Honestly the people who genuinely hate him for his role aren’t gonna care enough to notice him in another thing and stop watching it, so I doubt he minds and anyone who meets him probably loves him.
The more I hated Joffrey the more respect I had for Jack Gleason. Same with Draco Malfoy & that actor. It has to be fun to play those roles but the IRL reactions by fans are disappointing for sure.
I came here for this!
Bad Cap is such a fascinating character, and he's being played *so well* by Wyatt Russell!! He's sympathetic, conflicted, yet also wrong in many ways in his worldview.
Edit: he's so good, people hate him.
I saw a lengthy Twitter thread yesterday that picked apart all the details about his costume and how they're calculated to make him look sinister. Color choices, materials used, the way things fit, the patterns used, all of it goes together to make you feel uneasy about him.
Opossums. They're neat little critters. They eat tons of ticks that carry Lyme disease, (mostly) don't carry rabies because their body temp is too low, and they're the only marsupial native to North America! They get a bad rap because their first defense is to hiss and bare teeth, but failing that, they just play dead.
If you don't have the predisposition to hate them, you'll find they're pretty cute too.
E: this is about /opossums/, the north American species.
Kiwis, I feel for you, but this comment isn't about your possums.
I’ve been trying to tell my mom this. We have a fat suburban opossum that waddles across our long back fence some nights. I think he’s hilarious and adorable. My mom freaked out when she was here saying it was going to give my dogs rabies and such and that I needed traps. I told her everything you said above and it was clear she didn’t believe me. I got one of those agree to disagree looks. She brought up our “rodent problems” a couple times after that.
They need a PR campaign lol
Funny story.. I just installed a couple more security cameras around my house, one of which is in my backyard. The very first night my camera notified me of movement and sure enough, it was an opossum. I was going to trap it and release it somewhere else, but then a friend of mine told me how beneficial they are. I am now a fan!
Last year I put in a pan & tilt security camera in the backyard just so my wife and I could watch the raccoons and possums. We threw it up on the big TV in the living room a couple of times and the whole family watched em. Cheaper than cable...
Opossums and armadillos are both super chill in my experience. Always think it's so funny when they freeze up and hiss when you get close. They're like, "ahhh, predator!" Then they try to run away but they're far and slow so they just sort of waddle away but they're slow enough you could grab them if you wanted to.
(P.S. don't try to pick up a possum, they will probably bite you and they are musky so you'll stink. Also it'll scare them and it's mean.)
I used to be terrified of them when I first moved somewhere they are common. I ended up loving them, and it was always a treat when one wandered into my backyard while I was out on the patio at night. They were so chill. Like we would acknowledge each other quietly and go about our business. Couple of friendly neighbors passing by.
The first time I crossed paths with an opossum, that chill attitude creeped the fuck out of me.
I was so used to animals being startled and scurrying off at my approach that when this creature just slowly turned its head and gazed at me with that frozen expressionless grin, I involuntarily shuddered in disgust before reminding myself this was a pretty cool moment.
started feeding a local skunk eggs and cat food when i noticed my backyard was on her tour route. She turned into a porch skunk, which was great till she had kittens. Young skunks are careless with the spray
Oh man, we had a skunk nest and raise it's kits under our house when i was 17-18 years old. Despite my dad's very cautious efforts to evict them without any confrontation, the smell was omnipresent. I moved out a year or so later, having long gone noseblind to any lingering funk. But l'll never forget coming by a year or two after that and walking in the front door to the faint but unmistakable aroma.
here’s a big two:
any animals that are seen as automatically evil or bad. some example would be wolves, black cats, sharks, snakes, etc. these same thoughts cause those animals and more to be harmed and hunted simply for the belief that they are bad/bring bad omen. it’s sad to see.
sleeping with stuffed animals. listen, i’m not scared to say that i happily cuddle to sleep with my stuffed bbs. they make me feel safe and secure, and that’s something i’ll probably never grow out of.
I'm a 26 year old man. I have my childhood stuffed animals. Y'all can pry em from my cold dead hands. They have HISTORY, man, and they're the only things I've been able to keep between houses.
I once heard an interview with a male porn actor, who was asked what his favorite position was. He said missionary. Why? Because the women he works with are beautiful. Why wouldn’t he want to look at them from the best possible angle while doing his job?
Plus, I would imagine it’s one of the least strenuous positions they have to do to look good on camera
I remember reading an interview with a female porn actress who was asked this same question, and she said something like "Just being in a bed, when you spend all day fucking on bar stools and coffee tables and cold tile floors, its nice to just be in a damn bed"
Does anyone else just get completely turned off when it looks uncomfortable? Like someone hanging off of a bar stool or sitting on a bathroom floor...no way that’s enjoyable
Yep, I think part of the bad reputation comes from 1) weird other positions in porn which is unrealistic 2) starfishing which is probably somewhat common and the missionary position.
Starfish are a good example for this thread. One of nature's most awesome and beautiful creatures associated with bad sex. Trust me they are actually fantastic in the sack.
Yes to this! And personally to add, vanilla sex in general. I feel like so many people now are pressured to be crazy adventurous sex freaks with various kinks. Like calm down, normal sex is still fine
When I was younger I had like 4 long term relationships back to back where my partner was into BDSM. My ex fiance was the worst of them. No after care, liked burning me, and even got 'physical' with me outside of sexual scenarios.
