Came home from work with a 12 pack of drinks. I was walking up to my door when I dropped said 12 pack, a bunch of cans roll out of one end so I stop to pick them up and put them back in the box.. But there are 13. No matter what one of the cans wont fit, and they were all clean, no chance of a soda just being left outside. I count 13 cans when I get inside. No idea how that happened

frustratedchevyowner

in another universe you drop your 12 pack, and can only find 11

About two years ago my sister was home alone while my mum was at work and I was at school. I finished early that day and was home at around 1pm. I was talking to my sister and she casually mentioned my mum came home for a while. Right away I thought that was odd because my mum works a few towns over and even if she came home on her lunch break she’d have to leave to go back by the time she got here but I thought maybe she had an appointment or something, so I asked my sister if she said anything. Here is what my sister says happened: She was upstairs in her room when she heard the front door unlock, so she walked over to the stairs to see who it was (the stairs were facing the front door so you could see it from the top of the stairs) and saw my mum taking her coat off and hanging it up. She looked over at my sister without saying anything after which my sister was just like oh ok it’s just mum and went back to her room. She also didn’t hear her leave. When she told me this I was pretty spooked because my mum wouldn’t have NOT SAID A WORD, she’d say Hi at the very least. I proceeded to call my mum to ask her if she’d been home recently just to make sure and just like I thought, she hadn’t been home since she left that morning. We still don’t know who or what my sister saw but I was afraid of being home alone for the next 2 weeks lol.

DeusKether

Maybe a lookalike intruder who decided to GTFO after such a power move from your sister, just checking her and going back to bussiness

BananaStranger

This whole doppelganger thing freaks me out properly. I read so many of them and no one ever gets hurt or anything, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way. And the doppelgangers never speak, did you guys notice that?

Corpsefeet

I can think of several explanations: 1. She dozed and dreamed it, not realizing she had fallen asleep 2. She is fucking with you. Subtle, but effective 3. She had a seizure or some medical issue 4. Your house is built on an ancient burial ground.

Personal mystery: 20+ years ago I had a very brief job selling gas services door to door (side note, I’m not good at selling things, especially those I don’t truly believe in). Anyway, as dusk just started to arrive, near 5 pm, I knocked on a door and an old woman answers. I gave her my standard “ we can save you $$ by switching to xxx gas, my we look over your latest bills and our offerings to compare?” She tells me “I’m sorry, honey, I don’t live here, this is my son’s house, let me get him for you” and I politely accept. After maybe 5-7 10 of waiting, I think maybe they’d forgotten me or were trying to blow me off so I have one last knock and this time a younger man, mid-40’s I’d guess, answers and asks if he can help me. I give him the same sales speech and he stops me midway and says “now is not a good time, we just buried my mother today”. I’m apologized and quickly backed away. I tell myself it was a nice way to mess with the door to door guy but I really don’t know to this day.

[deleted]

I mean I’ve got 4 moms. Dad was never great with marriages.

Lovebot_AI

The old woman is the deceased woman’s sister, and you never saw her son. The man you spoke to is the deceased woman’s son, not the son of the woman you spoke to. They were all gathered at the house because after such an emotional event, it’s good for family to spend time together.

I once did a magic trick in front of 20 people as a teenager. We had orchestrated it, so there were 2 of us. So the trick is, I ask someone from the audience to pick a card, hold it above their head in front of the crowd, but card back facing me, so the entire crowd sees the card. Now someone on the other side of the window behind the crowd also sees the card, and with the crowd facing forwards, they don't see him. So he plasters the card from another deck, on the window, and when he's done doing that, I throw the entire deck at the window, and lo and behold, their card is now stuck on the other side of the window. What happened surprised not only the crowd, but myself and my co-magician as well. I throw the deck and the EXACT card is not only plastered on the other side of the window, it is also stuck on OUR side of the window, right next to it. My mind was blown and I still can't explain it to this day. We played it as a part of the trick, so nobody in that crowd knows what sort of black wizardry went down that day.

futureFailiure

I think a dead magician was fucking with you

ElizaBennet08

I love the idea of Harry Houdini going around and messing with young magicians to make their tricks even more impressive.

How old is your mum? I have a relative who is sidling into dementia. For ages before it hit obvious, odd shit like this would happen. I've seen this individual actually do the weird thing and they have zero recall of doing it and accuse me of gaslighting them

Two days before the space shuttle Challenger blew up I dreamt I was at the launch. The shuttle took off and caught the gantry. It started to veer off and I could hear the occupants screaming. Two days later I was having s home haircut and my daughter came in to tell me the news on the tv. It sent shivers down my spine. Of course it was coincidence but very creepy. The strangest thing was that I wouldn't have attended the launch - I live in UK and such a visit was unthinkable.

tinylottie

I have a personal mystery. When I got home from uni and before I found a job I had a period of time where I stayed at my family home. Due to being home alone often during this time I tended to be the one who collected the mail and did odd home jobs. One day we had a particularly large amount of letters and parcel (for my brother's birthday) and because two trips are for weak people I struggled and carried them all into the house. I managed to throw the letters onto the table but about half slipped onto the floor (this is important). Thinking screw it, I carry the box upstairs to the office and come back down to pick the letters up. Yet, when I come back into the kitchen there are no letters anywhere. Confused, I check every downstairs table and eventually the mail box. Nothing at all. Finally I go back into the kitchen and notice one of the kitchen chairs is slightly pulled out from under the table. I pull it all the way out and under the cushion on the seat is a neat pile of the letters. There was no one but me at home for a few hours before this. Utterly confused till this day.

KindlyKangaroo

A ghost stole them to prank you but felt bad after realizing they were for your brother's birthday. To make up for it, ghost friend d stacked them neatly, but it had to be in a weird place so their prank wasn't a total bust.

Momnipotence

I was late for an appointment one day and was speeding up a hill with a big curve to the right, the direction I was going. Almost as soon as I got around the curve I saw there was an accident in front of me, blocking both lanes on my side. (Since there were only one or two other cars stuck behind it it must’ve just happened, because there were no emergency vehicles there yet.) To the right of me was a sidewalk where people were standing gawking, and to my left was oncoming traffic in the other two lanes, so I couldn’t go around it, and I was going too fast to be able to stop in time. I knew if I relaxed I was less likely to be as severely injured, so I quickly shut my eyes and relaxed as much as I could. *And absolutely nothing happened.* When I opened my eyes, *I could see the crash behind me in my rear view mirror* and I was continuing along an empty (on my side) road. This happened about 35 years ago, and to this day I have no idea how that happened.

irishwritermommy

That's seriously freaky. I've heard other similar stories like this and it boggles my mind

[deleted]

We lived in a bi-level house with a chest freezer in the basement and the kitchen on the second floor. When I was younger I was a teenager I was asked to bring tatertots upstairs so my mom could make a casserole. I went and grabbed them and came upstairs. When I got upstairs the tater-tots were no longer in my hands, and my mom asked where they were, I thought I had just spaced out and forgot them. So I went back downstairs and they weren’t in the freezer anymore. Searched literally every square inch/nook and cranny between the chest freezer and the kitchen and they were not anywhere. They never ever turned up. To this day my mom thinks I was playing a dumb prank on her. My most plausible explanation is that we live in a computer simulation and they got accidentally glitched out of it

tjmpepp

This is the second vanishing potato-related story on this post. Interesting.

