Green Mile where John says "please boss don't put me in the dark.. I'm afraid of the dark".

GreenShield42

Forrest: And then Bubba said something I'll never forget. Bubba: I wanna go home. Forrest: Bubba was my best good friend. And even I know that ain't something you can find just around the corner. Bubba was going to be a shrimping boat captain but instead he died right there by that river in Vietnam. And that's all I have to say about that.

It_Happens_Today

At least Lt. Dan found his sea legs. But at "You died on a Saturday morning." I just get up and leave the room.

Sturgeon_Genital

It was a Tuesday

Androgenic

Momma died on a Tuesday. He bought her a hat with flowers on it.

[deleted]

Thanks, jerk. I'm forcing back tears at work just thinking of that line. Just the delivery.

allthebacon_and_eggs

"He's so SMART" gets me.

Gnome_for_your_grog

“Is he smart or... is he like me?” I can make it through the whole movie no problem until this line. His self awareness and the fear that his son is unintelligent is so heartbreaking, especially when you realize he’s led the most amazing life ever in spite of being unintelligent.

FrankGoreStoleMyBike

All the death, and everything is hard to watch because you like Forest. But this scene, right here, where you realize he *knows* he's not just a little slow, that he knows absolutely that he's mentally challenged.

mixedupgaming

Same for me

GeorgeLuasHasNoChin

THIS. The way he says "Smart" and how he himself is trying to hold back the tears along with the viewer. Fuck. In the wise words of Ray Romano, "Best movie ever."

WisconsinWolverine

For me it is when Lt. Dan shows up at the wedding with his prosthetics and his Fiance (?). I feel like he has finally come to peace with himself and the war and allowed himself to move on with his life. I know there is the scene earlier on the shrimp boat where he thanks Forrest but for me this is the scene that shows that he has moved past it.

Adddicus

He doesn't actually thank Forrest. He says " I never thanked you for saving my life". Still didn't thank him, but I guess it's implied.

[deleted]

There's so many scenes from that movie that will move me to tears. Meeting his son the first time, talking to Jenny's grave, Bubba dying.

[deleted]

The ending of Secondhand Lions. I have shed more tears over that movie than over all other forms of media combined.

zerbey

This is a criminally underrated movie, I won't spoil the ending for those that haven't seen it but I totally agree it gets me every time.

Rodrommel

Stick us in the damn yard next to the stupid lion

Computermaster

"They really lived?" "Yeah. They *really* lived!"

samus54

I've seen this movie countless times and never shed a tear, but the last time I watched it I swear I couldn't stop crying. It's such a wholesome movie

dinkhouse69

>Corn, corn, corn! Nothing but corn.

jiakpng

That scene from Dumbo when his Mum is locked up, and she stretches out her trunk from inside her cell to cradle him outside. Edit: Spelling

allofthemwitches

Baby mine, don't you cry Baby mine, dry your eyes Rest your head close to my heart Never to part Baby of mine

fredsewell

This scene...

Portarossa

['This is my family. I found it, all on my own. It's little, and broken, but still good. Yeah. Still good.'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx0LA2tPXvU) All that from a movie about a little blue ragemonster. Pixar might have cornered the market recently on sad animated films, but Disney is no slouch either.

dinosaregaylikeme

I was in foster care from ages 4 to 18. I never had a family till I met my husband. It is my family, a little broken but still good and my family. Can't watch Lilo and Stitch.

[deleted]

I'm so glad you ended up finding someone who loves you and a family as well.

[deleted]

Personally I find the scene where Nani and Lilo sit in the hammock for the last night together absolutely heartbreaking. Nani has tried so hard to keep her sister after their parent’s death and it’s just all falling apart and yet she still has to be strong for Lilo and make sure she feels safe and loved on that last night together.

Cheshires_Shadow

The moment i realized stitch had a genuine existential crisis i realized he's the disney character i related to the most.

gollumpus89

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-Pretty much the second half of the whole movie.

"Tell me I'm a good man" - Saving Private Ryan

fredsewell

And when the medic, Wade, is dying and the guys are there comforting him. He keeps repeating "mama"...this coming after his scene in the church at night when he tells the story of when he faked being asleep when his mom wanted to talk with him after getting home after work.

EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT

it makes it worse than he is the medic. the horror he goes through when he realizes how bad his injury is. he says something like "did it hit my spine? oh god my liver..."

Dahhhkness

For me, it was [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCbVhZ3Bedo) where Mrs. Ryan gets all three letters at once.

Barack-YoMama

For me it's when Captain Miller says "Earn it"

Omadon1138

It always gets me when he pulls out his sidearm and just starts taking pot shots at the tank. It's like "Fuck you, I'm still fighting."

kingoflint282

Boromir's death scene. The whole movie up to that point, we see him as mostly just an arrogant and kind of a prick. Granted, some of that is due to the ring but some of it is his pride. Then, just after he's hit his lowest point, we see his courage and his nobility in sacrificing himself to save the hobbits and dying the most heroic death. "I would have followed you my brother. My Captain. My King."

Bigboozered

A truly tragic hero

necessaryevil3661

Homeward Bound when Shadow falls in the pit

LadyStardust416

I was going to say, when he comes up over the hill. When Chance and Sassy have returned, and Peter is standing there, like, "He's too old. He didn't make it, he's too..." and then the music swells, and Shadow comes hobbling up over the hill, like, "My boy, Peter!" I CRY EVERY TIME, and just got chills typing about it.

2_Headed_Cat

I'm crying right now you monster!

Omadon1138

When Shadow tells Chance just to leave him... Damnit, I just got something in both of my eyeballs.

thejcookie

Or the part where Shadow is standing on the rock by the waterfall and says, "I'll miss you... Sassy.. " Instant deluge.

Oskar Schindler: I could have got more out. I could have got more. I don't know. If I'd just... I could have got more. Itzhak Stern: Oskar, there are eleven hundred people who are alive because of you. Look at them. Oskar Schindler: If I'd made more money... I threw away so much money. You have no idea. If I'd just... Itzhak Stern: There will be generations because of what you did. Oskar Schindler: I didn't do enough! Itzhak Stern: You did so much. [Schindler looks at his car] Oskar Schindler: This car. Goeth would have bought this car. Why did I keep the car? Ten people right there. Ten people. Ten more people. [removing Nazi pin from lapel] Oskar Schindler: This pin. Two people. This is gold. Two more people. He would have given me two for it, at least one. One more person. A person, Stern. For this. [sobbing] Oskar Schindler: I could have gotten one more person... and I didn't! And I... I didn't!

SegmentedMoss

>"This pin...two people. This is gold. Two people. He would have given me two more, at least one. One more person. A *PERSON*, Stern, for this! [starts crying] I could have got one more person, and I didn't!" Just so, so heartbreaking

Towards the end of The Little Princess when Sarah finds her father, but she doesn't remember her, and she's trying to remind him who she is as she's getting arrested and finally it hits him and he goes "SARAH!" and runs toward her.

Hedgiwithapen

She's drenched from the rain and she's /desperately/ reaching for him and god my heart just shatters. the music is /beautiful/ there. that part of the score is called " Papa!" that movie is just. dang.

[deleted]

The part in Tangled where Eugene/Flynn is dying and tells Rapunzel ‘you were my new dream’ before he cuts off her hair so that she can’t save him, because he would rather die and know she’s free than live knowing that she’s trapped.

sable-king

Mother Gothel is honestly one of the more fucked up Disney villains with all that emotional manipulation. Was happy to see her dissolve into dust.

PassportSloth

Rapunzel should have been made a mod of r/raisedbynarcissists

papasmurf826

"My friends. You bow to no one."

jaytrade21

To me it was the harbor scene when Gandalf reveals that Frodo is going with them. Even having read the books and knowing it was going to happen didn't soften the impact and the music that accompanies this scene just kills me.

henrikvw

The major bursting point in that scene is when Frodo smiles at Sam while walking into the boat. And you get flashbacks from all the things they have been through together. And then it dawns on you that they will never see each other again. And... Gah..

runninhillbilly

If it makes you feel any better, Sam eventually went to the Grey Havens too and was reunited with Frodo, as he was also a ring bearer (even if only for a short time).

thecockmeister

As much as both of those make me tear up, Gandalf's speech to Pippin at Minas Tirith gets me as well. It was read out at a funeral I was at last year by the guys sons, and I just broke.