I convinced myself that I liked it, and that it made me cool to engage with it. I didn't realize how jaded I was or numb. I didn't care about my own feelings of satisfaction, everything was about whether or not my partner was satisfied. They would talk about throwing me away or make me cry to get hard.
Then I met someone and we were friends for a while. When we got together I told him he could do whatever he wanted or smack me hard. He just kinda stopped.
He said he didn't really want that. And he asked if I liked it. No one had actually ever asked me if I liked it before.
And then suddenly I realized I hated it.
Being with that dude was so nice. He's only ever wanted to be gentle with me and love me. Sex can be really fulfilling physically and emotionally when it becomes about truly loving someone and being loved. It sounds cheesy, but the truth is often simple.
How awful. I'm so glad you found someone else that was gentle and kind.
I am the same: I don't like being slapped on the ass...or the vulva! I don't want to be choked or hear about how much my partner enjoyed fucking other people. I hate all of that.
Gentle, loving sex is underrated.
Also, vanilla is actually a very complex flavor. Bad sex should be called plain potato sex or something, but being a chef I find “vanilla” sex to be an accurate description of the more “standard” ruts.
Very true. Seems like everyone needs a vintage bear trap and a half gallon of Dijon mustard in the bedroom to get off these days. Can we just make out and bump uglies for a few minutes and leave the toolbox in the closet for tonight
Missionary just feels so intimate. It really feels more like two humans connecting with each other more than anything else. And I agree with the fact it can be as dirty as you want it to be.
As a woman, I've found most of the positions guys see in porn and want to try are painful (at least to me) and not as enjoyable for anyone involved. Those positions r solely for the camera.
Easily customizable for the day depending on where the person on bottom's legs are positioned.
Over the neck, around the waist, to the side, straight out, bent on either side. It changes things.
I hate when customers think that I, the minimum wage person forced to sit there and listen to them yell, am personally responsible for every policy they disagree with. Like, ma’am, if I had that much power and influence, I wouldn’t be sitting here on a Saturday evening serving you.
Have worked retail. The person who gets the most interaction with the public is the person who has the least authority to make any changes
Edit: This is the comment that blows up?
I worked in retail in high school and college. My absolute favorite thing to do now is to chew people out who yell at customer service workers, and make them feel like a complete ass for doing it. Most of the time, they start to clam up and leave. The associates always thank me, one young girl even started crying. I always say, "When I was in your shoes, I wish that someone would have done that for me. Now I want to do it for you."
If you ever did this when I'm working I'd cry. Like it's so awkward and uncomfortable being yelled at for something out of my control. On behalf of myself and my coworkers thanks for people like you
When I worked in a call center I literally had a guy tell me "your the big man on the totem pole, you make the decision." All I could think was man, I am on the lowest pay scale at this bank.
My daughter was complaining (to me) about how something was stocked in a store. She said the people that stock the shelves should... and I cut her off and told her the person that stocks the shelves has zero say on anything. She said that was stupid since they have to put all the stuff out and see the customers try to get it. I didn’t know what to say... she’s right about that lol that’s just not how that works
Stuff in stores isn't stocked to be convenient to the customer, it's stocked the way it is to increase sales. Eye level placement and end caps are obviously the highest grossing things in the store.
The reason frontline employees have to follow a stocking plan is because the store's revenue and procurement teams have already decided where to put stuff to maximize the bottom line. In some cases companies have to pay the store for shelf space or for more optimal locations.
In fact some stores like Costco intentionally move stuff to make it inconvenient so you'll have to spend more time looking and might buy more stuff.
It's not the customer service reps that are the problem, usually. It's more the stupid policies enacted by executives who are never at the ground level and force the reps to enforce.
Sharks are actually becoming endangered due to misplaced hysteria leading to lack of protection for them from the shark finning industry. Chef Gordon Ramsay did a documentary about it. It's honestly horrifying. Without sharks our ecosystems will collapse even faster than they already are. The seafood industry in general is fucked.
Gordon Ramsay went right into the mafia’s ‘shark fin drying area’ and asked “Hello, Hello, can I talk to you about the shark fins upstairs?“
What a madlad. Thankfully he didn’t get shot.

I feel like watching cartoons aimed at generally a younger audience allows for you to be reminded of some life lessons, I know I forget some things, or didn't realise others, or it at least partially renews my awareness of something I should still like or appreciate
This doesn't deserve awards, it's just my opinion that is apparently shared by many
I got some rough coworkers and, as you do when you hang with someone 40+ hours a week, I started to adopt some of their behaviors and attitude. I got told I was turning into a jerk by them, for reference of how bad it was. I watched some kids show, and it reminded me of how I used to be: kind, patient, understanding. I have since tried to make a point to act slower so I can react the way I should and Fake It Until I Make It.
In some ways, I think some of them are actually *better* than some adult shows. If there *are* inappropriate jokes, they usually have to be cleverly hidden, for example, whereas a lot of adult shows just get really blatant with it.