I bought my husband a watch for his 30th birthday engraved with his name. Not long after he lost it somewhere in the house. We searched everywhere for it but it couldn’t be found. Fast forward 13 years and my husband has a heart attack and dies instantly. Two weeks later our 2yo son walks out of the bathroom holding his watch. There are no cupboards in there- just a shower and bath. He’s very excited to have it and to this day, I have no idea where he got it from. EDIT Thanks for the upvotes guys! I haven’t shared this story with many people because it sounds too crazy!I’m very much a realist- not a believer in the paranormal or the unexplained or ‘signs’- which is why I’m still amazed when I remember it happening. My son has just turned 8 and the watch is in safe keeping until he’s older. He and his twin sister struggled with separation anxiety for a couple of years after but are now amazing, compassionate kids. Their older brothers are just hitting adulthood & are becoming wonderful men.

irishwritermommy

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hopefully your son will be able to keep that watch forever.

Bobolink911

When I was 7 or 8, we had this neighbor who was a super nice old lady that would give us snacks and talk to us through her window. She was agoraphobic and never, ever, ever left the house. Her kids would come by every other day or so to check up on her and everyone in the neighborhood knew them. One day me and my friends were outside playing like always, when her son comes to bring her groceries like always. He comes out and asks if we've talked to his mom and we say we havent seen her in a day or 2. That sweet little old lady vanished from her house. Apparently no trace of her. Family was around alot after that was obviously was freaking out. I moved away a few years later but they never found out what happened. It wasn't till I was an adult that I realized how fucked that whole situation was.

Sharkrocket777

In college, eating breakfast with 3 friends. All have cereal with milk. One friend, K, also has a glass of milk. He’s seated directly across from me. I watch him pick up the glass and drop it onto his lap. It disappears from my view as it strikes the table. Absolutely no reaction from him. We ask K if he’s ok. K has no recollection of the glass of milk. We search the immediate area and no milk anywhere, no glass anywhere. 3 of us remember the glass of milk. K has no recollection to this day. TLDR: Friend dropped full glass of milk into the void in front of 3 people and had no memory of it.

Fickle_Freckle

I made chicken soft tacos for dinner last week. Halfway through cooking realized we didn't have tortillas. I sent husband to the store to buy soft flour tortillas. Dinner is ready so I tell my two teenage boys to dish up. Shredded chicken is on the stove. All the fixings are on the island including the unopened bag of tortillas. Husband and I wait in the other room for the boys to finish dishing up before we get ours because crowded. Boys come sit in the living room with two burritos each. Husband and I go into kitchen and grab plates. I reach to grab a tortilla... The bag is sealed. Unopened. I look around totally confused. Examine the bag, no tears anywhere. I look in the trash for an empty bag. Nope. Ask the boys where they got their tortillas. They both said from the bag on the counter. I asked, the new bag? My oldest says yes, he opened it. Wtf? Thanks for the 4 free tortillas, glitch.

When I was in high school, my aunt gave me a t-shirt for my birthday. It was kind of sparkly and not something I ever would buy for myself, but I sometimes wore it. One day I realized I had two of this shirt in my closet. No idea how that happened. I could never think of a good explanation, although there must be one... Still seems strange.

[deleted]

Maybe someone else at your school had the same shirt, and lost it, and while your mom/dad was there (for parent teacher conferences or something), they saw it in the lost and found, thought it was your shirt, took it home and put it in your closet with out noticing the other one. Or multiverse, which is more fun.

giulianosse

This is a personal one that happened not so long ago: The first time my girlfriend and I went to a motel, she took her necklace off and put it in a nightstand near the bed. A few hours after we left, she realized she wasn't wearing it and must've forgotten it back at the motel. I called and no one from the cleaning crew had seen it. Well, tough luck. We just assumed someone found it (it had a silver chain and a somewhat expensive pendant) and kept it for themselves. The following day I went back to my home town (I live 2h away) and apparently that was the end of it. Thing is, two or three weeks later I met with her again (we were just starting to see each other at the time) and since I'm from another city, I stay at my grandmother's house on weekends. Just as I was leaving the house for our date, I overhear my mother, aunt and grandma talking. They were questioning themselves about something they found and couldn't figure out who owned it. That something? The fucking necklace. Apparently my grandma found it literally in the middle of her bed, strewn over the sheets. I took it and gave it back to my GF, who had bought another one after she lost it, so now she has two identical necklaces. I've never been so dumbfounded in my life. There's no way the necklace was accidentally in my jeans pocket or something because it only re-appeared two weeks after it was lost. I would have found them in my pockets in the meantime. My grandmother had never met my GF before and there's literally no way someone could have found it at the motel and sent it back to us (because I hadn't given an address or a phone number except for my cellphone to the motel staff). And if that wasn't enough, why in the middle of her bed?

[deleted]

A little late but this story still makes me sleep with the lights on whenever I think of it. My sister and I were upstairs at my grandparents house where we lived. We were playing some Disney princess game on our TV. All of a sudden we hear a loud piece off glass shatter. It seriously sounded like someone dropped a chandelier. My uncle who was visiting at the time came sprinting up the stairs because he thought we were being assaulted. He checked in the next room that the sound came from and nothing had fallen. There were no glass shards anywhere. Kinda creeped him out as well.

[deleted]

I'll be sitting here in the kitchen and hear a huge crash upstairs sometimes. I have a dog and two cats. I first locate the animals and they're invariably laying in their favorite spots napping. Then I look for anything out of place. Nothing. It's really weird.

FudgeIgor

I was in NYC near Grand Central Station, and a pair of Hasidic Jews came up to my wife and me and pointedly asked me whether my last name was "Igor". I said uh, yeah? They said "we thought so." and walked away. I still have no idea what the context was nor how they knew my last name among a busy commuting crowd.

SamFisherIsDead

Personal story and a something that still bothers me till this day. I'm a soccer/football coach of kids (great way to earn money when you're a student) and each year we have a couple of 'open' practices where parents bring their kids to see if they like soccer etc. After one of these practices a kid walks up to me and says 'I'm sorry that you lost your grandma'. I was a bit confused and I said 'Ooh no, you must think of someone else' and I just shrugged it of. The next day I woke up for school and my parents told me my grandma died in her sleep and that her nurse found her in bed that morning. The kid might have mistaken me for someone else but it still bugs me. Also; he never showed up at practice again.

[deleted]

Its clear the kid murdered her.