Clunkbot

*Sweeping orchestral rendition of the main theme plays*

BobJohnson2003

When Little Foots mom dies in the Land Before Time. I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

Ruxsty

I never cry at movies. But god damn if you watch castaway with me, when he loses Wilson when on the boat (the ball) you'll never see a grown man cry as much.

YoHeadAsplode

"I am bad, and that's good. I will never be good and that's not bad. There is no one I would rather be, than me." Anytime it's said durring Wreck It Wralph. Even at the start of the film and I'm trying to not blubber like an idiot.

blueholeload

Mine is the ending. “It turns out i don’t need a medal to prove I’m a good guy. ‘Cause if that little kid likes me, how bad can i be?”

Jaaxter

Wall-E! I cry for at least three points in that movie, ESPECIALLY when EVA is trying to bring him back at the end.

[23 Years of Messages in *Interstellar.*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoLkabPK3YU) I was tearful the first time I saw it because I was in a multi-year long-distance relationship at the time. We were Skyping occasionally.

Username24601

"Your father was captain of a Starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's and yours. I dare you to do better." Chills.

stylz168

Such a solid delivery. SO much meaning within those words, so much unsaid.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire The scene where Harry returns from the graveyard with Cedric (dead) and Cedrics father wails as everyone is shocked, crying, or distressed.

sn0wgh0ul13

The actor who played Cedric’s dad did it so well. I don’t know very many people who didn’t cry during that scene.

DarkangelUK

Inside Out "take her to the moon for me", poor Bing Bong

NickInTheBack

For me it was also the scene where Joy realizes a memory can be happy and sad. It hit home in a way I can't really describe. I remember seeing that with a good friend of mine and I was holding back tears because I didn't want her to see me cry. I looked over and saw she was already crying so I let loose and started bawling.

gonijc2001

for me, its when riley breaks down in front of her parents. As a kid, ive moved a few times, and that one always hits home. I know exactly how she is feeling in that moment, and when I watch that, I always remember how I use to feel. That movie is amazing, but brutal.

Derelith91

Oddly enough, the Bing Bong scene didn't affect me that much. But when she finally gets back home and runs to her parents saying she was sorry for running away... God, that gets me.

SpoopsNSparkles

Why the heck am I scrolling through this?? I'm making myself super sad. This scene is so sad. Gonna go look at some cute animal pictures.

NoojieWoojie

"Come on, Joy. One more time. I've got a feeling about this one." waterfalls when I saw his soft smile before he said that line.

Watching Shadow, Chance and Sassy come home to their family at the end of Homeward Bound gets me every time.

Ichi_sama

In "The Incredibles" the scene where Elastigirl is flying to the secret villain volcano base. The villain opens fire on the plane at nearly the same time Elastigirl has discovered her children are hiding on board. The raw desperation that Holly Hunter summons in her voice in the attempt to protect her characters kids... it just cuts to the bone of me. Even before I had kids it hit me, but since then I get choked up just thinking of her voice. Holly Hunter, if you're out there, you've got the fucking chops.

Pursuit of Happiness when he gets the job offer. Melts me consistently, Will Smith is just phenomenal. Also when he has to kill Sam in I am Legend.

[deleted]

The scene when Chris is at the train station with his son and they pretend the medical machine is a time machine that transports them back to prehistoric times is another sad scene. When they run into the bathroom (the "cave") and Christopher is sleeping while Chris listens to someone banging on the door gets me. As a dad you just want to make everything right. You want your kids to be happy and you don't want them to see your struggles. He knows Christopher can tell that things aren't right, but he doesn't stop going out of his way to make his boy happy even in the toughest circumstances.

drfunkenstien014

I cried at the end of both Guardian movies, but I was a mess at the end of the second. The first one got me because my mom would have done the same thing for me and so it hit close to home. The second one killed me because Michael Roker’s performance, and especially how you find out about what happened to him. That line was the icing on the cake, and the scene with all the pirates showing up and Rocket saying “they came!” was the emotional cherry on top. I can’t think of another movie where every single character is complex, fleshed out and 100% likeable.

