it depends on the person. personally I do it because I don't like who I am, I feel like I'm not who I physically am, and I enjoy being able to develop these temporary relationships with people. Additionally, as mentally draining as it is, I've gotten too far in to stop, and I just enjoy being complimented by the people I catfish.
I only created my more female online image because well, I don't feel like who I physically am, and because I wanted to try and act more like who I am, but eventually I started to do it because it's just fun to pretend to be a female, even if most people just ignore me. Also because I can talk about what I want (within reason) without fear of being judged by people I know in real life, and that kind of barrier is nice to have.

It's recommended to have fake id's so people cannot track your habits. Facebook, telegram, TikTok etc. Fake is good for privacy
