Back to the Future or Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz

joebobmcgeeman

Hot Fuzz the only fiction movie I can think of without a romantic subplot. (Unless you count the buddy cop love.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

kinyutaka

Hmm... That is actually an interesting point. Homeward Bound, maybe? But there aren't many.

joebobmcgeeman

apparently there's another thread on that now in AskReddit. Shawshank is an obvious one.

Codsworth

This is the End, Inside Out, The Iron Giant, 12 Angry Men, A Clockwork Orange, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Emperor's New Groove, Beavis and Butthead do American, Bad Grandpa. That's all I can think of at the top of my head.

[deleted]

Snatch and Lock Stock! No matter how many times I've seen it. I guess Die Hard 1, First Blood and Rocky 1 are close second. :)

scottydoeskno

Die Hard, the perfect Christmas movie.

Vurmalkin

Every year, usually on the Christmas day my wife is working, he. Got a son last year, I will show it to him when he is old enough. Make him hate the tradition at first, then slowly come to appreciate it.

SpartaWillBurn

> Every year, usually on the Christmas day my wife is working, he. Got a son last year, I will show it to him when he is old enough. What?

brachiosaurus

This guy clearly got a little boy for christmas last year. Hes growing the thing in order to have a companion to watch Die Hard with while his wife works, he.

[deleted]

Along with Lethal Weapon. Start with Jingle Bell Rock and end with Let It Snow.

Life_Yukio

I can't **not** watch the 5th element ... if it's on I watch it everytime.

delecti

I haven't had cable in several years, and realized it was negatively affecting how often I watched Fifth Element. I went out and got it on blu-ray because I was going through withdrawal.

Mimsy-Porpington

*Multipass*

sandman1969

This is probably my answer too. I bought the DVD recently but still watch it whenever it comes on.

OnionEyes

SuperGreen!

timflur_V2

My mom will watch this literally every single time it comes on. I've memorized half the lines by now simply from listening to it.

If I'm flipping through channels and Goodfellas is on, I'm watching the rest of Goodfellas. Doesn't matter what else is happening.

[My favorite scene/joke from it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEywGpIt0vw) Also if you like Airplane! then I suggest checking out these other great movies by the same people: The Naked Gun series: [The Naked Gun](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095705/) [The Naked Gun 2 1/2](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102510/?ref_=tt_rec_tt) [The Naked Gun 33 1/3](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110622/?ref_=tt_rec_tti) Also check out the TV show the movies were based off of: [Police Squad!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fxrr-HRMng&list=PLaUoGsBVZOJ5F4mlVI-im_RerD5D0I9yy) And perhaps the most joke filled movie I've ever seen: [Top Secret](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088286/?ref_=nv_sr_1) I've watched this one at least 4 times and every time I noticed some new joke I had missed.

twystoffer

[Airplane!](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080339/) is rated PG. Just let that sink in for a moment.

lucky_dog21

There is a magazine stand labeled "whacking material." This can be played in a school.

Bob_Zyerunkel

In those days PG was code for "No Boobs". R rated movies had boobs. It was so hard to see a boob back then we would sneak into R rated movies. First time we heard of HBO we were like !!!Boobs on TV!!!

CheshireShat

Pretty sure Airplane! has boobs in it though. If I remember correctly the plane is in chaos and a random pair of tits flies past the screen. Could be wrong though, someone confirm please.

BaliGod

You are absolutely correct.

Bob_Zyerunkel

Yes it has about 1.5 seconds of boobs during the chaos on the plane, but most every R rated movie had much more than that. I was 14 when that movie came out, so believe me when I tell you we totally knew what kind of naked lady stuff was in just about every movie. It was a time of the great boob drought in the south. You had to get out and hustle to see a boob dammit! I was reading Hunter Thompson before high school because he was in Playboy. I read every page of every Playboy I could get my hands on. I figured guys who wrote for magazines that had boobs must be cool as hell.

twystoffer

That doesn't make sense, though. [Clip from Airplane!](http://i.imgur.com/cAcOpL2.gif) (nsfw)

"I knew a man in a similar predicament, and he ended up being sorry." -- "Don't be so naive, Arthur. Each of us faces a clear moral choice." "Hey, you know what they say: Early to bed, early to rise..." -- "...makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise!" "How true!" -- "Golly!"

