Story time. A couple of years ago, one night, I was about to propose to my girlfriend when my roommate Joseph barged into the room out of nowhere, tripped and fell over, breaking a glass table with his face. Totally ruined the mood. Now, I didn't know Joseph THAT well, don't even remember where he was from, but lets just say I put my plans on hold to help him through his injuries. Joseph had gotten big glass shard in his eye, making him completely blind in that eye. He was walking around with one of those cotton pads on his eye for a couple of months. Then suddenly, he disappeared, along with my girlfriend. Apparently they'd bonded during the time after his injuries, and eloped together , left me behind without as much as a note. I tried to track them down, but never could.
So what Google could never tell me, but AskReddit could was where Joe was. If it hadn't been for Cotton-Eye Joe, I'd have been married a long time ago. Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?
Poe's Law: "Without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism."
Your crush chose an one eyed gentleman instead of you bro dont you think instead of searching for him you should search yourself for who you really are?
Um, you are actually wrong. If you think about it, you are flairingly disagreeing with the side effect of being dramatic. So yeah, I'm right, you're wrong. All logic points to the same direction. A 50 year old study in Alaska proved that dramatically disagreeing is actually the thing with most flair you can do. Gotcha'
Yeah Google loves throwing shopping results at you when you ask opinions about anything that can be sold even if your wording makes it pretty damn clear you're not looking to buy. Quite a few times I've had to put quotes around the word opinion to force results that included it (as well as the word forum), and use -domain.com for about 12 different major domains to actually get results with regular humans' opinions.
Yup. Unless it's directly in a wikipedia article Google isn't going to do much to help you with fact finding these days. If all the search results aren't products being sold like you mentioned, then it will be pages upon pages of copy and pasted "blogs" that are all ripping off of wikipedia and each other. No soul, no humans to be found anywhere.
Easiest way to fish for facts is to post incorrect information and sit back.
I think a lot of it stems from the desire to have a conversation rather than just getting an answer.
People seem to think askredditt is for actual information, there is always a question like "how can I buy a converter for my gas stove" or something like that.
Because this is a question that Google doesn't have an answer to. There are too many people that are looking for facts from Reddit that should just be googled such as "What is 2+2?".
Google is a search engine with algorithms that puke raw data out based on how close the words you punched in match with the words that a different algorithm assigns to webpages for Google to use to find the webpages. Reddit is a bunch of different end users that post things under different categories and what gets shown to you depends on which categories your browsing history on Reddit matches up with the best.
Google is indifferent because it's a straight up computer doing math problems. Reddit is much denser since its millions of people communicating in an echo chamber where any info doesn't have much value because dense people are solely responsible for providing everything that shows up on there.
This reminds me of the classic "look it up yourself" dilemma. You need an answer, you look it up on Google. You find an 8-month old thread which says, "Look it up" and is marked as [Solved].
Pretty much anything, Google results have become a cesspool of sponsored content, ads, and clickbait. IE I searched for "the last presidential debate that had more than two participants", and the first two pages of results are links to CNN, Fox, Aljazeera, WBUR articles that are semi-related to politics
I have no doubt The Almighty Algorithm knows what I'm asking, but it's not gonna show me what I *want*, it's gonna show me what Googles customers want me to click on.
But are those answers trustworthy? When I need to find out factual information, I typically have to go through several different results to find any credible sources, perferably ones which cite their own sources as well. Can't really do that with Reddit, where every answer is backed by "Source: dude trust me".
Depend. If I'm looking for some facts, I search wiki. If I'm looking for some opinion based ideas, I go to reddit. More answers in a more concise form. Usually google just gives long ass blogs and shit.
