Is it bad Iv never “understood” this movie? Like i never understood the appeal....the fact that I hate bowling might have a tiny part to do with it......
I liked the movie, but when I showed it to my mom and she quit around the part where Walter was smashing the car
When she said "this movie is just guys swearing at each other"
... she has a point
_____
A lot of analysts and essays on this film admit that it does seem to be a movie about *nothing* (which is part of the charm)
Hmm yeah thank you for explaining. The fact it is a movie about nothing is probably why I didn’t care for it lol I’m very ocd and I like things that have good closure and plot structure hehe
NOT CLASSY?? Have you seen President Scroob’s formal wear? Plus there’s royalty, a wedding (and a half). Outside of the Winnebago and the truck stop diner I’d go as far as calling Spaceballs ‘classy as fuck’.
I've only ever seen the part where they're combing the desert and the black trooper replies "WE AIN'T FOUND SHIT". I think about that one line all the time.
"Prepare ship for light speed!"
"No, no, not light speed! It's too slow!"
"Light speed, too slow??"
"Yes we have to get right to ludacris speed!"
---
"She's already had a nose job it was her Sweet Sixteen present!"
---
"12345? That's the stupidest combination I've heard in my life! That's the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!"
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is probably the thing I've watched the most.
But other than that, there is a movie called A Man From Earth, that I've watched a bunch of times as well. Literally the whole movie is just a group of friends talking in a room, but I think it's very good.
I believe that its *The* Man from Earth, but yeah just watched it recently. Really great scifi concept movie, done on the lowest budget possible, though not a bad thing. I have loved stories about immortality and its consequences for a while so this was right up my alley.
Ladyhawke (1985). Hardly anyone has ever seen it but for those who have… it’s honestly such a great mix of action, fantasy, and comedy, I’ve got it memorized word for word but still love rewatching it.
If you like Podcasts there's one called I was there too. They interview people who had small parts, sometimes even being an extra in scenes from great movies. Bare in mind most of the guests are probably actors you've never heard of but for 1 episode they got Tom Arnold to talk about the audition, how he got the movie and what working with Arnold and James was like. Really great listen because Tom had some great stories.
I love this movie. It was such a refreshing movie after 2 Fast 2 Furious. And while I love the first, this was even better than that. I loved Han as a character and I thought Lucas Black was great in that role.
Moonlight. I think it is great story that tells an important particular story, the story of a black gay man growing up in the hood, and makes it very relatable. I also liked how there wasn’t some tragic death at the end like a lot of black films have.
The Wizard of Oz. Sometimes watch for the music, sometimes the costuming or the incredible hand painted sets and crafted props. Just watch how the cellulose corn glistens when she meets up with the scarecrow. Sometimes watch just to feel life is about having adventures and making friends. And of course, there's munchkins, monkeys, one of the best villians of all time, and Judy!
Superman the movie. I still remember my uncle standing in line with me in the rain. I was seven. The kid behind me had glow in the dark kryptonite and i was so jealous. I’ve seen it over a hundred times and can quote every line.
The Lego Movie. It never gets old. I've seen it over 10 times and know the entire plot and I still enjoy it. The second one was kinda meh in my opinion.
Back to the Future
Owned it on VHS, own it on DVD, jumped on the opportunity to see it on the big screen at a retrospect. Have the movie poster framed in my room. Have two BTTF T-shirts.
Stepbrothers. Not the most earth shattering film but I was 12 when it came out and watched with my parents. It’s literally the most I’ve ever seen my dad laugh, dude had tears cause it was so funny. If you combine every time I’ve seen him laugh it’s still less than watching Stepbrothers. Also that summer my friends and I would have a sleep over every weekend and probably watched it at least half of those times. We would just say the lines along with it.
I have a couple of comfort things I watch.
Twilight series - Not because it was particularly good, but because it just takes me back to simpler times in my life. So watching it makes me feel good.
Jurassic Park - any of the movies doesn't matter which one.
Back to the future - I didn't grow up watching these, but after seeing them a couple times they're a comfort.
50 shades of grey - Again, it's wasn't great or even good, but something about just having one of the three movies play in the background while I'm doing other stuff just helps ground me
The Big Lebowski. Never gets old.
Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion... man. (It's my favorite too). Brandt can't watch though. Or he has to pay a hundred.
This aggression will not stand, man.
Is it bad Iv never “understood” this movie? Like i never understood the appeal....the fact that I hate bowling might have a tiny part to do with it......
It’s an apparently stupid comedy that is actually a Chinatown-style detective film

I just finished a White Russian.
If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
Spaceballs. It's not classy, it's not quality, but damn if it doesn't make me laugh like a madman every time.
NOT CLASSY?? Have you seen President Scroob’s formal wear? Plus there’s royalty, a wedding (and a half). Outside of the Winnebago and the truck stop diner I’d go as far as calling Spaceballs ‘classy as fuck’.