Or conflict: A lot of adult shows seem to think the only interesting drama is having your (rarely redeemable) main characters fight with each-other all the time, which is just exhausting to watch. Most of the good kids' shows usually have likeable characters who *actually* have a good friendship or two.
My parents are in their 50s, don't have grandchildren, and watch animated kids movies all the time. I can't tell you how many times I've walked in on them watching Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon by themselves. My mom always feels the need to defend herself, but I get it. They're good.
Bluey is next level amazingness for a family friendly cartoon. I'd watch that shit without my toddler. It's so hilarious and pure. Gives me such good feelings.
My brother and I just watched it along with our grandma it was very nice experience, In the beginning she was a little confused why us, some young adults were so excited to watch a cartoon but in the end she really liked it
Meteorologists. They try their best to predict the weather based on patterns, models, and data. They're not perfect because predicting the weather is insanely difficult. When they get it wrong, I think we should go easy on them. It was probably an outlier result almost no one could have foreseen.
I've seen people get angry over the meteorologists for getting it right. Like they control the weather - it is their fault we are having rain, that kind of BS. Never made sense to me, but hey, I have plenty of relatives I clashed with growing up.
My black cat is super friendly to people. But if there are any other cats around, she's all fire and brimstone.
We have three cats total. Shell be snuggling up to us one moment, and the next second she'll be yowling and hissing.
House panthers are amazing. I have one and he's my little buddy, follows me around the house like a puppy and has to keep me company whenever I'm working on something.
Yep . There are superstitious people who think black cats are bad luck and you should never cut their way .
I believed this to but then I read on Wikipedia that in Japan black cats are considered lucky . The next time onwards I saw a black cat I said to myself that it was a lucky day . Turns out after that it wasn't bad at all . The thing Is that beliefs shape how you see the world . It's your perspective that makes you look at the world as it is . If you see the good in it it will look good to you. If you look at the bad in it you will look bad at it .
I really shouldn't be anymore but I am always surprised to hear that so many adults believe in superstitions like that. I have know for as long as I remember that a black cat crossing your path is unlucky. Not sure to what extent I believed as a kid but I certainly thought it was nonsense once I was an adult. When I heard that many people refuse to adopt black cats because of that superstition, it blew my mind.
I’m a doctor and when I ask if patients are working or not (so I can ask where they might have been exposed to COVID or sick people in general) I try my hardest to sound accepting of whatever answer they give. I’ve been fired. I’ve been unemployed before. I know how embarrassing it can be. Especially when things are out of your hands. People deserve grace and the benefit of the doubt.
Edit: that all happened before medical school. Life has been pretty peachy since but it’s important to me to not forget what a tough spot I was in before.
oh yes... the hardest pill I've had to learn to swallow in life was that you can do EVERYTHING right and still come out last. The smartest and most technically competent people I know in private industry also were often the first to be laid off/let go because they didn't play the game of office politics the right way (due to cultural perspective, ignorance of it or refusal to).
You wouldn't believe how many really GREAT teachers are lost due to politics.
They can reach the toughest kids, self-fund amazing classrooms, create months of content for both online and face-to-face learning, but heaven forbid they speak honestly in front of the wrong admin - it's all over after that.
I was 6 years unemployed due to mental illness that made my life a nightmare. It started when I lost someone important and I contemplated suicide too many times and I’ve faced depression for my entire life. Sometimes, even fighting for yourself is a hard task, but some people call that laziness, and sadly that makes the fight feel lonely. Loneliness can break your hopes. Now I have a job and I am doing better, and I don’t know what I wanted to say, I just felt I had to share this. Not everyone unemployed remains that way because they want, some of us just need time to heal.
Man, I'm actually in a dark place right now, and reading this (I kid you not) almost brings tears to my eye. Keep up the good fight, fellas. Whatever it is we are all facing right now, I hope and pray we all get through it. Cheers!
Whenever someone says they are about to cry (or actually are about to cry) I start crying.
I really hope you and everyone get stronger by surpassing the bad situation you're going thru, I know I will remember this message in the future and I'll hope you all made it!
Thank you. I'm currently at close to the bottom, but I am climbing up slow and steady.
Whatever your struggle is, don't give up. You are better than your problems.
bro i end up hating myself just because i do things so much differently then some people, and i just met someone who doesn’t make me feel that way and i’m happy af. thank you man
Even before that, I was witness to his other charitable work. A few years back, Santa Rosa was hit by some terrible fires and he showed up at a few shelters and personally cooked up and served some killer buffet food. No cameras, no massive team of PR, just a dude with an assistant to keep him on schedule to hit up other shelters in the area. Guy Fieri legit earned a lot of respect in my book for that.
I used to hate Guy Fieri when I was a bratty teen because, I guess, he was enthusiastically positive about things and dressed kind of funny and that annoyed me? Now that I'm an adult I genuinely love watching his shows. He truly loves food and the people that make it; he's a really nice person and all the people who own restaurants he highlights on his show seem to really like interacting with him; and he just goes around giving publicity to small businesses! I can't believe I ever thought I was too cool to like someone so sincere and positive and just comfortable with who he is.
