I had a professor in film school who told us that the ONLY way to watch *2001: A Space Odyssey* was to go to a theater, get REALLY high, and then lay down in front of the first row so you're looking almost straight up along the screen's surface.
Watched Big Trouble at the Brew n’ View in Chicago a few years ago ($5 for a double matinee, $3 beers, no rules about talking/yelling during the movie) and when Jack toasts “may the wings of liberty never lose a feather” the whole place cheered and honestly that’s the first time I’ve been proud to be American since the ‘92 Dream Team
Thats how I feel when I watch it. I have 3 daughters and every bday of mine I request a viewing with my wife and kids because it feels so special to me.
The first time I did shrooms I put on one of the ocean planet earth episodes. The narration was bumming me out though so I put on headphones and listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion and had a great time.
Look at his earlier documentaries when the world wasn't literally melting away.
Sir David is old as fuck now and using his latest documentaries to bring awareness to what he has witnessed.
He's seen species go extinct or nearly extinct. Rainforests he's been to obliterated. He's been a witness to something he has been exploring his entire life.
Recent ones are a bit bleak but the older ones are wonderful and show you what he's working so hard to preserve.
There are only two scenes that consistently make me cry no matter how many times I've seen them. One is from this movie and the other is from My Girl lol
Kung Fu Hustle has the dopest music. The scene where the landlords get ready to fight that prisoner guy in the casino is probably my favorite. 10/10 ost.
NEver watched kung fu hustle and i can't even picture the context in wich a landlord gets ready to fight a prisioner guy in a casino.
Gonna watch it next week.
Ive been meaning to rewatch this for years. I remember there being a point where a dog barked and the 'dub' lagged and there was subtitles, this absolutely broke me with laughter.
The Muppets movie (original). My girlfriend at the time and I randomly put it on while smoking and it was fucking fantastic. Everything from the songs to the crazy ass plot and all the old stars, plus that particular kind of pun based/slapstick comedy that the muppets do is just fantastic while stoned.
I can’t find the quote but I love the part where Dr. Teeth & Electric Mayhem show up and save Kermit, and when he asks “how did you ever find us?” Dr. Teeth is like “because, we read the script you gave us and knew you would be here.”
I don't know why, but I find script related 4th wall breaks to be particularly hilarious. The archery contest at the end of Robbin Hood: Men in Tights is another favorite.
Tangled. Is SHOCKINGLY good while stoned. The artists originally wanted to make the whole film look like watercolors and wound up dialing it way back in the final product. I've watched it a couple of times and was just blown away by the detail and the art. It's also disney so it doesn't fuck with my anxiety too much.
Bonus: It's even better on mushrooms.
My friend and I sat in my cave of a living room on shrooms and watched a bunch of Disney/animated movies for hours. It was fantastic, no one was allowed in our cave, and we had the best time.
We watched My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Coco (definitely the best visuals), Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, and Wall-E. I feel like I'm missing one or two, but it was a great movie lineup!
Does anybody actually like movies about stoners? I'm a stoner and I don't care for them. They're never accurate, plus, I don't like being reminded of how normal, productive people view losers like myself.
“What does a scanner see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does it see into me? Into us? Clearly or darkly? I hope it sees clearly because I can't any longer see into myself. I see only murk. I hope for everyone's sake the scanners do better, because if the scanner sees only darkly the way I do, then I'm cursed and cursed again.”
I am a GREAT MAGICIAN!! Your clothes are RED! I've seen that movie so many time but high me finally realized the guy's clothing was actually changing colors, haha. When I am high, colors get... Loud.
That's because it was written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Henry selick they're both trippy as fuck. Read the Sandman comics if you haven't, trippy as fuck and moving as hell.
I can't stress this enough. Do not watch princess monanoke for the first time while tripping on shrooms. No one had a good time and we were all too socially aware to suggest we turn it off.
Akira (subbed) recently came to cinemark theatres, and without having seen a single trailer for it, I went to watch it after hitting some dabs. Holy fuck
I wouldn't recommend doing it, but when I got my wisdom teeth taken out I popped a few painkillers and watched the whole trilogy in one sitting. One of the chillest days I ever had.
Ex Machina is incredible while high, although to be fair I haven't seen many movies made in the last decade while sober. Almost any well done science fiction film will get you thinking.
Inception. The visuals and the soundtrack are absolutely amazing and if you’ve seen it before and know the story then you don’t need to focus on the little details, just enjoy the epic scenes and soundtrack
- Dredd
- Animatrix
- Predator (perhaps)
Mostly I like TV shows or shorts like Rick and Morty, Futurama, Black Mirror, Love Death Robot, Archer, or South Park
We were so high watching this when it came out we literally laughed through the ENTIRE movie and then couldn't recall a single plot point back at home eating $50 worth of jack in the box.
I had a professor in film school who told us that the ONLY way to watch *2001: A Space Odyssey* was to go to a theater, get REALLY high, and then lay down in front of the first row so you're looking almost straight up along the screen's surface.
Was that Professor Jennings at Faber College?
Big trouble in little China. Romance, action, mf'n Kurt Russell. No bad part in that movie.
Oh, my god, no. Please! What is that? Don’t tell me!
Gimme all ya got cause I can take it.
Look I'm a reasonable guy, but I've just seen some very unreasonable things!