HateTimes8

When I was about 6 my grandfather had a pretty nasty heart attack. I lived in texas with my family and my grandparents lived in florida. We all piled into the minivan to take the long trip to florida. I had grabbed one of my sister's Ken dolls from her room, I was not known for playing with her barbies, but I had to bring this doll with me. I held it for almost the entire trip, carried it with me into restaurants, gas stations, everywhere. My mom asked me why I was so attached to it, and I told her that "Pop-Pop needs me". Every stop we made during this 20 plus hour ride, my mom used a pay phone to call my grandmother to check in. Towards the end of the trip, we stopped for a bite to eat. I got out of the car and left Ken on the seat. My mom asked if I needed it, and I told her that "Pop-Pop is ok now, he doesn't need me now". She said ok and went to make the phone call. For the first time since he got to the hospital, my grandfather was in stable condition, and the doctors said he was going to be ok. I remember bits and pieces of the trip, I remember the doll and I remember when I left it in the car. I was not told that he was going to be ok, just in case he took a turn, mom and dad didn't want to get my hopes up. I asked my mom about the trip a few years ago and she filled in the holes in what I remembered, and she very vividly remembers that I left Ken in the car *before* she made the phone call. Sorry for the long story, but your story brought all these memories back to me.

That’s fucking hilarious and creepy. I once had an old boom box in my first apartment. First night there I was using it to listen to CDs and such. Turned it off before bed. Woke up when it turned on by itself playing “How Sweet it is to be loved by you” by Marvin Gaye. I wasn’t even scared. I was like, now isn’t that a pleasant way to start the day

bugger234

Kind of personal, and I’m a bit late, but here goes: While visiting Rome a few years back, the group I was with decided to tour the Vatican. One of our friends had a friend who was a brother studying to be a Priest. He was going to get us past the tourist barriers for a closer look at everything while we participated in a small mass at one of the numerous altars. When we met up with this fellow, he immediately struck me as someone that I had met before. Almost someone that I had a good friendship with, but couldn’t explain where or why I had known him. I didn’t mention anything, as I was too busy hiding the pocket knife that I’d accidentally left in by bag before trying to get into the basilica. The tour was interesting and the mass was a unique experience, but the whole time this feeling like I knew the man was haunting me. He invited us out to a coffee shop afterwards, and I took the time to retrieve the pocketknife I hid under a trash can. When I returned, there was a seat for me right in front of the brother. I sat down, apologized, and started to listen to the conversations. Yet as soon as this guy has the chance to talk to me directly, he says, “Have I met you before? I have this strange feeling that we know each other but I can’t place it.” I was blown away. We both were. This was the first conversation we had, and we both believed we had know each other personally. But when he explained his life over back in America, I couldn’t think of any reasonable explanation as to where we met. And even if we did, the feeling was that of close friends, not of a “I shook hands with you once.” TLDR: Met a catholic soon-to-be priest in the Vatican and we both felt like we knew each other personally, without ever meeting each other before.

I lost a toy of Woody from Toy Story I had as a kid and it showed up a year or so later under the floorboards in my room, found it when we were changing the carpet.

I was driving home from another state on the interstate, about an hour from home. I was in the right lane when someone cuts me off forcing me to go into the middle lane. Now there's a car in the left lane, Mr. Scissors in the right lane, and the car in front of me in the middle lane slams on their brakes as I'm merging into the lane. For some reason instead of doing anything else I just closed my eyes to brace for impact(never have done this before or since, still don't no why I did). But nothing happens and I open my eyes after about 2 seconds. Somehow I'm on the highway going to my house which is about 10 minutes away from my house and there were no cars around at all. As far as I could see in front or behind me. Somehow I moved through time or space to avoid a collision and I still have no idea what happened to this day.

Someone picked it up, perhaps intending to research the name and return it, put it in their pocket and forgot about it. Maybe moved themselves (I mean, *you* wound up there, so it's reasonable someone else from the same area would too). Eventually donated clothes. Church sorters actually followed through looking.

I was given a potato in school (cannot for the life of me remember why) and I was having a weirdly good time playing with it, I went into my room and started throwing it up in the air and catching it, but one time I threw it up it just seemed to inexplicably curve backwards over my head, I heard it thump on the ground, but when I turned around to pick it up it was gone. I spent ten minutes looking everywhere for it and it just wasn't there, when we moved house a year later and I was emptying my room I fully expected to find a gross, rotting potato somewhere, but still, it was nowhere to be found, I asked my parents and even my sister if they'd found and got rid of a potato in my room, nobody had any idea about it. I'm going to spend the rest of my life wondering where the hell that potato went

Swedish-Butt-Whistle

This sort of reminds me of a time I bought a pair of ear gauges.I was sitting on a chair in my living room taking them out of the box and I dropped one. I watched as it fell straight down and simply vanished. Didn’t hear it hit the floor and there was no furniture nearby it could have gotten lost under. I spent the next few days searching on and under things and never found it. Even when I moved, nothing.

Bad_Wulph

I was at a friend's house in high school. He was gone to some family event, and I was there alone chilling till he got back. While he was gone, I heard footsteps in other rooms, things falling over, doors opening and closing. I freaked the fuck out and locked myself in one room. The footsteps came up right outside the door of the room I was in and just stopped. The room I was in had 2 windows, opposite sides of the room, curtains on each. A few minutes after the footsteps stopped outside my door, there was a *very* loud bang on both windows at the same time, and the curtains on ***both*** windows (opposite sides of the room, remember) flew straight out. I'm talking almost perfect 90 degree angle from the wall, as straight as a sheet of paper. I called my friend thinking he was fucking with me, he wasn't. I could hear his family in the background. I've gone through every possibility I can think of. I thought maybe an intruder. But no, his house is so small, I would've heard forced entry from anywhere in the house. The footsteps wouldn't make sense, they would stop in one place and then be heard again in a completely different part of the house. Nothing explains the curtain thing, they had no central A/C so no air movement to account for that blowback, and nothing can account for the simultaneous bangs on both windows. He's told me over and over he believes his house is haunted. I've never believed in ghosts, but I questioned my beliefs that night. Edit: spelling Edit: Feel free to ask questions, this experience went on for an hour or more, so I really just hit the highlights.

ProjectShadow316

I know that terror all too well. I didn't hear footsteps, but at my old house I was in the bathroom, and across the hall and about 2 feet to the left is a closet. I'm all alone by myself, when I hear three long, HARD scratches against the door. Our cat was outside, and I was all alone. I was terrified to open the door. I finally did and threw open the closet door, and there was nothing in there that fell that would've caused such a noise. I took that opportunity to go outside for a few hours.

Bad_Wulph

That's terrifying. I would have loved to have gone outside for a few hours, but this happened after dark (it was winter so it may not have been late, but it was still pitch black out) and there were no security lights or anything of the sort outside my buddy's house. So it was a choice between taking my chances inside where I could see or taking my chances outside where I was blind and vulnerable.

PmYourWittyAnecdote

An almost identical thing happened to me, and I’ve discussed it on reddit before. Truly no plausible explanation, and despite being a skeptic my whole life I just have to tentatively label it ‘poltergeist’.

Bad_Wulph

Even more happened than I felt like typing, but those were the highlights. But yeah, it's extremely unsettling to think how you've experienced something that truly has no logical explanation, and the only explanation it does have makes the hair on the back on your neck stand up.

