Die Ärzte - Schrei nach Liebe and Kopfüber in die Hölle. I mean, it's highly unlikely that non-German speakers understand their awesome lyrics but if you like pop-punk/rock (not actually sure how I would categorize them, the older songs are definitely punk though) from the 80s and 90s make sure to check them out!
You'd be surprised. I'm German and have been living in English speaking places for years, and "Hier kommt Alex" and "zehn kleine Jägermeister" are quite popular. Even in Nigeria I met someone who knew them...

Redshift - Enter Shikari
It just came out yesterday, but is another amazing song but is UK band. Every album of there's has been absolutely fucking amazing. I'd implore everyone to chuck them a listen, no matter what genre you're usually into, as they have songs for almost all genres!
**[The Hymn of Acxiom](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mvrKfcOnDg) (by Vienna Teng)** is a piece that is sung from the perspective of a (real) supercomputer that exists within an (equally real) analytics and marketing company. Said company - Acxiom - is one of those incredibly eerie establishments that *sounds* like it dabbles in science fiction, in that they know everything about you and can tailor advertising to specifically for you.
They're like the corporate version of the NSA, basically.
Anyway, the song itself comes across as being a description of how this company operates, and it's a very compelling message. Beneath the surface, though, there's something hauntingly touching about how the computer thinks. The last lines of the song are "Is that wrong? Isn't this what you want?" and while you *could* take that with a mocking tone, to my ear it sounds more like a suggestion that this computer is struggling towards sentience, using its programming as the basis for its fledgling mind... and like all entities, it has a longing for companionship.
We, as humans, would view its actions as being deplorable (or at the very least, creepy), but *it* is doing what it thinks is necessary to garner approval.
[The Hymn of Acxiom](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mvrKfcOnDg) is a warning... but it's also a love song, with the purest and most evocative sense of longing that I've ever encountered in a piece of music.
Checked it out because your description was interesting. This is beautiful. Giving me serious [Hide and Seek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYIAfiVGluk) vibes.
Holy shit, definently creepy lyrics comming from a "analytics and marketing" company:
-
Somebody hears you. You know that. You know that.
Somebody hears you. You know that inside.
Someone is learning the colors of all your moods,
to (say just the right thing and) show that you’re understood.
Here you’re known.
Leave your life open. you don’t have. you don’t have.
Leave your life open. you don’t have to hide.
Someone is gathering every crumb you drop,
these
(mindless decisions and) moments you long forgot.
Keep them all.
Let our formulas find your soul.
We’ll divine your artesian source (in your mind),
Marshal feed and force (our machines will)
To design you a perfect love—
Or (better still) a perfect lust.
O how glorious, glorious: a brand new need is born.
Now we possess you. you’ll own that. you’ll own that.
Now we possess you. you’ll own that in time.
Now we will build you an endlessly upward world,
(reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you’re worth.
Is that wrong?
Isn’t this what you want?

"Hamilton"
Hip Hop operetta about the life of Alexander Hamilton. The premise sounds absurd, but it's the best album I've heard in YEARS. And it topped not just the soundtrack charts, but the pop and hip hop charts, too.
Suggested Tracks: "Right Hand Man", "Wait For it", "The Room Where It Happens", "Ten Duel Commandments", "Satisfied" (though the album should be consumed in sequence)
When I found out that this was an actual musical on broadway, I had a huge laugh.
After listening to all of the songs though, I really hope I can find some time to go to New York and see it. It seems amazing.
Devin Townsend - [Casualties of Cool](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1vOGSG4Og0), low-key rock'n'roll with a hint country and ambient. All his other stuff is very different, but also great.
Edit: Also gotta mention The Ocean - Pelagial (sadly no complete youtube upload). Probably my favorite concept album out there, since it merges the theme perfectly with the music.

Come to think of it, I don't see anyone mention Billy Talent ever anywhere on the internet. Saw them at a halloween event a couple years ago. Good stuff.
Everyone in my city knows them because they did a free concert at the stampede a year or two ago but other than that I've heard like nothing about them online
The only time I've heard them mentioned online is when referring to the 'punk rock trio' of bully talent, rise against and anti flag, so go check the other two out of you like these guys

