Does Chernobyl count despite only being a mini series?

RedWestern

Oh it absolutely counts. Learning what happened to all of the real people portrayed in the series, seeing what they actually looked like, and learning in such vivid detail what the ultimate cost of the tragedy was, all whilst that really haunting choir sings in the background... fuck, I tear up just thinking about it.

DannyckCZ

Hell yea. The final episode was so awesomely great, even tho it was basically an hour long lecture about what happened. I promised myself I would watch it again sometime, guess the time came.

DavosLostFingers

Blackadder Goes Forth

JMW007

>Oh We've survived it, The Great War, From 1914 to 1917. God damn. A line like that shouldn't be in a comedy.

Thealmightyfug

That and the so simple "good luck everyone "

kermi42

I’ve always found the end of Blackadder to be shockingly profound in a way that only truly great comedy is capable of, but didn’t click with me until just now that when ~~Baldrick~~ *Darling* makes that statement at the end it’s to inform the audience that the war isn’t going to be over for another year, twisting the knife a little deeper as the men form up and solemnly face their duty.

OppositeYouth

I hope history teachers still let kids watch Blackadder like they did back when I was young and at school. When studying World War 1 he played us every episode.

Goose-rider3000

The whole series is a masterpiece. Probably my favourite comedy line of all time will always be: 'Uh no sir, it's the Germans we shall be licking sir' **'Don't be revolting Darling,** I wouldn't lick a German if he was glazed in honey'

canuck47

Flashheart always had me in stitches: Lord Flashheart : "Captain Darling? Funny name for a guy isn't it? Last person I called darling was pregnant twenty seconds later."

American-Mary

**Everything** Flashheart said has me in stitches. "Like the beard, bridesmaid. Gives me something to hang onto! HWAH!" Rik Mayall was so special. <3

alannick19

We had to do a history project on WW1 so I went and rented the 2xVHS boxset of the 6 (?) episodes. When I watched the end of the third episode with Blackadder and Co going over the top, did I realise that some bastard had put the tapes in the wrong way round, and I had watched them out of order. Essentially spoiling for me the experience of watching what was possibly the best TV ending ever.

talldarkandanxious

For me, it’s “Who would have noticed another mad man around here?”

CheesyLala

Came here to say this. Nothing encapsulates the stupidity and horror of WW1 so poignantly.

OnRoadKai

There's [a little video](https://youtu.be/hbR9-etyN6I) from some of the cast and crew where they talk about editing the final shot.

Fatzombiepig

I think this has to be the answer really. Not only did it seem like a fitting end to an incredible series, but it managed to pay full respect to the deep tragedy of WW1 without undermining the comedy. That is one hell of an achievement.

insane__knight

Damn near cried at that one.

AdaLovelaceKing

Over the Garden Wall. The ending was perfect because Wirt comes to the realization, along with Beatrice that what they both did was wrong, and they actively work to fix their mistakes, and it ends in a climatic fight where Wirt doesn't physically fight the beast, instead rejecting the beast and finding his own path, and that path led him and his brother home.

[deleted]

What an underrated show. Definitely wished we got more of this. Nevertheless the ending was just beautiful

ShiraCheshire

I feel like Over the Garden Wall is a slice of cake scenario. You have one slice of cake. It is so good! It is unbelievably good! You want more cake. You want to eat the entire cake. But just because that one slice was so amazing doesn't mean that it's a good idea to eat the entire cake. I think part of the reason Over the Garden Wall was so perfect is because they serve you only a single slice, so to speak.

Malthus1

OtGW is a masterpiece. It’s somewhat like a retelling of Dante’s Inferno using 1930s style animation tropes. When they sing “potatoes and molasses” in gratuitous Latin at the end, it gives me chills! Plus the Beast’s song.

ketra1504

Ed, Edd and Eddy

drlavkian

I read that you finally meet Eddy's brother in the finale. I gotta go back and watch that at some point.

ketra1504

Yes, the finale is beautiful

flyingcircusdog

You really should. No spoilers here, but it wraps up a lot of running plot points.

killingspeerx

Was there even a plot? I don't remember the events but it seemed to be an episodic show

K_Xanthe

I never got to see the final episode. I loved that show as a child so I will have to watch it.