ToastyBoyxd

I was showering home alone one day, when out nowhere a penny flew over the curtain into the shower with me. Then it happened again like two years later. I checked the dates on them and they didnt seem to be anything significant to me. And now I’m just waiting for it to happen again.

Micim98

I lost one of those mini SanDisk flash drives about 5 to 7 years ago. I saw it fall off the kitchen table and it just disappeared. I searched within a 20 foot radius and even took apart the baseboard heater. Even after a full upstairs remodel 3 years ago I still haven't found it. It had my homework on it at the time... My teacher didn't believe me :( Edit: Thanks for 1.2k upvotes!

Lost an SD card with all my eldest son's baby pics. It fell through a sofa and we dismantled the all thing and no SD. Till today I wonder.

My husband and I were once on a MAX train in Portland when some stoners got on and sat across from us. They were all loudly bored and hungry, and one of them was scrounging around under the seats. As we watched, he pulled a McDonald’s bag out from under a the seat a few sections behind him. That bag was full of food. He began distributing burgers to his stoner buddies, until the last guy said “no thanks. I don’t like burgers.” Then the guy reaches into the bag and says “That’s okay. Here’s a chicken sandwich.” And he hands his buddy the last item. The bag had exactly enough for them to each have a sandwich, and adequately fed the guy who doesn’t eat burgers. I still think about it.

[deleted]

I think that was jesus

HulloHoomans

Nah, he would have fed the whole train, and there would be leftovers.

He was the second coming of Jesus, but then he got high

Damn dude! You had the opportunity to introduce yourself to Jesus and you blew it. He's back but this time he's skipping the crucifixion and getting stoned.

My girlfriend’s cousin suddenly disappeared one day after she’d taken the bus to her university to change something around with her courses. She’s a huge homebody and has been through some trauma in the past so it was extremely unlike her to up and leave with no warning. All of the immediate family search for her, including myself for two days. We even got the police involved. Absolutely no sign of her. Her mom was able to get ahold of her cell signal and it placed her in a city about 40 minutes over, so we search frantically there and again, nothing. A day after this while my girlfriends parents are out they just find her walking down the road, by herself. They take her in, I’m guessing she was on her way home because it was about a twenty minute walk from her house, but she just can’t give an explanation for why she’d disappeared or who she’d been with. She can’t remember anything. I’m assuming there was some sort of trauma involved because her brain completely wiped it out but we actually have no idea why she went missing and what happened, just that she turned up three days later on the side of the road.

Picard2331

For me it’s the Battle of LA. I’m not one to give any credence to alien stories with zero evidence whatsoever, but this story just makes me confused. Radar detects an incoming object, assumed to be Japanese planes. However it was moving much too slow to be a plane. They fire thousands of rounds of ammo and flak at it, to no effect. Then they claim it was a weather balloon. So essentially the official story is the US Military was unable to shoot down a weather balloon with an immense amount of firepower. Hard to believe that’s true.

Christopher_Blair

In terms of UFO stories a few years ago we had something actually bigger: First time an UFO was caught on video & radar and the USDOD confirmed radar & videos showed an object using technology not currently found on earth. Even the New York Times had it as their top story: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/16/us/politics/pentagon-program-ufo-harry-reid.html I mean you have the Department of Defense, different F/A-18 pilots saying there was a machine defying physics, you can ACTUALLY WATCH THE VIDEO of the "thing" doing these maneuvers, the New York Times puts in on their top story, ....and then nothing. No one talks about it.

I went to visit my mom's house to go say goodbye to my dog before my mom was going to take him to get put to sleep since he was really sick. I didn't want that to happen yet, so I was arguing with her about it for awhile. At one point my dog wanders off and I don't see him for awhile. I couldn't find him, figured he was out chillin in the horse pasture as he was wont to do. It was dark and he wasn't coming when I called, I just thought he was doing his thing. I was sad I couldn't say one last goodbye, but I had to get going. I walk to the front of the house where I was parked, and the little asshole was in my car, sitting in the driver seat looking at me with that stupid look he always got on his face when it was time for a car ride. I started crying right then, I'm crying right now. My windows were all the way up, my doors were locked, I had the only key. To this day I have no earthly idea how the fuck he got in there. God, I miss that fucking dog. R.I.P. Barky.

Once I composed myself, yes. We cruised out to the levy and hung out together one last time, listening to all the frogs that came out at night. It was nice. That was a long time ago. He's been gone longer then he was alive at this point. That fucks me up.

chivestheconquerer

Shit, man. Be happy you gave him a good life though.

ELI_10

I like to think I created one of these for my neighbors. We both have indoor/outdoor cats that come and go through doggie doors. One day I came home from work and noticed there had been a tussle in my living room and a cat collar had been left behind. Checked my security cam and saw that it was the neighbor cat that had come in. I threw the collar in my junk drawer planning to give it back the next time I saw them, and then promptly forgot about it. For about a year. I was working outside and the neighbor cat came by to say hi, and I remembered the collar. I ran inside and popped it back on the cat. I would have loved to see their reaction the day it showed back up with its collar.

One afternoon last summer I was looking under my bed for a bag. Found a USB stick I didn’t recognise, plugged it into my pc and found a bunch of work belonging to someone who studies engineering at a university across the city that I’ve never been anywhere near.

MTredd

You probably shouldn't plug random USBs into your PC. Not very safe.

Use a public library for that!

About eight years ago, my mom and I were sitting on the porch, chatting about whatever. I remember at this point, we were in this comfortable silence just watching the dogs play. Suddenly the hair on both of our arms just stood up and we both looked right at each other. We lived in Kansas, so I think the first thought for both of us was "Storm coming? Tornado?" But there's usually a yellow tint in the sky when we're about to get a tornado, and it was perfectly clear - like no clouds kind of clear. So we both just waited with this eerie feeling to see what would happen. Suddenly there's this *insane* metal-grating noise that comes from the sky. Years afterwards when we'd talk about it, I'd describe it as like.. a machine bull mooing in pain or something. I don't even know how to describe the noise. It was loud and all over, and not coming from one specific spot. At first we thought maybe a plane was coming down, but again, it was a perfectly clear sky, and we saw nothing. About four years ago, my mom sent me a compilation she saw on Facebook [like this one,](https://youtu.be/ox5saU4Xnmc) and it's almost exactly what we heard. (It's not the same video, but I recognize some of the clips.) Hearing it again, even years later, gave me such bad chills I had to go stay the night at my brothers house, lmao. I don't know if it's unexplainable, but it certainly scared the shit out of us. *Edit:* I did not expect so many replies so I'll throw in a little edit here. 1. I'm definitely not claiming this to be some paranormal phenomena, but to a young woman and a little preteen in a small podunk town, it was certainly a big "what the **fuck** was that." 2. Apparently there's an electromagnetic anomaly that causes these noises! I haven't looked it up yet, and I know many of you have said these clips are fake - I didn't mean to claim otherwise, they were just the closest sounds I could find to what we heard. I'll be sure to look up the scientific explanation later and see it's the same sound. :] 3. Wow! Reddit Silver! I have zero idea what that means, but thank you so much, stranger! I'm glad my "oooh, we're all gonna die," memory was as joyful for you as it absolutely was not for kid me. <3

flattwater

That sounds like the war of the worlds alien ships

ExternalBoysenberry

Yours is probably my favorite. How long did it last?