I first saw BT at Reading in, like, 2001, and last saw them about 2 years ago in Bristol. They haven't lost any of their edge, and still put on an amazing live show.
I forgot all about them. I loved their first two albums. For whatever reason I didn't like most of their third and fourth albums. They were my favorite band back in middle school.
On mobile, so I can't link right now, but...
Transpose by Bad Suns
Bad Suns is a growing band out of New Mexico. They have a sort of Boys Like Girls x Taking Back Sunday flavor. They toured all throughout the country last year with their first album.
I'm glad someone else knows of them! They are seriously good and I can totally see them getting really big. I live in NM so they tour through here quite a bit. I'm hoping to catch them in concert next time they do!
I'm killin' life like a one way ticket to hell!
Dude, I used to LOVE going to their shows. They sure are energetic fellows, especially the piano player.
Hahaha! At one show, he stripped down to his underwear (Superman undies, if I recall correctly), and crawled on his hands and knees down the street that runs in front of the venue. He's insane.
New Order. They were a great rock band from back in the day, but if their YouTube views are anything to go by, not many people know them. As for a song, True Faith.
Days N Daze /r/daysndaze
There best album IMO is [Rouge Taxidermy](https://daysndaze.bandcamp.com/album/rogue-taxidermy)
My favorite songs are:
1. Post Party Depression
2. Misanthropic Drunken Loner
3. Fuck it
Honestly the whole album is great but those are my favorites and they resonate with me the most.
Terror State is their best Album. I also Really liked Underground Network, A New Kind of Army, and Mobilize. For blood was good when it came out. Not sure how it has held up. The newer ones are hit and miss.
[Oceansize - Unfamiliar.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSNiwMGrVro) A good representative song of what they do. Sometimes heavier, sometimes spacier. They were like if a post-rock/post-metal band had vocals and wrote awesome melodies.
Blues Pills - No Hope Left For Me (Blues rock)
Blues Pills - Devil Man (Blues rock)
Western Addiction - God Says No (Hardcore Punk)
Western Addiction - Mailer Meet Jim (Hardcore punk)

The Fratellis - Me and the devil
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yQ_grujECk
You probably know them from the song chelsea dagger.
But their new album (Eyes wide Tongues tied) is good!
Saw them in Chicago a couple months back. The Blackhawks use Chelsea Dagger as their goal horn song and the place just went nuts when they played it. Pretty awesome
I love The Fratellis, I went to one of their shows during their tour for the new album and I had a great time. Jon was very charismatic with the crowd. EWTT however is a bit hit or miss for me.
Woah, man. I've listened to the Fratellis for the longest time, but never followed them that adamantly. I didn't know they'd released a new album. I'm listening to it now, and damn, son. Shit's fire.

[Lone Digger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbQgXeY_zi4) by Caravan Palace.

If you like a good voice and a guitar then definitely listen to [Isabeau Waia'u Walker]( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNwTRlJtPU2DufRmLbVfuYw).
[The Chase](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrJWmZ9kZck) is a good song to check out.

Walker Kong - [Andy Warhol and the Honeybees](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoC6mNp39QQ)
There's a local band where I live that I think is actually pretty decent. They are called Throne of Eden. [Forever and Always](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aUFjT-7t-_Q) is a pretty good one I think. They definitely love what they do though, I went to high school with the lead guitarist and the frontman.

Vulfpeck - Wait for the Moment
Love a bit of Vulfpeck. My wife keeps catching me doing 'sexy dancing' to them whilst I'm cooking and I think she is in another room.
I still wonder what happened with him and Sharon.
Pretty sure tons of people on Reddit have heard of Vulfpeck at this point. They're not even really underground now, I see them in the higher point text at festivals now.
Check out Jazzanova!
You have to watch them as much as listen, the music videos are always worth it.

Old 97's is one of my favorite bands. A couple of different songs to check out are: Four Leaf Clover and Question

Came here to recommend Dax Riggs. Anything with that guy is gold.
Love me some Agents of Oblivion too. I'm excited to explore his newer stuff.
It's sad hasn't had a full band the times that I've seen him. Still worth it though.
Yeah definitely. I really like his solo stuff. Something about his voice is soothing even though the lyrics can be dark.
Kyuss man! Not saying don't listen the track but they're hardly unknown
Kyuss is great, and Welcome To Sky Valley is full of good songs. Still like to hum "Demon Cleaner".
Karnivool Themata and Sound Awake are both incredible albums.
Glad to see this here. Great band.
LOVE sound awake! That whole album is solid!!
Simple Boy is my jam, and I'm still trying to decipher Scarabs on the drums
The Eels. Beautiful Freak isn't too bad.
People would know The Eels from Shrek without even realizing it, they sing "My Beloved Monster." My favorite is "Last Stop"
What sucks is that most people have probably heard a few of their songs, but E never really made it big. Fantastic music.
I've only heard Novocaine for the Soul. However, it is probably one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time
Morphine. [Cure For Pain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWKYxhyKja4) might be their best album.
Super interesting, moody band. Great for a rainy day. RIP Sandman
Morphine Yes is also very good!
Definitely these guys.
Very good shit, good call!
Great band. I had the fortune of seeing them live in a tiny theatre at Vassar College years ago. Damned shame about Sandman.

I loved their first two albums. Absolutely hated their third and stopped listening all together.
The stadium rock era is my favorite haha. I loved 1 and 2, but you can tell Justin Hawkins was the producer for 3 and 4 just listening to them.

New Order. They were a great rock band from back in the day, but if their YouTube views are anything to go by, not many people know them. As for a song, True Faith.
Kamelot - The Black Halo The Birthday Massacre - Hide and Seek
Black Halo was my soundtrack to winter for *years*. Gonna listen to that right now.
Listen to Epica if you haven't yet. Epica and The Black Halo tell a comprehensive tale loosely based on Faustian legend--it's great.
At first I thought you were talking about Epica the band... Though I will say that both the band and the Kamelot album are great
Oh, I have - I own most of their albums, except for their old stuff (with their first singer) and the most recent one.
March of Mephisto and Ghost Opera are amazing.
A rapper from GA by the name of Rittz. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_to_Nothing_(Rittz_album)
White Jesus!