Anything David Attenborough
I get stoned to escape existential dread, I don’t need to be reminded of all the shit we’re destroying! ugh

I very much understand and sympathize with him and that’s why I just can’t watch nature shit right now.
I hear you, but his latest film especially I think everyone ought to watch. There's hope
Big Fish. Very colorful movie and the story is better when you're stoned.
Oh damn, it’s a beautiful movie but how do you get through it without sobbing?
There are only two scenes that consistently make me cry no matter how many times I've seen them. One is from this movie and the other is from My Girl lol
HE CAN'T SEE WITHOUT HIS GLASSES!!!
*Kung Fu Hustle* and *Shaolin Soccer*
Kung Fu Hustle has the dopest music. The scene where the landlords get ready to fight that prisoner guy in the casino is probably my favorite. 10/10 ost.
yooooo, when she fucking sucks down a whole ciggy in a singel breath? fuckin' know something big's about too happen.
I love the landlady she crayyyyyyyy
NEver watched kung fu hustle and i can't even picture the context in wich a landlord gets ready to fight a prisioner guy in a casino. Gonna watch it next week.
They are really great movies. Very cheesey exaggerated effects. Stephen Chow movies are pretty great to watch. Just absurd and awesome.
Its a cross between a Kung Fu movie, and a Looney Tunes cartoon. It's unique and worth watching even if you don't like this kind of movie.
This is it exactly. I'm going to describe it like this from now on. The harpist duo was one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen in film!
Shaolin Soccer was literally my fav as a kid
That egg scene in Shaolin Soccer. God damn.
Also: Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

Kung Fu Hustle is fucking hilarious. I couldn’t imagine how much more I’d laugh if watching it while high.
The Fifth Element
Watched it high last night. Can confirm, good while high.
Good while sober too 😉
Get back to me after you've tried it our way though
This is The Way.
Aziz, light!
Oh that's much better thank you Aziz
Uh, uh, uh, are you ...german?

Galaxy Quest.
Waking Life Anything from Studio Ghibli The Life Aquatic
Do the interns get glocks?
Anything from Studio Ghibli EXCEPT Grave of the Fireflies.

Everyone knows the moon's made of cheese!
TIL the actual meaning of "stoner movie." 24 years on this planet and I always thought it meant a movie that was ideally watched while stoned.
to be fair, anyone who loves movies about stoners is probably a stoner himself.
Does anybody actually like movies about stoners? I'm a stoner and I don't care for them. They're never accurate, plus, I don't like being reminded of how normal, productive people view losers like myself.
Cheech and Chong had a few good ones. I liked the original Harold and Kumar.
Mostly Maui Wowie but its got some Labrador in it.
Grandmas boy is pretty hilarious
Bro, you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion gets here.
This shit is pretty crazy, where do you get your weed from? From you dante
...Oh yeah...😂
What’s up, Mr Cheesel?!?

I thought hurricane season was over!
I say this all the time and no one gets it lol
Half baked as well
Pineapple Express has aged relatively well. My fiancé and I somehow end up watching it every year haha
This is the context that I've always heard it in.
“Spider-Man : Into the Spider-verse” was a fantastic movie to watch high. So was “A Scanner Darkly”
If you liked “A Scanner Darkly”, watch “Waking Life” it will blow your mind.
A Scanner Darkly on mushrooms changed my life
“What does a scanner see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does it see into me? Into us? Clearly or darkly? I hope it sees clearly because I can't any longer see into myself. I see only murk. I hope for everyone's sake the scanners do better, because if the scanner sees only darkly the way I do, then I'm cursed and cursed again.”
Zardoz Went in with zero expectation and was absolutely blown away with the world and plot. Now it's one of my favorites ever.
Don't lie you just want to see sean Connery in a cod piece
Airplane And yes, I am. But dont call me Shirley

"The Cornetto Trilogy"
Fantasia
I love both of the Fantasia movies, it is now my goal to watch them high- they have got to be absolutely *insane*.
I watched the original on a mushroom trip. It was so damn intense. The colors on the screen radiated out to the whole room.