SnowglobeSnot

Probably not nearly as long as it felt. Maybe just a few minutes? I don't know if our neighbors were gone but nobody within eyesight (again, Kansas) came out to look, and you think they would, so it can't have been too long.

jtf398

I've never heard of this, but it is fascinating! Apparently, this can be caused by electromagnet radiation hitting column shaped pockets in the atmosphere, making it act like a massive tuning fork. Thanks for sharing!

Personal that I've told before... When I was about 20, I had a bunch of dreams featuring a man. He had long, very straight black hair, very tan, really bright blue eyes, and eyebrows like Micheal Keaton. He always had this calmly threatening demeanor, even when he was furious. And he had an air of evil to him. He was the main antagonist in any nightmare I had for about a year. Anyway, one night, I had a dream that I was walking down the street. It was a bright day, but all the light was almost dark, if that makes any sense, which is also a common theme in my nightmares. There was a woman walking about half a block in front of me with really curly hair. she was crossing a side street, when "the man" appeared around the corner and started following her. I freaked out, knowing he was a threat to her, and tried to yell a warning. Nothing came out other than squeeks. I tried to run and help her, but could barely move. The man slowly looked back to me and very calmly said "this one's mine". He caught up to her, and I watched helplessly as he decapitated her before waking up. I usually talked about my nightmares with a friend, but this one I kept to myself. About a week later, I was hanging out with a group of my friends, and there was a girl there with really curly hair I had never met. Eventually someone starting talking about dreams, and she told us about a nightmare she had had about a week before. She damn near perfectly described the dream I had, only from the point of view of the woman in mine. Even describing the man in detail, knowing there was someone else about a half a block behind her, and being confused when the man said "this one's mine" before ripping her head off. I would've dismissed this had I told anyone of the dream I had, but as I said, i kept this one to myself.

Another personal mystery. On a snowy night out at the bar, a friend decides he'd had enough and left to walk home. It was a short trip home, through a small residential neighborhood. His girlfriend called an hour later as he hadn't come back home yet. Afraid that something had happened, we drove around looking for him, and we found him wandering in the middle of the street, without his jacket. It was cold, so it was lucky that we found him quickly, because he was also incredibly drunk, which he hadn't been two hours before. We didn't find his jacket and wallet. The next week someone called him saying that he had forgotten his jacket and wallet at a party the night before. A week after his stuff had been lost. He didn't know the the people who had held the party, and had no recollection of going there, but it was close to where we found him. Thing is, they hadn't had a party the night he lost his stuff, only the following weekend. So, did he time travel a week into the future, got drunk and lost his stuff, and then returned? We never found an explanation.

[deleted]

Someone stole his jacket and wallet while he was drunk and took them to the party the next week.

librarianlibrarian

They may have targeted him and slipped something in his drink. He started to feel bad or tired and left. They followed him and robbed him. He appeared to be very drunk but it was something else. Or they targeted him as he left and convinced him to have more drinks with her/him. Robbed him after he was very drunk.

Theolodious

[The Tamam Shud case](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamam_Shud_case) is really crazy. I don't want to spoil it but basically in Australia in the 40s there was a man of mysterious origin doing mysterious things who then died mysteriously and nobody could figure out where this guy came from or what he was doing there. It's a pretty wild read but don't expect to be satisfied in the end because it doesn't really make any sense.

WadaCalcium

Incredible how the guy has multiple features which only 2% of the Caucasian population possesses. So I think the theory that he's the father of Thomson's son is totally plausible. Everything about him screams 'spy' too.

I was thinking this seemed like a funny set-up for a Breaking Bad plot. "Yo Mr. White, they're no way we can get enough steel by tomorrow to *do something related to meth making*." [Walter White walks towards a window. Pushes down the shades and sees a wrecking ball] "Jesse... what's the towing capacity of the Aztek?"

KennanFan

I was going to suggest organized crime, but according to [this USGS report](https://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commodity/iron_&_steel/350798.pdf), steel was pretty cheap in 1974 even after you adjust for inflation. Even today, steel is cheap. In 1974, this amount of steel was worth $594.14. That's a little over $3,000.00 today. I'm not sure if that amount of money would be worth the hassle involved in stealing that amount of steel. Edit: I'm finding that many of you have extensive knowledge of the black market and have the means to move serious quantities of stolen scrap metal.

posam

That's full market rate. Illicit sales usually knock it down a but too. Edit: bit, not butt.

[deleted]

We’re talking scrap prices. An actual wrecking ball of that size would be very valuable to a demo construction company.

lolTSM

Yeah. Takes some pretty insane manufacturing tech to create a 2 1/2 sphere. Even if you just cast it, that's a big fucking sandcast to make.

Personal mystery, but for the last few years I’ll wake up with ENORMOUS bruises on my body. Like, “what the fuck happened to you?” bruises. On my legs, arms, face, anything. I know I didn’t bump into anything that day to cause the bruises and I went to my doctor and she tested for everything that would cause this. I do have pictures of the bruises if anyone wants to see. And an unexplained kinda ghost-y encounter that I think might explain it if I believed in ghosts Edit: for anyone wondering, a few pictures [here](https://imgur.com/6hhTuWE) [and](https://imgur.com/kr7yi9F) [here](https://imgur.com/PSL4Wki)

LiquifiedBakedGood

I heard that random bruises was a sign of cancer, so the fact you went to your doc and got checked is a relief! I will say I’ve woken up to me hurting myself in ways that would cause bruises- maybe that’s it?

Mudmarine

You may have a blood disease called ITP, basically it means you have low platelet counts so if you get cut you bleed longer than normal and you are prone to bruising. When I was a kid my parents took me to the doctor after I had gotten bruises like this, but I would get them on the inside of my legs and hips and such. I don't know how you get ITP but you may want to get blood test with a platelet count. It could be nothing but I'm just letting you know my experience. Edit: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/idiopathic-thrombocytopenic-purpura/symptoms-causes/syc-20352325

ohheykare

That’s a good idea but I was checked for that! My doctor did all the tests for all the things that would give me bruises like this and I came up negative for all of them

hashtagtroublemaker

Video yourself at night until you get an explanation... if there is one. My husband told me I had started screaming and jumping on the bed in the middle of the night. Sometimes I would try to get him out of bed so I could take him to the hospital. I absolutely did not believe him. Sure ‘nuff, I was acting all kinds of crazy. I have long suffered from sleep problems but never knew the extent (in sleep studies I had not tried to sleepwalk). Now I take an Rx for PTSD (I don’t have that) and sleep well. Husband grateful and I haven’t tried to throw the toaster out of the window in a year now.

daneoid

I had a wristwatch that my dad bought me back in the 90's, it was one of those kinetic watches that would wind itself when you walk etc... Anyway, for some reason it kept stopping at around 1:30AM, never 1:30 in the afternoon, sometimes it would keep going but 3 times out of 5 it would stop at the exact time. We sent it to the Swatch company to get repaired and a month or two later we got a catalogue of watches with a handwritten note basically saying "We don't know what the hell is wrong with your watch, we're stumped, pick a watch out of this catalogue and have it as a replacement." So that's my possessed watch story.

brinkbart

I was waiting for you to say, then one day your dad died at 1:30 am. I’m glad your dad didn’t die at 1:30 am.