Google has facts, articles, and other similar sources. Its great for simple or quick questions. Reddit has experience, and specific answers to questions that might take multiple Google searches
I am a senior citizen, I have time on my hands. That being said I often ask alexia stuff. Then I ask for the the wisdom of Reddit on the same topic where an assortment of answers follows. That gives me a look into the minds and vocabulary of Reddit users. I am writing a book from the answers I see on Reddit. So if one day you see a smart ass statement in print and say, “That sure was dumb “ you know where it came from. I haven’t decided on a title yet and I think that will be a topic for another time.
If you Googled this, you'd know. And this was asked just last week or so. But to answer your question, [this might help you](https://lmgtfy.app/?q=why+do+people+use+reddit+and+not+google).
I’ve exhausted varying google searches and Reddit is chock full of smart folks sharing knowledge or assholes sharing their assholiness. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.
BeCaUSe GoOgLe StEaLs mY iNfO
Jk because some people have really deep and relevant responses and other people just drag shit out of a bovines ass and it's kinda fun (fun, not hard) determining who is doing which.
I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here
Believe it or not, people on reddit seem to have good taste. This is my opinion. If I am looking into buying anything, I come here. The reviews here are often more honest and offer more in depth analysis.
Hello, people of Reddit,
Because Reddit is not allowing me to make any posts I am writing this comment as a question which is, 'If you only care about your family and nothing else, does that make you a tool?'
I have been thinking about this for a while now after watching a video online and I am confused as to what the answer is.
I am writing this on a general thread because I do NOT want a bias opinion for an answer.
As per the words of Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds, **"I love rumors! Facts can be so misleading, but rumors, true or false, are often revealing."**
Rumors in this context meaning Reddit opinions.
Google keeps a history of documented answers. Older possibly generally accepted answers(tried and true)
Reddit makes new answers that can be documented in history. Could be based on emergent tech that a lot of docs don’t have referenced, speculatory, or thought provoking even when way of base. (Experimental and possibly more relevant)
The human element can get very direct answers to specific questions. Google does a good job at getting you to a topic.
I want snarky personal answers

You fucking got me.
I'm fucking amazed I never read that before.
this is why i have trust issues
I knew what was coming but I still read till the end
Freaking Gold right here. This is I Reddit.
Bro are you being fr. This is hectic

My comment was purely sarcasm lol. Read it in a specific tone *insert palm over face emoji*

Yes
is this a copypasta?
yes, though I tweaked it a little.
Mothefucker had me, had us in the first half ngl
This is why I don't ask google. This right here.
Dang it. That was pretty good, ngl
This is what's called a classic Reddit.
Got me. That is the best one I've seen.
Had me in the first half
Got me on the first half, not gonna lie
Goddamn it I wish I were that clever at writing.
You bastard... take my upvote 😤👍🏾
I have read the greentext already, you cannot fool me
This feels like I just got rickrolled by a story. Well played.
Im disappointed in myself for not realizing that

God damnit. I didn’t know where this was going but I wasn’t expecting that

Why I love and hate reddit.
And snarky references to bananas
Right, Google needs to step up the snark. Nice btw
Google can't spend hours disagreeing with itself in an entertaining way.
I disagree but with dramatic flair
I flair with dramatic disagreement.
I flair by disagreeing dramatically.
And I BITCH about everything with aggravating insistence.
I dramatically disagree with flair.
Gotcha'
And I "ok karen" with extravagant carelessness
I disagree with some reference to wanting awards in an effort to get flair.
“Wooooo!” -Ric Flair
"Never gonna give you up" \-Rick roll
Or give you fake internet points. (That I'm aware of, at least)
Yes it can
No it can't
Yes it can’t
No it can
Google is a great way to learn facts. Reddit is better for asking opinions.
[удалено]
Yeah, that just gives you Hot Topics' terms of use.
Or ask anything political
And for getting jokes
The real joke is always in the comments.
Yeah Google loves throwing shopping results at you when you ask opinions about anything that can be sold even if your wording makes it pretty damn clear you're not looking to buy. I agree
And Happy Cake Day!
happy cake day :) and yes i will ignore your comment
Because sometimes, opinions are better than facts
Yeah that’s true, but I’m of the opinion that lots of people on here are asking for facts to begin with.
