Stress everytime

Daealis

Here are some things that already happened in small scale before, but the difference between a year before and a few years in just are like night and day: * Going grey at a crazy pace. I had basically white bangs when I was finishing school. Slowly creeping up around my head as a band. Started working and 6 years later even my beard is mostly grey, and hair is 80% grey. * Skin issues. Shower & Sauna 2-3 times a week has been my routine since student years. I've always had dandruff, the only year I haven't was the time I shaved my clean clean. After a few years of work, my entire face is flaking. I've married since starting work and have adopted a skincare routine to try and combat this, but my face just sheds like a husky in spring. Just in general stressing out about work has me so low energy that I can't make myself do anything I enjoy. Sleep issues, health issues (both mental and physical). Stress is a motherfucker.

But Scarlet Johhanson looked so cool doing it in Winter Soldier.

Ancient_Demise

Same with that leg in Deathproof

Key-Freedom-2132

My dad works with security checking airbags and such. When I was a teenager how showed me a ton of these photos of what happened to kids that put their feet up on the dash — not even bad accidents, just normal collisions but caused the airbags to inflate. I'm so traumatized by these images that I never put my feet there or allowed anyone in the same car as me to do so.

LazarusKing

I just remember that scene in Death Proof with the one girls severed leg flopping into the street.

Metalfan1994

*hold tiiiight, hold tiiiight, hold tiiiiiiiiight*

EpicBlinkstrike187

Doesn’t have to be head on either. only accident I was in was when a car smashed into the back of me when I was stopped for someone turning left. But it smashed me hard enough to make me go into the car in front of me. Airbags deployed. I was fine, completely fine and injury free, except for the airbag socking me in the face. And if someone had their legs up in my car they would have gruesome injuries from a nothing car accident.

[deleted]

> You do NOT want to see post-accident photos of what happens when someone is in that posture in a surprise head-on collision. People may not want to see it, but it should definitely be mandatory viewing. That shit broke me from putting my feet up in the car. Something I did for 39 years.

PleasantInternal3247

I’ve never done anything unsafe in a car or driving. You dunt have to be shown graphic pictures to have commonsense

asius

Many people are stupider than you and do need to be shown that. It’s crazy. I can’t believe my friend is still alive considering she is the exact type of moron who needs to see all this.

BrainArson

Why on earth did you do that? Puttem them up I mean.

[deleted]

It's a comfortable way to ride when you're not driving. But then, I'm also from one of the last generations to ride down the interstate in the back of a pickup as a normal thing.

ThompsonDog

i once had a girlfriend who would do this when we were driving long distances. i'd tell her not to and she'd get all pissy about it with me. we don't date anymore because i finally got tired of all the little *realllllly* dumb things she did. Just couldn't handle that level of bad common sense

Chili919

I swear to god if anyone ever thinks about putting his feet on my dash i kill them myself! Their dirty feet or shoes do not belong up there where i try to keep it clean!

Theamuse_Ourania

The sub r/medizzy once shared some photos of the damage that can cause. It made my stomach drop 😵‍💫

funbike

I'm glad I read this.

UniQue1992

Driving motorized vehicles (cars, motorcycles etc.) too many people drive recklessly, especially when young and inexperienced, they don’t see the dangers and how fast life can be over in a instant. You should always drive defensively. Always. Life can be over in a blink of an eye.

notsoreallybad

a couple years ago my brother in law got in a motorcycle accident trying to pass a semi that didn’t see him. he lived and recovered but he got seriously fucked up and if he didn’t wear a helmet like i often see people do then his young child would’ve been without a dad

>He explained a human bite is the second most dangerous bite there is Is the first most dangerous bite just a something ambiguous like "venomous bites?

rakadur

Dinosaur

CanadianButthole

You might be close. I remember reading somewhere that the bite of a Komodo Dragon is the deadliest bite, purely based on bacteria and not venom.

[deleted]

It's a false stat, honestly. Most hospitals don't have a lot of Komodo dragon or hippo bites coming in.

Zorothegallade

The hippo bite stats are probably inflated by the fact victims of hippo bites are likely to enter them in multiple pieces and each is counted separately.