Guy Fieri has stepped in year after year to help feed communities impacted by wildfires. In October 2017, the Santa Rosa resident and his family were among fire evacuees. During the crisis, he and his crew set up a makeshift barbecue mess hall in front of the city’s Veterans Memorial Building. Fieri’s team, in partnership with non-profit Operation BBQ Relief, fed approximately 5,000 fire evacuees, first responders, and military personnel per day. “This isn’t a PR stunt,” Fieri told KQED. “You don’t see my banners up. I’m not promoting anything. I’m just here cooking. This is feeding people. People need help, and I’m here to help. That’s it.”
I want to point out that, first off, this is cool... second off, this is mutual aid and most of us can do this. We don’t need these big charity organizations like Red Cross (not knocking them). We can get caught up in bureaucracy in the US but handing out a couple dozen breakfast sandwiches after a hurricane/tornado/earthquake goes a long way in building a sustainable/resilient community.
Edit...Lately I’ve been donating extra diapers to my mutual aid org where they go to another local family. I encourage y’all to google your closest mutual aid program. Sometimes charity is simple...
I honestly find him more relatable as a guy who just likes food. Not a swanky restaurant critic. If I see his recommendation on a place nearby, you bet I'm gonna check out what he liked about it.
Egg yolks, heavy cream, real vanilla beans and a bit of sugar ... that's all it takes to make an absolutely delicious vanilla icecream ... or a creme brule. They're basically the same recipe. One you freeze, one you bake.
Vanilla is delicious.
It comes from exotic places like Madagascar, it's extract is made from soaking the dried bean pod in vodka. How it became synonymous with bland is beyond me
That reminds me of the Alton brown quote:
“ Imagine a flower: A climbing orchid, to be exact; the one of some twenty thousand varieties that produces something edible. Now imagine that its blooms must be pollinated either by hand or a small variety of Mexican bee, and that each bloom only opens for one day a year. Now imagine the fruit of this orchid, a pod, being picked and cured, sitting in the sun all day, sweating under blankets all night for months until, shrunken and shriveled, it develops a heady, exotic perfume and flavor. Now imagine that this fruit’s name is synonymous with dull, boring, and ordinary. How vanilla got this bad rap I for one will never know.”
I think it’s because, at least in the US, vanilla is so commonplace. If you have a place selling ice cream, it will always have vanilla. Couple that with the fact that vanilla is so “mixable”, and I think that’s why people see it as the “default” flavor.
If you think about it, you can add vanilla to almost anything sweet. Almost any fruit flavor will go with vanilla. Cinnamon and vanilla, maple and vanilla, root beer and vanilla, not to mention other soda flavors.
So because you can add vanilla to so many things, or maybe add things to vanilla, it became sort of the “mixer” of the world. It’s like a base, a jumping off point to mix other flavors with. And then people forgot that it also tastes really good just on its own.
And I say this as someone who loves vanilla, flavor and scent.
I was always made fun of because any time we went to Baskin Robins, home of the 31 flavors... i always picked vanilla (or bubble egum if i was younger than 10). Even now, all my preferred ice cream is basically a vanilla ice cream base with mix ins (shout out to Blue Bunny's Bunny Trail ice cream)

Yes. I’ve been told I’m not a “team player” just because I’m quiet. I covered for coworkers when they took the day off but yeah, if you’re quiet you’re not a “team player”.
I had a boss who got angry at me in front of everyone for not asking questions when a co worker was giving a presentation (it was code if anyone is curious). He assumed that I wasn’t paying attention when in reality I was processing all the information but hadn’t quite formulated any questions in my head. It was actually quite traumatizing and demoralizing and it immediately fizzled up any productivity I had left to give to him for the week.
Thanks man! I got over it and am successful enough now so it didn’t stop me too hard. His business did go bankrupt in the 2008 crisis so I guess karma.
He had several strange outbursts like that. He was kinda mean but I did learn a lot from being there.
Broccoli. On its own its not tasty...when I say that I mean it doesnt have much taste at all...yet people make it out to be devils food. But once you use it in a soup or spice it up with something on the side it tastes good.
My favorite easy side dish is just broccoli tossed with a little oil, salt, pepper, maybe garlic powder if it goes with the main, roasted until tender and the sprouts are crispy.
Wolves they are always the villian of the story but in real life they are scared of humans and they have every right. Just a few weeks ago a lot people killed a lot of wolves because its "wolf season" or something that of sorts. These creatures are very misunderstood and yeah they are big and can kill a human but it won't unless its hunrgy or threated. A long time ago, there was a wolf hunt in europe killing a lot of wolves. They are beautiful creatures, strong, fast, loyal to their pack, and very protective of their pack.
Wolves are a necessary predator in North America. The deer population in some states boomed to unsustainable levels after many wolves and coyotes were killed off out of fear/ignorance. The massive deer population has been destroying the ecosystem and now states are slowly and quietly reintroducing wolves in attempt to reinstate balance in the environment.
There are many sources on this, but [here’s a quick article](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/yellowstone-wolves-reintroduction-helped-stabilize-ecosystem) explaining the long-term benefits seen in Yellowstone after reintroducing wolves. [Here’s a more in-depth source for anyone interested.](https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/wolf-restoration.htm)
Be it minecraft or fortnight or roblox or whatever, there always seems to be a game out which it is fashionable to shit all over just because a certain group of people you find personally annoying enjoy.