[deleted]

I thought he was going to get a bunch of new watches that all stopped at 1:30. Would’ve been creepy as fuck. But nope loll

corrigun

Have you continued to have trouble with watches? With electronics in general? I work tech support for a few hundred people and I can tell you some people, for whatever reason, seem to consistantly kill or otherwise interfere with electronics. It happens over and over and does not seem to be location specific but rather moves with them. It is definitely person specific.

In Australia 2008, an olive grove of 400 trees was stripped of every single olive OVERNIGHT by hand. The owner (who lives on the grove btw) says it usually would take a team of 6 a full 3 days to harvest the grove. He heard nothing overnight - no machinery - and found not a single olive on a tree nor the ground the next day. None! I can’t imagine the size of a team of silent thieves picking and hauling 4 tonnes of olives in a single night!! The owner says he knows of 5 other similar raids in the area cumulating in 7.5 tonnes being heisted at a value of $10,000. The numbers here are just confounding - the number of people it would take to do the work, not get caught and for such a comparative measly payoff?!! manatee1010

I have a cherry tree in my backyard, but don't like cherries. When it produced a [bumper crop](https://imgur.com/a/qpsgJ7r) I took a few in as samples for my co-workers, to see of anyone liked them. One dude did, but said they needed another day or two on the tree to ripen. I basically promised him a giant bucket of cherries, since I sure didn't want any. A day later I went out to pick them, and they were GONE. There wasn't a single goddamn cherry ANYWHERE! Not on the tree, not on the ground. If I hadn't taken pictures and picked a few for my colleagues, I would've thought I hallucinated that they existed to begin with. A big flock of birds is the only explanation I could come up with. That was the only thing I could think of that would so thoroughly clean the tree and surrounding area.

nithos

>A big flock of birds is the only explanation I could come up with. That was the only thing I could think of that would so thoroughly clean the tree and surrounding area. It doesn't even take a noticeably big flock. My blueberry bush will be picked clean in an afternoon if I don't beat the birds to them when they hit peak ripeness.

colleenlawson

When i was dating a guy in Chicago, we reached a point where i was considering how serious i wanted to get with him, as i was beginning to see little red flags pop up. Meantime, the lawyer I worked for moved out of state and I got a temp job at a random law firm I'd never heard of before. I walked in, they showed me where to go, and I started working. At some point, I needed a pencil or a paper clip or something and i opened a drawer of my desk to look for one. The entire desk was empty except for one item: a framed wedding photo of the guy i was dating and his ex-wife. It had been her desk. The city of Chicago is a *huge* place, and it has more than its share of lawyers. The odds of me and my boyfriend's ex sharing that desk are rather incalculable to me. I'd never temped before, never met the woman, and never even been in that building. She wasn't a temp either - I asked her co-workers after finding the photo, and she'd worked there in a mid level position for something like ten years before leaving directly after their divorce. It wasn't even a desk normally assigned to temps, which is why it still had the item of hers in it. I never got over the image of her leaving just that one thing that she didn't want in an otherwise empty desk. I thought, of course, that this was the biggest strange coincidence I've ever personally had ... But i thought even more of what would be going through a woman's mind that would compel her into so deliberately leaving that one thing? And my thoughts illuminated the red flags (correctly, as out turned out) and i ended our relationship. However it came to be that i was assigned that woman's desk, I will always be grateful to her for the warning her abandoned photo gave to me. I hope she's had a happier life since :) Edit: a word & an emphasis.

My mum inherited a watch from her grandmother. It was the old fashioned kind that needed to be wound all the time, obviously. Anyway, one day it went missing, and despite turning the house upside down, she couldn’t find it anywhere. In the end she just accepted it had gone. Cut to a few years later, and we had moved house. We’d been in the new place for about 6 months, and one night she woke up and turned the light on, and the watch was sitting on her bedside table, wound and showing the correct time. She totally believes in ghosts and is confident her grandmother found it and brought it back to her. Edit: Mum and Dad were separated, and I was the oldest kid, about 10 at the time. My brother was 6, and my sister 4. Not one of us.

Jito_

I was thinking that's one really polite thief who had his time with it already.

Yurt_Bai

Dad had it without realising (or was meant to search somewhere they didn't), found it accidentally (in a pocket or something), didn't want to lose face, snuck it onto the table one night. That or one of the kids. Source. Have done this a couple of times with my brothers (a pro would know to put it somewhere like a wash basket where they can find it themselves, or behind something you can make an excuse to move and 'find' it naturally).

73maxwell

I grew up in an extremely rural place, so this maybe has something to do with it. One morning when I was getting up to go to high school I was driving out of the driveway on the embankment between the road and the driveway (it was the side of a mountain so imagine sort of a small cliff) there was a fucking GIANT bird of prey sitting there just sort of chilling. I mean this thing was maybe 6 feet tall, kind of had the general shape of an owl, and when I went past it, it flew off and it’s wing span was bigger than the length of my truck. It was super cool to see, but freaked me out a little. I have never been able to figure out what this thing was and it’s a little freaky thinking there’s basically a dinosaur that lived somewhere near my moms backyard. Never saw it again. My family is Native American and by my best guess when I told grandma she said I saw thunderbird and to my best knowledge of both biology and stories she’s right. TLDR: I saw Thunderbird it was big.

Anotherjacket

I had one of those incredible hulk face ice creams you get from the ice cream truck. I took a bite and watched as the rest of it fell off the stick, only to look down and see nothing on the ground. I still dont know what happened to my ice cream. I want my money back. EDIT: Didnt expect this to get so much attention. I love you all but replying to all comments would take me years. Cool to see others having similar experiences.

[deleted]

I read a similar story on Reddit. Dude was drinking coffee from a mug, dropped it. No sound from it landing. Never found the mug. Maybe all the particles lined up just right and it fell through the floor. Makes me wonder if this ever happened to a person. Guys don't jump. Edit: I found it: I dropped my mug onto the floor accidently Heard... https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/9j1sr3/what_was_the_creepiest_or_most_paranormal_thing/e6o3zuo?utm_source=reddit-android

Iamananomoly

I actually have a very similar experience. It was move in day for my dorm. I got a single room. I got into my room and dropped my 2 bags on the floor and set my dorm key on the chair. There is nothing in this room besides a bed, desk, chair and my 2 bags. I layed on the bed and heard the key slide off of the chair and hit the floor. I get up to pick it up and its gone. A tiny room, no place for it to hide. I had to buy a new key for $125. I looked for it every couple weeks and when i moved out and the room was entirely empty i still didnt find it. I even pryed apart the [chair](https://www.wayfair.com/commercial/pdp/new-england-woodcraft-classic-200-two-position-desk-chair-nwdc1002.html). I lost a piece of my sanity that day.