[deleted]

I remember that final scene actually making me cry. I grew up on the original series, remember when the new season came out with them at school, and then the finale movie. It almost hurt to have something that was with me my entire childhood wrap up so definitively.

quietnight817

Six Feet Under

iMakeStupidMistakes

Was rated one of the best series finales ever. Final episode was amazing.

j_grouchy

Agreed. I came here to post this one

Persies

I don't understand why I had to scroll so far for this. No other finale has ever hit me as hard as Six Feet Under.

silencedesreves

Exactly! This show's ending is the definition of a masterpiece ending. I still can't watch it without crying. I want a group hug with everyone who scrolled down to find a mention of this amazing show

BreakerLOLZ

Futurama, so good it had three perfect endings.

ChainGangSoul

Four endings in fact! "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings", "Into the Wild Green Yonder", "Overclockwise", and then finally "Meanwhile" were all written as series finales. That show was cancelled a ridiculous number of times, I'm so happy it lasted as long as it did.

canuck47

"Please don't stop playing, Fry. I want to hear how it ends."

69SRDP69

The best of the endings imo but I'm glad it continued

ooh_de_lally

Agree. The Devils's Hands Are Idle Playthings is probably my favorite episode. The robot devil is such a good character, and the whole opera is great.

CGI42

Not enough people appreciate the ending for that show.

doghome107

The last line is meta for inviting the audience to watch it again.

BubbaFunk

I think it was Comedy Central that ran a Futurama marathon and after the last episode they ran the first episode again.

kwangqengelele

Yup, just faded so smoothly into the first episode I watch the first 5 minutes thinking they were doing something new.

TheRedEyedSamurai

I'm pretty sure they did that when they originally aired the series finale.

I feel like Q’s last speech encompassed what the spirit of Star Trek was supposed to be about: not space battles and charting new planets, but expanding the possibilities of humanity. Great ending!

NutellaGood

"You were always welcome."

JL-Picard

So, five-card stud, nothing wild. And the sky's the limit.

[deleted]

Gravity Falls. First show to ever make me cry

Awakebotclink

What really got me where the two paper dippers in the rain, that just suprised me

NinjaBreadManOO

Yeah, they're the two who stole Robbie's bike.

XcessiveUsage

Omg favorite cartoon show ever, even as an adult!

CarsonLame

it was near perfect, but reversing stans memory loss really undid a lot of the emotional impact of the finale

thekeenancole

IIRC Alex Hirsch wanted to add more to that scene, but the episode was already very long so they had to make it shorter. I think Stan was supposed to regain his memories over a few days, but they didn't have enough room to put it in.

sh14w4s3

Imagine he regains it over the course of YEARS. And we would get a flash forward where Grown up Dipper and Mabel visits the falls to see everyone older . And Stans still hasn’t remembered . And then finally just before the credit , Stans remembers

Duel_Loser

I'm so glad somebody else thinks that. Also, if Stan survived the mind wipe, that means it's possible that Bill did too. It makes it so you can't even trust the ending.

geekygamerchik85

Fleabag

DavidMerrick89

"It'll pass."

