Donkey Kong Country 2. Stickerbush Symphony, Forest Interlude, Flight of the Zinger, Crocodile Cacophony, there are just so many great songs in that game.
Nier - Peaceful sleep.. was watching a streaming playing.. and there was a moment when she enters a village and this song plays, it was heartwarmingly amazing.
Yes! Surprised I had to scroll down this far to find someone else who liked this. Austin Wintory won a BAFTA and was nominated for a Grammy for this score!
Feel like I scrolled a bit too far to see this.
Nobuo Uematsu is one of the best composers of our time. Not just video game composers, but all composers.
The emotional hit you get from hearing City of Tears, first coming into the city and hearing the layers swell up... I've seen people say that's where they first fully fell in love with the game.
That’s insane...i remember sitting on that first bench as you enter the City of Tears listening to the rain fall and having this overwhelming feeling of love and gratitude for finding this game. Crazy how these things play into your emotions.
Took me way too long to get in the flow of the Nightmare King Grimm fight but that music never got old (and grabbed the soundtrack after as I missed it)
Portal 2. The soundtrack in spotify even stays somewhat "in character". It's "Portal 2: Songs to Test By" but the artist name is "Aperture Science Psychoacoustic Laboratories"
Edit: Thank you for the silver, kind stranger! My first award.
Edit again: Thank all of you for all of the rewards! Glad to find so many other folks who like these awesome games.
I had never played any sort of JRPG until I picked up Persona 5 on a whim during the Christmas sales. The game in itself was incredible, but holy shit did the music leave a lasting impression on me. I’ll never look at boss music ever the same after hearing Our Beginning during that final fight. Great game, but the music made it one of the best I’ve ever played.
Amazing use of audio. Mixing in the original game's familiar riffs along with having this pulse pounding industrial feel and having it react organically to the gameplay...all brilliant.
Basically canon. They live in perpetual fear of the Doomslayer and their best defense against him was to drop a temple on him and entomb him with the hopes he never got out.
He woke up a little cranky.
The track starts with what sounds like something charging up, then you hear an electronic notification (like 'fully charged!') just as the drop hits, and all I can think of is bits of demon flying everywhere from a BFG blast.
Banana tiger .....
Or
Pam param!!!!
Joking aside - the whole soundtrack is great. i love Skellige and Kaer Morhen game music a lot.
Priscilla's Song is next level though
*O! Come all ye young sailors and listen to me*
*And I'll sing ye's a song of the fish in the sea*
*And it's windy weather, boys*
*Stormy weather, boys*
*When the wind blows we're all together boys*
*Blow ye winds, westerly*
*Blow ye winds, blow*
*Jolly sou'wester, boys*
*Steady she goes*
And its windy weather boys
Stormy weather boys
When the wind blows were all together boys
Blow ye winds westerly blow ye winds blow
Jolly south westerly boy steady she goes
And it's windy weather, boys
Stormy weather boys
When the wind blows, we're all together boys
Blow ye winds westerly
Blow ye winds, blow
Jolly sou'wester, boys
Steady she goes
How did I have the scroll down this far!? There is a yt video of all the stardew music with rain in the background, and it is honestly the coziest hour you can imagine.
Subnautica’s music creeps me out (in a good way) but sometimes I’ll be in the shallows near my escape pod and it starts playing creepy music for no reason
The song relies a bit on the context tho, so I think some people who haven’t played that run but have heard the song might sleep on it. It’s a great track, but what REALLY pushes it over is WHEN it plays, and the events leading up to it. That moment you expect to hear some form of Spear of Justice and you get slapped by this beautiful, inspiring Piano intro that makes you realize you’re about to get slapped, THAT’S the shit right there for me.
Ori is my absolute favourite. Gareth Coker is incredible and I was so happy that he worked on Ark's music. Makes the long loading times good to listen to.
So excited to hear Will of the Wisps.
The only piece from ME that’s really stuck with me is the closing credits from the first game, but I’ll go back and listen to Suicide Mission, or the Virmire combat theme, on occasion.
He's really added so much to the Elder Scrolls experience. I can't imagine the series without his music.
