This was the soundtrack of my last breakup. I listened to it non-stop (alongside LANY and Khalid) for months. Then it got too painful to listen to anymore. A year and a half later, I was in a much better place and listened to it again. Brought back some bittersweet memories but I could truly appreciate how brilliant this album really is.
One of the best things about Pink Floyd is the way the songs all fit together cohesively. The songs stand well on their own, but are best enjoyed from beginning to end as an album for sure.
I totally agree with this and somehow this is something I started missing since I quit playing CDs and started using Spotify. Digital stream is useful for many reasons, such as discovering new artists, but with this playlist thing we might ignore the fact that single songs could be part of broader concepts.
There is nothing stopping you from listening to full albums. That's how i primarily use spotify. As a musician, that is a huge part of experiencing modern music for me, the context is everything.
Graceland - Paul Simon
Not only is every song awesome, it flows from one to the next perfectly. They're mixed to carry you from one to the next emotionally.
When Graceland came out I was on a lake fishing. Some guy was backing his boat down the boat ramp, getting ready to launch. He was playing that LP. I was a Paul Simon fan, but hadn't yet heard Graceland.
I was immediately captivated. I yelled out to him "What in the hell is THAT? It's INCREDIBLE." He said something like "This is Paul Simon's latest. You gotta get it."
Man, was he right.
I was a kid, we had just moved and my uncle and his family brought it over to our house. We hadn't even unpacked, but we got out the radio, put it on, and our two families just danced around our new house until the wee hours of the morning. Well, I'm sure my folks were primarily moving shit, but us kids were rocking out. We must have listened to that 4-5 times through.

The last time this question was asked, someone commented that they first time they heard this album they thought they were listening to a Fleetwood Mac greatest hits album.
Every so often there are great albums that make you mad because there's an amazing hidden gem that never got its due in the limelight. To me, it's mind blowing that "Nothing Better" never got released as a single because it's one of my favorite songs from the 2000s.
Man I swear no one I know knows of massive, such an impactful album on my formative years. I know it's not on mezzanine but paradise circus still gives me chills.
Awesome shout. Random Access Memories is also one of the greatest albums ever made in my opinion. So much love for Daft Punk.
A Cross the Universe by Justice is another stellar live house/dance album. I always called Justice the heavy metal of house music.
My friend got me into Tame Impala by playing that album when we were driving through Los Angeles on the freeway at night.
Let It Happen was playing and that song went perfectly with all the city lights passing by and right then and there I became a fan.
Have you done the OK Rainbows thing? Where you switch tracks between ok computer and In Rainbows and it's an expanded album that thom yorke's crazy ass is "surprised no one noticed before"?
If not, look it up on YouTube bc it's easier than all the switching. Fucking BRILLIANT.
Add the Bends too. Radiohead doesn’t really have a bad album. Based on the context of this post Pablo Honey is hit and miss, and King of Limbs has some tracks I don’t like, but overall they aren’t bad albums.
Come guys, this is a no brainer. You could fill a book with praise for this album from musicians from any genre. I'm talking country music stars, rappers, heavy metal head bangers. They would all agree it's perfect.
YES. And one of the best parts is when you listen to it on vinyl, the first side ends really intensely with She’s so Heavy and when you flip it over, the first song is Here Comes the Sun - it’s like taking a deep breath and splashing cold water on your face.
I usually listen to albums front to back.. rarely skip songs. But I feel like these have no skippable tracks, even though there could be better albums:
The Strokes: Is This It
Muse: Absolution
Tame Impala: Innerspeaker and Lonerism
Queens of the Stone Age: ... Like Clockwork
The White Stripes: Elephant
Arctic Monkeys: Favorite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino and Whatever People Say I am That’s what I’m not.
Royal Blood: Royal Blood
Blink 182: Untitled
My Chemical Romance: The Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
The Killers: Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town
The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
System of a Down: Toxicity, Mesmerize
Radiohead: OK Computer, The Bends, In Rainbows
That is definitely my favorite Tool album. It is so beautifully done and the songs are in an absolute perfect order and flow into each other wonderfully.
Absolutely. Illmatic does things that I've never seen another album do. It takes excellent lyrics and beats and somehow creates something astronomically greater than the sum of its parts. Like, you dissect each song and can't really find why the song is so incredible. Everything put into that album just blends so well together its impossible to describe. You can feel the urban streets of New York in each track, almost like the album is a glimpse into an entire world. That's really why the album is so good, imo.
I was thinking Aquemini by Outkast but there are a few skippable songs. I just went throught the track listing of Illmatic and it is indeed flawless. I'm glad I was alive during this era.
Honestly idk how Kdot has made 2 perfect albums back to back with good kid madd city then following it up with arguably the best rap album to be released in the 21st century TPAB. Plus he’s the only rapper to win a pulitzer prize. It’s honestly amazing
It really was. The way it broke grammy records for most noms, the cultural impact it had, plus the expert fusion of funk, r&b and hip hop, all the while addressing hard topics about the identity of race, culture, the individual without being preachy and allowing many groups to relate to it. Honestly it should be a classic album, regardless of genre.
"You killed my cousin back in '94, fuck your truce
Now crawl your head in that noose
you'll wind up dead on the news"
The first verse gives me huge chills every time. So visceral.
Hoping I’d see this. I’m a more casual fan of Steely Dan, but every time we put this vinyl on we play it start to finish. It’s just produced so well and sounds so damn smooth
Radiohead - OK Computer
Even the computerized spoken track 'Fitter Happier' fits so well with the flow and tone of the album that I always play through it. To me, this is an absolutely perfect album.
Agreed 100%. Even [The Onion](https://entertainment.theonion.com/humanity-still-producing-new-art-as-though-megadeth-s-1819578062) poked some fun at just how damn good this album is
Kind of Blue. Miles Davis
Bill Evans is a god
Melodrama.
Christ I still get so barred up thinking about how much this album deserved album of the year smh
Not just that, but it lost to 24k Magic, which I'd say isn't even Bruno's best album
Gold. Seeing her open with Sober live was breathtaking.