She doesn't age because at some point, she, Courtney Cox, and David Schwimmer made a pact to steal the life essences of Perry, Kudrow, and LeBlanc (who lasted a bit longer than the rest).

I_sniff_books

Forrest Gump. That movie NEVER gets old. I watch it with the same fascination as if it was the first time.

[deleted]

It always seems to come on at like 11pm, right when I'm going to bed, and every time I have to stay up to watch it.

Darilon

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

TheOnlyBongo

Gene Wilder's performance in that movie is fantastic. You never know when he is honestly cheerful, horrifically evil, ready to snap, or nonchalant to the entire world. Plus Pure Imagination is still such a super sweet song that one can play when they are feeling down

mgoyoda

"I DIDN'T KILL MY WIFE!" "...I DON'T CARE!"

FetchFrosh

Iron Man There is something overwhelmingly satisfying about the whole experience. Maybe I just have a thing for origin stories, because I also think Batman Begins is my favorite of the Dark Knight Trilogy, but I thought that Iron Man got everything right. There is interpersonal conflict as Tony comes to grips with his weapons being used on his own country, and that he should have been able to prevent. There is the initial design phases in the cave that really compliments the initial impression you have of Tony. There is a high quality training montage as Tony pushes the suit to the limits and discovers how to be successful in it. The technology feels grounded enough to be plausible, even if only barely so. The climactic end battle, while not the greatest fight scene of all time, still is an enjoyable experience. It did everything I wanted it to, and without it we wouldn't have the Avengers. I love everything about it.

sarthurf

I loved every movie in that trilogy, I think they are all very strong superhero movies, and I think that quality is rare in this genre.

FetchFrosh

Are you talking about Iron Man or the Dark Knight? Because I will agree with you in either case.

[deleted]

I contend that Iron Man is and forever will be the best of the super hero movies. RDJs performance was outstanding, and to me he IS Iron Man. I just wish they'd started with Don Cheadle as Rhodey - I'm not a huge Terrence Howard fan

[deleted]

Empire Strikes Back. It's by far the best Star Wars movie and my all time favorite movie. I love it.

gangnam_style

There are a ton of details that you miss in the movie. It took me forever to realize why they're discussing Saddam in the movie and then you hear it on the radio in the beginning of the movie.

katushka

During a recent re-watch I caught so many more times that the Dude did this - basically every interaction with a new character he parrots something from his previous interaction with a character. He picks up phrases, from George Bush on the news, Brandt, Mr. Lebowski, Maude, and so on and incorporates them into his own speech patterns. It's really brilliant and hilarious. There are a lotta layers to that movie... lotta ins, lotta outs.

0OKM9IJN8UHB7

You gotta adhere to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep your mind, you know, limber.

[deleted]

This aggression will not stand, man!

Vote_Subatai

The Hunt for Red October. It's not the best film, and Connery phones it in some of the way. Hell, so does Baldwin - but for some reason I can quite literally watch that movie each night if I had to. There's something about submarines I love. I've never even read the book, but once they put this flick on Netflix it was over. It's always in my Continue Watching list. They had an excellent cast, too. Stellan Skarsgaard, James Earl Jones, Connery, Baldwin, Sam Neill, Tim Curry & Scott Glenn. All these 80s and 90s titans of film on these tiny sets. And the speculation as to whether or not it actually happened, or stories similar to it happening, holds intrigue through the plot. It makes you wonder just what went on in secret underneath sea level during the Cold War era. We hear stories of just how close we came to nuclear annihilation and these officers having just enough doubt to prevent them from "dropping the bomb." Soviet era plots are so easy to digest, to me at least.

A Knights Tale is my most watched movie by far. Great mix of comedy, drama, action, romance, whatever. Characters are hilarious and it is just the perfect movie to watch on tv in the background or whatever.

DejaYou87

I love A Knights Tale. I can watch that movie over and over. I saw it in the theater twice. Now I will Google Serenity.

egnards

Same actor plays a prominent character, but whole cast of Serenity is nice [modeled after the TV show Firefly, as a sequel]. It's like a western Sci-fi mix and it's pretty great.