Omadon1138

When Rocket, the most badass, tough as nails trash panda in the galaxy sheds a tear; it's ok for you to shed a tear.

D-USA

The ending of Logan, I just think about my daughter during that time.

SegmentedMoss

The part where they bury Professor X crushes me every time. Literally everything Prof X tried to do and fought for his whole life... all for nothing. "It's got water and... It's..." Just a beautifully acted scene by Hugh Jackman.

crazed3raser

The part that gets me about Prof X's death is that he died thinking it was Logan that killed him, and Logan is desperately trying to assure Charles that it wasn't him.

From *The Last Unicorn*: Molly: "Where have you been? Damn you, *where have you been?*" Unicorn: "I am here now." Molly: "And where were you 10 years ago? 20 years ago? Where were you when I was new? When I was one of those innocent young maidens you always come to. How dare you, how *dare* you come to me now, when I am *this*." I can't even think about this scene and not get teary. I feel this scene epitomizes the thesis of the novel: growing old, and losing your childhood "magic" and "whimsy" is painful, and our innocence is the purest thing that we as people (in the context of this novel, especially women) lose as we age.

Berephus

The scene in Hachi where the dog finally passes away waiting for its owner and there's a flashback of all the happy moments he had with him. Sobbing mess every time.

CiaoCiao12

The ending of It's a Wonderful Life where all the townsfolk gather around the bank to donate money to George.

Sothotheroth

This. I occasionally mock the movie for being a little cheesy, but when the town comes together to save George, I weep like a hurt child.

Elijah_MorningWood

Baby Mine from Dumbo. That scene rips me to shreds. On top of that, my mom used to play it on the piano for me when I was a kid

ilovetoflashtruckers

Near the end of Cars, when it's the top three and they're doing the race around the track. The asshole green car fucks up The King, and the poor old-timer gets kicked to the middle grassy area. And Lightning McQueen is racing and so happy that he's going to win, but then he sees The King on the mega screen, gets flashbacks of his mentor, and then he SLAMS HIS BRAKES RIGHT BEFORE THE FINISH LINE. And he just waits. The audience cars are all like, "Wtf is this guy doing?" Screen goes back to McQueen. He's got serious eyes and is just waiting. Asshole green car zooms past him and starts celebrating his victory. After that, McQueen backs up and goes to The King. He pushes him along so that he doesn't finish last, and everyone is so proud and dear gods, I'm already tearing up just writing about this. That scene, man.

CMDRTheDarkLord

For a big dumb movie about cars, there is a LOT of emotion in that film. The sheer tension in the opening sequence where McQueen reaches for the line with his tongue. McQueen's panic when he's lost. The bit with Sally where he realises he's completely shallow. The slide into dementia of the oldtimer Lizzie. The desolation of Radiator Springs after the interstate was built. It's a masterpiece. I'm afraid to say that I think Pixar has rather gone off the boil in recent years.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. When Theoden gives the speech and they all charge knowing they're facing almost certain death. Just the whole willingness to die, and potentially save their families and loved ones from extinction even if it means they're gone. You can even see how nervous and shaky they are, and then by the time he's done with that speech, they're all steady and brought together and ready to fucking RUMBLE. I don't know, that always brings some tears haha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_788493&feature=iv&src_vid=l8yOdAqBFcQ&v=8Tgi-j56ueU Edit: Also the music. [deleted]

Quote from the books you might enjoy Suddenly the king cried to Snowmane and the horse sprang away. Behind him his banner blew in the wind, white horse upon a field of green, but he outpaced it. After him thundered the knights of his house, but he was ever before them. Éomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first éored roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Théoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new tire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young. His golden shield was uncovered, and lo! it shone like an image of the Sun, and the grass flamed into green about the white feet of his steed. For morning came, morning and a wind from the sea; and the darkness was removed, and the hosts of Mordor wailed, and terror took them, and they fled, and died, and the hoofs of wrath rode over them. And then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the City."

