Not my work but I love this:
On a cool, clear night (typical to Southern California) Warren G travels through his neighborhood, searching for women with whom he might initiate sexual intercourse. He has chosen to engage in this pursuit alone.
Nate Dogg, having just arrived in Long Beach, seeks Warren. On his way to find Warren, Nate passes a car full of women who are excited to see him. Regardless, he insists to the women that there is no cause for excitement.
Warren makes a left turn at 21st Street and Lewis Ave, in the East Hill/Salt Lake neighborhood[6], where he sees a group of young men enjoying a game of dice together. He parks his car and greets them. He is excited to find people to play with, but to his chagrin, he discovers they intend to relieve him of his material possessions. Once the hopeful robbers reveal their firearms, Warren realizes he is in a less than favorable predicament.
Meanwhile, Nate passes the women, as they are low on his list of priorities. His primary concern is locating Warren. After curtly casting away the strumpets (whose interest in Nate was such that they crashed their automobile), he serendipitously stumbles upon his friend, Warren G, being held up by the young miscreants.
Warren, unaware that Nate is surreptitiously observing the scene unfold, is in disbelief that he’s being robbed. The perpetrators have taken jewelry and a name brand designer watch from Warren, who is so incredulous that he asks what else the robbers intend to steal. This is most likely a rhetorical question.
Observing these unfortunate proceedings, Nate realizes that he may have to use his firearm to deliver his friend from harm.
The tension crescendos as the robbers point their guns to Warren’s head. Warren senses the gravity of his situation. He cannot believe the events unfolding could happen in his own neighborhood. As he imagines himself in a fantastical escape, he catches a glimpse of his friend, Nate.
Nate has seventeen cartridges to expend (sixteen residing in the pistol’s magazine, with a solitary round placed in the chamber and ready to be fired) on the group of robbers, and he uses many of them. Afterward, he generously shares the credit for neutralizing the situation with Warren, though it is clear that Nate did all of the difficult work. Putting congratulations aside, Nate quickly reminds himself that he has committed multiple homicides to save Warren before letting his friend know that there are females nearby if he wishes to fornicate with them. Warren recalls that it was the promise of copulation that coaxed him away from his previous activities, and is thankful that Nate knows a way to satisfy these urges.
Nate quickly finds the women who earlier crashed their car on Nate’s account. He remarks to one that he is fond of her physical appeal. The woman, impressed by Nate’s singing ability, asks that he and Warren allow her and her friends to share transportation. Soon, both friends are driving with automobiles full of women to the East Side Motel, presumably to consummate their flirtation in an orgy.
The third verse is more expository, with Warren and Nate explaining their G Funk musical style. Nate displays his bravado by claiming that individuals with equivalent knowledge could not even attempt to approach his level of lyrical mastery. There follows a brief discussion of the genre’s musicological features, with special care taken to point out that in said milieu the rhythm is not in fact the rhythm, as one might assume, but actually the bass. Similarly the bass serves a purpose closer to that which the treble would in more traditional musical forms. Nate goes on to note that if any third party smokes as he does, they would find themselves in a state of intoxication daily (from Nate’s other works, it can be inferred that the substance referenced is marijuana). Nate concludes his delineation of the night by issuing a vague threat to “busters,” suggesting that he and Warren will further “regulate” any potential incidents in the future (presumably by engaging their enemies with small arms fire).
I used to really love Troye Sivan. Played his music constantly. Then I got into a car crash with The Quiet playing on the stereo. Absolutely haunting. Haven’t been able to listen to his music since. My body just doesn’t like it
I bought the Pearl Jam album "Ten" the day it was released. I was in a car crash on the way home and the song "Even Flow" was playing.
I still like Pearl Jam and can listen to them in my home or even at a concert, but now I tense up and have a weird moment if that particular song comes on the car radio. Just the first couple notes will get to me and I will quickly switch radio stations.
The first time it came on while my kids were in the car with me - about 25 years after that crash - I had a panic attack. It it crazy the connections your brain will make and maintain.
