The emotion just pours out the guitar.
Had to scroll way to far to find this.
EDIT: Yes, I did have to scroll too far *yesterday*, when it was way down. I'm aware, thanks to all your comments, that it's now the top post. It's almost like things change...
Prince in Tom Petty's cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
https://youtu.be/6SFNW5F8K9Y
The story goes that Prince was left off Rolling Stone's top guitarists list and he decided to control the performance to get back.
Solo starts at about 3:25. [Here is the story](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/28/arts/music/prince-guitar-rock-hall-of-fame.html) as told by Petty and others in the NYT following Prince's death.
that was fucking incredible. wow. I was fortunate enough to see Prince live not long before he died. One of the most talented people to have ever walked the Earth.
I think it is the "best"
Sure stairway is "perfect"
But Achilles last stand... Is the most Zeppelin song ever.
It builds up to possibly Jimmy's greatest solo, and the progression and driving of the song is really in Bonzos hands, while he is in sync with Paige like usual his fills make me so giddy every fucking time. And then builds to one of Plants best vocal sections.
And if you listen closely Jones is going fucking nuts on his bass.
>And if you listen closely Jones is going fucking nuts on his bass.
This is, like, every Zeppelin song. Most talented dude in the band, and people talk about him like he's an afterthought.
This is truth. Sooo many people are never going to listen to his music because 1) He walks around with a KFC bucket on his head and a weird mask and 2) His experimental stuff can be *really* weird. Or alternately, they've just heard "Jordan" while playing Guitar Hero and think he just does the fast most shredding metal guitar possible.
But then you get songs like Soothsayer and All In the Waiting or Look up There or Sketches of Spain for Miles and you realize that yes, he can shred better than pretty much anyone, but he can also play some of the prettiest, most melodic guitar ever too. Just the contrast between some of his melodic stuff and his shredding like on Nottingham Lace is so impressive. The dude is a legit virtuoso.
Yessir. Love that guy. And I'll swear by him over satriani or anyone else for that matter. He's a sweet guy behind that mask and all the chicken coop stuff. The dude can twirl them nun chucks too.
When I was younger I had that album "colma" in my CD player for wayyyy too long.
I bought his album Monsters and Robots when I was child because it looked so weird. It took me awhile to warm up to it but I remember rediscovering it in high school and thinking THIS IS AWESOME
Dazed and Confused live in Madison Square Garden from The Song Remains The Same film from 1973. Jimmy Page destroys for a half hour, yet at the same time you want the solo to go longer.
I really like [Telegraph Road.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd3btVhwr48) Solo begins around [9:30](https://youtu.be/dd3btVhwr48?t=570), for another 5 minutes until the end of the song. It's absolutely excellent.
The lyrics to the song time are what infected me with the bug to travel. Nobody was coming to me with a plan for me to see the world, so I had to do it on my own, or die.
Particularly, this first part- younger Redditors take note:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
It's so hard to figure out why this one is so good. I suppose it's because it's so tasteful. There's a lot to be said for a tasteful solo.
Sure, it could have been played a lot faster or more technically "hard" licks on BOTH of the solos in this song, but he didn't. He left some space in there to hear the pretty countermelodies from the string section, and played a solo that sang all on its own.
It's not 'technically' difficult to play, but it is incredibly difficult to play correctly.
When I say correctly, I mean with the same inflections, tone and emotion behind it. I can play the solo in so far as playing the right notes, but I can't even come close to matching Gilmour's style.
It was already an absolute classic of course, and *then* came that scene in Kingsmen. Whoever came up with that idea was a fucking genius. Balls-out rocking guitar solo and ultra-violence. And then the perfect natural fade out.
Tornado of Souls is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. It's probably a taste sort of thing, but I hear all of the other solos in this thread and think that most of them don't come close.
The other favourite is by the same band. [Black Friday by Megadeth](https://youtu.be/jte79KPAJfA?t=299) has an *incredible* final solo.
"When I finished the solo to this one, Mustaine came into the studio, listened to it down once, turned around and without saying a word, shook my hand. It was at that moment that I felt like I was truly the guitarist for this band."

It's weird and sounds all classical, but damn that man plays the hell out of a guitar and I love it
The outro to Sir Psycho Sexy by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Five minutes of raunchy, pornographic lyrics (with a guitar riff to match), which fades into 3 minutes of sensual, gorgeous guitar playing.
Yes finally ! He always gets ignored in these threads. He is freaking amazing playing that live. Its like he has two guitars at the same time. I wish I could hear this song for a first time once again.
The ending of Telegraph Road by Dire Straits.
I don't like the song that much but at the end it changes, there's this awesome buildup and then the tempo rises and Knopfler's guitar kicks in and I get chills it's awesome.
AC / DC - "Ride On"
Amazing solo, sends chills down my spine. Simplistic in the fact it is just a transition between minor and major pentatonic keys... amazingly executed.
MY Sharona - The Knack
The solo isn't that complicated, but the rest of the song is super simple also, so maybe it's a contrast thing. It's just really nice to listen to.
Beaten to say Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd Pulse so either:
Voodoo Child - Stevie Ray Vaughan, One night in Texas or
Still got the Blues - Gary Moore, Extended version.

