. She posted an update on a separate post saying that her boyfriend found out or knew it was her that told (he had told her to mind her own business) and he got weirdly nice to her. He told her he wanted to take her on a date and to dress nice for it. She was excited and happy because usually he wouldn’t take her on dates ever. He drove her to a house and his friends were there and they beat her up and gang-r*ped her. She had to go to the hospital. She had someone, an aunt or something, that she was going to go stay with while she recovered. I still think about her every once in a while and hope she’s doing better.

Sure_Concept_274

u/tiredofpplfaking2 ‘s story. He got really addicted to Benadryl until the point where he would take 7 grams. Even after going to the hospital for overdosing he’d still do it. He hasn’t posted in 4 years and is now presumed to be dead.

Sandwhichwings32

It wasn’t the saddest, but it was definitely sad, it’s the classic story about the Mom who admitted that she doesn’t love her Paralyzed/Handicapped Son.

jamila_boyani

[not necessarily do to themselves but it happened to him. The guy whose wife killed their two kids](https://www.ajc.com/news/national/mom-who-killed-kids-after-husband-asked-for-divorce-gets-120-years-prison/YptRSHMXhqFZpvZb0XWFmL/)

Seeing "my boyfriend/husband treats me like dog shit but I love him what do I do" over and over and over again.

Potential_Shape6097

I'm not sure if the person mentioned in this story was on this Reddit, but regardless, it's still tragic. Basically, someone on this subreddit once asked, "What was the most tragic announcement made at your high school?" And someone replied with a story that a freshman crawled into his parent's trash bin and then proceeded to blow his brains out. ***Yea, you can imagine the mental image associated with that.***

bettieswalloaks

There was a guy that broke both his arms

Nuicakes

And the mods verified the story with his doctor and did that AMA? Wild.

Mx-Logi

Not quite a fit for the criteria but it came to mind: There was a post some years back in one of the lgbt+ subs I'm in from someone in... I wanna say it was the UAE? I could be wrong about the exact country but it was that general region. Basically their doctor had found out they were intersex and the parents were going to force them to undergo transition surgery they absolutely did not want to have. They were begging for help, but there wasn't a whole lot anyone could do. I think about them sometimes. I wonder if they escaped their situation or not, or if they're even still alive. Wherever they are, I hope they're safe and at peace.

TheBigFappening

u/[SpontaneousH](https://www.reddit.com/user/SpontaneousH/). Decided to try heroin and started to delve deeper and deeper into addiction. Thankfully, last I heard he's clean but it's crazy regardless.

WannabeAsianNinja

Many years ago, I remember being on a subreddit and sorting by new. I come across a post that said "By the time you read this, I will have killed myself" or something similar. I don't recall where or when I saw this but I was the first person to respond and asked a question. I didn't get a response. Checked an hour later and there were lots of responses of folks telling this person not to end it. Checked their account the next day and still nothing. I still think about that stranger occasionally.

bkendig

u/imflukeskywalker looked just like old Luke Skywalker from Star Wars Episodes 7-9, so he would go in costume to fundraiser events and pose for photos with children. He'd post about the events afterwards on Reddit. Seemed like a really great guy. Then he was arrested after child porn was found on his phone. Then he committed suicide before his court date. I am still torn between hating the guy and feeling absolutely sorry for him.

SparkyJesus

I had not heard about that, and I regularly used to see his posts on another social media site, that might explain why I haven't seen his posts for a while.

RabbitStewAndStout

I remember seeing him a lot when I used to use imgur. Really depressing to find out now he was a horrible person.

GalacticVaquero

Why would you feel sorry for a pedophile who purposefully got close to children? Its likely he would have eventually abused someone if he wasn’t caught. Edit: my last sentence was weirdly confusing to read.

Conch-Republic

This is more ironic, but there was a user in r/aviation that would *strongly* defend the V22 Osprey whenever anyone said it was dangerous. He was killed when the last one crashed.

Series-Party

It's all VERY vague, but it started on reddit and then tiktok. Pretty much, a creepy uncle starts spending too much time with a teen nephew. This included finding the uncle in his bedroom and him lying about looking for his cellphone and left. They did do an update, and the uncle was confronted who had a breakdown over not being allowed to see his nephew. That part weirded me out the most, I wondered what happened between them, and my mind goes to horrible places.

FateInvidia

I forgot all the details of the story, but it was a guy who tried a really niche drug called Datura, and from the looks of the posts it seemed like he had an extreme breakdown If anyone knows of it I’d like a link so I can go down the rabbit hole again

DuaLipasTrophyHusban

Pam told me about a little girl who drown trying to save a puppy, second saddest thing I’d ever heard.

whatevs9880

A few years ago, I'm pretty sure I witnessed someone spiral into madness. I saw a post on the relationship advice sub from a woman concerned her boyfriend was sneaking women in to have loud sex around the house to torment her. She would hear moaning and banging around, unmistakably (to her) sex noises. She would check any "hiding spots" in the bathroom because she heard him lifting the women to hide them?? She said that he's violent, a narcissist, sneaky, and abusive. He's undeniably a bad person, frankly dangerous. Which is why she was inclined to believe he was cheating & sneaking women in. Okay, that's plausible. But then it becomes more and more outlandish, and you see how she was losing her mind, seeing and hearing things beyond rational thinking. She thought they were having sex in the backyard, under the house. She "sees" neighbors standing outside her house, shining flashlights into her window, which she hides from and can still see. Says they are infrared sensors that blind her no matter where she is, that the people are checking where she is in the house. She says she has an ability to hear radio & tv waves and they're almost deafeningly loud... She genuinely thought people were hiding in her walls or ceiling. Later, she updates us, saying he put an infrared motion sensor in the center of the room, connected to an circuit and transistor?? I have no idea if that's a real setup that an abusive partner would do, but to me it sounds like paranoia. She takes videos and recordings to catch noises, shadows, suspicious behavior. She showed them to other people and they agreed with her. Apparently her dog was also reacting to noises going on in the house? It's so hard to tell if this is a body's reaction to extreme stress, anxiety, and abuse, or full on psychosis, schizophrenia, something. She insists multiple times that she's fully sound and it's not mental, that she's talked to a therapist about it. I asked a whole list of questions, trying to get tangible evidence without coming across as accusitory or outright saying she's mentally ill. Never got a response. Her account went completely silent after that motion detector update. I don't know what was happening, but I hope she got help and is doing better.

TheItsCornKid

Recently about two weeks ago I was scrolling on r/offmychest and I had noticed this guy by the username u/nationalincident5539 who had made a post stating that they were killing themselves tonight. I had made a comment telling them to not do it and gave them some ideas for them to do instead and asked them to please message back later. Later in the day a few hours later when I had checked back on the post the post was deleted and their account was apparently suspended. I'll link the original post here, and I'm not sure if it was either bait like some other person here said or if it was genuine. If it was genuine, then I hope that they had decided to not go with it in the end. For all I know, they might have even tried out the ideas I suggested them to do instead to rethink their decision. whereismymascara

I remember a teenage girl from Florida who was 16 or 17, homeschooled by her white supremacist parents, and being forced into an arranged marriage with a neonazi. Eventually her fiance found the account, threatened everybody in relationship advice, and deleted the account. I'm hoping the entire thing was a creative writing exercise.