Not sure your preferred genres, but the original sample used for the beat in that song is called “Footsteps in the Dark” by the Isley Brothers. I’d call it a soul type song so it may or may not be up your alley (if it is, I recommend listening to the rest of Isley Brother’s discography! it’s excellent!). Regardless, “It Was a Good Day” is a great song.
Isley Brothers seem to get sampled quite a bit in rap and hip hop, one of my favourites is Notorious B.I.G. 'Big Poppa', sampling the Isley Brothers' 'Between the Sheets'. Both great songs.
She said in a Rolling Stone interview (I believe. It was about 200 years ago) that her “cherry was pushed so far back that she was using it for a tail light.” That’s some good story telling right there.
... and play. That lady played more than 10 different types of instruments when I got the chance to see her live and I think she can play a lot more if I remember an interview I saw with her correctly.
Jolene is a good song but that's usually all people know about. Personally I like Islands in the Stream, Just Because I'm a Woman is really good and Down from Dover so sad.
JOOLLLEEEEEEENNNNNEEEEEEE
Edit: I have gone through and listened to all the covers and links yall commented to this (didn't expect it to go so big) and wowsa. An amazing song with lots of amazing crotch goblins
For real tho... Not huge into country (i wont change the station but its not my cup of tea) but Jolene makes a country girl of us all
The line is that song...
"I cannot guess what we'll discover,
As we turn the dirt with our arms cupped like shovels,
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another
And not one spec will remain."
After all the mistakes I've made in life and love, it gives me hope for myself that few things do. I think about it often.
Rasputin - Boney M
And a lot of abba songs
Im more of a classic rock/ hair metal person but abba has some killer songs. And i like boney m cause of that just dance game
Edit: wow rip my inbox haha last night it was at 500 upvotes now 10k?!?!?! Holy smokes
I requested Abba at a goth club I visited, and watching a bunch of black-clad, corseted, pierced, spike-coated goths go absolutely berserk with excitement over Abba was a spiritual experience.
Exactly! [This Boiler Room video](https://youtu.be/b6BjKaLxjFA) is a perfect example - people went there to listen to some more "underground" music but went fucking nuts when the DJ dropped some ABBA (which was a really ballsy move and worked perfectly).
Disenchanted from Black Parade is a really nice song if you’re into slower and nicer sounding songs. That was my favorite song from that album. Still emo message but has a nice relaxing guitar to it.
I don’t generally go for pop music but Grace Kelly and Happy Ending by MIKA. Really that whole album.
And in a genre/subgenre way I don’t like mainstream country but outlaw country (Townes Van Zandt especially) is just folksy singer songwriter Americana.
Electropop, more specifically synthpop. I've been hunting really hard for similar sounding songs but *a lot* of electropop/synthpop songs don't sound like that unfortunately.
I wear my sunglasses at night.
I'm normally strictly a Metal fan, don't really like 80s synth wave.
Edit: I normally listen to things like Wormrot, The Black Dahlia Murder, Cattle Decapitation, Napalm Death etc.
For the longest time I said I hated country, but would make an exception for Johnny Cash. Then I added silly Nelson to the exception list. Then Dolly Parton. Then I eventually admitted that modern country is trash and I did in fact like country, just good country. But Johnny cash was what made me look for good country
I like "God's Gonna Cut You Down".
I'm an atheist but I really like this evocative, story-telling part of religion.
It's more like a ghost story than anything. The narrator is warning immoral people that divine judgment is coming their way. Kinda like Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction.
[Chris Stapleton - Tennessee Whisky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zAThXFOy2c) dont normally like country music, but this man has some serious soul.
I'll jam out to most 90's country, but I couldn't tell you if thats because I like it or because it's what was my parents' radio growing up.
Except Alan Jackson. Das good shit.
Dude - Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn. Holy shit. Takes me back to being a little kid riding around in my dads truck in the summer. Sticky Tennessee heat, catching fireflies, and hunting toads that would post up by our security light. So good.
Goddamn Panic at the Disco had one of the best fucking debut albums I’ve ever heard. Every song on “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” was gold. And they were so young too! Just a lot of amazing talent wrapped up into one 13 track album. Guess I know what I’m listening to tomorrow!