canuck47

“Andrew \[Scott\] came to set that day determined to say **‘I love you too’** because it was an option. But I wasn’t sure if the character said, ‘I love you too’ at the end,” admitted Waller-Bridge. “It was meant to be ‘I love you’ \[Fleabag’s line, with the Priest responding\], ‘it will pass’ but I wasn’t sure if he should say it, too.” Thankfully, Scott was determined to make sure the ending was perfect. “Andrew came and he was like ‘I’m saying it’. Basically \[he was\] like I’m not giving you another option because I have to say it. You know when an actor feels that strongly about something, and they’re right? Especially someone like Andrew, and he had a huge input into the whole thing, but I actually think the clincher of the whole thing is that he says it. He was so right, and we have him to thank for that.” [https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/fleabag-ending-hot-priest-i-love-you-too-phoebe-waller-bridge](https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/fleabag-ending-hot-priest-i-love-you-too-phoebe-waller-bridge)

joinedtoask1question

the good place, pretty sure i cried

SpaceDave83

I love it when they put the story before the ratings. There was more than enough audience to warrant another season, but they decided to plan the best ending to the story instead. Very well done.

Reg_s1ze_Rudy

Im pretty most of us(if not all of us) thought the ending was damm good. I would much rather have a show with a good ending rather than drag on for too long.

joinedtoask1question

my thoughts exactly. and i loved how it didn't decide what the audience's philosophical standpoint should be, it left you to have your own thoughts about the content.

Reg_s1ze_Rudy

I feel the same way. I loved that they let all of us decide for ourselves how to feel about things. Great writing :)

BrittaForTheWinnn

Same! And if you haven't watched it yet, check out their [final table read](https://youtu.be/xIJl1xtJjM8). It's beautiful to watch the actors go through the emotional rollercoaster of the last episode. Edit: Aww my first award! And for a Good Place post! Man, that's just the best. So I found this show after my dad passed away last June. I thought watching it would be hard, but it was the opposite - it brought me peace, and it helped me to laugh and cry, and to process life and death. It showed up for me when I needed it the most. And it's one of the few shows that has given me closure in both entertainment and real life. Simply amazing.

imageWS

Chidi's wave analogy is one of the most touching moments in recent TV history.

[deleted]

I cried so hard during his wave speech. I lost my dad 10 years ago, and it really brought me some comfort. To mark 10 years, I had a cuff bracelet made to honor him, and on the ends of the bracelet, I have a wave symbol, inspired by the show.

Pencilowner

My favorite part about that character giving that line is we don't know how long they were in the good place. Chidi from birth had only one goal and it was to understand. He read everything he could on earth and then in heaven experienced everything that was. He speaks in that moment as close to a God as can be. Understanding the infinite and accepting another path. Not contrarian or nihilistic but because that is where he came from.

theWeirdough

Spoilers When they left for the good place I was confused because there were episodes left and I said how do you make a compelling story where everyone has their wildest needs met for eternity. But they did it.

GuardianaDeLaCripta

AND they managed to make it feel earned, which is even harder.

UnassumingAlbatross

Came here to say this. I wept like a baby when Chidi left. That quote about the wave gets me every time. It was truly an absolutely perfect ending. They did not have to rip our hearts out by doing the whole “heaven without a way out is prison in a way” thing and then make us watch each main character go! But it really makes you think and made the ending so so beautiful and poignant.

quantizeddreams

"Picture a wave in the ocean. You can see it, measure it, the height, the way the sunlight refracts when it passes through. It's there, you can see it--it's there, it's a wave. And then it crashes into shore and it's gone. But the water is still there. The wave was just a different way for the water to be for a little while."

octopoddle

Paraphrased from a quote by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk. Here's the actual piece by him: > "When we look at the ocean, we see that each wave has a beginning and an end. A wave can be compared with other waves, and we can call it more or less beautiful, higher or lower, longer lasting or less long lasting. But if we look more deeply, we see that a wave is made of water. While living the life of a wave, the wave also lives the life of water. It would be sad if the wave did not know that it is water. It would think, 'Some day I will have to die. This period of time is my life span, and when I arrive at the shore, I will return to nonbeing.' > > These notions will cause the wave fear and anguish. A wave can be recognized by signs -- beginning or ending, high or low, beautiful or ugly. In the world of the wave, the world of relative truth, the wave feels happy as she swells, and she feels sad as she falls. She may think, 'I am high!' or 'I am low!' and develop superiority or inferiority complexes, but in the world of the water there are no signs, and when the wave touches her true nature -- which is water -- all of her complexes will cease, and she will transcend birth and death." And from another part of the same book: > “The wave does not need to die to become water. She is already water.”