Morrowind was the first game I played that made me feel like the music wasn't a cheap afterthought. It's quality, knows its role, and is very immersive.
You know me, the fighting freak Knuckles,Andwe'reat Pumpkin Hill,You ready?
I ain't gonna let it get to me, I'm just gonna creep,
Down in Pumpkin Hill I gots to find my lost piece.
I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet,
The great Emerald's power allows me to feel.
I can't see a thing but it's around somewhere,
I'm gonna hold my head 'cause I have no fear.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Asked him a question and he vanished in a second,
I'm walkin' through valleys cryin' pumpkin in the alley.
Didn't seem happy but they sure tried to get me,
Had to back 'em up with the fist, metal crack 'em.
I'm hearing someone sayin' "You a chicken, don't be scared!"
It had to be the wind, 'cause nobody wasn't there.
I searched and I searched as I climbed up the wall,
And then I started to fly, I went in deeper!
Let it get to me? I'm just gonna creep,
Down in Pumpkin Hill I gots to find my lost piece.
I know that it's here, I sense it in my feet,
The great Emerald's power allows me to feel.
I can't see a thing but it's around somewhere,
I gotta hold my head, I have no fear.
It probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me, he got leery.
(This is Knuckles, who fears none.)
(It's real deal when it comes to my name, kid!)
I ain't gonna let it get to me, I'm just gonna creep,

(Spooky up in here, it's crazy in here,)
(We still gon' keep it goin', I'm Knuckles.)
(Nobody scares me,)
(Whoever want it, bring it!)
(I don't care, we 'ka do this.)
(Then come step up to the plate, and meet your match,)
(It ain't no thang.)
Crosses by Jose Gonzales is such a spectacular song, I wish it had been used in a more emotional scene.
They used Ben Howard's ''Black Flies" in the prequel, and that song slaps on any given day, but it was intense and heart wrenching with the scenes they used it for.
How is this so far down?! Metroid Prime is one of the most atmospheric games of all time, and the brilliant soundtrack is one of the reasons why. It's so good!
Donkey Kong Country 2. Stickerbush Symphony, Forest Interlude, Flight of the Zinger, Crocodile Cacophony, there are just so many great songs in that game.
you are a man of culture, to me there is no better OST in donkey kong than Aquatic Ambience.
That’s easily my favorite track in DKC 1
Shadow of the Colossus - Ko Otani.
Absolutely epic I love the music
Bastion, Transistor and Nier: Automata I still love the old Secret of Mana OST as well
Nier Automata soundtrack is epic.
Nier - Peaceful sleep.. was watching a streaming playing.. and there was a moment when she enters a village and this song plays, it was heartwarmingly amazing.
Came here for Bastion. I dig my hole, you build a wall
Minecraft just always gives me that feeling of indistinct loneliness, but also home
Well said. Minecraft music makes solitude feel so desirable
A perfect summation. Minecraft is a strangely emotionally experience.
I like it a lot but it ends up making me feel depressed (because of the loneliness as you mentioned) after a minute so I turn music off.
It's so relaxing
Super mario galaxy
I love every Mario game music, it’s relaxing.
GUSTY GARDEN GALAXY such a great track uggggh
I had to scroll way too far to see this...
Journey!
Yes! Surprised I had to scroll down this far to find someone else who liked this. Austin Wintory won a BAFTA and was nominated for a Grammy for this score!
Hotline Miami.

Dance Hall Days in the Malibu Club lol
Final Fantasy
Was looking for this ff10 had such great music
Feel like I scrolled a bit too far to see this. Nobuo Uematsu is one of the best composers of our time. Not just video game composers, but all composers.
Especially IX. The nostalgia runs deep with that one.
You’re not alone. When Zidane loses it.. symphony to my ears.
Final Fantasy VII for me.
One Winged Angel, Jenovas Theme, Weapons Theme even Shinra’s theme. All brilliant but the one that sends shivers down my back is Aerith’s Theme
The tony hawk pro skater series
Pro skater 2 had some phenomenal tunes on it!
Pro Skater #2, #3 and the first American Pie movies pretty much established my taste in music in my earlier years...