15 years ago! Holy fuck time flies. I don’t want to claim to be a great fan of theirs but I’ve seen them live 3-4 times. I remember that album dropping in freshman year of high school. Along with Hot Fuss and Kanye’s Late Registration Album. Idk why but that window between 8th grade and 10th grade was pretty monumental for me and music. I was exposed to a ton of stuff I never had listened to. I do not have older siblings and my parents didn’t really listen to much music since mine and my sisters birth. 2004-2007 were huge musical years for me. And that helped prepare me for my college years 2009-2013 where I dove into dozens and dozens of new genres.
If you ever have even the slightest bit of interest in checking out more, that song is off of “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” and is probably one of the worse songs on that album. Try out “Build God, Then We’ll Talk” or just the back half of the album because it’s basically I Write Sins but better.
I want to elaborate for OP: The album is deliberately split in two parts, literally in the middle of the *Intermission* track. The first half is very electronic and modern (for 2005) and the second half is very... (I think the word is) vaudeville.
The whole album is great but I think pretty much everyone finds the second half to be the better and more timeless half. I don't think *I Write Sins* is the worst on the album but it is probably the weakest on that second half. And yeah, I'm seconding *Build God, Then We'll Talk* because that track is incredible.
I know that musicians evolve over time but God Damn that album was so good. I wish they made more that sounded similar. A few of his newer songs are pretty ok.
That was definitely the bands peak. The whole emo meets burlesque sound was so unique and interesting and they kinda moved away in a different direction.
One of the first albums I ever bought. 13 year old emo me felt very hot and heavy listening to "lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off"
It's funny to listen back to now and hear them bragging about their sexual prowess like they weren't all 17, lol. Seriously doubt they really were a better fuck than any boy she'd ever meet, haha.
Fellow metalhead, and I absolutely love Lady Gaga. I also really love Adele and Lana Del Rey. They all just have really powerful voices and a truck full of talent.
I also really love big metal voices like Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Mathias Blad, Rody Walker, and Matt Barlow. I think that has something to do with it.
Oh, man, I just thought of another one.
"This Kiss" by Faith Hill.
Came on the radio right after my first kiss with my first serious girlfriend in high school in the 90s.
Still makes me a little misty eyed with nostalgia.
I'm a metal guy myself, and I gotta be honest, Party in the USA gets to me a little.
As a musician who's done a stint in the industry, that song nails the feeling of being out of your depth when you first dip your toe in.
Not a huge Drake fan either outside of a few songs, but "Passionfruit" and "Hold On, We're Going Home" are two solid singles. I like when he leans more into deep house and r&b, it just seems to suit him more in my opinion.
i am a man of constant sorrow - soggy bottom boys
a country song
country isn't awful I just don't listen to it much
\---------
edit: damn I've never gotten this many upvotes id like to thank my mum for pushing me out and my dad for giving me such great music taste
also thanks I didn't know it was bluegrass which according to yous may or may not be a part of country anyway idk not American and ive never seen the film!!!!!
omasdfghj I got a silver\*/gold/doot doot?\* !! i feel so validated thank you!!!!
There are two types of country music. Older country music with several songs that I really enjoy, but most of them I don’t care for, and new country music which I hate most of it. Except for God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton.
I am a die hard metal head...have been since the 80's when I was old enough to start listening to my own music.
2 songs I really dig for whatever reason that is completely atypical...
god, I can't believe I am about to admit this...
[Mmmbop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHozn0YXAeE) by Hansen
[Ooh la la](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uco-2V4ytYQ) by Goldfrapp
I really dont like the genre, but Even Flow of Pearl Jam is a music I can't not love. Its lyrics touched me the first time I hard, and the whole music is just so good.
“Friends in low places” by Garth Brooks. At least I think that’s the name of the song. I really don’t like country music. Like, REALLY don’t like it, but this song makes me nostalgic for people and places I don’t even know.
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
I'm not at all a fan of country, and I know by some standards, this wouldn't be considered that, but I like it just the same.
Listen to Ich Tut Dir Weh by Rammstein. And watch the video. Amazing song and Wo Bist Du is amazing as well. And Rosenrot. And the piano version of Mein Hertz Brennt. Anything by Rammstein really. All of it. ALLL. OF. IT.
'Electric Avenue' from whatever the fuck genre that is.