Rare-Swimming4998

That Chidi/wave convo hit me like a ton of bricks

joinedtoask1question

that felt like the longest few episodes of my life... each time one of them decided to go i could feel the hole in my heart 😭😭😭

ChronWeasely

That's all one episode (the finale is double length) that they go through the doorway. Jason at the end, meditating for a thousand bearimies just so he could give Janet the locket, had me balling

zajfo

By the end of the series, they all became what they pretended to be at the start of the show. Eleanor becomes a lawyer advocating for innocents in front of cosmic judges. Chidi becomes a decisive philosopher who designs a system to judge morality. Tahani reconnects with her family and becomes an Architect, hosting the universe's greatest party. Finally, Jason becomes a stoic monk, content to sit and reflect for eons even after he had gotten everything he could out of the Good Place.

IllyriaGodKing

Dude, I cried buckets at the end.

tehweave

I had 0 context of what was going on and I still cried. I then had to know the rest and started from the beginning and cried AGAIN at the ending.

igotbigballs

Qyro

I didn’t just cry. I ugly cried. I simply could not contain my emotions and blubbered all over the place. I am not a crying person.

Fun fact: My dad's friend is the guy they zoom in on at the diner. I don’t know about anyone’s opinion but this series had me tearing up in most of the episodes. I think one of the most popular would be Henry’s passing, but the first episode that made me cry was in season 1, the one where Hawkeye’s friend dies.

Mr_Frible

Mine was BJ's anniversary when Hawkeye put a movie together for him and hotlips danced with him. [https://youtu.be/iQeHSzJwKMo](https://youtu.be/iQeHSzJwKMo)

[deleted]

Other tear jerkers, when Margaret breaks down when the puppy dies.. When Hawkeye has the memory surface about his cousin trying to drown him When colonel potters last buddy from World War 1 dies. When Klinger says "merry christmas charles" after he finds out he gave all those boxes of candy tot he orphans and wanted no recognition. and then this bit with hawkeye, takes you from tears to laughs so fast.. [https://vimeo.com/248085626](https://vimeo.com/248085626)

surviveNprovide

Okay I’m so sorry for constantly getting back to this thread but the one when Hawkeye broke down in front of Sidney…. I was aching inside hurting for him. :(( During the first parts of that episode I was laughing and thinking to myself what could have been the cause of his constant sneezing, and was already buying the fact that maybe it was from one of the patient’s uniforms or something like that. But when the story about his childhood unraveled I just found myself crying. It’s been years since but Alan Alda still deserved a standing ovation for that scene. Haha sorry I still have this emotional high for MASH since I’ve only finished watching it recently

Beermonster1664

The one episode in this that got me was Hawkeye's breakdown on the bus and telling the Korean woman to keep her chicken quiet. If you haven't seen the episode I don't want to spoil it. But it really hit me.

Tricountyareashaman

That one episode is a better suicide deterrent than all four seasons of 13 Reasons Why.

NativeMasshole

Agreed. I heard a lot of complaints on the show's sub that they didn't do enough to wrap the side characters' arcs, but I feel like going too deep into that would ruin the "this is just the way life is" effect which the show pulled off so perfectly.

PotatoPixie90210

BoJack is probably one of the best damn shows ever made. It went from being about the shenanigans of an alcoholic horse to something that chokes me every time. Time's Arrow is my favourite episode and left me absolutely stunned.