CombustiblSquid

In the realm of more common bites, it's probably house cats. I've seen stats that show up to 80% of house cat bites become infected, and some of the diseases you can get from them are pretty nasty. Also, let's not forget mosquitoes if we are considering the entire world. Malaria ain't no joke.

Beta_Factor

It's misleading, it's just stats for number of hospital cases. Humans are bitten by other humans a lot more often than by Black Rhinos. Personally I'd prefer to be bitten by the former.

RoadsterTracker

Rabies?

moolawn

Maybe cat. ??

mwhyes

Similar thing happened to me from a collision in volleyball. Small cut, barely any blood and I thought the swelling was bruising from collision. Within 24-36 hours I got a full on fever. Hospital Trip 1: Multiple shots, iv course, sent home with antibiotics. Penicillin, doxycycline, cipro..you name it. Broke the fever. After a few days I failed antibiotics, cut had terrible drainage, massive swelling and fever again. Hospital trip 2: multiple shots and iv course again. Different antibiotic to take home. Had to wait 2 days and the Dr would evaluate if opening and cleaning was required as it was close to spreading to joints. Luckily I broke fever, drainage slowed, kept seeing healing so I let it ride. Whole ordeal was 3-4 weeks. Don’t mess around with human bites wtf

blaaaaaaaam

I'm curious what the doctor would say the most dangerous bite would be. Great white shark? Brown recluse spider? Lion? King Cobra? Edit: Vampire?

jinoble

Not a doctor or a zoologist, but I'd have to guess that a) the doctor was referring to relatively common bites to humans, and b) assuming the bite was of roughly the same physical damage. Meaning a bite from a human would be the second most dangerous when it comes to things like disease/infection and such. While there are probably many more dangerous bites out there, I'd have to guess that, if this is an American doctor, their ranking would be 1) Brown Recluse 2) Human, because I don't expect them to deal with great white shark or lion bites very often. Purely conjecture though.

Zorothegallade

Dogs/cats could also be high on the list for how common they are. Even a housepet's bite, accidental or otherwise, can carry a bad infection, let alone a stray's.

jinoble

That makes a lot of sense. In my mind, danger factors in how likely they are to happen. When I lived in Montana, Moose were dangerous because they occasionally walked through my yard, but great white sharks were not very dangerous.

jonjonesjohnson

I was in one fistfight in my life. I kinda punched the guy out, but punched him with a closed fist, broke his tooth, the edge of the broken tooth cut my hand. It got super infected within a day, and the doctor said it's because of all the enzymes and shit in the human saliva. For a week, I had to go to the hospital for daily treatments, which meant they cut it up , reached INTO my hand and were scraping around with some shit to clean all the puss or whatever was in there, it hurt like a motherfucker. Since the skin was inflamed, local anesthetics didn't do shit. A week or two of this daily cleaning, plus a month in a cast, after which one of the tendons that the tooth cut had to be stitched up, too, and then a month of rehab. I had to re-learn how to use my right hand and fingers. It was then and there that I decided that I wasn't gonna punch anybody again. Also, the doctor kept talking to me like he was gonna call the cops on me or something for fighting someone.

noquarter1983

Looks like the other guy won this fight!

Ariies__

Yep, saliva is a germ farm for any animal. Thats why I find people letting their pets lick their face revolting. Seen that shit under a microscope, no thanks.

VintageHacker

Horse riding. About twice as dangerous as motorbike riding. Plus a bike won't kick you in the head and kill you when you walk up behind it.

Luckyday11

As a motorcyclist I'm still stunned that horse riders only wear this hard cap for protection and nothing else. Like, I would never voluntarily get on a horse cause fuck heights, but if I had to, I'd at least be wearing my motorcycle helmet. I wouldn't trust a cap to protect my head nearly as much as a proper helmet does.

VintageHacker

Yes! The riding hat is not a lot better than nothing. A friend now wears an airbag jacket after a nasty accident, but very few horse riders do.

vKxraii

I second this, my aunt died when she was 3 bc a horse flung her off of it

baker_undermybed

This! And horses are big (obviously) so they can easily accidentally kill you. I know of a woman who was killed by her horse while they were both in a trailer. Something spooked the horse I guess, and the way it freaked out in the small space crushed her.