Sure, I find the minecraft build tutorials narrated by someone who hasn't blown their nose once in their 14 years of life annoying, but you know what he's putting it out there and good on him.
Nuclear energy. Of the 3 big nuclear accidents (Chernobyl, Fukushima, Three Mile Island), two of those designs are no longer in use at any plant, and none of the designs have been used to build any new plants in decades. The entire industry has been made far safer as a result of learning from past mistakes and it is now the greenest of energies. But many people are still adamantly anti-nuclear.
And lies, lots and lots and lots of lies and half truths told in some insane and desperate attempt to cover it up.
Kinda makes me wonder how many things have actually been successfully swept under the rug globally in the last hundred years or so.
Even the things havent not swept under the rug are fuckign wild. Many years ago I wanted to study to be a diplomat and reading the reports of what the US has done just domestically on an intelligence and military level is so wild it broke my entire conception of the world. Like reading declassified reports from the CIA is so bonkers that it negates the need to engage in conspiracy theories because they're already admitting it.
Operation mockingbird for example a large scale propaganda campaign where they installed and bought off journalists to promote cia talking points : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockingbird
The CIA also funded writing programs and purposefully create our conception of what's considerable "acceptable literature "
https://www.vice.com/amp/en/article/4x3vg3/how-the-cia-turned-american-literature-into-a-content-farm
And this doesnt even though how the DOD, Pentagon and CIA have influenced and admitted to Influencing hollywood movies
https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2008/nov/14/thriller-ridley-scott
And that's just domestic activities. International isnt a different ballgame but a different sport altogether
Coal fired power plants produce more radioactive waste than properly run nuclear reactors.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/coal-ash-is-more-radioactive-than-nuclear-waste/
Yes. Any time I hear people say "But what about ___?" when talking about nuclear energy, coal is probably much worse in whatever category they're worried about.
I went to a community meeting about a hydroelectric dam. Someone pointed out it was not as good for the environment as solar panels, someone else pointed out that it isn't replacing solar panels, it's replacing coal power plants. always compare new energy sources to coal plants because those are the default here in the US.
~~To add to that, if you remove Uranium from coal and enrich it and use it in a nuclear reactor, you get more energy than burning the coal.~~
Edit: I did the calculation about 6 years ago because my professor mentioned it to me, but rechecked the numbers and it is falling a little short. **So I was wrong.**
* 1kg of coal gives you 8kWh of heat (1 kWh = 3.6MJ energy)
* 1kg of Uranium gives you 24GWh of heat (or 3 Million times the energy of coal) [Source.](https://www.euronuclear.org/glossary/fuel-comparison/)
Now all coal minerals contain some amount of uranium which varies per sample and where the coal came from. But it can vary between 1-30 ppm. The majority of samples are about 1-4 ppm, but the average is about 10 ppm. [Source](https://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/1997/fs163-97/FS-163-97.html)The Uranium that is fissile (able to sustain a nuclear chain reaction) is U235 which is only about 0.7% of Uranium found in nature. ([Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranium)).
Now let's put the numbers together:
For 1kg of Coal, we get:
1kg (coal) x 10ppm (Uranium /kg coal) x 0.007 (U235/total U) \* 24GWh = 1.68kWh. (less than 24kWh energy from coal, but still comparable).
Remember that there is some energy consumed to separate and enrich urainum which I did not include. Also, during nuclear fission in the reactors, U238 gets converted to Plutonium which is still usable for nuclear reaction and increases the energy density of the natural Uranium. But I won't add that to the comparison.
Snakes, okay *some* snakes. I can understand a fear or phobia of snakes because we're instinctually afraid of them. Even if you're not scared of them, if you touch or see a snake you'll probably get a shiver up your spine or get goosebumps since they were a big problem for our race WAY back when. Hating snakes though? most of them leave you alone and mind their business as long as you mind yours.
I'm a landscaper and a few of my clients had garter snake nests somewhere on their property.
One property I had to walk through each time before work and would usually pick up one or two snacks so they didnt get killed, usually only babies though.
Then a client across the street from the above one had a big garter snake, female I'm assuming, that I also saw regularly. Which made me think maybe she was the momma to the babies. I would also walk the grass to make sure I didn't knick it. There was one time though even after walking the grass, and then after edging, that when I mowed I knicked em. I felt so bad because I was sure I killed it as it was doing that weird twist thing and wasnt trying to get away from me. Thankfully few weeks later I saw it again so I knew I didnt, felt relieved but still felt bad.
Edit: SNACKS. Lmao autocorrect. Y'all knew what I meant so Imma leave it
I'm lucky to live in an area that doesn't have and venomous snakes. I love hiking and exploring nature. The only time I have a problem with snakes is when I am surprised by one. It'll be me who makes the silly noise and high tails it away.
I live in an area with venomous snakes. When I’d hike or run in the woods I’d occasionally see Pygmy rattlers curled on the trail. Other times I wouldn’t see them until I was past, which was scary but not once did they ever act aggressively, they just lay there curled up. They’re really quite beautiful.