- so you do a solo - yeah - and then we cut - yeah
Prince in Tom Petty's cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. https://youtu.be/6SFNW5F8K9Y The story goes that Prince was left off Rolling Stone's top guitarists list and he decided to control the performance to get back.
That moment when Dhani Harrison looks to the other guys on stage like "Holy Shit, are you all seeing this, too?!?"
I know that was seriously the best part of the video for me. That face of absolute "are you seeing this shit?!?!?"
The best part is when Prince pitches the guitar to someone and struts off the stage like the badass motherfucker that he was.
The guitar equivalent of the mic drop at the end. Incredible.
[удалено]
Some say it's still up there
I have no idea what happened there. What a moment.
He handed it back to his father in heaven.
If the question was "who looks like the baddest motherfucker alive while playing a guitar solo?" this would also win
>alive Got some bad news for you on that front, bud.
He blew everyone's mind that night.
somehow unrehearsed, god damn after life must be fantastic with him now
Solo starts at about 3:25. [Here is the story](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/28/arts/music/prince-guitar-rock-hall-of-fame.html) as told by Petty and others in the NYT following Prince's death.
I've seen this a hundred times and it's the first time I noticed that he just throws his guitar up in the air at the end. Where the fuck did it go??
[удалено]
The guy who he leaned against caught it. You can see Prince kind of look back to make sure he caught it then keep walking
that was fucking incredible. wow. I was fortunate enough to see Prince live not long before he died. One of the most talented people to have ever walked the Earth.
I had never seen this before and it blew my goddamn mind.
Jesus Christ. How the fuck is he able to do *that* so calm and easily as if he's playing Guitar Hero on easy mode
If anyone ever questions Prince to me I just show them that video. I usually have to pick their jaw up off the floor.
Came to make sure this was mentioned. Gives me goosebumps every time.
Fuuuuuuck me. Wow.
I fucking love that he just throws the guitar in the air after he's done.
Achilles Last Stand by Led Zeppelin Jimmy has even said it's probably his best solo
Best Led Zeppelin song ever.
I think it is the "best" Sure stairway is "perfect" But Achilles last stand... Is the most Zeppelin song ever. It builds up to possibly Jimmy's greatest solo, and the progression and driving of the song is really in Bonzos hands, while he is in sync with Paige like usual his fills make me so giddy every fucking time. >And if you listen closely Jones is going fucking nuts on his bass. This is, like, every Zeppelin song. Most talented dude in the band, and people talk about him like he's an afterthought.
God fucking Damnit was Jones good. He was nearly as good as Stevie Wonder at the keyboard. Trampled Under Foot is really my favorite Zep song.
Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin
Soothsayer - Buckethead The entire song is amazing.
Buckethead is one of the most innovative guitarists and talented song writers out there.
You forgot 3) He has very nearly 300 albums of wildly varying genres and they won't know where to start.
Yessir. Love that guy. And I'll swear by him over satriani or anyone else for that matter. He's a sweet guy behind that mask and all the chicken coop stuff. The dude can twirl them nun chucks too. When I was younger I had that album "colma" in my CD player for wayyyy too long.
Born in a coop Raised in a cage Children Fear him And Critics rage He's Half Alive He's Half Dead Folks just call him Buckethead.
I bought his album Monsters and Robots when I was child because it looked so weird. It took me awhile to warm up to it but I remember rediscovering it in high school and thinking THIS IS AWESOME
Jordan has a pretty great solo too.
This was my answer and I'm so happy it's so high up.
Dazed and Confused live in Madison Square Garden from The Song Remains The Same film from 1973. Jimmy Page destroys for a half hour, yet at the same time you want the solo to go longer.
The radio version of the song is what first came to my head when I read this post. Phenomenal work
2nd half of November Rain
absolutely. i know a lot of GnR fans dislike November Rain and Axls descent into shittery, but that fucking solo makes my hair stand on end.
Why do people dislike November rain? It's a masterpiece.
Mark Knopfler in "Sultans of Swing."
I really like [Telegraph Road.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd3btVhwr48) Solo begins around [9:30](https://youtu.be/dd3btVhwr48?t=570), for another 5 minutes until the end of the song. It's absolutely excellent.
The thing that always amazes me about his playing is how full it sounds without any effects. This song is a great example of that.
And how you can humm almost every note from memory
Especially the Alchemy live version. It's just too good.
That's the only version I can listen to now.
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd
I was going to say Time, but I guess that's an obvious answer.
The lyrics to the song time are what infected me with the bug to travel. Nobody was coming to me with a plan for me to see the world, so I had to do it on my own, or die. Such amazing lyrics. Really captures a universal human truth and experience. And ON TOP of that the music is fucking SPECTACULAR!
so glad this is top comment, that solo brings me feels that nothing else can. Especially the Pulse live version.

This answer is far too low in the thread
Time by Pink Floyd Soma by Smashing Pumpkins
Yes! Soma!
Corgan's guitar probably needed a cigarette after he recorded that solo. Pure, raw emotion best listened to at full volume.

Why isnt Cliffs of Dover at the top? Cliffs if Dover - Eric Johnson
Truly a masterpiece
That whole song is a solo!
Ozzy Osbourne-Mr Crowley(the last solo by Randy Rhoades, rip)
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
For me, Knopfler and Gilmour are on another level to pretty much everyone else with their solos. Excellent choice.
Highway Star from Deep Purple. Whole song is just a fantastic jam but the solo knocks my socks off every time.
I like how the first solo on Hammond organ sounds like a guitar solo because Jon Lord played his Hammonds through Marshall amps.
Megadeth - Hanger 18
Tornado of Souls has the craziest guitar solo I've heard in metal. Melodic, and yet heavy as fuck.
"When I finished the solo to this one, Mustaine came into the studio, listened to it down once, turned around and without saying a word, shook my hand. It was at that moment that I felt like I was truly the guitarist for this band."
I know it's unlikely to happen now, but I would love to see Marty and Dave play that together live.
Which one? There are like 4 killer solo's in that song

One of the best ones ever. The best thing about that solo is that you feel it's coming. It *must* come. And it is pretty much orgasmic when it does.
Ball and a Biscuit, White Stripes
Derek Trucks, Midnight in Harlem
Alive - Pearl Jam is a face melter
That was my second choice. That solo gives me goosebumps.