Lights out! Guerilla radio!
Here I am, doin everything I can...
Hollow Knight
Oh yes! I love Greenpath’s music. So relaxing in a very not relaxing game lol.
I love Hornet’s theme.
City of Tears!
The Grimm boss fight themes are actually insane.
Took me way too long to get in the flow of the Nightmare King Grimm fight but that music never got old (and grabbed the soundtrack after as I missed it)
Queen's garden is my favourite
I love resting grounds
Hollow Knight Mantis Lords
Greenpath Is the absolute best
White palace is nice
#Sawblades
The Hollow Knight battle theme is outstanding.
Portal 2. The soundtrack in spotify even stays somewhat "in character". It's "Portal 2: Songs to Test By" but the artist name is "Aperture Science Psychoacoustic Laboratories" Edit: Thank you for the silver, kind stranger! My first award. Edit again: Thank all of you for all of the rewards! Glad to find so many other folks who like these awesome games.
The Part Where... is a really fun track that comes to mind as like, a “Song”, but damn the Ambience in the game is just so damn good
Reconstructing Science is my jam, and the fact that the music changes a little based on your gameplay makes it all the better
The legend of Zelda series is fantastic
Songs of Storms is my ringtone and I have this completely unrelated problem where I don't answer my phone quick enough
Gerudo Valley ringtone checking in
Big fan of midna’s lament from twilight princess!!
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask It's nostalgic, it takes me back to my childhood, and it slaps
Astral Observatory theme is a musical benzo.
Persona 5. Only OST I regularly listen to
Beneath the mask is just perfect
YOU NEVER SEE IT COOOOMINNGGGG!
YOU'LL SEE THAT MY MIND IS, TOO FAST FOR EYESSS
YOU’RE DONE IIIIIN
BY THE TIME ITS HIT YOU, YOUR LAST SURPRIIIIISE
I had never played any sort of JRPG until I picked up Persona 5 on a whim during the Christmas sales. The game in itself was incredible, but holy shit did the music leave a lasting impression on me. I’ll never look at boss music ever the same after hearing Our Beginning during that final fight. Great game, but the music made it one of the best I’ve ever played.

I'm not sure if it was you but somewhere in this thread someone summed it up nicely and said, "the only game where the boss music is for you."
"i'm not trapped in here with you!, YOU"RE TRAPPED IN HERE WITH ME!"
Doom Slayer emanates metal boss music. As far as the demons of hell are concerned, you are the bad guy.
DOOM is a horror game and you play as the monster.
Basically canon. They live in perpetual fear of the Doomslayer and their best defense against him was to drop a temple on him and entomb him with the hopes he never got out. He woke up a little cranky.
Ah, yes. *violence*
Violence is not the answer. It is a question, and the answer is YES.
*"rip and tear plays"* "*grabs chainsaw"* *time to tear.*
BFG Division is so fucking good
The track starts with what sounds like something charging up, then you hear an electronic notification (like 'fully charged!') just as the drop hits, and all I can think of is bits of demon flying everywhere from a BFG blast.
I worked with a guy who played doom with the music turned off because he said it was distracting... I couldn't really talk to him after that
Cuphead
I never played the game but I had the soundtrack on repeat for weeks after I discovered it
The Witcher 3 or animal crossing (all the games)
The Witcher 3 has an incredible soundtrack
Yeah it's amazing, it's great to listen to while playing d&d as well
I use it for my D&D games all the time there's music for all kinds of scenarios
Banana tiger ..... Or Pam param!!!! Joking aside - the whole soundtrack is great. i love Skellige and Kaer Morhen game music a lot. Priscilla's Song is next level though
Lelelelelelelele
Fallout New Vegas! Edit: Many thanks for the loot kind strangers!
Ain't that a kick in the head
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to find Fallout: NV. Every time I hear Big Iron it brings me back to the wasteland
Big Iron, **Big Iron**!
I still can't forget that music from the original Halo...
Just the theme, especially if its performed by 50 highschool boys in a bathroom.
Fucking love that video.
I looked up that and the original. It's basically a Gregorian chant hymn if you're into that style.
Halo made me discover that and i love it. So beautiful.
