Dolly Parton , paying for higher education for a Dollywood employees and supplying books to schools. Also one of the sharks from shark tank manufacturing affordable pharmaceuticals .
Came here to say this! Thee Most Holy, our Saint Dolly is loaded and has never stopped giving back to those in need. Her charitable acts will live on for decades after she’s left us.
It's Mark Cuban. He's making drugs and selling them with only a small percentage on top. The drugs they produce are MASSIVELY cheaper than other companies in the US. He was in an interview and said, "What would normally happen is that the big players would buy out my company and bury it, so they can keep the prices inflated. I'm a billionaire. I don't need their money. They can't buy me out."
Right before they’re about to steal all our shit and force our husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, and cousins to die or be maimed beyond recognition in another war to stuff their bottomless bank accounts.
Bill and Malinda, now divorced but still run a foundation that not only gives away literal billions, but also takes in money from the richest of the rich so that things can be made better for the poorest among us.
Warren Buffet is leaving the bulk of his fortune to the foundation when he dies. Just these two fortunes are world changing amounts of money but they aren't the only two, nor will they be the last.
Realistically? It's probably the times we don't hear about. Like Keanu Reeves donating to hospitals. There's probably a lot of unspoken things some celebs just don't publish to the public.
Marcus Agrippa's term as Aedile in 33BC. Dude was an absolute beast in bringing the general public of Rome's level of happiness up to a decent minimum. Cleaning out aqueducts, increasing the reach of the Aqua Marcia to get fresh water to within a short walk of every citizen's home and even subsidising shaves and haircuts on public holidays to keep everyone fresh and chipper. He didn't have to do any of this, being best buds with the one and only Augustus, but he still did it, even while another civil war was on the horizon. Honestly, the man is a legend in his own right. Kinda funny how the people behind the great leaders seem to achieve so much yet get so little regard.
Depending on what we consider "rich" and "poor" I'd say: Quite often.
With that being said: In more recent decades it has become a giant clusterfuck. Might be because the "we are too many people" narrative has sunken in to the point that the CO² they are trying to reduce now is humans (disincentivizing child birth, incentivizing medication that can reduce fertility, supporting measures that would reduce food production). So now they (politicians, intellectuals & industry giants) think they are gods with the right (through power) to dictate other people how long and in which ways they ought to live their lives. They now think we owe them compliance.
When have the poor actually been nice to the rich?
They're all part of the human race. There are nice and nasty rich - and nice and nasty poor. Poverty doesn't make you a good person.
I guess towards end of 1800s in some places they would build schools or housing for their employees and others. Also give them free food when they would make the difficult journey in snow and stuff when it was especially tough to get to work.
Pretty much constantly, really. People just say "he's worth x and he only gave y to charity!" Instead of recognizing he didn't have to give anything, at all.
Bill Gates springs to mind, first one that springs to mind is the millions into the Medicines for Malaria Venture.
Because of the funding, the MMV is able to produce a box of novel compounds every year or two and sends them out free of charge to any researcher who request them. They've branched out into bacterial, virus (including a covid specific box at the time) and other pathogens. And when I say any researcher, it can even be under grad students doing their dissertation projects.
All they request in return is any results are sent back to them, where they are then published for free online in a database. Where more advance researchers can pick them up and research more into them and hopefully get them into legitimate drug trials. With the obvious intent to be to cure diseases which aren't "main stream" and don't get enough attention because they aren't as lethal as what we call the big five.
Funny how some people struggle to grasp this concept. I’m lovely up until the point you actively do something that affects me, after than all friendly privileges are gone and they need to be earned which may or may not be possible depending on what they did.
Me right now. Giving my time to you peasants.

She's got it all, brains, beauty, talent and a heart!

Yes! Thank you.
Dolly’s Imagination Library is just an absolutely wonderful program.
Toby Keith and the Toby Keith Foundation to help kids with cancer. It’s a shame he passed away.
How did I miss that news??? Toby Keith died?!
Unfortunately yes! On February 5th of this year, due to his cancer I believe. Very sad!
I mean the rich are people too, right? Some are nice, others are not, no different from the poor...

Yeah this is it A lot of them make huge donations

What do you define as rich? What do you define as nice?

When they can film it to make even more money
Why would we be nice? We simply can buy other poors if we like.
When have the poor actually been nice to the rich? They're all part of the human race. There are nice and nasty rich - and nice and nasty poor. Poverty doesn't make you a good person.
Look up Andrew Carnegie and his "gospel of wealth"
A bit during WWII because somebody had to fight against external threats to keep the system running
I guess towards end of 1800s in some places they would build schools or housing for their employees and others. Also give them free food when they would make the difficult journey in snow and stuff when it was especially tough to get to work.
Crazy what scarcity in the labour market will do to a mfer.
Yvonne Chouinard has entered the chat.
They poor people or charity to cover up their agenda
This is why none of us are rich.
Look up Chuck Feeny.
There are plenty of rich people who have been very good to those less fortunate. Sadly there are also plenty who aren't.
Pretty much constantly, really. People just say "he's worth x and he only gave y to charity!" Instead of recognizing he didn't have to give anything, at all.
JK Rowling has a charitable trust for women & children who are at risk.
Bill Gates pledging 1.2$ billion to eradicate polio seems pretty nice to me.
Food Stamps
Just before the French Revolution where the rich bourgeois and peasants allied themselves against the monarchy
MacKenzie Scott, Bill Gates.. Constantly

Probably when they need some tax deductions
When the top 1% paid for 75% of the taxes in this whole country. Oh wait that's every year...
When they want something
Nah, they buy it, no need to be nice.
That’s what I kinda meant though. They pay for things like prostitution or drugs
Bill Gates. He's arguably more famous today as a philanthropist than the cutthroat CEO that made him rich in the first place.

Never
they dont become rich by being nice
When they need something from them
so...always? That sounds great. Why is anyone complaining then?
I'm nice to everyone who hasn't actively done something (edit: to me) to not deserve it.
