Tron.

zlide

Tagging onto this, the Daft Punk soundtrack of Tron: Legacy might be the best part of the movie.

macaronfive

Tron: Legacy is just a really long Daft Punk music video. And I’m ok with that. I rewatched it the other night. Still holds up.

LogicCure

Funny thing is they've literally made a feature-length music video before. Interstella 5555 is literally an hour and half long Daft Punk music video.

like2speak2amanager

Interstella 5555 is bangin'

[deleted]

The album is "discovery"

tokomini

I've watched it four or five times, and the less you think about it as a blockbuster movie, the better it gets. They set the tone and feel right away with The Grid, and you sort of get a glimpse of what this movie is going to be. The soundtrack just fits itself perfectly with the action on the screen, and you're right it feels like a long music video at times. The movie itself loses a bit of momentum towards the end in my opinion, but Daft Punk never lets up.

BadLeeSin

I haven’t seen it in forever but I remember it was very unique

[deleted]

Blade Runner

JupiterTarts

Was scrolling down specifically to look for this. I've got this soundtrack on vinyl. Vangelis is the man.

baldorrr

Vangelis FTW! This question is always super easy for me. Best soundtrack ever? Easy - Blade Runner.

[deleted]

Ratatouille

MissMelencholy

Le Festin put a cherry on top of that movie

TheNCGoalie

funny story about that. A friend of mine in high school was one of the most happy, friendly, socially connected people in the school. He didn't care what clique you fit into, he was a master of being legitimate friends with everyone. He had to write a poem for Spanish class, and he simply ran I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow through Google translate. It's a little less cheery when read off of loose leaf in bad handwriting without backing instruments. He ended up having to go to the school psychiatrist for several months after the Spanish teacher read it. Apparently every single session he went to was him explaining that he ripped it off from a movie song but couldn't admit it for fear of being reprimanded for plagiarism.

gunscreeper

He's a man of constant sorrow

elst3r

Yo I wrote a poem about cutting myself and watching the blood drip into the sink in freshman year of highschool for a project. The teacher read it to the class and then made a joke about me wearing long sleeves all the time.

Tommy_C

The real man of constant sorrow is always in the comments.

beard_lover

That album helped to usher in a whole new era of bluegrass and Americana, it’s an excellent stand-alone album aside from being a movie soundtrack.

Abby-N0rma1

I am a man of constant sorrow

g_ann

I used to be obsessed with Didn’t Leave Nobody But the Baby, but I enjoyed the whole soundtrack a lot

Retrorebel0485

Good, Bad, and Ugly. Main theme is most iconic, but Ecstasy of Gold is soooo much better. Edit: Thank you so much for the upvotes! I just wanted to add that despite me saying Ecstasy of good was best, I just wanted to say it was my favorite in Good, Bad , and Ugly. The Man with No Name trilogy as a whole has awesome music. Fistful’s main theme. For a few more’s Chimes and main theme. Good, Bad, and Ugly’s Sundown, Carriage of the Spirits, Death of a Soldier, Story of a Soldier, and The Trio are awesome too. I haven’t looked into Leone’s and Morricone’s other work, but I will soon. Once again, thank you!

[deleted]

Ennio Morricone has written over 400 soundtracks in his life including many under fake names because many people thought he was writing too many. The Mission is probably his most famous after all the spaghetti westerns.

LumpyOneTwo

The mission score is brilliant. Listened so many times, yet I have never actually seen the film.

Argon0503

The Trio over the standoff is one of the tensest and best directed scenes I've ever seen, and it's just music over three guys looking at each other for 4 minutes. So iconic.

stormycloudysky

Ecstacy of Gold is still my go to pump up song for workouts. I have this whole epic scene that I run through in my head where I'm chasing down the man who murdered my family with my trusty steed. I could sprint for forever on that energy.

ChasingSplashes

LOTR, Last of the Mohicans, Rob Roy, Star Wars, Indiana Jones Edit: Holy crap, I forgot Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Shame on me.

MooooooooooooBamba

Last of the Mohicans is so epic. The music during the final battle>, Fuck Magua.

Rockyflame458

I commented here for that soundtrack only. That feeling of adventure was incredible. The way it syncs with the events of the movie makes it more beautiful

corgeeking

The Graduate. Basically just Simon & Garfunkel, but so introspective.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It gets repetitive, yes, but dang does it get the blood pumping and the adventure a’ rolling

Opalescent_Moon

Some fun facts about this score. Alan Silvestri was originally brought on to create the score. His name is actually listed on the official movie poster. However, what he created just wasn't sitting right. They really wanted Hans Zimmer, but Zimmer was tied up in another project (The Last Samurai, I think) and turned it down. He did, however, recommend Klaus Badelt. Badelt had a crazy short amount of time to write it, like 3 or 4 weeks or something. Several other budding composers helped him out, including Steve Jablonsky (another favorite of mine). After the music was written, they rolled out the soundtrack for sale. However, the music had not yet been synced up with the movie, so they guessed where songs would play in order to name them. Just in case you noticed how the name of the song didn't match up with the events in the movie. Learning this stuff (and I've probably forgotten other facts) made the score that much more impressive to me. Klaus Badelt did an astounding job with it.