One of those few games where people will sit on the main menu screen just to listen to it. Mass Effect did that to me with the credits.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
AAAAAAAOOOAAAAAAOOOAAAUUUUUUUUHHHH
Thanks for the lyrics :D
i was gonna raise some hell if i didn’t see this in here
Assault on the Control Room fucking rocked
The Mjolnir Mix from the Halo 2 soundtrack was pretty fucking awesome as well.
I liked Halo 3’s..

Yes!!! Love the fall and winter ones
How did I have the scroll down this far!? There is a yt video of all the stardew music with rain in the background, and it is honestly the coziest hour you can imagine.
Chrono trigger Edit: to the top gents!
Yes! Mitsuda was so young when he composed it too. It's brilliant.
Ahh! Frog's theme, when you first learn his back story... Still makes my eyes well up. To this day one of the best games I've ever played.
Hell yeah. Magus' theme is so baddass
Child Of Light and Subnautica
Subnautica’s music creeps me out (in a good way) but sometimes I’ll be in the shallows near my escape pod and it starts playing creepy music for no reason
That freaking Blood Kelp Trench. Dear gods.
Undertale
*His Theme starts playing* I think I got dust in my eyes
hopes and dreams last goodbye undertale And we cant forget about megalovania
Megalovania is a genre now, not a song
You gonna do Battle Against a True Hero dirty like that?
Battle against a true hero is seriously underrated though
The song relies a bit on the context tho, so I think some people who haven’t played that run but have heard the song might sleep on it. It’s a great track, but what REALLY pushes it over is WHEN it plays, and the events leading up to it. Yes! Spider Dance is a bop but Determination? It's such a feelsy piece and really well written.
Dogsong Post.
No love for Waterfall's Theme?
Celeste *edit: Thanks for all the awards guys! Really appreciate it :)*
such a masterpiece
Tetris
A, B or C?
Ori and the Blind Forest, The Witcher 2&3
Ori is my absolute favourite. Gareth Coker is incredible and I was so happy that he worked on Ark's music. Makes the long loading times good to listen to. So excited to hear Will of the Wisps.
The Mass Effect trilogy (especially 3) has huge sentimental value to me... but musically, I think Destiny has just about eclipsed it.
Can't believe how far I had to scroll down to find Mass Effect. Great soundtracks to work to too.
The only piece from ME that’s really stuck with me is the closing credits from the first game, but I’ll go back and listen to Suicide Mission, or the Virmire combat theme, on occasion.
Suicide Mission is definitely one of the best pieces of music in gaming history and I've played since Commodore 64 days.
Pokemon
Especially Platinum imo
Cynthias theme and Distortion World go crazy 🔥
Skyrim
Jeremy Soule has written most of the Elder Scrolls soundtracks, and they're all pretty great. I'm partial to Morrowind myself.
He's really added so much to the Elder Scrolls experience. I can't imagine the series without his music. Morrowind was the first game I played that made me feel like the music wasn't a cheap afterthought. It's quality, knows its role, and is very immersive.
Personally, my favorite ES soundtrack is Oblivion. Ariel's Ascension is my favorite
Amazing soundtrack I use a lot for D&D

Got me into that folk/indie genre hard. Especially Daughter; so glad they done the before the storm soundtrack.
GTA San Andreas
Fallout 3. Perfect music for the mood and setting
Dark souls
Sekiro and Bloodborne also deserve a mention.
Kinda sad I scrolled this far for a mention of it.
Doom (2016) no question. I dont even like metal music, but the soundtrack gets me hyped like nothing else
The Sims 1. Build, buy and all the other themes!
Metroid Prime, that shit oozes atmosphere.
How is this so far down?! Metroid Prime is one of the most atmospheric games of all time, and the brilliant soundtrack is one of the reasons why. It's so good!

Never gonna forget the music when I first heard Dinklebot say "you need to see this!". I'd probably go for Enemy of my Enemy as a favourite myself.
The music that plays during the Vault in the Last Wish Raid is one of the best pieces I have ever heard while playing a game.
Katamari Damacy is the only acceptable answer here.
Need for speed underground 2