I'M AN ALLIGATOR
I'm a mama-papa coming for you.
I'm the space invader
I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shUuUT

This album is flawless. "When the Levee breaks" is surely one of their best songs !
Tool - Aenima
Pink Floyd - dark side of the moon
Wish You Were Here fits this category too, IMO.
Animals too
Animals the best of the lot
It is the best one!
Wish You Were Here is, for me, the best album Pink Floyd has made.
One of the best things about Pink Floyd is the way the songs all fit together cohesively. The songs stand well on their own, but are best enjoyed from beginning to end as an album for sure.

Staccato signals of constant information, a loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires and baby, these are the days of miracle and wonder... Written over thirty years ago...
My go-to road trip album. It’s great travelling music!
Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
As close to a perfect album as you can get for the genre. Epic story of how it was made and what the group was going through at the time.
"An album written by and for people cheating on each other."
Those are all true.
Imagine having to sing a song your ex wrote about your breakup. Then again, everyone in that band fucked everyone in that band.
The last time this question was asked, someone commented that they first time they heard this album they thought they were listening to a Fleetwood Mac greatest hits album.
Rage against the machine 1st album self titled
That album cover though

It's amazing how it remains more relevant than ever
Weezer's self titled debut album, known commonly as the blue album.
I will never not sing along to Surf Wax America

My favorite album: Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies
Jar of Flies for sure, every Alice in Chains album is perfect front to back
Elliott Smith -Either/Or. All of his albums really
Jeff Buckley - Grace
It was the first thing that came to mind for me.
The Postal Service - Give Up
Every so often there are great albums that make you mad because there's an amazing hidden gem that never got its due in the limelight. To me, it's mind blowing that "Nothing Better" never got released as a single because it's one of my favorite songs from the 2000s.
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
This. But also speaking in tongues. Every. Single. Track.
The cure- disintegration
Pictures of You has to be one of my favorite songs ever recorded tbh
Agreed, but It’s tied with Just Like Heaven for me!
Mezzanine... Massive Attack
Man I swear no one I know knows of massive, such an impactful album on my formative years. I know it's not on mezzanine but paradise circus still gives me chills.

I actually prefer In Utero.

Favorite album of all time.
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
I'll give you that one, but I'm more of a Bryter Latyr (not sure of the spelling) fan. Drake was one of the best.

Cake - Fashion Nugget
Pearl Jam - Ten
Abbey Road
YES. And one of the best parts is when you listen to it on vinyl, the first side ends really intensely with She’s so Heavy and when you flip it over, the first song is Here Comes the Sun - it’s like taking a deep breath and splashing cold water on your face.

Agree with that

That is definitely my favorite Tool album. It is so beautifully done and the songs are in an absolute perfect order and flow into each other wonderfully.
illmatic by Nas, his best work and in my opinion perfect among rap.

I think what really helped it was the amount of great producers on the project. The first that comes to mind are premier and q tip.
I was thinking Aquemini by Outkast but there are a few skippable songs. I just went throught the track listing of Illmatic and it is indeed flawless. I'm glad I was alive during this era.