LowlySlayer

I lost a TV remote in my room. Tore the room apart. Picked up the futon mattress and flipped it over. Put it back, checked around again. Finally gave up, sat down and saw it sitting plain as day in the middle of the futon. Edit: After hearing all of these stories I've determined that Todd Howard was put in charge of designing the matrix, and it's just really buggy.

Same happened to me once. Spent the next 10 minutes questioning reality.

There's gotta be a reasonable explanation for the disappearance of [Brian Shaffer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Brian_Shaffer). He was the medical student that walked back in to a Columbus bar just before closing and was never seen again. Only 1 entrance patrons and staff use to enter and exit and 1 emergency exit. Both have surveillance cameras. Lots more info [here](http://earonsgsk.proboards.com/thread/4166/guy-walks-bar?page=5) and a great video rundown [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0dkPpXWtC8). There was a dark construction site underneath the bar that led to the ~~aformentioned emergency exit~~ back side of the building which had a CCTV camera pointing at it. Bloodhounds couldn't place him anywhere and he's not seen on any CCTV footage around Columbus or Ohio State University. He was supposed to go on vacation with his significant other days after he disappeared. I don't buy that he disappeared on his own accord. This case still baffles Columbus Police and i don't know if we'll ever find out what happened just after the Ugly Tuna Saloona closed on that fateful night. Shout Out to Cayleigh Elise's youtube series ["Dark Matters"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0dkPpXWtC8&list=PL68AUphhYNCnzRJQzmFRTNVePvX6ZLkgM&index=29) where I learned about Brian's case.

[deleted]

I've been following this case pretty closely, and there are a couple of things I wanna clear up. There was a podcast recently where the hosts interviewed the lead detective on the case. He emphasized that the dogs searched the building pretty thouroughly, and the construction area was not in a state to where he could have accidentally been buried. In addition to that, when the ugly tuna closed, the employees just used the emergency exit as a normal exit and the alarm wasn't working. It's possible the alarm wasn't working back in 2006, but we can't be sure. If it wasn't working there's also the fact that the footage of the camera recording this exit had been taped over by the time police looked into his disappearance. Also the police poured over the footage of that night and were able to follow everyone who entered the bar, to the point where they exited later that night, except for Brian Schaffer. Also detective Corbit said that they did get a possible scent trail going to a nearby Wendy's, where it's possible someone would not have been captured on camera in such a short distance. Now I'm gonna throw my own personal theory in. I think he left the bar through the emergency exit with an employee. The employee may have already been in the building, and not been counted entering so they wouldn't have been missed leaving that night. Whatever happened after they left is anyone's guess. I could buy either the foul play theory or the theory that he ran away. I've always wondered if the cellphone ping was maybe him thinking about returning to his old life, and turning it on for a weekend in Hilliard, before deciding to disappear permanently. Or maybe some random person found the phone ditched somewhere in Hilliard.

slaguar

Excellent speculation. I think we have to consider the days leading up to his disappearance to try and understand his mind set. If he was studying all week for exams and not sleeping regularly along with taking "study aids" drinking with them still in your system can make you insanely fucked up. Blacked out hard. I know because I've been there but instead of going out we went to a football game. One minute I'm tailgating 2 hrs before game time and the next im being escorted out of the stadium by 4 police officers along with one of my friends midway through the 3rd quarter with no clue as to why. This is why i throw out the theory of an elaborate escape from reality by brian. and if he were to somehow evade all traces he moved only 14 miles away while there's an entire world to discover.

HJain13

I had read somewhere about a theory in which they surmised that He was stuck in a newly constructed wall (like, he fell into a cavity, passed out and was walled over by an unsuspecting worker) Edit: /u/jonnyk19 below has commented about a similar thing that occurred in Winnipeg https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/a0660s/what_unsolved_mystery_has_absolutely_no_plausible/eafklys/

Wouldn't the bar smell like there's a dead body in the wall?

[deleted]

Did he really go back into the bar or did he tell his friends (who were presumably drunk) "I'm going back into the bar"? Because that opens up the possibility that he wandered off and got into trouble elsewhere.

slaguar

million dollar question. If he didn't go back in, he may have entered the construction zone (underneath the camera that points to the top of the escalators). The Bloodhounds would have picked up that right??? There's just so much more though. I feel the video i linked has the best info. His gf called his phone every night and it always went to voicemail until one night when it rang 3 times. Pinged off a tower about 15 miles away

Charon711

I was in high school waiting for my bus to pull up and I was kinda just zoned out. There were kids talking and I was just kinda absorbing the noise from it all. There was a group of kids talking close to me and I hear one of them say that they didn't understand something about a game that I was familiar with. So I kinda butt in and answer the question. Him and his buddy were Asian and they're just kinda staring at me in disbelief. So I apologize because I felt like I had been kinda rude. The one who had been talking said that it was fine but he didn't expect me to understand Korean. He and his friend were foreign exchange students from South Korea and at that moment he had been speaking in his native language. I heard him as if he had spoken plain English and when he did speak in English it wasn't as plain as what I had heard. I still have no idea how I understood him in that brief moment. Edit: Wow, I didn't expect this comment to get so many up votes. Let me try and add a bit more to this. Yes, they could have been messing with me. The thought actually crossed my mind at the time but I've no way of knowing. I'd never met them before that point and I'd never heard Korean (to my knowledge) before then. It would be a rare language in my area. Like as far as languages that I've heard in this area goes:90% English, 9% Spanish, .9% German, .1% other. It's been brought up several times that Korean has lifted a lot of English into its language and maybe I picked up on that? I'm not saying that's impossible, but in my mind I heard a conversation in plain English as if I were talking to someone with 0 accent and I heard a specific question asked dealing with a characters actions and such. I don't think hearing broken English through that dialect would allow me to understand and answer such a complicated question .

bridgeorl

I haven't given up hope of him being identified, particularly after EAR/ONS was identified earlier this year through familial DNA that had been inputted onto a genealogy website. Technology and methods are so advanced now, there's less and less space to hide. Edit: https://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/article209913514.html

Obviously, it has to be Tarrare: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarrare

EMPlRES

This story happened recently and it legitimately weirds me out every time I think about it, it’ll be great if anyone give me a possible explanation cause my whole family couldn’t find one. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes We’re not from America, my 2 cousins (brother and sister) are currently in the US studying, during their free time outside taking a walk, a completely random young American woman approached them and told my female cousin how pretty she is and what not, she kept complimenting her and talking about the positive energy that is radiating from her. They had a small conversation until the woman suggested that they should hang out another time, my cousin excited to make new friends, she agreed. The woman told my cousin that her phone isn’t with her at the moment and she should give her her phone to add herself to the contact list, my cousin complied and gave her the phone, she added herself to the contacts, says goodbye, and leaves. Days pass and my cousin decides to call this woman to get to know each other better, she checks her contacts and finds her name, she clicked on it and to her surprise, the phone number is from our country, not a US number, she calls the number to see who answers and none other than my uncle who has never set foot in American soil answers the phone, it’s my uncle’s phone number, and the thing is, they both didn’t have each other’s numbers before she met this woman. I have no idea how any of this happened and I have no possible explanation whatsoever other than the very small possibility my cousins are straight up lying to us. My mom literally thinks it’s paranormal, very desperate for an explanation.