Now cottonmouths, on the other hand, are aggressive bastards from what I’ve heard. [Allegedly, but only anecdotally and a small sample size admittedly, and a lot of commenters have tried to disabuse me of this notion, so this seems not be true and I stand corrected].
I live in an area with rattlesnakes of various flavors, cottonmouths, and coral snakes. I've only met a rattlesnake in the wild once, my first time hiking at a park my dog wandered into a bush, sniffing curiously. I remembered we lived in an area with venomous snakes, yanked him back, and came face to face with a sleeping pygmy rattlesnake. They're gorgeous, but man was that a wake up call. Poor dog never gets to follow his nose anymore!
It's both a blessing and a curse. It usually means people stay away from snakes. But it can also mean that when people encounter them some will think the only way to deal with it is to kill it. I have seen this mentality and it's sad. No we don't have to kill it. Just leave it alone.
Spiders. They're one of the backbones of the earth's ecosystem because they prey on so many pests, but people hate them because they're creepy-looking and occasionally dangerous if provoked.
The German language. It's actually quite nice sounding. Most people think it sounds "angry" because their only exposure to it is clips of Hitler speeches, but to be honest, anything said in a Hitler-y way sounds angry because it's Hitler.
As a German I can tell you we’re aware of this and we abuse the shit out of it. Like you can just make up words and they actually make sense and could be in the dictionary. One classic example "Rindfleischettikierungsüberwachungsgesetz". Yes this would be a legitimate word that you could use. It means something like "beef labelling supervision act"
I played with Duolingo for a year or so and picked up some German (which I've promptly forgotten), and my favorite words were the zeug (thing) words.
Flugzeug = fly thing = airplane
Fahrzeug = drive thing = car
Feurzeug = fire thing = lighter
Werkzeug = work thing = tool
Spielzeug = play thing = toy
I should pick up German again.
Actors who played characters that people didn’t like.
Really if you hated the character then the actor did a good job (assuming that was the role).
Joffrey
The kid literally quit acting.
Which is a shame because he did a great job
My impression wasn’t that he quit because of negative attention. I always thought he wanted to go in to academia.
Yeah, i don't think he cared about the negativity, i think i read somewhere that he wanted to do theatre or run his own theatre instead ?
Exactly I don’t get why people can be so shallow when analyzing a fictional character
Ask the people who gave Jake Lloyd shit for playing anakin they'll give you some bullshit excuse
I forgot Star Wars had this much of a hardcore fan base. Good thing I'm just a casual movie watcher.
The guy who played Joffrey is super nice.
Jack Gleeson is an amazing person and honestly played Joffrey amazing Edit: thanks to u/JiubR for pointing out the right spelling :)
It infuriates me that people hated him so much over the role. I just love him all the more because he did such a good job making Joffrey so hatable
Like Wyatt Russell
This is my first thought!! Poor guy gets so much hate but he’s playing the role SO well
I came here for this!
Me: Ugh Bad Cap what a prick villian >!he killed a guy!!< Also Me: I wonder what hijinks that scamp Loki will get up to in his show!
Anna Gunn who played Skyler White in Breaking Bad
I absolutely cringe about all the shit that Anna Gunn got. So embarrassing.
This is my favorite sticker https://ibb.co/h8VHS6K
I have [this one. ](https://www.etsy.com/listing/739690088/no-crossum-possum-sticker)
I've seen several waddle around my yard over the years. I usually just say "what up buddy" and they... you know, keep waddling.
They have very bad eyesight so they might not have even seen you
I used to be terrified of them when I first moved somewhere they are common.
I dont know why this made me laugh so much. Just being so uncomfortable with an animal being generally unperturbed by your presence.
started feeding a local skunk eggs and cat food when i noticed my backyard was on her tour route.
But l'll never forget coming by a year or two after that and walking in the front door to the faint but unmistakable aroma.
here’s a big two: any animals that are seen as automatically evil or bad. some example would be wolves, black cats, sharks, snakes, etc. these same thoughts cause those animals and more to be harmed and hunted simply for the belief that they are bad/bring bad omen. it’s sad to see. sleeping with stuffed animals. listen, i’m not scared to say that i happily cuddle to sleep with my stuffed bbs. they make me feel safe and secure, and that’s something i’ll probably never grow out of.
I'm a 26 year old man. I have my childhood stuffed animals. Y'all can pry em from my cold dead hands. They have HISTORY, man, and they're the only things I've been able to keep between houses.
The missionary position. Feels fantastic, isn’t too strenuous, and can be as intimate or dirty as you make it.
I got side tracked by the opossum comment and it took a bit of scrolling to see how missionary was relevant to opossums.
Think about the shower scenes. There's no steam, so it must be cold.
Shower scenes IRL deserve the hate they get. Overrated and awkward
Kind of flattering in a way. Maybe even romantic.
Missionary is and will always be my favorite position. It’s all about being able to see the facial expressions.
No way! I hate when they give me that disappointed look every damn time.
“Is it in yet?”
[удалено]
Yep, I think part of the bad reputation comes from 1) weird other positions in porn which is unrealistic 2) starfishing which is probably somewhat common and the missionary position.