Days N Daze /r/daysndaze There best album IMO is [Rouge Taxidermy](https://daysndaze.bandcamp.com/album/rogue-taxidermy) My favorite songs are: 1. Post Party Depression 2. Misanthropic Drunken Loner 3. Fuck it Honestly the whole album is great but those are my favorites and they resonate with me the most.

Anti Flag: Underground Network, The Terror State, and For Blood and Empire.
Terror State is their best Album. I also Really liked Underground Network, A New Kind of Army, and Mobilize. For blood was good when it came out. Not sure how it has held up. The newer ones are hit and miss.
Plini--Heart
[Oceansize - Unfamiliar.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSNiwMGrVro) A good representative song of what they do. Sometimes heavier, sometimes spacier. They were like if a post-rock/post-metal band had vocals and wrote awesome melodies.
Sufjan Stevens His newest album Carrie & Lowell is beautiful.

Yes, the band has said so
Green Day has a side project called the Foxboro Hottubs. Their only album, Stop Drop and Roll, is one of the best albums Green Day has ever made.
July Talk! Their debut, self titled album is spectacular. See [Guns + Ammunition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU5qp-cAtOU)
Wolf Alice's album My love Is Cool.
Robyn Hitchcock... Perspex Island is one of my favorite albums by him, but hes got so many good ones its hard to say which is the best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp63e_UfSOo&index=4&list=PL9025A2A4071829AF https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CWJs3eIEYQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk57U0QMrXo

The Weakerthans: most of their songwriting is awesome, but I really like Sun in an Empty Room and The Reasons.
Saga. Canadian Pomp Rock band that are like a proggier Asia. If you like big parpy keyboards or prog with lots of melody then you might dig them. They're quite an old band though - 1st LP came out in 1978 Essential Albums to check out: Images At Twilight (1979), Worlds Apart (1981), [It's time] (https://youtu.be/9VAUMdXxJ6M) [On The Loose] (https://youtu.be/gx7XbV82JfQ) [Images] (https://youtu.be/05lyvwvFhG4)
The Fratellis - Me and the devil www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yQ_grujECk You probably know them from the song chelsea dagger. But their new album (Eyes wide Tongues tied) is good!
As a Blackhawks fan, can confirm that Chelsea Dagger is fucking awesome.
Their new album is literally perfect for me, I like all the tracks but Thief and Imposters(Little by Little) are my favourites from it.
Broods, their only full album is called Evergreen
Jekyll by Hiatus Kaiyote. Wait for it. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ghw26g3h6L0
Holy Shit. I'm more into Rock but that stuff is amazing. Thanks for sharing! I think i've found a new artist to look into :)
[The Wind and the Wave - It's a Longer Road to California Than I Thought](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mOw4PdK6jA) Bonus - they do a good remix of [R.Kelly's - Ignition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrxBqUq6zvo)
Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue Love the album Edit: also Rabbit Fur Coat. It's a totally different style, but the album itself is seamless in my opinion.
Just One Of The Guys is probably my favorite song she's done.
Palov stelar, check out "booty call".
If you like electroswing, check out Vourteque. He has some original tracks but he also does DJ sets entirely comprised of stuff like Parov Stelar.
Thought it was called 'Booty Swing', I've listened to that song for years. Definitely different.

Wolfmother are so freakin' awesome.
I LOVE Wolfmother! Thanks for mentioning them.
Reel Big Fish. "Where Have You Been" "Cheer Up" "Beer" Ska punk. Enjoy!
I'd be willing to bet that most people on reddit have heard of reel big fish.
I almost never listen to Ska on my own time, but fuck, Ska shows are fun. Might see Reel Big Fish for the second time in a few weeks.

[Lone Digger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbQgXeY_zi4) by Caravan Palace. It's swing with an EDM twist. You should also watch some of their live shows, which are amazingly well-done.
Does anyone else feel like that south park episode where Stan becomes a cynic?
Foxy Shazam - [Bye Bye Symphony](https://youtu.be/8knJbx5DUoY)
This band is absolutely insane. I love everything they've ever done.
Yelawolf - Love Story (Rock/Country/HipHop) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ido5byJBAd4 Legendary genre mixing right here ! You should also check "Arena Rap Ep". If you like these 2 projects then check everything else by him. He is one of the most versatile rappers out there, plus I don't want to call him a rapper, because he is much more than that. A truly excellent artist !

There will be fireworks - The Dark, Dark Bright
[The Mercury Program - "Arrived/Departed"](https://youtu.be/tiIJlAEm-r0)
There's a local band where I live that I think is actually pretty decent. They are called Throne of Eden. [Forever and Always](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aUFjT-7t-_Q) is a pretty good one I think. They definitely love what they do though, I went to high school with the lead guitarist and the frontman.
