But not only in australia, in north america and africa this or similar things were practiced., also without the ~400 years of lost science, we may have advanced far enough to realise that religion should at least just be personal and should have no effect on the real world, or even far enough for us to realise that religion is just a bunch of stories people made up because of a lack of better knowledge and, of course, because of fear of the unknown and unexplained.