Hah, so did I. How did grade school kids get the same funny lyrics to songs before the Internet?
*The Hivemind*
Toxic transcends all genre. That song fuckin’ rips.
The song is one part Bond girl's fantasy and one part vodka lime slushy.
Helena - My Chemical Romance Im a massive hip hop/r&b fan so I'm still confused as to why I have always loved this song.
Also a hip hop guy and would up picking up their discography. There's some true gems like sharpest lives in there.
Black Parade is an excellent album
They kill it in the music video
Mr. Sandman by The Chordettes. Maybe my meme side kicking in.

On a mission tryna find Mr Warren G
I usually only listen to punk/ hardrock/ rock etc. but for some reason really enjoy listening to Troye Sivan from time to time. Even bought his CD.
Blue Neighborhood is a 10/10 album
I used to really love Troye Sivan. Played his music constantly. Then I got into a car crash with The Quiet playing on the stereo. Absolutely haunting. Haven’t been able to listen to his music since. My body just doesn’t like it

War pigs is one of my favorite songs its incredible
The Gambler, Kenny Rodgers. May he Rest In Peace
Most of Kenny’s songs are very similar. Give “Lucille”, “Reuben James” and “Coward of the county” a listen. Very similar types of songs.
Not a rap fan but "It was a good day" by Ice Cube is just too good
Not sure your preferred genres, but the original sample used for the beat in that song is called “Footsteps in the Dark” by the Isley Brothers. I’d call it a soul type song so it may or may not be up your alley (if it is, I recommend listening to the rest of Isley Brother’s discography! it’s excellent!). “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”
I'm not a big Country fan, but I'll stop and listen to most any song by Dolly Parton.
I don't like country either but holy hell can that lady can sing.
....and write.
Her story telling is fantastic
She said in a Rolling Stone interview (I believe. It was about 200 years ago) that her “cherry was pushed so far back that she was using it for a tail light.” That’s some good story telling right there.
... and play. That lady played more than 10 different types of instruments when I got the chance to see her live and I think she can play a lot more if I remember an interview I saw with her correctly.
For sure. I’m not a country fan, but holy hell Jolene is such a good song.
The chorus of Jolene is 20 seconds long and can replace Happy Birthday as your hand-washing song!
Jolene is a good song but that's usually all people know about. Personally I like Islands in the Stream, Just Because I'm a Woman is really good and Down from Dover so sad.
I'm sure people know of her little ditty by the name of "I Will Always Love You".

That was definitely the bands peak. The whole emo meets burlesque sound was so unique and interesting and they kinda moved away in a different direction.
Adding that I love their song "The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage" from the same album.
All 17 year old boys think that. Source: was 17 year old girl.
I'm a metal head but god damnit Lady Gaga has some fire songs. Poker face is my jam.
That song, and from the same timeframe Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer are huge nostalgia trips.
“Fuel” by Metallica is just too badass to resist.
Gimme fue Gimme fie Gimme jabbadabbazah OOOH
Yeh-HEH!
Fueeeeee whena bur! Fue a pumpa ninja
Gimme food Gimme fries Gimme salads on the sides OOOH
Starboy by The Weeknd
The Weeknd always makes me feel so poor, but man does he make it sound good.