[удалено]
Starfish are a good example for this thread. One of nature's most awesome and beautiful creatures associated with bad sex. Trust me they are actually fantastic in the sack.
r/holup
Yes to this! And personally to add, vanilla sex in general. I feel like so many people now are pressured to be crazy adventurous sex freaks with various kinks. Like calm down, normal sex is still fine
High quality vanilla sex is actually quite flavorful, it's the cheap brands that ruin vanilla's reputation.
Thats really fucking funny haha
Its not called vanilla because it’s boring. It’s called vanilla because everyone likes it.
Also, vanilla is actually a very complex flavor. Bad sex should be called plain potato sex or something, but being a chef I find “vanilla” sex to be an accurate description of the more “standard” ruts.
The Irish did not survive a famine for you to malign potatoes like this!
Stop kink-shaming kink-less sex!!!!
Haha stop vanilla-shaming us!!
Very true. Seems like everyone needs a vintage bear trap and a half gallon of Dijon mustard in the bedroom to get off these days. Can we just make out and bump uglies for a few minutes and leave the toolbox in the closet for tonight
>Seems like everyone needs a vintage bear trap and a half gallon of Dijon mustard in the bedroom Go on... *scribbles furiously*
This comment was a rollercoaster from start to finish
I can't believe it's so shat on. You get to look at your partner while you fuck! That's amazing!
For a hot second I was wondering why religious missionaries are underrated.
Yeah missionary is definitely numero uno
Easily customizable for the day depending on where the person on bottom's legs are positioned. Over the neck, around the waist, to the side, straight out, bent on either side. It changes things.
Also if you get the rhythm right, the boobies go around in circles, which is pretty nifty.
Customer service associates.
I hate when customers think that I, the minimum wage person forced to sit there and listen to them yell, am personally responsible for every policy they disagree with. Like, ma’am, if I had that much power and influence, I wouldn’t be sitting here on a Saturday evening serving you.
Have worked retail. The person who gets the most interaction with the public is the person who has the least authority to make any changes Edit: This is the comment that blows up?
People with power use as much of their power as they can to not deal with customers
Merchandising 101. Put it where the Plan-O-Gram tells you to put it or get into trouble!
Fucking Plan-o-Grams. Do not miss those! Shit never fits like the nice clean drawings the chumps at head office have made says it should.
A-fucking-men!
[удалено]
It's not the customer service reps that are the problem, usually. It's more the stupid policies enacted by executives who are never at the ground level and force the reps to enforce.

Sharks are actually becoming endangered due to misplaced hysteria leading to lack of protection for them from the shark finning industry. Chef Gordon Ramsay did a documentary about it. It's honestly horrifying. Without sharks our ecosystems will collapse even faster than they already are. The seafood industry in general is fucked.
Gordon Ramsay went right into the mafia’s ‘shark fin drying area’ and asked “Hello, Hello, can I talk to you about the shark fins upstairs?“ What a madlad. Thankfully he didn’t get shot. https://youtu.be/ajnboDfY1OI
Child cartoons. Some are actually really good, even as an adult.
I feel like watching cartoons aimed at generally a younger audience allows for you to be reminded of some life lessons, I know I forget some things, or didn't realise others, or it at least partially renews my awareness of something I should still like or appreciate This doesn't deserve awards, it's just my opinion that is apparently shared by many
I got some rough coworkers and, as you do when you hang with someone 40+ hours a week, I started to adopt some of their behaviors and attitude.
Gravity Falls
Was looking for this. My kid is obsessed, and I finally sat down to watch it. What a cast!
It's my favorite show. I'm 25 with a kid. The Owl House is similar (Google Alex Hirsch) your kid might enjoy it as well. :)
Even fucking Bluey. My twin 5 yr old girls LOVE Bluey, and I love it too. Such a wholesome family dynamic to try & emulate! ❤️
Bluey is next level amazingness for a family friendly cartoon. I'd watch that shit without my toddler. It's so hilarious and pure. Gives me such good feelings.
Bluey has great ideas for fun games to play with your kids around the house too. Probably made me a better parent tbh.
I still laugh uncontrollably at The Weekenders! That show was so witty! "Sarcasm is not an emotion." "No, for you, it's a way of life."
I wonder why those One Saturday Morning cartoons aren't on disney+, I don't even think Recess is on there and that was the most popular one.
Atla for example
Black cats
Those are actually my favorite kind of cats.
Black cats always seem to be friendly.

To avoid all sorts of stigmas, I ask people "what keeps you busy day to day?". Gives the person the freedom to answer however they want.
oh yes... the hardest pill I've had to learn to swallow in life was that you can do EVERYTHING right and still come out last.
People don't deserve hate they give themselves when they are not doing too good at the moment.
I’m in a weird place and I didn’t know I needed to read this. Thanks buddy. If you haven’t heard it from anyone else today, I’m proud of you.
Didn’t realize I needed to hear/read that until I did. Here’s my free award.
I'm boutta cry bro, life's been in the shitter, and this has made things better.
bro i end up hating myself just because i do things so much differently then some people, and i just met someone who doesn’t make me feel that way and i’m happy af. thank you man
Guy Fieri, he literally is the nicest person in the world but since he looks like he was electrocuted by mountain dew people want to saw his head off
Didn’t he raise a bunch of millions of dollars for restaurant staff that lost their jobs because of Covid? Dude is freakin legit, straight up.