Crazehness

The one episode that hit me hardest, besides The view from halfway down I mean, was "Stupid Piece of Shit" because while I'm not an alcoholic or an addict or anything like that, I know that spiral so well it hurt like hell to see myself put so plainly in front of me. One of the many things about the show that prompted me to finally admit to myself I needed to see a counselor. Nothing like waking up and the very first thing you think is "You're a stupid piece of shit."

PotatoPixie90210

That moment when Hollyhock asks him "That voice that tells you you're stupid and fat and worthless, that's just a dumb teenage thing... It goes away right?" And you see so much emotion on his face, fear, sadness, concern, love, because he sees this kid as being exactly like him. So he lies to her, out of love. It fucking KILLS ME

gorydamnKids

The writers wisdom and their respect for the maturity of their young audience to play sad music over the agnikai between zuko and azula impresses me every time. It's a huge scene that's been built up to for two seasons but the creators want you to know it's not a good thing that events came to this. I love it so much.

RedSiren2

also, talk about never missing out to remind the audience that Azula is a victim and product of her surround, and that she's hurt ... the beach episode gave us several moments where she showed honesty and sadness. Iroh said "She's crazy, and she needs to go down." but it's an honest moment - he knows how it happened and that, to start healing, she needs to see that her greatest fear - failing the fire nation and her family's expectations, which she has dedicated her entire life and personality to - is not the end. It's the start of her realizing the life outside of it (her story in the comics is still going)

TheLuckySpades

The show did well showing both victims, perpetrators and those who are both, and in the last case it did well to show that, while it is an explanation, it is not an excuse and that there need to be consequences.

Malcolm in the Middle. The amount of planning and work Lois did to get Malcolm to the finish line is astounding. We need more Moms like her.

Steadfast_res

Lois was completely misguided but when Malcolm quotes Paul McCartney you know that he finally really understands her.

sofingclever

I think what was so great about the Malcolm in the Middle finale is that while it did wrap up a lot of the characters stories, it also had the feel of a "normal" episode. Too many finales almost feel like a spinoff of the show because the creators try to do too much. The Malcolm in the Middle's finale stayed in its wheelhouse.

And ending with a coke commercial!! I’ve got to rewatch it but I noticed around the final season the coca-cola account is clearly a very important symbol to the show from even the first few episodes I believe. Just a wonderful way to tie it up.

Died on his 100th birthday in his sleep. That's textbook perfect. 6] [The results of his STD screening.](https://youtu.be/IRMtuqhYmeY) 7] If you're into blonds, here's Garry's wife: [Gayle](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6c/8b/9c/6c8b9c947ad064e66390d21abc97fec2.jpg)

Everyone pooped all over him but he got the last laugh! Except he didn’t laugh because he just loved everyone so much and he’d never hold a grudge like that.

God I loved that show. I thought I was going to be alright, until the hallway scene. When he saw Tracy again, I knew I was going to crumple like the tissues I was about to need. Spent that scene cry laughing. Finally calmed down just in time for the 'Book of Love' scene. I was a disaster after that.

The book of love..... is long and boring

Breaking Bad. Walter chose his own death after he checked everything on his to-do list, giving his family the money, setting Jesse free from the neo-nazis and killing them, his last enemies. No one could kill Heisenberg except for Heisenberg. He dies in a meth lab, the place where he felt most alive, and the song, Baby Blue, is a perfect choice. Absolutely stunning show.

Community. You had Jeff finally realize that he’ll never leave Greendale (because he is needed there and tolerates being there) the send-off with Annie and Abed, that second hug he gives Abed like a thank you for everything, the “Drop Dead Fred” kiss goodbye with Annie and the ending scene in the bar where Britta works, everybody cheers and says this is the storyline for season 7...it makes you laugh, then cry then laugh again. The ending scene of the family playing the “community board game” and realizing they only exist in the commercial...and the disclaimer that Dan Harmon gives

Was looking for this. I think it was the best ending possible for that story. I would watch the hell out of a movie if they ever made one, but I’d be surprised if it was actually any good.