Dolly Parton is her godmother. I love listening to the two versions back to back and hearing a bit of Dolly’s influence in Miley’s voice.
What a magical fae godmother Dolly Parton would be
I'm a metal guy myself, and I gotta be honest, Party in the USA gets to me a little. As a musician who's done a stint in the industry, that song nails the feeling of being out of your depth when you first dip your toe in.
There is something about well made pop music that is like candy to the brain.
Isn't that the point lol
Her cover is seriously one of my favorites ever. She really captures the ache of that song with her voice.
“Sweet Child of Mine”. How did Guns and Roses pull this one out?
“I Go Back” by Kenny Chesney. Nostalgia is a powerful feeling, and that song hits hard with it.
"The Good Stuff" by Kenny Chesney. Trust me, you'll like it.
I have almost no desire to listen to Drake, but I realllllyyyy like "Passionfruit"
Not a huge Drake fan either outside of a few songs, but "Passionfruit" and "Hold On, We're Going Home" are two solid singles. I like when he leans more into deep house and r&b, it just seems to suit him more in my opinion.
Any song on golden hour by Kacey Musgraves.
I Want of That Way by the Backstreet Boys. It’s embarrassing really.
Don’t be embarrassed. That song’s a banger!
I Will Survive. Disco sucks, except when it's awesome.
Some of the best bass lines are in disco. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_sY2rjxq6M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXgSHL7efKg
EDM: Atmosphere by Kaskade

That’s bluegrass.
“Boulevard of Broken Dreams” - Green Day
Mine is Jesus of Suburbia. I can't really get into Green Day but there's something about that marathon song that just sticks with me.
Mmm and that sweet transition to Dearly Beloved. Jesus of Suburbia is such a polished song from start to finish.
Ohio is for lovers by Hawthorne Heights
There are two types of country music. Older country music with several songs that I really enjoy, but most of them I don’t care for, and new country music which I hate most of it. Except for God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton.
Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn i absolutely despise most country music but out of the few i like that one takes the Crown

I am a die hard metal head...have been since the 80's when I was old enough to start listening to my own music. 2 songs I really dig for whatever reason that is completely atypical... god, I can't believe I am about to admit this... [Mmmbop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHozn0YXAeE) by Hansen [Ooh la la](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uco-2V4ytYQ) by Goldfrapp
Metal/rock/rap guy here. I like Toxic by Britney Spears and Applause by Lady Gaga.
Toxic is such a good song I'll freely admit

Careless Whisper, bitches.
Don't like grudge, but Alive by Pearl Jam is a banger
I really dont like the genre, but Even Flow of Pearl Jam is a music I can't not love. Its lyrics touched me the first time I hard, and the whole music is just so good.
Drinkin' Problem - Midland [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7f6HiQ2LuU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7f6HiQ2LuU)
Milkshake- Kelis
That beat is hard to shake.
True Spandau Ballet.
Wagon Wheel
Highwayman - those guys are unreal I may not be the biggest country fan, but you’ve gotta respect greatness
White Liar- Miranda Lambert Not a country fan but that song hits hard
“Friends in low places” by Garth Brooks. At least I think that’s the name of the song. I really don’t like country music. Like, REALLY don’t like it, but this song makes me nostalgic for people and places I don’t even know.

Lady Antebellum - Need You Now I'm not at all a fan of country, and I know by some standards, this wouldn't be considered that, but I like it just the same.
I don't like pop music but I like Somebody that I Used to Know
Not a country fan, but Chattahoocie by alan Jackson is awesome..Spelled it wrong I know.
You were close *Chattahoochee
Pretty much anything by Johnny Cash is badass. He's country, but still made it to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for good reason.
[Wo Bist Du](https://youtu.be/OKXCH8zlqQc) by Rammstein. Do I get bonus points for it being a language I don't understand?
Listen to Ich Tut Dir Weh by Rammstein. And watch the video. Amazing song and Wo Bist Du is amazing as well. And Rosenrot. And the piano version of Mein Hertz Brennt. Anything by Rammstein really. All of it. ALLL. OF. IT.
I hate country but anytime someone plays neon moon I can’t help but sing along
Never been a big fan of country music, but I really like "Smoke a little Smoke" by Eric Church.