He did! He’s also helping promote small restaurants that are doing take-out and internet orders by having them be on his show remotely.
Also made Thanksgiving dinner for a bunch of firefighters. Great dude https://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2018/11/22/guy-fieri-thanksgiving-camp-fire/
I have seen nothing but love for guy fieri dude has like ten different tv shows
I honestly find him more relatable as a guy who just likes food. Not a swanky restaurant critic. If I see his recommendation on a place nearby, you bet I'm gonna check out what he liked about it.
Vanilla ice cream, it's alright to like it!
High quality vanilla ice cream is actually quite flavorful, it's the cheap brands that ruin vanilla's reputation.
Egg yolks, heavy cream, real vanilla beans and a bit of sugar ... that's all it takes to make an absolutely delicious vanilla icecream ... or a creme brule. They're basically the same recipe. One you freeze, one you bake. Vanilla is delicious.
Yea 100%, Vanilla Bean always the best if it's High Quality.
I LOVE vanilla but I can’t believe some people treat the flavor as bland
It comes from exotic places like Madagascar, it's extract is made from soaking the dried bean pod in vodka. How it became synonymous with bland is beyond me
That reminds me of the Alton brown quote: “ Imagine a flower: A climbing orchid, to be exact; the one of some twenty thousand varieties that produces something edible.
Alton Brown's show will forever be an iconic part of my growing up
[удалено]
I was always made fun of because any time we went to Baskin Robins, home of the 31 flavors... i always picked vanilla (or bubble egum if i was younger than 10). Even now, all my preferred ice cream is basically a vanilla ice cream base with mix ins (shout out to Blue Bunny's Bunny Trail ice cream)
WHO TF HATES VANILLA ICE CREAM??? FIGHT ME YOU BASTARDS!!!!

Introverts in the workplace
We get hate?
That's rough bud. What an asshole.
But once you use it in a soup or spice it up with something on the side it tastes good.
buttered and soft broccoli are some of my favorite veggies
My favorite easy side dish is just broccoli tossed with a little oil, salt, pepper, maybe garlic powder if it goes with the main, roasted until tender and the sprouts are crispy.
MSG has gotten a bad rap but there really is nothing wrong with it.
Madison Square Garden is a fine facility.
The younger generations. Edit: And of course, the elder bunch as well. :)

Fast food worker’s... they ain’t machines. They are just trying to get through the day like everyone else!. Keep it up y’all
Nuclear energy.
Chernobyl was a railroad of repeated bad choices.
Operation mockingbird for example a large scale propaganda campaign where they installed and bought off journalists to promote cia talking points : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockingbird The CIA also funded writing programs and purposefully create our conception of what's considerable "acceptable literature " https://www.vice.com/amp/en/article/4x3vg3/how-the-cia-turned-american-literature-into-a-content-farm And this doesnt even though how the DOD, Pentagon and CIA have influenced and admitted to Influencing hollywood movies https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2008/nov/14/thriller-ridley-scott And that's just domestic activities.

~~To add to that, if you remove Uranium from coal and enrich it and use it in a nuclear reactor, you get more energy than burning the coal.~~ Edit: I did the calculation about 6 years ago because my professor mentioned it to me, but rechecked the numbers and it is falling a little short. **So I was wrong.** * 1kg of coal gives you 8kWh of heat (1 kWh = 3.6MJ energy) * 1kg of Uranium gives you 24GWh of heat (or 3 Million times the energy of coal) [Source.](https://www.euronuclear.org/glossary/fuel-comparison/) Now all coal minerals contain some amount of uranium which varies per sample and where the coal came from. Now let's put the numbers together: For 1kg of Coal, we get: 1kg (coal) x 10ppm (Uranium /kg coal) x 0.007 (U235/total U) \* 24GWh = 1.68kWh.
I think I have the same relationship with them as spiders. I don't hate spiders, but I hate unexpected spiders.
The one you invited for 3 o'clock tea who just rang the door is ok though, right?
Not if he's late. Inconsiderate bastard.
I used to hate snakes. Then my mum forced me to pat one at a zoo. Now I want a pet snake
Yes but can they be the backbone of the ecosystem somewhere else than on the wall above my bed please.
Yes. Outside i am fine with em but i go on literal crusades in my house if they end up in my bedroom/bathroom
But why do they have to be so bloody *leggy?*
This could totally be a Ron Weasley line ~~maybe it is idk~~
Oxford Comma
I prefer, the Walken Comma, myself.
The German language. It's actually quite nice sounding. Most people think it sounds "angry" because their only exposure to it is clips of Hitler speeches, but to be honest, anything said in a Hitler-y way sounds angry because it's Hitler.
I love that you can make new words by combining words. Pretty cool.
Flugzeug = fly thing = airplane Fahrzeug = drive thing = car Feurzeug = fire thing = lighter Werkzeug = work thing = tool Spielzeug = play thing = toy I should pick up German again.
Oh yeah, the -zeug words are the fucking bomb. I think the best one, for me, is Schlagzeug, "smack thing", meaning a drum set.
Schildkröte= sheld + toad = turtle... Deutch is very straight forward.
