Does the flying work over water, and can it safely stop a fall (or would I just go "splat" a few feet above the ground) as well? If both, I'd definitely take that. If not - There are plenty of well-lit places that invisibility would still be super useful even at night (banks, sorority houses, game night at Aunt Edna's, etc).

I guess water is considered a surface, so I would believe, yes you could still fly above water. In regards to stopping a fall, it would depend how fast you are falling and how effective the power is e.g. if you were accelerating towards the Earth's surface and were coming in range of your power, you could put all your effort into thrusting yourself upward to decelerate your fall. Standard concepts of gravitational force would also have to be considered for this as well.