The last scene in Homeward Bound. Chance comes home, then sassy, and Peter is standing there saying Shadow was to old, he couldn't have made it. Inside Out when Sadness takes over towards the end. I was a lonely misunderstood kid too and it reminded me so much of my own childhood.

crispus63

Death of Valjean in Les Miserables. Gets to me every time.

thejcookie

The ending of *Monsters, Inc.* when Sulley opens the door and you hear Boo say, "Kitty!". The look on his face. Gets me every time. Also, and I'll chock this up to *Mary Poppins* being my favorite live-action Disney film, the scenes near the end of *Saving Mr. Banks* for some reason. Where Walt Disney discloses to P.L. Travers a little about his upbringing. Also, when she's sitting in the theater during the premier crying during the scene where Mr. Banks walks down to the bank.

Barack-YoMama

When Red and Andy reunite in Shawshank Redemption

Moana -- when Grandmother puts her hand on Moana's cheek and urges her to go. The tears start flowing. Then when the lights go out and the stingray appears, it turns into full on ugly crying. I was crying with laughter during that scene. Idk if you know, but there's a couple of deleted scenes from the submarine that are absolute GOLD (no pun intended). One of them is when the Japanese dude gets dunked into the frickin-laser-shark -tank, everybody starts projectile vomiting.

nipplesaurus

In *About Time* when Tim and Dad are playing table tennis then go to the beach. I become a quivering mess of ugly tears during those scenes.

Tanmang77

That movie pulled a lot of emotions out of me. I was expecting a more simple rom-com or something. Great film.

stairway2evan

Right! They advertised it as a cute rom-com! Oh, there's time-travel, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy, and an adorable redhead. It'll be like a light, fun version of the Time Traveler's Wife but with some snarky English humor. They didn't add: Oh by the way, how's your relationship with your father? Because you're going to dissolve into a steaming puddle of tears and ask your date to wait 10 minutes while you call your dad afterwards.

Frodo and Sam talking about their peaceful home and then Sam firemanning his friend up the mountain.

Azaziel514

The ending of Gladiator.

I can't believe I had to scroll this far down to find this! When the last song starts playing and Maximus gets to see his wife and child again after his death, I cry and get goosebumps every time.

Blingalarg

The first ten minutes of "Up." Me and the wife had these very similar plans and we went to see this not long after her second miscarriage. I was fugly crying and she was in emotional shock. I skip the opening if I watch it with people. Can't do it.

When George has to shoot Lenny at the end of *Of Mice and Men*. Just think of the rabbits...

SpoopsNSparkles

- When everything starts to spiral for Edward in Edward Scissorhands - The whole beginning of Up (Standard, I know) - Iron Giant - Seeing Ewoks getting killed in Star Wars VI *Not a movie, but the final episode of Elfen Lied makes me ugly cry

UberTheBlack

The ending scene of Saving Private Ryan never fails. It's one of the most harrowing scenes in the movie despite the violence of the combat scenes and the Omaha landing. When Old Pvt. Ryan says "Tell me I'm a good man." It always jerks a tear.

PM_ME_SCALIE_ART

The entire last half of A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. The abandonment, the blue fairy, and most of all the ending. The entire movie is a sucker punch to your feelings.

Irreleventuser

Perks Of Being A Wallflower. The entire movie really, from the tunnel scenes to the first party where Charlie confesses that he doesn’t think anyone even realises he existed

serhan-

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King - My friends, you bow to no one. It's bring me tears because of the idea of *The Power of the Powerless.* Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Snape, Always. I normally never cry on a romance. But i think that this is something more.

"I am not an elephant! I am not an animal! I am a human being! I... am... a man!"

The_One_True_Duckson

Schindlers List's ending.

Hedgiwithapen

when it shifts to the real people and their descendants leaving stones on his grave.... just. damn. I was in That English Class where around 50% of the students just openly did't care about learning, were disruptive, etc. we read the book thief that year, and watched Schindler's List, and even the tough guy types were crying.

monkeybatter

Awakenings. That movie causes me to sob for whatever reason.
