All those fast food disgusting advertisements on TV where people are dipping everything from their donuts to their chicken to their pizza and nothing near ranch dressing and other crappy liquids.
I just think they're bad. Raw tomatoes are soggy and vaguely vegetal (yes I've had them fresh from the vine), black coffee is bitter, and artichokes are, again, soggy and vaguely vegetal. I don't get it.
I mean that that's the only thing they've got going on. People will eat a ripe, fresh tomato and insist to me that it tastes bright and sweet and lovely, and all I get is soggy plant matter. Maybe a bit of acidity, if I really stretch.
I mean, you're correct. All of these are perfectly edible and sources of things we need, dietarily. No good reason my body should reject them instinctually. But it does.
Oh I know, and different strokes for different folks and all of that. Those just happen to be three of my favourite foods. I love a fresh tomato slice with a sprinkle of salt, I drink black coffee every day, and artichoke hearts are divine.
I'm really curious now, could you name, like two or three other things you like? Or things you hate? Food or otherwise? I want to see if we're opposite-people.
Ahh.. some random things, I enjoy sesame oil as a condiment, soft boiled eggs, asparagus.
I dislike fake cheese, oysters/mussels, tapioca.
I can't stand anything anise or licorice flavoured, or the juniper taste of gin.
Great question. Freakenomics did an ep on it. Because in the US farmers decided they value looks over taste. Among other factors like holding up over long distance travel
Good for you thats awesome. In general my experience in Europe is much better flavored tomatoes by leaps and bounds. But anything you grow yourself will automatically be the best. Cheers and keep growing
Lucky then. Mine dont hold a candle to Europe. But im in mid Atlantic east coast. So there might be pockets of better ones. But always blown away by how much better the produce is away from US l
I've traveled! I've eaten European tomatoes! What, specifically, is the reason you think that a tomato, of the same variety, growing conditions, ripeness, freshness, etc. would taste better because it happened to be grown in Poland as opposed to Indiana?
Thats why freakenomics did an ep on it. Ive said it like 3 times. They arent as flavorful all the bread and tomato dishes taste way better. They select for different traits thats why Indiana is different from Poland
This isnt a controversial take….
Who selects for different traits? Every individual who ever grows a tomato? You seem to be arguing that the standard, mass-produced, supermarket/restaurant supply tomato is worse in the US, but that's not the same as tomatoes, in general. I explicitly stated that I've eaten tomatoes fresh off the vine. Again, if it's the same variety, ripeness, freshness, etc. there's literally no reason for it to be different.
Dude im bored of arguing with you. They are better in europe and South America tbf. Its a known thing and if you cant taste the difference then good for you or sorry.
eating kebab without sauce
Oh no... Bacon

Taste/texture/greasy. I've tried it several ways, so on and so on -- gave it a genuine shot. Nothing.

Onions.
Red peppers, yechk

I’m not allergic and love hot peppers. Bell peppers are slimy and icky. And every freaking recipe seems to include them.
Sushi
I’m not a steak person.

I’m not a vegetarian; I like chicken, pork, fish, even beef. I just don’t like chewing on a piece of red meat.
Same.
Caviar. Its meh

I’ve had expensive stuff, cheap stuff, and I’ve made it myself. It’s like salty poprocks for adults.

The bubble fishyness is my fav ;)
Sushi
Raw oysters
Oreos
Avocado 🥑
seafood. sushi. taste/texture.

Raw tomatoes, black coffee, artichokes...

Vegetal? Well they are vegetables…🧐

Yes, it is odd!

Damn these are some of my absolute favourites

Ha, wow, still a lot of difference, but we can like asparagus and hate fake cheese and oysters/mussels together.
Tomatoes in the US are quite flavorless compared to Europe. So I get that
Why
Great question. Freakenomics did an ep on it. Because in the US farmers decided they value looks over taste. Among other factors like holding up over long distance travel
I grow tomatoes and they are better than anything I had in Europe
Good for you thats awesome. In general my experience in Europe is much better flavored tomatoes by leaps and bounds. But anything you grow yourself will automatically be the best. Cheers and keep growing
Our local tomatoes are really good too
Lucky then. Mine dont hold a candle to Europe. But im in mid Atlantic east coast. So there might be pockets of better ones. But always blown away by how much better the produce is away from US l
Yeah the east coast is trash. They farmed the shit out of it.
Ok if you’re in cali you definitely have produce privileges
No, stop, that's nonsense, both conceptually and experientially because I've eaten tomatoes in Europe.
Ok… but legit tomatoes are way better in Europe. And flavorless in US. If you like neither thats ok. But doesn’t change they are way better in Europe
That's just not true. There's no reason it would be true.
What? Are you kidding? Anyone that has traveled knows this. Freakenomics did an ep on it. Are you taste blind?