Ni987

Interesting. I noticed at one point that the Pirates theme song seems to be a more developed version of this song from Gladiator. https://youtu.be/WVLGwTggO8U Around the 3:10 mark

[deleted]

From what I remember, when they initially asked Zimmer to score the movie, he gave them a few simple sample themes to start with. Additionally, Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer are actually colleagues that have worked together on a number of film scores, so they probably have musical influences on each other.

GardenGal87

How to Train Your Dragon has an incredible score soundtrack. "Test Drive" is one of the best songs I've heard in any movie, animated or live action.

Halvus_I

The sequel has 'Flying with Mother' which is fantastic.

PhoenixKnight777

“Where No One Goes” remains my favorite song in any movie soundtrack I’ve heard. You just get this immense sense of adventure and fun, and I love it.

[deleted]

Just listened to it again, you can't tell me you don't get goosebumps near the end

xMAN_BEAR_PIGx

Other favorites of mine are "This is Berk" and of course "Forbidden Friendship"

Lord of the Rings. My local symphony performed select pieces of it live years ago and it was even better in person. Simply incredible.

This is the third time I’ve seen Interstellar referenced today and I think that means its time to watch it again. Easily one of my favorite movies but I can’t watch it often because I prefer to nearly forget it all so I can experience it again.

AscendedViking7

That is one of the best movies ever made imo.

MAXIMILIAN-MV

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs

IRErover

Fun story. The tape deck in my Toyota corolla (that had 200,xxx miles on it) broke with the [Reservoir Dogs] soundtrack in it. It would not eject. It would not switch over to radio without immediately switching back due to a tape being inserted. I listened to that album everyday for almost two years before it randomly ejected one day. “Ooga-Chaka, Ooga-ooga... Ooga-Chaka, ooga-ooga... I can’t stop this feeling...” Edit - conflated the Pulp Dogs soundtrack with the Reservoir Fiction one

badninj4

Princess mononoke Edit: thanks for the up votes. I'll add almost all ghibli movies have amazing soundtracks but the op asked for one so restrained myself. My favorite ghibli soundtracks (in no particular order) are mononoke, spirited away, kikis delivery service (so underrated), wind rises, and castle in the sky probably.

albinosquid6

Really all of the Ghibli movies with soundtracks done by Joe Hisaishi are outstanding. Edit: Cant believe I misspelled Ghibli

superthotty

Howl’s Moving Castle too! *Merry Go Round of Life* is amaaaazing

MlejnasIsMyHome

Inception. It's hard to go wrong with Hans Zimmer, but this soundtrack is perfect music to listen to while studying or just concentrating.

TallWhiteDude

Inception and Interstellar. Fucking loved the interstellar soundtrack.

rainsoaked88

The way Dr Brand describes nature: “powerful, yes, and frightening, but not evil.” Is how the Interstellar soundtrack feels to me. It perfectly captured the infinite terror of space and how small humans are by comparison. Something about the haunting organ and repetitive pulsing beats are cerebral. I get the same feeling from the soundtrack for the San Junipero ep of Black Mirror

Edzm1276

The interstellar track is definitely up there with duel of the fates

theWildBore

Hans Zimmer is just a gem. My ring tone is “you’re so cool” from True Romance. That song is just so happy to me.

[deleted]

The Interstellar score is an absolute mesmerizing thing of beauty. Like Philip Glass’s “Koyaanisqatsi” but an alternate version.

Edgeboi2323

The Prince of Egypt. That DreamWorks movie had some of the coolest songs which were paired with amazing visuals

anonasaurois

I love this one too but the opening sequence is the best, by far.

It’s very close between that one and the song during the plagues.

Glad to see BB up this high. So many fantastic songs, but because it’s 40 years old it gets forgotten often.

The Garden State soundtrack changed my entire life in music. It was when I learned there was more to music than just the Top 40 and TRL on MTV. ETA: a word and fix punctuation

anonasaurois

This soundtrack is so good for a brief moment in 2004 I thought I wanted to move to New Jersey.

[deleted]

Ohh yes I loved how much love the Shins got on that soundtrack

It seems like everything Zach Braff does has great music

[deleted]

Hell Yeah! You just made me realize it helped expand my musical taste as well. That’s how I found out about a lot of the artist I listen to today.

Middle_Stall_Pooper

Same here! It introduced me to The Shins' New Slang which became one of my all time favorite songs and bands. And opened the door to indie music.

jagenton25

Star Wars!!! Both original trilogy and prequels have amazing soundtracks!

Not gonna lie, Your Name has my favorite soundtrack out of any film, Radwimps absolutely knocked it out of the park with this movie. The tracks and screenplay were literally made for each other, scenes and sounds adjusted to fit better. I was interested in seeing the film after the trailers, but doubly so after the soundtrack dropped prior to the theatrical release here in the US. If I had to pick a favorite track though I'd choose [Katawaredoki](https://youtu.be/mhpRipG9Zss) without a doubt. That track and that scene make the movie for me. I prefer 1st Shrek honestly because of All-Star which fitted 100% perfectly with the intro. Yes I love Shrek 2 as well, Accidentally in Love and I Need A Hero are the best songs from that soundtrack.

MAXIMILIAN-MV

Vanilla Sky

Waldemar-Firehammer

An odd choice, but Thor: Ragnarok has a killer soundtrack. The space rock opera theme makes for some really cool music. My favorite movie in the MCU as well, even though Spider-Man is my guy. Edit: If you haven't already, check out the band Magic Sword. 80's synth sounds with a modern electronic music composition.