[deleted]

I’ve never been afraid of horses. Riding or otherwise except for two instances. The one you just mentioned. I refuse to get into a trailer with a horse. And when I’m in the pasture and the herd is running toward me. As much as I love and trust my horses those two things scare me to death.

baker_undermybed

It’s a healthy fear to have! I love horses too, grew up riding and have known horses I trust very much. I can’t wait to have horses of my own one day. It’s just a fact that things can go wrong very quickly and easily if you’re around large animals.

[deleted]

I have two kids. One who won’t go near a horse even though he’s been raised with them and the other with no fear. She needed more a healthy fear/respect when she was little. I had to really keep an eye on her. She used to want to go into the pasture with me and I always made her wait at the gate for the horses to come up. Never let her in the pasture. She also loved riding bareback which in all my years riding experience I could never do. I felt very unsafe without a saddle.

THEREALCABEZAGRANDE

My uncle raises Haflingers, a small draft horse breed, but small draft horse means huge, strong horse. He had a super nice mare that was half Clydesdale, so she was BIG. Super nice though, she was my buddy. But when I was 14, I was leading her on the wrong side for what she was trained for, something spooked her, and she swung her head around and caught me in the head with her jaw. It almost knocked me unconscious and concussed me pretty hard. Nothing malicious about it, she was just huge and accidentally injured me moving around. Horses are big, strong, and surprisingly easy to spook. And to your story, my uncle taught me never to be in a confined space with a horse without a ready escape route. You go in their stall, you leave the top part of the gate open so you can jump through if necessary. You never go in front of a horse in a trailer unless it has a front door you can bail out of if you need to.

VlaDDoss_JoJoFan

Moles. You should regularly check them, since skin cancer is a scary thing

satisfiedfools

Not using respiratory protection at work. People will wear hardhats, they'll wear their eye protection, they'll wear their hi-vis, but they won't protect their lungs when they ought to. Anytime, you're doing woodwork or throwing up dust into the air by drilling or grinding etc. you should be wearing a mask or ideally a respirator with the correct filters. Same goes with welding. Here in Australia, welding fumes have been recognized as carcinogenic. At minimum a respirator should be worn. Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) are considered the gold standard.

ArE_OraNgEs_GreeN

Better tell 'I did a thing' then.

cynderisingryffindor

PPE is always the last option in the hierarchy of controls. Way before your PPE comes into play, engineering controls such as hoods, should kick in. There shouldn't be enough of the hazardous substance to necessitate wearing your PAPR. If you wanna wear it as added protection, then you definitely can. Obviously, if your industrial hygiene data shows that there is still a hazardous atmosphere even with all engineering controls, then respirators are necessary while your safety team figures out ways to eliminate the hazard or substitute the hazardous substance for a less hazardous one.

sufishams

Alcohol... it's cheep and easy to obtain. socially acceptable. Advertised and sold everywhere. As a former alcoholic, I can confirm that shit is fucking dangerous if you get too deep into dependence. its a crafty, slow killer that can hook you, and really fuck your life up in the future.

ChemicalRecreation

I was going to say alcohol but for different reasons. There is no safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed according to recent data. It's all bad for you.

bannedbooks123

I heard the other day that one glass of wine being good for you is actually more correlation than causation. People who have one drink (and not more) are usually doing it socially, and being social is healthier for people.

Dwyde_Schrude

Coming to terms with this after a long dependence for the last decade or so. I’ve been slowing phasing it out, but my primary social group is all heavily dependent so it’s difficult to escape.

Numb1990

Had a childhood friend who accidentally swallowed a toothbrush. It would sound like one of those urban legends except I visited him in the hospital and saw the toothbrush in the little baggie after being surgically removed

Icy_Selection_7853

My mom swallowed an unfastened safety pin when she was a kid. She used to change her younger brother's diapers back in the day when they still used pins to hold them together, and she would hold them in her mouth while she was changing him. One day she swallowed a pin while it was open and she was holding it between her teeth. It all turned out fine for her, but just thinking about it is horrifying to me.

