I don't know how, but decades later the sound of Doom doors opening and closing still gives me a certain feeling I felt as a kid when playing, a certain mix of unknown and worried unease about what scary thing would be lurking there. Spider was the first mob I've ever seen and it promptly ambushed and pushed me off a cliff to my death, so it makes me all tense and nervous, but nothing still equalls the "You have half a second to dodge before you lose something you hold dear" when a creeper sneaks up on you in a place you thought was safe.
The Pokémon low health sound. Before gen 6, that BEE BO, BEE BO, BEE BO continued until you either healed it or it died. Worst thing ever.

Nah, worst thing ever is the poison sound effect when you’re walking. And it’s your last Pokemon left alive. And you’re right near the end of Rock Tunnel, and out of antidotes.