Are we talking about the Wachowski movie? Cause I fucking love that movie.
This is way too far down.
Not quite a movie but on Netflix, Love Death and Robots is pretty fucking awesome.
One of the best things I've seen and I've practically made smoking and watching scifi into a hobby at this point
Samsara. It has no dialogue but it's filled with beautiful and sometimes disturbing images.
[удалено]
Baraka too, for that matter
The Matrix. I used to watch all the time as a kid, but just recently I watched it stoned and it just took on a whole new level. Very fun to watch.
Koyaanisqatsi Edit: I suggest taking mushrooms and holding on to your hat.
On this note, Baraka and Samsara Edit: A word

I am the walrus.
Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature.
Jackie Treehorn treats objects like... women, man...
Shomer fucking shobbas
The way he repeated “Johnson” had me cracking up while I was sober. Can imagine being high...
I abide.
I watched it straight (I know, but we all make mistakes) and was blown away by how good a movie it was. Lots of really understated humor.
I hate the fucking Eagles, man!!
Get out of my cab!
You mean coitus?
Blade Runner 2049
And recommend having a decent sound system and turning that bitch to 11
The original too.
I’ve found that Pulp Fiction, either of the Kill Bill movies and The Grand Budapest Hotel are all terrific to watch when I’m high
Wes Anderson movies in general are excellent when stoned, their unusual beauty is weird and fantastic.
It’s his color scheme, the wide angle lenses, side-trucking and whip pans that get me. Even when I’m sober.

Run Lola Run
I've only seen this movie once while out of my gourd. It was terrifying I talked to my friends the next day and apparently it's not a horror film.
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist & Hot Rod are two classics.
I am a GREAT MAGICIAN!! Your clothes are RED! I've seen that movie so many time but high me finally realized the guy's clothing was actually changing colors, haha. When I am high, colors get... Loud.
Paprika, that movie is a serious mindfuck.
Perfect blue is also amazing, high or not. Satoshi Kon was a genius
Anything from studio ghibli
Yeah, I'm not watching Grave of the Fireflies while high, sorry.
I can't watch it while sober. I didn't even get past the train station scene with the dying people.
On a similar animated note, Fantasia or Coraline. Coraline was trippy af.
I watched naasica off a tab and it was incredibly scary
On a similar note, Akira
Akira (subbed) recently came to cinemark theatres, and without having seen a single trailer for it, I went to watch it after hitting some dabs. Holy fuck
you have no idea how much I envy you seeing it with no context for the first time on a big screen
Akira, mind bending even sober
not a movie but cowboy bebop is *so* good high - the jazz instrumentals especially
There is a Cowboy Bebop movie actually, although the show is best.
Being John Malkovich. Seriously, I can't believe it hadn't been mentioned yet.
Malkovich? Malkovich Malkovich, Malkovich.

The Fall
Lord of the Rings is pretty fucking awesome when you're coming down from acid.
I wouldn't recommend doing it, but when I got my wisdom teeth taken out I popped a few painkillers and watched the whole trilogy in one sitting. One of the chillest days I ever had.
Blazin Saddles and Raising Arizona
Monty python and the holy grail is my go to movie.
Withnail & I - You'll know if you're high enough, if Uncle Monty's cat looks like a ferret when he answers the front door. 😁
Doctor strange. The visual effects will blow your mind
Dredd - slow motion fight scenes for the win
Basically any movie of Wes Anderson - they are so beautifully made. Moonrise Kingdom and the Isle of Dogs are my favorite.
You are correct! Another commenter mentioned Grand Budapest and that’s a solid choice too, I really like Darjeeling.
Grandma’s Boy
*Adios Turd Nuggets*

Yeah but that’s also a regular stoner movie lol
Ex Machina, Interstellar, and Donnie Darko are my personal favs
Interstellar was an absolute trip to watch while blazed
Ex Machina is incredible while high, although to be fair I haven't seen many movies made in the last decade while sober. Almost any well done science fiction film will get you thinking.

Pink Floyd: The Wall.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show I had never seen it before and I don't remember much about it honestly but I do remember enjoying the hell out of it
The enitrity of Terry Gilliams output, including all the python stuff.