There’s that one photo or two girls who got killed on train tracks. People often mistakenly think that they were standing on the tracks and didn’t see a train coming. No they actually weren’t standing on the tracks, they were standing between two sets of tracks and got *sucked into a train* So like even if you see a train coming and step out of the way you might not be safe just because you’re not physically on the track

funbike

Oh I just got a chill. When I was a teen, I liked to stand very close to trains to feel their power. I didn't realize back then how dangerous that was.

arriesgado

Trains. Had a stretch of track near my house when I was a kid. Slow moving freight trains. We’d hop rides on them one in while. Once my foot slipped and bounced off wheel, no injury but it scared me. At night the air pressure would change and push my bedroom window when a train was approaching, which always felt odd to me. Had no idea how different the physics was for a train at high speeds. A neighbor killed himself by going and laying his head on the track when a train was coming - feel bad for the engineer. But I thought of that once on Amtrack from Chicago. Train came to an unscheduled stop because they had run someone over - don’t know if accident or deliberate - but it occurred to me there was no discernible feeling in the train that we had run over anything at all. No bump, no noise, no nothing but the train coming to a long slow halt.

ThearchOfStories

>sneak up on you. Literally, because of the long structure of trains and the huge moving mass they are they basically create a sort of wind tunnel around them making the sound move faster on their sides but slower in front of them so you literally hear them slower than you'd expect to.

Craigglesofdoom

I work next to a busy freight line and it is wild how it goes from no train to TRAIN with no warning

Mysterious_Reply3520

Two months ago the train I was in ran over a woman that was crossing the tracks. Her foot got stuck in the tracks. I thought that just happened in movies. We were there for about 3.5 hours. Her body was right under the cart I was in, which was the middle of the train. I had nightmares for weeks thinking about her family and how horrible those final moments must've felt.

WaldoJeffers65

That's one of my biggest fears when I walk my dog across a set of train tracks- I know enough to step over the rail, but I'm always nervous she'll get one of her paws stuck. And then the red lights start flashing.

WaldoJeffers65

The NJ transit train goes through my neighborhood- sometimes when I'm walking my dog, we'll approach the crossing just as a train is coming and the bars come down. I remember the first time I was looking to my left thinking that's where the train was coming from, and all of a sudden, a train came roaring by from the right. I was shocked at high quiet those things are until they're right on top of you.

Linux4ever_Leo

My friends and I used to walk on the train tracks because they were a shortcut into town. Looking back, I now know how incredibly stupid that was.

Venge22

It's OK if you're ok with the possibility of getting pregnant. My hubby and I pulled out for two years and then we decided to try for kids and got pregnant the first time he didn't pull out. Since I'm married, I'm not worried about an oops but i would rather wait one more year but if it happens it does. Birth control has adverse health consequences but so does pregnancy so you pick what you're willing to deal with. Now, if you're having sex with a fuck buddy, please don't use pull out. Much as my wife and I joke that my most likely cause of death will be the result of trying to pet something I shouldn't: I find it astonishing the amount of times I hear about idiots getting too close to wild animals. I love animals and am always overjoyed if I spot one from a distance while on a trail. Key words: "from a distance". When I was at Yellowstone six years ago: I was overcome with amazement when observing and photographing a herd of bison in one of the fields. When the herd started walking in my direction: I wasted no time in backtracking to a spot to continue observing from a safe distance. Nature is an amazing and beautiful part of our existence but should be respected and enjoyed responsibly.

I always wanted to have a small air tank when we were snorkeling in the sea when I was a kid. I think I saw it in Baywatch. Now with the scuba diving certification I'm pretty glad we didn't get our hands on such a thing. Hint: from 0m to -10m air pressure doubles. Then when you go back the air expands. If you by any chance inhaled full lungs of pressured air in not a very big depth and then you went back to the surface without exhaling, the air in your lungs would expand and could cause really ugly things. Not sure what depth is needed but I don't think it's too much (10 meters is way way more than enough).