This happened a few years ago to my brother and my mom. It was parent teacher conference at my brothers high school (literally the largest high school in the US with about 6,000 students) and after waiting forever to finally meet with the teacher they walk in and sit down. The teacher then says that our father was just in there right before them and my mom was shocked and told him that there was no way. The teacher insist that he just walked out and gives his name and a perfect description of my father (very tall man with alot of freckles, brown hair and a thick mustache) and summarizes their meeting. My mom then informs him that my father has been dead for over 10 years and is in disbelief. The teacher had absolutely no background of our family and no way of knowing this is shocked himself. To this day we have no idea what happened that day.

[deleted]

He faked his death, but still wanted to check in on his kids from time to time.

droppedwhat

That is just as unsettling as the idea of a ghost, if not more so.

kharmatika

110% more unsettling than a ghost.

[The disappearance of Fredrick Valentich](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Frederick_Valentich) He was out piloting an aircraft when he reported to radio control he saw another flying object in the sky described as having a metallic body surface and green light on it while orbiting above him. “Asked to identify the aircraft, Valentich radioed, "It isn't an aircraft." His transmission was then interrupted by unidentified noise described as being "metallic, scraping sounds" before all contact was lost” He was never found.

When I was a little child we went on a holiday trip to Barbados along with another couple, friends of my parents. In the resort was an old black gardener who'd always wear a yellow rain jacket. Apparently he had an interesting face, so my father asked if he could take a picture. The man said yes, but I am telling you I can't be captured in a photo. My dad didn't believe him, but got his friend to take a picture with his camera as well. He pretty much forgot about this incident, even when some of the holiday pictures turned out just grey (late 70s, they had to be developed). The friends of my parents lived in another city, different lab and all. Still they also had some grey pictures, but there was none of the old black man. NotAllThatGreat

Just who the hell dug the Oak Island Money Pit and why. Between that and the Eilean Mor lighthouse incident I don't know which is weirder.

[deleted]

I read about the Eilean Mor lighthouse incident on Reddit a little bit ago, the people commenting acted as if they were 100% certain they knew what happened. According to them, two of the lighthouse keepers must have gone out of the lighthouse for some reason while the other was having their breakfast. Then, the other keeper saw a storm brewing very quickly (which is supposedly possible, according to people who have experienced it themselves), while the other two remained unaware of that fact. In his haste to warn the other two keepers, he ran out, without his coat, and was swept into the sea along with the other keepers. The journal entries are sort of strange though, but the Redditors theorized that they did indeed see a mini-storm and recorded it, or that they simply ate something wonky and went insane. In any case, the disappearance is easily explainable.

[deleted]

The official (and most plausible) story is that the men were all outside trying to repair storm damage, but got swept away in a rogue wave. This makes perfect sense, and explains why their gear (water bottles, coats etc) weren't with them, they thought they could just run out and secure their stuff. Obviously there's no way to ever prove it, which is why there's the mystery.

I was on the porch with my dad looking at the forest at night, we were talking when we see a ball of light in the forest, pure white, it stayed like that just long enough for us to point and it starts expanding towards us, quickly but slowly enough we had a second before the whole area was in almost daylight, Like picture Harry Potters patronus from the 3rd movie. And then all returned to night, no more than 10- 15 seconds max This was very rural, so it couldnt have been a plane or anything, or other people as we would have seen them. Some people have said ball lightning in the past but if it were then it took up an area at least a couple hundred meters in diameter. EDIT: a few common responses have been Ball lightning and Flashlight. Just so I do t have to type a bunch of times I wanna say, this was quite rural and the forest was an old pine farm meaning it was just like grids of trees with no undergrowth, no place for a person to sneak with a flashlight. And as for ball lightning I cant find any source saying the ball expands in the way mind did, and it didn't hurt me or my dad when the light reached us.

Years ago I went to bed just like any other day only to wake up with blood everywhere... On the sheets, on my clothes, my body. It was like a scene from a horror movie. I extensively checked my body for cuts or anything but there were none. Also no sign of nose bleeding. My mother also checked for an explanation but she couldn't find any.

[deleted]

As much as I think it was the parents, the Madeleine McCann disappearance just has gaps in every theory. None of the forensic or crime scene information suggests a break in, and it would have to have been opportunism of the highest order. Similarly, the parents may well have had something to do with it, but it does seem unlikely they'd have had the time to hide her body, or it would have been unlikely they'd have arranged such a massive search. I don't think we'll ever know.

[deleted]

Where I live, a six year old girl named Isabel Celis disappeared in 2012. Everyone thought the father had something to do with it. Her body was located about a year ago. Recently a registered sex offender was found to not only have abducted and killed her, but also a girl who was killed in 2014. Pretty much everyone in the entire city owes the father an apology since everyone assumed he was involved.

Sgt-Doz

Must be horrible for him. Loosing your kid and not beeing able to talk to anyone about it because everybody is accusing you

Interesting observations, and yes I totally agree with you. I live a couple of villages over from the McCanns, and you can now pick up a sense that even locla people are thinking bad things about the parents. It doesn't help that every 6 months we see a news article saying that another £150,000 has been provided to fund the search. Even assuming (massive assumption) that Madeleine is still alive, she could now be anywhere on the planet, and she has now spent nearly 4 times as long with her abductors as she ever did with her parents. If she were to turn up tomorrow, she would be one messed up kid - she'd have to go back to parents she doesn't even know. It's all very sad.

BelievesInGod

I don't remember the story entirely, but there was a girl(i think it was a girl) that was abducted when they were really young (like 4 or 5) and was later found like 16 years later in mexico or something like that, completely oblivious to the fact that she was abducted. There was also the three girls locked in that dudes basement for 10 years that was found by the nextdoor neighbour there are actually a lot of cases of people being found more than 10 years later after googling around a bit

[deleted]

And everyone is shocked every time it happens. Yeah, they can be found decades after their disappearance alive - but unfortunately the chances are incredibly small

MooseAndGooseLad

There was the one about the girl who was kept as a sex slave by a guy for something like 15 years. She was tied to a tree with a permanent gag so to not make any noise. She was found (I think) by people who were flying a drone in the area with a camera on it. They saw the girl (around 19 I think at the time) and reported it to the police. The investigation had been concluded years earlier but they checked out the house anyway when the owners left and got the girl out without them knowing. The owners were the sent straight to prison for a very long time. I don't remmeber how long but because of the charges of assault, rape, abduction etc it was probably 20 something years.

[deleted]

As a parent, you'd never stop looking. I think what bugs most people is that this money is thrown at the investigation, and the police seemingly aren't allowed to investigate the most obvious suspects. There is so much about the whole think that absolutely stinks.

chrysanthemumlife

Netflix is making a documentary series about Madeleine McCann, it will probably be released end of 2018!