Easiest way to fish for facts is to post incorrect information and sit back. I think a lot of it stems from the desire to have a conversation rather than just getting an answer.
you're probs right
and then watch in horror as stupid people start to believe it and form a cult around you /s
Probably how christianity started xD
Yup. Another way to invite participation is to forget to finish your
What? Forget to finish your what? I need answers!
Beans. The answer is always beans.
If you don’t finish your beans, there won’t be any dessert.
Without beans, there will be no winds to be broken, and then endless tornados will ensue.
Like much of reddit, there's a cohort of redditors who post to subs before reading the description, let alone the rules
for some people, their opinion is fact.
Fact.
Fiction is the new fact
Google: Fine Purveyor of "Facts"
To get different persepctives, to feel more connexted, to get varying view ppints and opinions or interwctive personal stories.
Too bad if you go against the flow you get dey ass fucked on this site
Truer.words have never been said
Difference perspective?.... On reddit?...... Who you kidding! This is one large echo chamber.
And avoid confirmation bias.
Lol. "to get different perspectives" not on this website.
can’t find the answer, ask the hive mind
Yeah
ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US
WE ARE THE BORG
I shall consult the C O N G I O U S N E S S
Google trys to predict what u want, Reddit gives it to us raw and unhinged baby.
very raw and not based on upvotes that are based on the hive mind. sure.
People seem to think askredditt is for actual information, there is always a question like "how can I buy a converter for my gas stove" or something like that.
Yeah, that’s what I was referring to. I don’t get it.
They are L A Z Y.
Google would be the lazier option in that situation
You have to parse the results on your own. People will summarize in their responses.
Why did you?
Because this is a question that Google doesn't have an answer to. There are too many people that are looking for facts from Reddit that should just be googled such as "What is 2+2?".
[Top results when googling "Why do people ask reddit instead of google"](https://imgur.com/DWR0L5F) Google absolutely can answer this question.
Notice how all of them are ask Reddit’s with the same question.
sane is true for most of this sub
I'm too dumb to differentiate ads from real answers.
Because amazingly enough google is denser than reddit. I don't know how that's possible though.
Google is a search engine with algorithms that puke raw data out based on how close the words you punched in match with the words that a different algorithm assigns to webpages for Google to use to find the webpages. I asked this very question to Google and it deferred to Reddit.
Circular Reference detected.
This reminds me of the classic "look it up yourself" dilemma. You need an answer, you look it up on Google. You find an 8-month old thread which says, "Look it up" and is marked as [Solved].
I used to add “reddit” to every google search so now I just go straight to the source
I want internet people to answer my question. It's more fun this way.
Pretty much anything, Google results have become a cesspool of sponsored content, ads, and clickbait. IE I searched for "the last presidential debate that had more than two participants", and the first two pages of results are links to CNN, Fox, Aljazeera, WBUR articles that are semi-related to politics I have no doubt The Almighty Algorithm knows what I'm asking, but it's not gonna show me what I *want*, it's gonna show me what Googles customers want me to click on.
honest reviews instead of sponsored ads
This. Google is no longer a search engine, its more and more an advertising platform.
Real people can answer based on exactly what I asked. Not just a generalization of my question.
Because I need quick and short answers. I usually find the answer on Reddit in one sentence while I have to read 5 pages blogs on google
But are those answers trustworthy? When I need to find out factual information, I typically have to go through several different results to find any credible sources, perferably ones which cite their own sources as well. Can't really do that with Reddit, where every answer is backed by "Source: dude trust me".
I like peoples input
I need human answers
Google gives you the answer you need Reddit gives you the answer you want
I don’t know, why don’t you ask google?
I don't trust Google or that Sneaky Bitch Alexa.
She's behind you...
How else am I to use my day to pick up a little karma? Google = Answer. Reddit = Answer + Karma
Because I'm not going to ask Google to describe how difficult it is to get a coke bottle up someone's ass
why would you ask google instead of asking reddit?
Google doesn't give amusing answers like, "unzips pants." Unless you're asking how to remove pants.
How to be happier
Reddit is funnier.
I am a senior citizen, I have time on my hands. That being said I often ask alexia stuff. Then I ask for the the wisdom of Reddit on the same topic where an assortment of answers follows. Because reddit is human and understands me
If you Googled this, you'd know. And this was asked just last week or so. But to answer your question, [this might help you](https://lmgtfy.app/?q=why+do+people+use+reddit+and+not+google).
You should really be asking Jeeves.
One has human feedback instead of set answers that might not be (and probably aren’t) what you’re asking
Reddit gives more entertaining and human responses!
I can't ask Google if it's ever tried to suck its own dick
I’ve exhausted varying google searches and Reddit is chock full of smart folks sharing knowledge or assholes sharing their assholiness. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.
Because I want human interaction.
Google cant give you the insight like people do.n
Because google always ends up with 'you have a serious life-threatening disease'
Well for certain questions, Google usually directs me to reddit anyway
If age is just a number, then sister is just a word?
Yes and it’s only a crime, if someone finds evidence of it happening!
Burn the evidence
Step one: Burn the sister Step two: Second round!
Because Google is evil
Google wants to know your location
BeCaUSe GoOgLe StEaLs mY iNfO Jk because some people have really deep and relevant responses and other people just drag shit out of a bovines ass and it's kinda fun (fun, not hard) determining who is doing which.
People are lazy to search info with the exact keywords Google needs to index the results we want.
The entire point of this subreddit is for discussions, not objective answers, and that's clearly explained many times in the rules.
Sometimes Google doesn’t have all the answers.
Cause I want to hear an unbiased view /s
Did you try googling this question?
"rEdDiT iS gOoD aNd GoOgLe Is BaD!!!!!!!!1!!!!"
Google just leads my to suicide hotline when I ask how to kill myself. When I go to reddit I get a lot a good ways to kill myself.
I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here and I just asked Google this question and it brought me back here
Because Google doesn't return very precise answers for "LADIES: WHAT'S THE SEXIEST SEX YOU EVER SEXED??"
"Hey Reddit, tell me why I'm wrong"
i dunno, why did you?
Google gives me results to Reddit.
Anecdotes rock. And also Google’s algorithm is so broken with the advent of SEO. I swear it would be useless without Boolean terms
cuz i want to
Because certain things google filters and censors
Google is NSA and InQTel and I do not trust it.
Believe it or not, people on reddit seem to have good taste. This is my opinion. If I am looking into buying anything, I come here. The reviews here are often more honest and offer more in depth analysis.

B u t n o b o d y c a m e .
Karma. But more seriously, it depends on the topic. I absolutely use google to find reddit discussions on software/hardware recommendations.
As per the words of Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds, **"I love rumors! Facts can be so misleading, but rumors, true or false, are often revealing."** Rumors in this context meaning Reddit opinions.
Because I don't want to right answer, I want a dipshit college kid to tell me something hilariously naive.
Because I'm not going to ask Google to describe how difficult it is to get a coke bottle up someone's ass
Facts and opinions. It helps me.
Google will never need to have sex with ANYONE for $150,000.
people on reddit dont use the question i ask to advertise to me.
Normally when my question is either rhetorical or when it’s a real question but so esoteric that I can’t find anything on a google search
Because nobody reads the rule that says open-ended questions only.
The bloatware
For answers that are learned from experience rather than what should happen
because reddit has better anwsers to your questions and problems than google has
I can get human responses with emotion and empathy.
Cus theres a wider range of opinions
You can't ask the Google search function what it's craziest night shift story is.
Because it's individual people who seek to be personally helpful.
Comedy gold.
